Good mornin' all! emoticon

Yep, that's right, Christina. What else can we do but just pick back up where we left off. I find that at least helps me to bounce back quicker even if I am still at a plateau. Anyway, I am feeling much less sore today and eager to do my Pilates stretches followed by some aerobics.

Hi Louise! Glad you dropped in -- how's it going for you this week?

I also would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year's Eve and Day! emoticon emoticon

I finally got back to my exercising this morning with a full hour of core & lower body strength work. And yes, I felt pretty weak doing it - I hadn't worked out in over a week myself. UGH.

Consistency is key, but when you're feeling horrible, there's not much you can do except start again and work back to where you were...

Way to go, Christina, in still being at a net loss. emoticon

I was surprised what a couple weeks of hardly any exercise could do. My muscle felt weak & the walk was sluggish -- took an hour to do what's usually 48-50 min. I think it'll just take a couple days to turn that around. It's going to be a little harder dropping the treats I've been indulging in but I'm armed with apples & cottage cheese to replace them. I, too, gain water weight with salt: 3 lbs this past week. So that should come off fairly easy but it's making progress below 154 that will prove hard for me.

I am truly back on track now, and as determined as ever to get much closer to my goal in this coming year.

hi everyone - new members too! I hope to see some posts from you all, the support from the spark community is really a big part of the success here and posting is a great way to get that support.

Gina - I think you are still ahead of me at this point, I'm trying to get back into my normal routine, but I'm still feeling a bit under the weather. I'm hoping to get back (after a week of not doing a thing) to it today. I'm thinking a short walk/run tonight and some weights while watching TV with DH.... Once I get started, it won't be hard, I just have to get started and I'm struggling with that part. Good news is that I'm still at a net loss for december. The scale this morning was 1 lb heavier than last week, but with the extra salt that I don't typically have and less water than normal that's more than likely all water. We'll see what Thursday brings.

Hope everyone's Christmas was merry, and may the rest of the holidays be happy!

The weather is warming this week but the next looks like it will be very chilly again.
emoticon

Had a nice walk in the cool, crisp air this morning -- felt good to be out in the sunshine again.
emoticon

How is everyone? Hope all are well, this time of year starts to see colds & flu. All are well here except a return of the headache this morning. Did I say before there definitely seems to be a pattern, these are monthly episodes, hmm, hormones...
emoticon

Well, off to check out a new Pilates program. I normally would have done this before a walk but had to drop dd off for soccer practice so I was already out.

Have a great day!

New members: do please drop in and say hello, let us know how you're doing.

I'm not either at this point Gina - I've managed to catch a horrible cold (at the very least) and stayed home from work today. I'm so congested it's making me miserable and I'm barely able to take a shower and prepare a simple meal without getting tired - forget working out and vegetables and fruits, yeah that's more work than I can put in right now!

We do what we can when we can. This is about changing our lives for the better, not just about losing weight. We're going to encounter those challenges no matter what so all we can do is work through them. Have a bad day, do better the next. Have a bad week, start fresh the next. Whatever it takes, however long it takes if we stick with it most of the time we'll have some success - and we'll maintain it.

It's a great point about sleep being important. Sometimes we can let ourselves get too caught up and we don't give it the attention it deserves.

Not doing so good at all this week, and it's tempting not to post about it. But in order to encourage all our members to share, I'll go ahead.

falling far short on fruits & veggies
not exercising even though I enjoy it very much

One positive thing: I got 8 hours of sleep last night, and it was only interrupted very briefly a couple of times. Now that's progress! I focus so much better when I'm getting good, regular sleep. Its value must not be underestimated: www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/guide/

I'm making it happen. emoticon

I've been getting in at least 30 min of strength training every day (except sundays). I had a bad weekend as well - office xmas party plus engagement party for a friend from college is a bad combination! I'm focusing on the average for the month though and I'm only about 20 calories/day higher than the top of my range when you look at it that way!

I've got a little bit of shopping left to do and then I'm ready for xmas... YAY!

I didn't do so good this weekend. emoticon
Ate chocolates & cookies & gingerbread, and I'm sure the wine at dh's Christmas dinner party was full of carbs, too.

Missed my SAT morning walk due to the satellite guy not coming until 1:00 when the appointment time was between 8 & 12. Too exhausted to take my SUN hike but took a short walk in the evening, brr, was it cold! Cold enough for a scarf and gloves.
emoticon

Positives: our Christmas tree is up and I reduced a lot of clutter from the family room. Well, sorta... most of it just got shifted somewhere else so I still have to reckon with those paper piles another day.
emoticon

Today I did 20 min of Pilates but didn't get to the cardio afterwards. Well, I can still redeem some of the day by fixing a balanced meal, finishing the PILES of laundry and maybe taking a short walk.

I've been focusing on those since I'd been ignoring them a lot more than not up to now.

emoticon for pants and fit looser!

12/11 - 60 minutes packing files for storage (additional to previous post)
12/12 - 30 min core/30 minutes walk/run

Still on target with the food plan. That's the easy part for me most of the time, but we'll see how that goes this weekend when I'm busy.

Oh, that is nice feedback to get. emoticon Good job on the core & strength exercises. I think doing these is very important.

Today, 12/11:

-45 min standing Pilates routine; this Fusion program is really growing on me. I don't own it though just borrowing from the library.
-30 min walk at dusk. It was neat to see the Christmas lights without freezing (lol, memories of past years caroling).
-may still try to squeeze in my weight circuits, it's been weeks.

Ate healthy but ate 4 oatmeal cookies instead of the 2 I had planned. I'm certain the waist & legs of my pants are slightly looser. I sure hope this continues, I'd love to be down one more size. emoticon

I'm glad you're feeling better Gina! I'm doing okay, but not getting in the cardio minutes I want to... I'm too tired by the end of the day lately and have been sleeping in too late to get it and the strength work in. Since I'm focusing on making sure I integrate the strength work in for December, I'm doing that first so I don't skip it.

12/5 - Didn't get in that cardio, just the strength work I listed in my last post
12/6 - 30 min strength (lower body)
12/7 - Rest Day
12/8 - 90 minutes (30 min upper body strength, 60 min walk/run)
12/9 - 30 min core strength
12/10 - 30 min lower body strength
12/11 - 30 min upper body strength

I've stayed in range all days on the food plan and pretty balanced. I'm down 2 lbs so far in December. and I've seen a few inches come off.

I was out with my girlfriends shopping last weekend and one of them mentioned that she could really see the weight loss now. Especially in my back (right around the bra line!) and my stomach. These are the girls that I go shopping for clothes with so we look at each other pretty critically about stuff like that (in a constructive way). It felt really good to hear that from someone I see fairly regularly. I'm getting excited for Christmas because I'll see some of my husband's family that haven't seen me since i was about 20 lbs heavier than I am now. It'll be fun to see them and see what they say!

Very pleased with balanced eating today. I got in 20 min Pilates and 35 min of Dancercise. Now if I can get to sleep on time, I'll greet tomorrow with lots of energy to start thinking about Christmas.

Wanted to add I think I seem to have lost a couple pounds, too. However, only one is showing on the scale because of my heavy winter pajamas. emoticon

The migraine is gone, thank goodness! Often it hurts more to lay down but sitting in a big chair like a recliner gives my neck & head more support. Other times, I feel restless but still unable to get anything done whether work or pleasure.

Haven't gotten any of the December activities done but I'm back on track with exercise now.

12/7 - 20 min Pilates and 35 min Dancercise
12/8 - 35 min Pilates (missed my strength training again)

I'm doing much better with food lately, more fruit & veggies and less desserts as well as zero eating out.

LOL. Gina not Grace. I think the same about clynn... I've used that one for quite a while myself. It stinks about the migraine. Hope it's better today than it was yesterday. I amazed that you got through anything - I'm incapable of doing ANYTHING (outside lying down on a couch or in bed) when I get them.

12/4 - right on target with the food plan, got in a 30 minute walk and 30 minutes of upper body strength.

12/5 - starting out good with 30 minutes core strength work. Plan on a walk with hubby this evening - gonna have to push him out the door in front of me, but we need to get back into routine - I get it in elsewhere but hubby's a slug if we don't go.

This is probably a good time to say my name is Gina but because of a username I've had online for so many years, many people called me Grace and I've become so used to it that I would probably answer to that outside this box as well. emoticon

12/3 Worked a little more on my window project. Did great with exercise: 20 min Pilates & 35 min Dancercise. Breakfast and lunch were balanced but I had to eat a Subway meal for a research project (how almonds may affect blood sugar levels) I've been doing the last couple weeks.

12/4 No exercise today, severe migraine, accomplished nothing but managed to get through all the blood withdraws for the study this morning which included a breakfast of almonds, bagel & juice. Too sick to eat much the rest of the day. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Grace - either Clynn or Christina is fine.

Great job making a good choice and heading off the sweets cravings.

12/2 I am about done for the day food wise - I have room for a granola bar if I get hungry before bed, though at this point it's doubtful I'll get hungry before bedtime. I did get in my 30 minute walk/run this evening - though it was more of a run/walk since I ran almost 20 minutes of the 30. I was actually able to do the run part straight - a 9 minute warm up, almost 20 minutes of running and then a couple minutes cool down. I never thought I would say such a thing, but there it is.

12/3 - on target with food, and did 30 minutes of lower body strength work.

Hi! emoticon I was going to say CLYNN but just noticed for the first time that your name is Christina. I've always loved that name, by the way, which name do you prefer to use here at Sparks?

Anyway, congrats on the 5 lb loss -- that is wonderful!

12/1 I forgot to come back yesterday but I did do 20 min of Pilates. Other than the extra slice of pie, I did well with food.

12/2 Today I had a 50 min walk. I just stopped myself from having an extra bowl of cereal (already had one for breakfast) when I remembered this accountability thread. Instead, I chose to have a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and a spoon of blackstrap molasses. I do these separate and although I don't love the molasses, eating these two things stops my cravings for a sweet treat.

Hey Grace!

12/1 - I ate in range (high end), and I got in 30 minutes of upper body strength exercises.

12/2 - Already got in 30 minutes core strength exercises, plan on 30 minute walk/run this evening.

I'll check back at the end of the day today. I'm focusing a bit on the strength training this month - I tend to let that slide because I enjoy cardio more, but I'm making December my month to make strength work a habit!

I finished November with a 5 lb loss. I want to see the same in December!

AA - Activities and Accountability

December is typically a busy month of Activity, a time when good intentions with regards to eating and exercising often fall to the wayside. Accountability may be our best strategy to get through this month still holding our heads high. This doesn't mean we aren't allowed to have a Christmas treat or should feel ashamed if we miss an aerobics session. Balance is still key.

emoticon

Today's activities will be clearing up the clutter that I have allowed to accumulate these past couple of months. Gotta make room for the tree! Will report later on Accountability for food & exercise.
