If it's not TOO low I'm using sweetened vanilla flavor Almond milk. It's has lots of calcium as a bonus and 1 cup = 15 grams of carb and it's deelicious but it odes have some fat grams too.. If I'm lower than 60 or so I have to be more aggressive with about 6 to 8 glucose tabs or a tablespoon of jam or something. I'm pretty lucky in being able to function well when I'm low.

Lol this is definitely me when my blood sugar gets too low. I turn it into a free-for-all and eat whatever I can. Then by the time I realize what I'm doing it's usually too late and my blood sugar skyrockets. I think I've become better at it since I've started watching what I eat, because I know in the back of my mind that I will have to track the food/juice that I consume during a low blood sugar.

Guilty of binge eating and when it happens I literally LOAD the house with junk food. I've been able to successfully manage my diabetes with the exception of my diet. I'm recommitting myself to my diet/exercise plan. I think I'm going to lower my basal rate (proud pumper) so that I will not see many lows. I've also been taught how to lower my basal rate prior to exercise to prevent lows.

Great question and replies!

I am SO guilty of binge eating during low episodes sometimes. It is not too hard to control my intake (and drink a small cup of OJ or 3-4 glucose tabs) if my sugar isn't too low. However, when it drops really low really fast, I just lose my mind and eat everything in sight. I know better but it is so hard sometimes.

It helps me to check my BG midway during my exercise and always have my sugar supplies at hand. I have to admit, there are days that I don't feel very energetic to go on my treadmill.

During those times when my sugar was a bit low and my brain is not firing on all cyclinders, I have told my family to give me a simple command, like "Drink juice". This seems to help me concentrate on what I should be doing. At the same time, I don't need them to carry on multiple conversations because this would be a distraction. Thankfully, with consistent monitoring, I haven't had a hypoglycemic episode in quite a while.

I always carry a packet of fruit snacks with me. This was recommended by my nutritionist and it works every time.

If I am at home and my sugar is 45 - 70, I like a Del Monte peach cup ( 1 of a 4pk.) or a small apple juicy juice box, both of which are around 15 gr. of faster acting carbs. It may be easy to double the amount but of course we should check our BG 15 min. later so we don't overdue it.
When I am out at a mall, grocery store, or a 3 mile walk in the neighborhood, I keep handy in my purse/hip pouch some Mike n Ike's, glucose tabs, or the 2 oz. glucose liquid shot in a bottle. I need something fast especially when out walking.
For those rare instances when I am at home and my BG is 30 - 40, and I would also be a bit incoherent and unable to drink some juice, someone in my family will be able to give me a glucagon injection. This will bring me around in 5 - 10 minutes. It's nice to have handy in emergencies. Sometimes, an ambulance will be called ( as my neighbor did once). After the paramedics give you the IV bag with dextrose and you're feeling better in 15 minutes and you do not want to go to the ER at your local hospital, you sign a release paper. When you're insurance doesn't pay for the paramedics visit, you will get a bill for $75.00 or more.

Thank goodness those are rare occasions. Sorry for such a long note. Be safe!

STUFF MY FACE!! LOL
Seriously, I try not to do that, but it's hard. I use the small size Juicy Juice, which seems to kick in quickly. Then try to eat some protein afterwards.

I remind myself, "time for a treatment, not a treat."

You can eat an awful lot of food before your blood sugar comes up enough to realize you're ok.

I use toddler sized (15 grams) juice boxes once in awhile but because I'm most concerned about extra calories, I mostly treat with glucose tablets. Zero fat, low calorie, quick-acting.

As soon as I'm recovered, I work to determine why I went low in the first place and then make adjustments to correct the situation.
