I am currently read the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. Dead Until Dark (aka). Very interesting-easy read, wacky, but very funny.

People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily.

Joined KCPL's summer reading program and their centennial reading program (read 100 books this year);

I just finished The Sand Castle by Rita Mae Brown, and it was very good...lots of thought for the plot....I hadn't read any of her books, but I will add her to my list.

Read Fire & Ice by Garwood...liked it too, but it's an extension of her writing style and predictable.

Haven't read any of my WV books/authors yet; must get back to those...

MISSAJEEP, I will get to the website and download your short story. What is the name of the novel you and your husband wrote and published?

My husband and I read romance all the time. But right now I'm reading Jen Lancaster "Such a Pretty Fat". The book is all about her reasons why she should and shouldn't lose weight. It is downright hilarious! My husband and I have written a romance novel ourselves and gotten it published at Hearts on Fire Books. We wrote a short story you can download free at our website. www.christophergolliday.webs.com. Let me know what you think? I'd love feedback!

Right now, with teaching ending, I'm getting sidetracked. I haven't finished Billheimer's book nor started Thompson's. But I did begin a faith-based novel called Faraday Road, and I like it. I've also started one I bought at a yard sale yesterday--Cadillac Summer. Will finish these four before I begin anything else.

I don't think you're a book snob, but I do think you prefer lots of non-fiction. That's fine! As long as we read what we enjoy!

Your experience is similar to what I feel about Stephen King and any of the horror novels (even if it's romance writer Nora Roberts' The Hollow series dressed up as romance instead of stupid plot horror.). A couple of years ago, at my daughter's badgering, I finally read a couple of Stephen King's stories, and, surprisingly, I liked them. (Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Hearts of Atlantis, and TheGirl Who Loved Tom Brady--I think that's the title.)

Would I make a steady diet of King? No.
Have I read more of his stuff? No.
Will I read some in the future. Maybe.

At times we need a different escape.

Okaaaay, I'm a book snob, I admit it. Whenever anyone would ask me what I liked to read, I would say that I like a variety, just about anything, but that I wouldn't be caught dead reading a romance novel.

Weeeelllll ........... I received 2 unsolicited free books from the Love Inspired series in the mail awhile back and I finally got around to reading them (after all they were FREE!). (Ahem)

liked them! (Whew that was hard to admit). LOL

Positive, clean, books. A very quick read, but a welcome respite from all of the negative stuff going on in the world these days. True escapism. I guess that we can all benefit from some happily-ever-after fairy tales now and again. (Shhhhh - don't tell anybody)

Who'd athunk it?

Oh, thank you! I've read WHo Moved My Cheese? a long time ago! I am going to reread it because it is inspirational!

I'm currently reading Dark Summer by Iris Johansen.

My current kiddie lit book is Early Sunday Morning by Bruce Dennenburg. It's part of the Dear America series and tells about the bombing of Pearl Harbor from a young girl's POV. (My students like the Dear America series, and I like to be able to "talk books" with them.)

Yes, I agree. We all like different things. I'd never think of one of the books I'd like to read for relaxation would be one I would use for authenticity.

But earlier I was searching for a Civil War novel to use for upper elementary students. I think I might have one---Discoveries in the Shriver Family Attic, How a Woman and Her Children Dealt with the Battle of Gettysburg by Kajsa C. Cook.

I know the story of the Schrivers and their family's history with the Battle of Gettysburg. As I've researched this story, it is accurate, yet told in a format that will interest upper elementary students. I think I will recommend it for next year. I am also looking at one of the Dear America series, My Brother's Keeper. It's suppose to be very good as well.

Maybe the powers that be...the ones that control the money...will allow me to buy both of them. That would be good for the kids to see different ideas and POVs about what was happening during the Civil War.

I had never read any of Patterson's books until lately. They kept popping up on this list and another on this site so I tried one, didn't like it and read 2 more just in case I selected a "bad" one.

I just can't get past his inaccuracies in police procedure and legal/courtroom procedures. It just goes to show how different people have different tastes. No doubt many people would cringe at reading some of the stuff that I adore and I just think that Patterson's books are - well - just BAD.

(I'm not criticizing anyone who likes them, just pointing out that it's a good thing that there are so many choices to opt from). LOL

Just finished Blue Smoke and Murder by Elizabeth Lowell; a good romance and mystery book, with the mystery being the storyline and the romance as part of the formula

Reading a professional book: Boys and Girls Learn Differently (how boys and girls learn, based upon brain research and multiple intelligences)

I like James Patterson's books, but I find some of them a bit frightening. I thought Mary, Mary was one of those, especially at the end.

I liked Midnight Bayou by Nora Roberts, and I even liked the movie.

Have a couple going right now:

Splintered Icon by???
Last Dance at the Jitterbug Lounge by Pam Morsei
(great book---will probably finish it tonight)
At Gettysburg, a diary written by Tilly Pierce, a young girl who witnessed the Battle of Gettysburg---powerful words from a teen!

Kid's book for my class: Ben and Me by Robert Lawson a cute fantasy

I just finished Midnight Bayou, and have recorded the movie, so I might watch that soon. I am going to have to look in my "library" to see which one I want to start next! I am also reading Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky. It is the history of salt and its impact on the world and mankind. This book was given to me by my daughter who is a teacher and it is very interesting.

I am reading Survivor in Death by Nora Roberts/ J.D. Robb. I will read about anything. I have found it is a great way to relieve stress and get your mind off work.

I don't read many civil war "novels". The Sharra's books and Gingrichs' series are fiction, but I don't know if they are really "novels" like you are looking for.

I read Atlas Shrugged as part of a college course decades ago. I should reread it. Thanks; it's on my TBR list now.

Just finished a book called Rebel Hart, about the Confederate spy Nancy Hart. It's for middle-school aged readers, and I'm trying to find a new Civil War novel for my students. It was okay; not exactly what I want to use in class, but I will have it available for independent reading.

Getting reading to start Chasing Lincoln's Killer, another middle-school novel; still searching for that new Civil War novel to use next year.

If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know.

I finished Atlas Shrugged. I wish that every thinking American would read this book.

I'm about half-way through Liberty & Tyranny by Mark Levin and am reading Blowback by Brad Thor

Ten Year Nap --- I'm not sure; I'm not very far into it yet; hopefully, more time to read today

Also reading The Reckoning---a weird, freaky little story!
