Yes, the walk is every Saturday morning at 8:30 at Desert Breeze Park in Chandler. As it gets warmer we'll be going earlier, so I will try to make sure that I update on times as time goes on - that way anyone who couldn't go because of the time can join in if they want.

I wish I could do weekday mornings! Unfortunately I have to work those days...

Good morning, Olga! That walk is organized by the Chandler group and I think takes place every Saturday. I am usually available weekday mornings if you and/or anyone else would like to set something up. Just let me know. emoticon

Hi ladies. I was wondering if you guys walk everyday or is it just on Saturdays or what. I mean as a group or a team. I usually work every Saturday but I do have the 14th off so if you are going for a Valentines Day walk I would love to make it! Just need to know where and what time.
thanks emoticon

this is the start of something great

I'm doing well. I think the switch up in exercise plans has helped the weight loss, so I'm going to keep pushing myself there. I need to focus back on my eating as I've been slipping a lot this month.

I'm sorry you couldn't make it! We will be walking next week even though the AZ Rally is going to be next week. A few of us already had plans and can't attend the rally, but can meet at 8:30 for the walk. Louise said she can't make the walk next week due to a meeting she has to attend, but I plan on being there as do a couple other ladies also not able to attend the rally. Feel free to join us if you're free!

Well, this week I've remembered the walk but daughter has a soccer game tomorrow.

It's been a busy week, I've been in training for volunteer hospice work and starting to doubt whether I am ready for this.

Only did fair with exercise as I missed two days so I'll have to be active this weekend.

How's everyone else?

Gina, you definitely should come to one of the walks. It's really great and the time just flies!

Louise - It was really neat to meet up with someone I hadn't seen in so long. We actually hadn't seen each other in about 12 years (basically since high school!). It's really interesting how many people I run into from high school that now live near me. I graduated from a west valley high school, and my graduating class was around 500 students. I've now run into 2 people from my school that live fairly close to where I do now - and that is just in the last 2 years. Considering how big the valley is and how many people go away after high school to other places I think that's pretty amazing.

emoticon I totally forgot! Now I have to wait another whole week. I do walk a lot but it would be really nice to meet up with some others occasionally. Must remember to touch base with you all before next Saturday.

On second thought, maybe it wouldn't have worked out anyway. I only slept 4 hours last night and didn't take my regular SAT morning walk. Tonight should be much better!

I'd love to hear more about your naturopathic doctor sometimes, as I'm very interested in herbs and other alternatives.

Good to know we have another reader! We had a thread going in the Games forum to get a little discussion going on books. Hope everyone will share what they're reading. :)

Christina, I am glad you came and walked again today.
I think it was neat that you and Ravingjewel knew each other from high school and got reaquainted again. Gina, I hope you can make the walk sometime. I do not walk as fast as the rest of the group. Infact, I am slow but walking is better than not walking at all. After the walk this morning I took a nap. I get up at 4a.m. and if I don't keep myself busy, I get tired. Then after the nap I went to Barnes&Noble to get a few books. I love reading. One my Naturopathic Doctor recommend that I get it. One I got to earn credits for my work and the others I got for enjoyement. Tomorrow I have to go grocery shopping. I also worked on my lessons plans for my preschool class when I got home from the walk. That could have been another reason why I got tired. Sometimes doing a lot of lesson plans is boring but they have to be done. Have a Great rest of Saturday!
GOD BLESS!
Louise

Hi everyone! I've added two new threads: Photo Trivia and Wednesday Weigh-in. For Photo Trivia, I'll be taking a pic each month from somewhere around the East Valley and posting it as our Team Photo, and asking if our members can identify it. Just post your guesses in that thread. Wednesday Weigh-in is for anyone who would like to participate. I still weigh everyday but have decided to only post my scale readings on a weekly basis. Hoping this gives us some accountability.

Have a wonderful waist-whittling Wednesday! emoticon

It was cool to meet other sparkers from the east valley (even if they aren't all as far east as some of us). I hope that you can make a walk sometime so we can meet too!

I think momentum is key once you get the ball rolling it just goes on it's own. I think I've finally gotten mine rolling again. Was up and jogging this morning. I never thought I'd say I jogged, but I did - Other than warm up and cool down on a route that totals 2.5 miles. I had to push myself a bit once I got to my normal slow down point, but once I got past that I was fine. Food has been no problem at all for the last 3 days or so.

Keep moving everyone!

Oh how cool that you all were able to meet! Will definitely check the calendar and see if I can join in one of these walks. I always enjoy checking out new parks, too. Of course, I used to do this for the benefit of my kids when they were little.

Everyone sounds revved up to go today! I got quite a bit of exercise in. Unfortunately, I gained 5 lbs over the weekend. Guess that must be water weight but I'm trying to stay active as long as I can. Borrowed some more DVDs from the library today: Yoga Booty Ballet and a dance video. I was thinking earlier today that we should start a video thread (discussion) just to give a review for each other.

Like SWIMLOVER, I also love swimming. I am no great swimmer but I adore being in the water.

Going on along on a business ride to Flagstaff tomorrow -- hope I have some opportunities for walks but may try to do some Pilates before I leave. All that sitting in the car will be hard but I always benefit from a change of scenery.

Take care, everyone, and hope you have a great Tuesday!

Louise - It was great to meet you as well. I'll definitely be coming again. So I'll see you Saturday, and I'll be there at 8:30.

I'm doing much better at being back where I should be. I'm on target for my minutes goal (and probably will beat it) for January. I've finally gotten my eating under control enough that I'm back to an average for January that is at the top end of my range. I'm rearranging my workouts. I have been putting a major focus on strength work since December. I decided this past week that I need to now move to a more balanced cardio and strength routine. So I'm starting with that today.

I got in 20 minutes of a cardio video. I've actually been doing some of the online free videos from exercisetv.tv as I'm watching my finances right now since I've had to buy new clothes more than I'd like right now from a financial standpoint. Some of the videos are pretty tough! I actually had to stop the one I was doing this morning at 2/3 of the way through - I was just getting exhausted. I think I'm going to have to work through that one in stages...

Christina, I am glad you were able to join us yesterday. Grace, you are welcome to come and join us on Saturdays. We are actually going to meet at 8:30a.m. but we will be walking around the park a number of times so if someone cannot make it until 9a.m. we will meet them at the statue of the children. I actually went back to Desert Breeze Park this morning and walked for an hour. I am not a fast walker. I used to be but I have to get back into it. I am sure in just a little while I will be walking faster. I want to try walking around a park daily. I do dance fast in my livingroom to a lot of my CD's but I want to get back into walking also. I cannot wait for the warmer weather so I can start swimming again. So I hope that the people on this team will join us on Saturday mornings at 8:30a.m. at
Desert Breeze Park in Chandler. Please spread the word--everyone is welcome! Christina, it was very nice meeting you. Well, I still have things to do before I go to bed. Everyone, please have a great night!
GOD BLESS!
Louise

Desert Breeze has a walking path around a lake in the middle of the park. We did about 5 rounds or so. Hubby and I lived within walking distance of this park before we moved to East Mesa so I was familiar with it, which is why when someone said they were doing it I decided to go.

I agree, it's very nice to get to meet some people especially when the goals are similar. Does the park having walking trails?

I had a good long walk (80 min) at the Riparian Preserve mid-morning (after dashing in the library to get a DVD but it was still out). Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in a hike at Silly Mountain tomorrow.

I'm doing better. I actually have been in calorie range for 3 days in a row. I've gotten in at least 10 minutes of cardio for 3 days in a row. I think I'm headed for back on track!

I actually got in a fairly slow paced walk this morning, but I went with a group from the Spark Arizona team at Desert Breeze Park in Chandler. It was nice to get to meet some new people and get in some exercise at the same time. They're meeting there Saturday mornings at 9 (at least until it gets warmer!).

off to grocery shop and hit the library.

I'm still not making much progress. My only hope is walking more and perhaps I should try some of those 10 min cardios to help rev things up. Last night I think I ate the equivalent of 4 brownies (dd made them and we sat in front of the TV for hours watching reruns) -- should count myself lucky to not have a headache this mor ning.

Of course, I am starting good with some clementines & raisins followed by an omelette after I get back from my walk. LOL, I am an excellent starter, it's just the finishing that's so hard... emoticon

It's been a rough couple weeks. I did so well over the holidays actually ending december with a net loss. I've not lost a single pound since. And I've been struggling to get in the fitness minutes and stay in range - I've been around maintenence levels for the past week.

I think I've finally overcome it though. Yesterday was an in range (and lower half) calorie day and today I was awake at a more normal time for me and got up and did 30 min of strength work (upper body) and a 10 minute cardio video. I'd been skipping the cardio most weekdays because of the cold, but I really need to get back to it.

I've not read much that is heavier in a while. I need to really think that over when I go to the library this week. If I don't start reading substantive books soon my brain might turn to mush!

I usually have a few books going at once or intersperse something light & fun in between heavier reads, lol, something for every mood, I guess. ;)

Had a long hike yesterday, the air was cool but the sun burned my face a bit. In any event, I felt great afterward. :D Moving a little slow today after another short night's sleep but ready to do my Pilates and Dancercise.

I've made a change in the CHALLENGES Forum. It is now the FOOD & EXERCISE Forum. Please feel free to start new posts there.

I've been lazy for a few days. But back in the swing today. Up and did my strength work.

Gina - It wasn't anything substantive - Lazy days equal romance novels for me... I need to pick up a few substantive things to read though for the not so lazy days... hmmm... I'll have to think on that one a bit...

Hi Louise! Sounds like a good plan. I should probably consider journaling on and offline more seriously.

Christina, how nice you were able to use the unexpected day off to your advantage. I'd love to hear about what you're reading if you care to share. :)

I was still somewhat sore yesterday so only did my shorter Pilates of 20 min., and much later in the day a 45 min walk just before sunset. I think that puts me back in sync with my previous exercise plan, however, I am disappointed that the new Pilates workouts caused so much pain. Maybe I'll give them a try in another month or so to be sure that was the cause. Yikes! Is it really after 10? Better get moving!

Have a great day! emoticon

That sounds like a great plan Louise!

I'm up early this morning, but I see that I'm not the only early riser. I've gotten in some core strength work this morning already and hubby has promised to go for a walk with me later today - I'm going to make that an hour and a half (walk/run actually!). I lucked out and ended up off today unexpectedly, so I'm taking advantage and getting in some extra minutes - plus getting some relaxing me time. I'm about to go get breakfast and grab my book for an hour or so before I get started on some cleaning that needs to be done before hubby gets home from fishing with his dad. Hopefully that won't take too long and I can curl up with my book again.

Yes, Let all of us have joy and get healthy in 2009!
My goals for 2009 are to exercise two hours daily,
eat six mini meals and write down every thing I eat and what I do for exercise and how I feel daily in my
journal (not the one of SPARK but maybe I should write in that one also). HAVE A GREAT 2009!
GOD BLESS!

You're right Gina - new year = new things and lots of hope, joy excitement etc...

I started out today right - 60 minutes of strength work and a 60 minute walk/run. My 3.3 mile route in that time and I've not done that route in at least 3 weeks and I'm still congested from this darn cold that got me in the middle of Dec....

How did everyone else do?

Does anyone else have goals for the year?

I'm looking to get to my goal weight by the middle of June. Very doable with the rate of loss I've had so far. Then I want to maintain the loss - unless hubby and I start to work on adding to our family and then to gain back a healthy amount for a pregnancy and NO MORE!

Joy in January. LOL, I thought it sounded corny at first but don't most of us start January with joy. It accompanies our hopes for the new year. While we can start the journey towards a new goal at any time, there is something exciting about the new month, the new year. So let's kick it off right, and embrace this moment and welcome the joy in the journey as well.

Happy New Year! May 2009 be filled with peace and joy for each of you!
