I've been diabetic for 46 yrs come Sept. There's so much I'd like to do, but not sure I have the capability! I currently weigh 190-200lbs(varies weekly, daily due to CHF-CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE), would love to get back down to around 130-135lbs, but have so much body pain that I don't exercise or anything because I hurt so bad!! Anyone have any ideas how to get around this???

Diabetes management is all about BALANCE. We've all got to pick out battles and decide which info feels right to us. A1C is just a number and plenty of people who are doing everything right may still have a higher number. I think it's important not to get too hung up on any one thing.

The goal is under 7.
Currently at 8.7 (or was it 8.9?). Not ideal for sure, but it could be a lot worse.
I figure my cholesterol is excellent, my eyes are clean, I put a couple hundred miles on my bike last month, and I'll do 2 half- and 1 whole marathons this summer, so everything else is working in good condition, and threats and warnings be damned, I am not interested at this time in spending more time on keeping my BG where it ought to be.
Not a great attitude I'm sure, but I'm human, and right now the desire to have fun is way bigger than the desire to put in lots of time and effort to correct my BG. By fun, I mean things like go on a spur-of-the-moment 20 mile bike ride and then eat a pound of cherries for dinner. Otherwise good decisions, just not easy on my BG.

Currently 5.6%. My goal is under 6.

I've been type 1 for 20 years, wear a pump and test 10-12 times a day.

Low carb, exercise by hiking 2.5 miles 3x a week.

That's fantastic. I've had it for almost 24 years now and am just now trying to get super tight control over my bgs. I had it when I was pregnant, but after my daughter was born it didn't seem as pressing to do so.

That's great! I test about 10x per day but the insurance company will not cover any additional strips beyond 900 per month, which is extremely frustrating. How long have you had diabetes?

My A1C for the last 15 years averages 5.1-5.4. I work really hard to keep my bs 75-90 daily and 120 to exercise. I eat around 1200-1500 calories per day and exercise 1 hour daily. I eat almost the same calories/carbs per meal, no low carb, no sugar free and nothing lowfat at all. I just try not to eat anything processed most of the time. I wear a pump and I check my bs 12-13x daily! I have been doing this for so long that it has become a habit!

I just thought it would be interesting to start a thread on our A1Cs and see what people do to maintain good A1Cs. What's your goal A1C? What are your eating/exercising habits like? My A1C is currently 6.7. I would love to get it under 6 and have beeing on a low carb/primal diet for a couple of months now. I'm ironing out my basal rates and adjustments for exericse, stressful times, etc. so that I will hopefully see a much better number on my next endo visit!
