The anticipation of starting a family is such a wonderful reason to get yourself in great health. I hope it all come together beautifully for you, Christina.

Christina, we are practically neighbors as I only live only 1 mile from that intersection. It'd be great to have a walking buddy in the evenings. By myself, my walks are much shorter in the dark hours. I wonder if it might be time for our little group to start a walk. Hmm, think I'll start a new post about this.

HI!

1) I'm not following anything specific. I eat portion controlled versions of the foods I've always eaten, though sometimes I'll make modifications to add extra veggies/nutrition - Add some spinach to the meatloaf (or zucchini), Zucchini to hamburgers, use eggplant instead of lasagna noodles in lasagna, etc. My goal is to on average be within my spark range.

2) I walk, jog, occasionally bike when the weather is nice and do some strength training - mainly light weights and body weight exercises.

3) I follow my own (see answer to #1).

4) Workout at home/outside.

5) I have a couple of Yoga/pilates tapes (no dvd's yet).

6) I walk with the Chandler team, though I wouldn't mind something closer to home.

7) I'm near Val Vista and Southern.

8) My biggest motivation is that hubby and I are preparing to start our family and I want to be at a healthy weight before we actually start. We're very close on some other goals and I've really got to stay on track if I'm going to be able to get to goal weight before those goals are met (more so now since we discovered that we'll meet the other goals 3 months early!). Next most is my dad's health - at 55 he's been on blood pressure medication since he was in his late 30s/early 40s and he's been diagnosed with diabetes in the last year.

9) After looking at this a lot (like GraceinAZ), I am thinking around 130-135. We'll see how I look/feel when I get there before making a final decision on maintaining.

10) I'm exercising regularly (6 days a week cardio, 3 of those have strength work as well), and eating on average in my spark range. It's averaged me about 4 lbs a month since I started spark so I'm going to stick to it...

Christina

I'm trying but it is such a struggle; however, I will never give up. emoticon

Although I'm not working right now, I am looking for a part-time job. Evenings could work for me, especially as the days lengthen and we have a bit more sunlight. I'd be willing to try for a Wednesday morning, too. I live on the other side of Mesa near Baseline but maybe we could find something inbetween.

Hey there Grace!
Thanks for your answers. Sounds like you know what you are doing as far as the diet and exercise go. It helps to know what foods to stay away from when your body aches. Fibromyalgia is a crazy condition. Many possible triggers I have heard. I think you are absolutely right about doing the Pilates to keep you limber and toned. My cousin has that condition and she is supposed to do tai chi or something similar. Yoga is another good one to keep the joints fluid.
I would love to walk with you but I do work full time Monday through Saturday. Well half day on Saturday. I am off in the mornings on Wednesday and I live on Gilbert and Brown. I am willing to walk after work anyday but Wednesday since I dont get off until 8pm but the morning is great. It is so hard to set something up when everyone is so spread out huh? Well let me know if any we can work it out.

this is the start of something great

Hi Olga! Thanks for starting this thread. :)

I am not on any specific diet although I am trying to cut my carbs but not as low as an Atkins diet would recommend, generally I keep it below 150. I would like to follow the Spark diet sometime but fear it will be too repetitious -- so much rice and peanut butter, methinks. However, sometimes I've followed it loosely. Usually I have to substitute fruit as I try to choose what's in season -- as much as possible anyway. ;)

Pilates is my favorite exercise to do. Apparently it doesn't burn a whole lot of calories but it has done wonders for toning, and keeps my muscles in shape. I have fibromyalgia and this also helps tremendously to keep me me from getting too stiff. In addition, I do some low intensity cardio a couple of times a week. Walking is a big part of my routine, I also try to get a hike in at least once a week. It gets lonely though so I am interested in a walking team, and live near the Mesa/Gilbert border.

My ideal weight is 129. I chose this after going to a great many sites to figure out my body type, BMI, etc. However, I would be quite content and feel pretty healthy if I could get down to 140.

Hey Louise :) I, too, was surprised and sorry to hear about the cancer news. I would be interested in hearing more about your particular kind of cancer and the treatment if you'd like to share or discuss. emoticon

Like you, I am also looking forward to weather warm enough for swimming. Hmm, in Arizona perhaps I should say JUST warm enough for swimming. emoticon

Hi! I am on a nutritional plan that my Naturopatic
Doctor has put me on. I dance fast in my livingroom to a lot of my CD's and I also teach a preschool class so we dance a lot there too. I have a lot of DVD's but the ones I use the most is a lot of Leslie
Sansone's Walking Off The Pounds DVD's or Richard Simmons DVD's. Actually, the Chandler Team which I am the co-leader of has a Walking Club. We walk at 8:30a.m. on Saturday mornings at Desert Breeze Park in Chandler. Everyone is welcome to join us. I have a lot of pounds to lose until I get down to my ideal weight which will be 150 lbs. I still have well over 100 pounds to lose but I am losing. Besides dancing and walking my favorite exercise is swimming or pool walking--anything in the water. I am waiting for the weather to get warmer so I can use the pool. The steps I am taking to meet my goal is following the nutrition plan my Naturopathic doctor has me on and exercising or trying to exercise daily and come to SPARKPEOPLE. Now things are going to change a little. I just found out I have a rare form of cancer. So now I will be going to Cancer Treatment Centers Of America. They have one in Goodyear, Arizona. They put you on a nutrion program. I am sure it is not too much different than the one I am on now since they have Naturopathic Doctors plus MD's. Oh, no I do not belong to a gym. I work out at home or at a park or when the weather is nice in a swimming pool. Well, I think I answered most of your questions. HAVE A GREAT DAY!
GOD BLESS!
Louise
