No real complications after 36 years! I credit my parents with getting us (me and my brother) to an endocrinologist right away. That, plus a TON of blood, sweat and tears!!! And, I think, some luck. Hope it holds out.

Jeff
31 years old
Diagnosed T1DM in June 1994 (approaching 14 yrs)
Other diag: ADD? (being managed by Dr, but never recieved formalized testing/diagnosis)

Complications: Had one spot show up as non-proliferative retinopathy as last check. This happened previously and it was not detected at following checkup, so I am hoping if I can regain tight control this will be the case again. Have been slack lately and trying to get back in strict control.

Started on the pump in Fall of 2005, Deltec Cozmo, only pump used so far.

No CGMS

Yerachmiel, congrats on approaching that 50+ club, that is pretty good stuff. My mother in law is one of the Joslin FIFTY clubbers and has had relatively few complications and is in pretty good shape.

I was also a Joslin person, but moved about 1.5 years ago, really wish i was still there.

She is a inspiration to me knowing that she is in good shape after all these years considering the how much care has improved since she was diagnosed. Gives me hope that I can live a long health life as well.

Either I'm going to have to create a web page to collect this data for us (and display as it's collected) or I'm going to have to find someone in the SPARK development group that can help out.

I'd love to create a system with dropdowns (so can choose current medications, pump, meter, drugs) as well as fill ins and all kinds of statistical functions.

Anyone ever create a survey using the Spark tools?? Can I write simple html/jpeg on a standard spark page (i.e. put in a 'window' into which we project our own designed page)).

In a fit of true data correctness I made a few mistakes (which should have been REALLY obvious and were not picked up by anyone)...

A few notes on the above:

I could have really used the CGMS since '99 since Minimed already had it working by then but they didn't release as a consumer product until a few years ago!

Joslin's 50 award is for FIFTY YEARS of diabetes (not fifty years of life). They also have a twenty five year program.

Basically a person sends them whatever records they have of their original diagnosis (with date) so they can have a 'firm' start date. Once they have the 25 year record they claim to keep and track them for the next stage. (I'll let you all know in around two and half years)...

Possibly also have celiac disease and gastroparesis, but haven't gotten a clear diagnosis on either. Asthma too, but pretty well managed right now so not much of a problem, hooray!
First pump in Jan 2003
All pumps have been Minimed Paradigm, I'm on my third upgrade so now I have the 522 but I don't remember what the older 2 were... maybe 515 and 512?
CGM intermittently since June 2008 (I'm still waiting for insurance to decide to cover it before using all the time).

Name: Carey Lisk

DOB: 06/21/82

YR of DX: Forever and a Yr ago Just kidding April of 99'

DX's of complications: Chronic kidney issues including Kidney infections about 3 times a month and Kidney stones about 2 times a month. Gastroparesis aka Stomach paralysis not too bad though it just slows digestion it is a serious complication if you don't catch it early and keep your sugar under control some diabetics have never even heard of it.

Pump: not for me I perfer MDI's as I get better control for me anyways.

CGM's: none I test enough and keep a diary of my BG reading so I can look for trends.

I'm thinking of compiling a set of 'statistics' on the team members
(% M/F)
(age)
(age diagnosed)
(years on pump)
(years on CGMS)

Might also want to compile the complications we've each had. This will make a great place for 'personal research' (am I the ONLY one) and also give each of us a chance to ask and be asked when a 'new' symptom or whatnot happens.

I might add that as long as I don't pay too much attention to my doctors latest theories I'll be a member of the Joslin FIFTY club in less than three years!!! And the youngest member to join for at least the next fifteen!!

Yerachmiel

You can do any of the following (in my preference order):

1] email me directly with the data requested
a] name
b] birthdate
c] diabetes diagnosis
d] other major diagnosis (heart, liver, kidney, stomach)
e] date of first pump
f] list of pumps have been on
g] current pump
h] year began on CGMS (continuous glucose moniter)...
