Sorry to hear about your accident, BigPoppa, hope you get the car situation taken care of soon!

I made it to yoga class again today, but Rori, my Budokon instructor wasn't there so we had a sub who did more of a flow yoga. I'm still taking it easy when my hip complains!

I'm up to 26 days of meditation and 23 days of yoga for the month.

Great BIGPOPPAPUFF at least you can do Yoga and Pilates at home. Stay well! I imagine the insurance is going to cover your car, so you can move around. Cars now-a-days are really needed.Tel me about it, I live in an area with no public transportation whatsoever, so Uber is a blessing...taxis didn't want to come here because they have to come empty from Houston or return empty from Pearland. Hope you have Uber in your area...

Yes, I love my singing bowl! It is very relaxing at the end of my practice. Something new to try.
Working for the yoga 3 times a week this time. Still going slowly, honoring my body.

Stress Less, Weigh Less

Yoga helps reduce stress, which may aid weight loss, too. In response to stress, levels of the hormone cortisol rise; for people who continue to worry, those levels can stay high. Elevated cortisol levels not only stimulate eating, they ensure that any additional calories are efficiently converted to fat. Worse, under the influence of cortisol, that fat tends to get deposited in the abdomen, a particularly unhealthy place. Big bellies are linked to insulin resistance-a precursor to Type 2 (adult-onset) diabetes-and heart disease. By combating stress, yoga helps normalize cortisol levels.

The regular practice of yoga also boosts your ability to feel what's going on inside your body. This awareness helps you detect not only whether, say, your hamstring is tight but also whether your stomach is already full. Many people with weight problems have little awareness of their hunger and continue indulging long after they're sated. Besides having greater bodily awareness, people who practice yoga learn to examine their emotions-whether it's fear keeping them from doing a handstand or loneliness prompting late-night trips to the fridge. Yoga teaches that you are not your emotions and that you don't always need to act on them.

Ooooohhh, Susie, a singing bowl. How cool. I've only meditated to one at a special yoga workshop at the studio last year. I loved it too.

Today I was worked really hard at PT. They are getting ready to start strength training on Monday with a focus on all the yoga positions and heavy yard work and house chores that require shoulder strength. I'm so appreciative of their consideration of my lifestyle needs.
Tonight I will do my PT exercises adding my yoga legs and twists etc. Feeling great!

Did one hour of yoga last night. and to change it up I bought a singing bowl which I used at the end for final relaxation. Love it! Happy Friday.

I love the info and energy from this site! Everyone brings something new and interesting. And happy to see those of us healing making progress - but being kind to ourselves as we do. Feels good to be back to yoga and I will be doing 1 hr class tonight in the studio.

KELLIEBEAN Sun Salutations are good for the arms and legs, that downward dog and the chaturanga vinyasa are good poses and make work the triceps, biceps, legs...great! Your morning Sun Salutations are inspiring me to do the same! Thanks!

Hello!

I worked from home yesterday. I was able to do a morning yoga video after my habit of sun salutations before I got started working. I felt very energized!

I'm feeling additional strength in my triceps with this daily sun salutations.

Hi YogaLovers,
I've been continuing my yoga/PT exercises/poses 2X a day. Last night I went to another yoga class at the studio. Yay! It was so great. I'm still not doing weight bearing poses but soon I will. My PT therapist says next week he will start me on serious weight training so that I can add yoga poses back into my practice.

I've not been walking more than a mile this week because I have a knee that is bothering me, so I'm being kind to my legs.

I meditate and pray every morning before getting out of bed.

Hello all,
I have worked up to doing yoga 3 times this week. And I'll be doing a hr class tomorrow night.
I bought an extra mat and moved it to a corner of the living room permanently. Often now I find myself stopping to do even 10 minutes of yoga since it's so accessible.
Did an older Rodney Yee meditation CD last night. Soooooo calming.

I think one thing I love about yoga is the non-competitive nature of the practice, and that it encourages one to go at ones own pace. There are poses to strive for, and lots of steps along the way to get there. And, yes, listening to our bodies, knowing how far to push, and not pushing too far is all part of it.

So for the month at this point I'm at 19 days of meditation and 18 days of yoga, and actually made it to Budokon yesterday! Fun practice, we did animals, and yes, I did modify as needed!

AMYLFA my intention is to get information to the team, some will be able to do the poses as shown, some will need to use props, some will need to use modifications, our bodies are different and our poses should be those our bodies feel comfortable with. Great that you are little by little working to make your hips more flexible. Mine are a bit flexible and I used props to help me do the right way, no pressure there, I listen to my body. Listening to our bodies is essential. emoticon

PUNCHILOUIE, coincidentally, I had just read that SP article about poses for healthy hips, and then saw your post with the link to the same article:

I must say that you have to have healthy hips, already, to do the poses as shown in this article! Just a note to anyone else in the group who is dealing with severe hip issues... there are gentler modified versions of each of the poses in this article, and working slowly toward them WILL help to make your hips more flexible. Don't be discouraged!

As I posted recently, I am working on the Reclining Pigeon (what is called "Eye of Needle" in this article). I'm not doing what it looks like in the photo, yet, but each day that I work on it brings me a little bit closer. I can tell that my hips are making progress, a tiny bit at a time.

Hello everyone,
Seems there are a few of us here healing after surgery. Healing thoughts to everyone. It is hard to slow down in my practice and start again, but sometimes it is best to go back to square one! I am progressing to more twists and bends, not fully to backbends yet---pulls on the abs too much. But, focusing on the breath, restorative poses, and doing some yoga every other day. I found I really missed doing it those weeks!!
