Yes, sometimes it IS the biggest accomplishment just to survive the year!

Here are some 2010 accomplishments for me:

~ Completed my second half marathon.
~ Helped my husband to stay focused on work and school by taking care of as much as I could around the house.
~ Stuck with my job despite uncertainty and took risks (I'm not much of a risk taker by nature) to save my main client. Turned it over to God more than a few times, and checked my ego at the door.
~ Deepened a friendship with a new friend.
~ Maintained an A1C of 7.0 or less. I was disappointed with hitting 7.0, the highest it's been in number of years. But keeping it at or below that level is still an accomplishment.
~ Served Christ by faithfully leading two teams at church.

I did not lose any weight, and in fact gained in 2010. But I'm back to chipping away at that day by day. I'm training for my third 1/2 marathon, but am no longer under the illusion that exercise alone will help me with my weight loss goal. This year I want to be more grateful for and present in each moment. And to not let self defeating thoughts and behaviours sabotage reaching my goals.

I never post here, but I can say 2010 was probably the worst year ever for us. I have two boys, 2 1/2 and 15 months. They were sick off and on all summer, well, starting in March, everything from a cold, ear infections, just general infections from spider bites, RSV, and my older son even got salmonella. We thought that would be the worst of it, boy were we wrong. On 11/11/10 my 15 month old was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma, cancer in his retinas. It's a rare childhood cancer with a low mortality rate and his was caught in time but now we spend our time traveling between SC and Philly so he can get his eye exam and chemo once a month. We can't wait to celebrate the day he is officially cancer free.

Hello,

It's so fun to read about accomplishments and imagine the new list that we all we have at the end of the year! :)

CLSHEFFIELD2 - I recently added Simlin to my medicine, it's used to manage numbers, so maybe something you can talk to your Dr. about? I am also using it because it is supposed to curb your appetite and I really need that.

Congrats on your A1C! Personally, from some of the gloom and doom stories I've heard...I love hearing that someone is surviving Type 1 Diabetes for over 30 years...that's encouraging for someone like me that's basically just starting out (2 years).

Superduper...yay, you have had some Superduper accomplishments year. EIGHT whole miles??? I am tired just writing it. I have a degree in Accounting, so I totally understand that accomplishment. I long for the day that I can wear the dress that I bought a few years ago that zips. Life is about growing and evolving and I too ended a long term relationship not too long ago. My Pastor told me today, let the past be the past! It's time to move on. Congrats on surviving a mommy visit, funny how that works as adults.

Let's see if we can all come back at the end of the year and say that we 'aced' that A1C. Wishing you all the best in 2011!

I ran 8 miles one day without stopping.
I passed Advanced Accounting with a solid C, not just the C- I was hoping for.
I finally managed to zip the dress I bought 2 years ago on eBay.
I'm making slow, slow, progress on the emotional front of ending an 8 year relationship. Slow progress is still progress though and thats what we're after.
I've asked for help. Not with big huge things, but even asking for help with small things is a step in the right direction. I can't do everything on my own all the time.
I had a one-on-one visit with my mom and survived.

Diabetes-wise its been a pretty hit-and-miss year. Last A1C was still 7.1 (been bouncing between 7.1 and 8.1 for years now), but I finally let my doctor add metformin to my routine and its made a decent difference. Post-meal highs are 200-250 now, not 350-400, so I'm hoping the next A1C will be better.

I have been Type 1 for 36 years and finally had an A1C below 7. It's been a battle to get there. I'm looking forward to trying a CGM this year to help recognize my tends!

Congratulations great accomplishments! Wonderful wonderful bouncing baby boy!!!

When did you go on the pump? I started the pump a year after diagnosis. I LOVE it...life is so much easier. It was a challenge in the beginning, but well worth it.

Wishing you the best for the 8 pounds to be gone soon! Waiting on the day when I am only 8 pounds away from goal. emoticon

Great topic!!! I had a healthy baby boy keeping my a1c below 5.1 the entire pregency. I am currently only 6lbs away from my pre-pregency weight after 8 months. I exercise 5 to 6 times a week and continue to keep my a1c below 6.

I also faced my fears and went on the pump. It is amazing!!!

For the new year I hope to take off the last 6lbs and then an additonal 10 lbs. It is going to be a lot of hard work....but I'm going to try.
