thaks for that info that helps alot. I got copy's of all my scripts so i can carry supplies on the plane like glclose monitor and lancets and a site change god forbid try explining that to the guy next to you ( he he he )got gluclose tabs and glucogon once agian god forbid needing it. peanutbutter crackers and I am taking an extra lancet device with me because for some weird reason I keep breaking them while doing alternitive site testing. got 3 vials worth of insulin since i take about 100 to 120 units a day. umm I am just being safe and carrying all diabetes supplies and seizure meds with me on the plane that way if they loose my luggage I am still okay heath wise. umm on another note I still love this pump went to follow up with the doc who handles all my diabetes care on saturday ( yes a great doc he opens his office for sick care on sat. till 12 for those of us who need to see him ) he said it has taken me yrs to get you on that pump and now you would not give it up until there is a cure I just giggled he is always right for some reason. I don't have to worry so much on the ambulance because I just use the shorter tubing and tape the excess to my side thus getting rid of chance that it would get pulled out. I learned that site changes are easier for me with out the inserter. I have lost weight cutting the lantus out and just using the humalog doc said that would happen and it will settle in the following weeks not to worry about the weight loss hey I am not complianing!! well let me go pack gotta make sure i dont miss anything

I hope this isn't too late to help. My Dad works with the TSA and he told me to wear as little metal as possible now that I have my pump because the metal detector works on a kind of cumulative effect. I usually wear sportswear becuase there aren't any zippers, snaps, etc. so my pump is the only metal on me (I even take off my earrings and wedding rings, etc. 'cause I hate being wanded). Also, you cannot be made to remove your pump, even if the metal detector goes off. They should just wand you if the detector goes off. If you want it in writing, go to the TSA website. Also, if you let the screeners know you have a pump they usually don't care unless the metal detector goes off and then they just wand you and let you go on your way.

Well, it sounds like you are all prepared! Now just for the rest and relaxation part!! That's a good idea to pack food, too. I usually just take a few snacks.
To what part of Florida are you going? I hope you can heal peacefully there!

I always figure if I'm going to a well-populated area I can get prescriptions for emergency lantus or whatever filled there, so I don't actually carry all that around, just the paper scripts. I do however take at least twice as many infusion sets as I would need normally and a million test strips and a spare bottle of humalog. I've never had pump problems at an airport, they don't set off the detectors and as long as you "hide" it the security people don't see it and think its a phone or whatever and make you take it off. I make sure ALL of my paraphenalia (and a days worth of food) is in my carry-on, which usually means thats all I get to take with me. I've had enough lost/misrouted luggage to know better than to chance it.
Have a good time!

I had to return 3 boxes of the quicksets cause they were all lot 8 but 1 was lot 9 they sent me the silhouettes cause i wanted to change I love them. I am taking what seems to be more supplies then clothes lol but cant be too cautious. my doc is writing the letter and i am having all the script labels printed out for safety. i hope all these precautions will help prevent any problems that may arise. I got humalog pens and dosing for mdi's if nessary and pen needles so we will see

Do you have a minimed pump? If so, do you know about the recall of the quick-set infusions? I didn't until today and it affected me on vacation. Just make sure to take a lot of extra supplies, and if you can, a back-up pump, usually available from the pump manufacturer. My pump's circuit board failed when I was in Florida, and I had to go back to MDI's and didn't have a scale or remember my doses. When I was in Gatlinburg, the vehicle in which I was traveling broke down and I had to spend a
few extra days there. Thank God I took extra supplies. Also, with all of the extra security in the airports, I had a letter from my doctor explaining why I had to have all of the syringes and supplies with me on the plane and what my pump was so I wouldn't be forced to remove it if it set off the metal detector. Have a great time. It sounds like you are going on vacation just in time. Hopefully, vacation will speed up your recovery. emoticon
Oh, and don't forget your sunscreen!!

I took my kid to the ER once because he had some ketones, and the doctor knew less about diabetes than we did. She sure liked taking a look at his pump--she'd never seen one before!

Glad it worked out for you!
I was thinking the other day that I should tape instructions to the back of my pump to tell well-meaning medical types NOT to push any buttons without calling my doctor first. I'm not sure that anyone would stop to read the directions, but at least that way I can say I tried?
Good luck car shopping, and be safe!

GREAT story. The best part is that you are okay and that they didn't screw it up any more than they did. The last time I was in ER, for DKA, mind you, they were insisting that I took my pump off. I accused them of trying to kill me and advised them to call my doctor. It is so frustrating and kind of scary to realize that you know more than the people who are being paid (big bucks)to keep you alive!
I am so happy that you are okay and your cast matches your pump. I just ordered my new pink pump today. I have had purple forever and I am so anxious to get my favorite color! Any thing that is new helps the boredom. emoticon Be careful and I hope you feel better soon!

so got in a wreck nothing too bad well for me anyway the car is totaled but i got out with road rash a broken arm and concussion. anyway I got knocked out so don't remember anything of the wreck the emts and medics tried to wake me i would not wake but apperently after my pump went off for bg check reminder I woke to that funny in its self. well doc somehow messed with my pump and suspended my basal ( don't touch if you don't know ) my BG when we got there was 138 not bad actually very proud of that. after argueing with them in ct scan that I can have my pump in there or xray and pain meds they get blood work and my sugar is 547 in 2 hrs?? geeze!! stress so I though ohh maybe my pump got hit wrong or i didnt reconnect right nope it was because I was getting no basal!!! the doc said she just wanted to know why it was beeping!! ughh I told her next time ask or get someone who knows. she was just amazaed at how fast I could fix everything 2 hrs later a great nap from meds and driving all night my sugar was back to 147 how awsome is that got to love bolus!! needless to stay my stay would have been shorter if they would have left the amazement of the pump alone!! needless to say it was funny I got out about 11am so got my friend to bring me chick fla and the doc didnt like that but after proving to her once agian that the pump is amazing she left me alone and gave me a pink cast to match the pink pump lol. Now on to car shopping. Gotta love the pump
