I didn't take measurements when I began, so I don't have any reference points.

I've been on a two-day sulk, but I'm back now.

I have a question: has anyone on this team used both the Total Trainer and the TG? I have the Total Trainer, and I am intrigued by the crunch thing and the cyclo trainer? Is there enough difference between the two to warrant a change, or am I just thinking the grass is greener on the other side of the fence?

it sucks a lot when this happens, but try measuring, did you lose any inches?

Good to see you here Lilac. I've been falling down and getting up in the battle of the bulge for decades. The TG is a good tool for getting in shape, at least for me, because it's fun to use and it makes me feel good all over after I finish a workout with it. emoticon

I finally worked out on my TG. Did 20 minutes. Good for me I have to watch my shoulders (both rotator cuffs redone) and my back. I feel really good, I even dusted off the machine and organized my parts etc. Now to do it again on Monday

REMEMBER: I have had this before. I know what it tastes like, AND ITS KILLING Me ! IS IT REAL HUNGER OR HEAD & HEART HUNGER?

Something about growing up there in Bear Bryant years and being the oldest of 4 girls, I'm sure! Watching football was a way to spend time with my dad, and now a way to connect with the family back home. when they are winning, I can get a lot more info on them. When Bama is having a bad year, I can't find anything here in FLorida- the Gators take over!

It sounds as if you were just a wee bit more enthusiastic about this game than I was. If it was my decision alone, I doubt I would ever watch another football game. But, it's a passion for my husband and sons. I don't love football, but I do love them. emoticon

I had to watch the game as well, Roll TIDE!
I grew up in Tuscaloosa, and remember the Joe Namath days...
We had a great cruise as far as seeing old friends, but it was pretty cold. I couldn't get my Blackberry to work too well after we passed Miami either. Didn't take many pics, hmm, not sure why, but it could be b/c we were all bundled up and didn't look as good as we'd like. SO back on plan, low carb, TG X 3 days a week and bike. Oh, and the Wii fit. Getting used to that.

I did an abbreviated workout tonight due to the nat'l championship game. My tg is in the same room as the big screen, and ... well ... i guess that says it all.

I fold it out to use, then fold it back when I finish. My bike and the tg are in one room; the elliptical in another.

When I build my dream house, I'm going to put an exercise room in it. Does anyone here have such a room? How do you furnish it, etc?

I don't have any resolutions, per se, but I do have a few goals.

1. Walk 9 holes of golf by March.
2. Walk up all 5 flights of stairs to my office by May.
3. Take a golfing vacation in Phoenix with my husband next winter about this time.

As for TG, I use it in a combined exercise plan with a recumbent bike and elliptical: recumbent bike 6 days/week; tg and elliptical on alternate days. So far, it's working well and has helped me avoid boredom, which is the first enemy of any workout plan for me.

Anyone have any new years resolutions? I've totally fallen off the SP bandwagon and need to get back on it. I've maintained my weight loss, but have gotten a bit soft (versus toned). I've resolved to do at least a 15 minute workout each day. Since I'll be travelling for most of the next month and a half I think this is a good start. I plan on bringing my resistance band and workout clothes with me wherever I travel. I've even set up a dedicated google calendar on my Palm Pre so I can keep track of and visualize my 15 minute daily streak. What are you doing for the new year?

Thanks, all ready in sort of warm climes, in Jacksonville, northeast Florida. We leave from here and go to the Bahamas. Not as warm as my usual cruise down there, but should be fun.

That heart monitor will help you a lot when you need to know if you are doing cardio! What a great gift.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Mine was way too busy, and did not work out much at all. Leaving on a short cruise tomorrow. But the good news is that my hubby's ready to get serious about losing weight and getting back in shape, and that makes it a LOT easier for me.
Hope you all have a wonderful New Year!

Well, I guess I'm back on track. I did my tg workout, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Now, I have that warmed up all over great feeling that doing these workouts always gives me. I went slowly because it had been over a week and one of the reasons was that I'd had dental work, but I finished the entire workout and even raised the resistance for the squats.

Tomorrow I'll just do my recumbent bike and elliptical, then Wednesday back to the recumbent bike and TG. Whether I use the TG or the elliptical, the bike seems to make a nice warm up. When I use the TG, I always crank the bike up to a tougher program, since it's my dedicated cardio for the day. However, I think I am getting cardio from the TG, as well. I do the workout as a circuit and I know my heart rate goes up and stays up while I'm doing it. I got a ... I don't know what you call it -- a watch that has a band that goes around my chest and keeps track of my heart rate -- for Christmas. I'll try to get it all figured out and working by Wednesday. Then, I'll know if the TG qualifies as cardio, or not.

Today I unfold the trainer and do my workout for the first time in a week and a half. I am so looking forward to it. There is nothing that makes me feel better in an all-over-every-muscle sort of way.

My dentist's office called this morning; wanted me to come in tomorrow. I told them I would wait and wanted to come in next week. You would think that I had shot them through the heart. They had a cancellation and wanted to do all sorts of things to me in the open time; claimed that they were "booked" next week and didn't know if they could "work" me "in."

Ho-hum. I'll bet they find an opening soon. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy this week of feeling good and celebrating. Next week is soon enough for fun and frolic at the dentist's office.

Merry Christmas to all!

I guess I'm going to do a big flop with this month's challenge. Last week, I missed my 2nd TG workout because I was bummed out and tired from things in my life. Then, I missed the third workout because of dental work.

Now, I can't figure out how to fold out the machine. It's in the same room with the Christmas tree, and we have soooooo many presents under the tree that there's no room. I considered moving all the packages and then putting them back after I finish. I thought about moving the machine to another room. But, there really isn't any room to fold it out ANYWHERE without moving things around.

So, I think I'm going to just do my elliptical/recumbent bike combination this week. I'm going to add a set of calisthenics (sit ups, leg lifts, stretches) to make up a little bit for not doing the trainer. The sad part is I'm probably going to miss some of my workouts next month, too, since I have to do at least 4 more sessions with the dentist, each of which will put me out of commission for a day or so. I intend to take a shot at the January challenge -- faint heart never fair maiden won -- but it will be hit and miss as the dental work allows.

Now, the good news. I need to buy new clothes! My trousers are so loose that they're sliding down to my hips (I always buy natural waist pants, don't like hip huggers) and they are bunching around my ankles. I can pull them out at the waist, the hips, the thighs and there's a lot of empty cloth. So, after Christmas sales, here I come!

I've only lost about 6 pounds. I really believe that this is a loss of inches because of my regular use of the Total Trainer, ie, Total Gym. There was a question in another post as to whether or not this thing "works." The answer is yes, beyond anything I expected.

I still have a lot of weight to lose, but the changes from using this equipment are well worth the effort, even without ANY weight loss, and I believe it is also helping me lose pounds, since I still eat a lot and manage to lose, albeit slowly. (According to the sp nutrition reporting thingy, I eat 1800 -- 2100 calories/day most of the time, although there are days when I eat more. I didn't lost at first, but now I'm going down about a half pound to a pound each week.)

Kudos to the TG. It's some of the best money I ever spent.

Merry Christmas!

This has been a crappy week. Not disastrous. In fact, I feel that God has helped me, several times. But it HAS been crappy.

I missed three days of workouts. One of them because I was too bummed; the other two because I had health reasons.

Today, even though it's the last day of this crappy week and not the first day of what I hope will be a wonderful Christmas week, today I start over. New Day. Fresh Start. Hooray for second chances, new beginnings and do-overs. Don't we all need them?

I'm still plugging away at my x3/week Total Gym schedule.

I began this journey, not with a diet, but with a big splurge of exercise-machine-buying. I bought, in the space of a couple of weeks, a recumbent bike, and elliptical and a Total Trainer. I didn't exactly have a plan, and that's putting it mildly. I didn't begin trying to cut calories until just recently. All my little tiny bit of weight loss so far has come from these three machines, which is why it's so low, I guess.

One thing that really bugs me, even now, is that I GAINED about 4 pounds the first couple of weeks I used the machines. Then, it started sliding down ... slowly and fitfully. Too strange.

I managed to do my recumbent bike and Total Trainer today, despite it being the day of my aunt's funeral. Now, I'm vegging in front of the tv. No apologies for that. It's been a long day and vegging seems right.

I finally did a Total Gym workout today. I think it's been a few weeks, especially since the room was so junked up with Christmas boxes that I couldn't even get to it.

P.S. OKLABECCA, my condolences on the loss of your aunt.

My husband's aunt died Monday. In truth, I view her as my aunt as well as his. I love her dearly. She was a wonderful person and I have no doubt at all that she is with Jesus. She was Protestant, so there won't be a wake. Instead, we're having a "viewing" of her body this afternoon. The funeral will be tomorrow.

Do you leave your TG set up or do you fold it away after you workout? I HAVE to fold my Total Trainer away every time. That makes using it a "big deal" since it's built like a tank. If I had the space to leave it set up, I'm sure I would use it in a less regimented way than I do now.

Had a great trip with all the fam! It was good to spend a lot of time with my mom. I did take my wii fit with me and used it some, but have to admit I have done nothing since TG. Saturday was the 8 hour drive back home, followed by our boat light parade, but I"m ready for the Dec challenge and will try it tonight.

I do my Total Trainer x3/week on Mon, Wed & Fri. I skipped last Fri because of T-Day. I alternate the TT with an elliptical on Tu, Th & Sat. I do the recumbent bike every day. Needless to say, I skipped ALL of it.

Today, I did my Trainer + recumbent bike for the first time since last Wed. Yikes! The bike was fine, but the Trainer kicked my ... er ... glutes.

Now I feel great, the way working out always makes me feel. But during my workout, I thought I was going to die and was kind of afraid I wouldn't.

Anybody else have trouble getting started today?

Yesterday, I cleaned out the front flower beds. Now it's time to get off my butt, get dressed, drag up all the boxes with my Christmas decorations, and start to work on the outside. I think I'll put my emoticon up too. My daughter won't be here for Christmas. She goes to San Diego and Denver with her boyfriend of four years to visit his parents, and she hasn't seen her home here decorated in a while. Since she'll be here for Thanksgiving I thought I'd have it decorated, and then have her present under the tree (if it's ready). My DH has gotten into staining boxes. He gets real cheap ones from Michael's or Hobby Lobby, sands them, stains them and then puts the finish on them. Oh my, I bet he's done over 50 so far, from small ones, and now he's doing big ones.

He's doing one full set of four different sizes for each of our kids for Christmas. Never thought he'd get into something like this, and once he got started he couldn't stop. We have boxes EVERYWHERE, but they're so neat.

Anyway, that's my plans for today.

P.S. Check out my new BLOG picture! I made myself into a Turkey!

Have a great trip Leah! I plan on getting out my many boxes of Christmas decorations, clean out my front flower beds (have to do that before I can put my decorations up), and then get outside and put them up while the weather is still warm.

yeah, I need to get back to the real circuit training with biking and TG. I do better in cooler weather, so we'll see.

I'm focusing more on cardio these days to burn some fat. and the cardio I do always has some weight training with it so I haven't done much on my TG either.

The copy and paste is the easy part. It's adding up all the points that is the hard part emoticon , and for that I do apologize. emoticon I'm just now finding that out as I go through and do mine.

On the plus side, if you add the individual TG exercises to your favorites, then at least they will be there. I sent SparkPeople a message to see if they can get it to where members can share exercises like we can share food on the Nutrition Tracker. Hopefully they'll be able to add that.

Also, I have a Total Gym Resistance Chart that shows how much weight you're actually using when you use the machine. I don't know if the rest of you have that, but I'll scan it and add it to the photos, then you can print it out and know exactly how much weight you're using when you do your exercises.

YEA! perserverance pays!
So glad to hear you like the bike and that hubby might even be able to use it. Cycling with the board up is a trip, and I agree, I do the circuit training as often as I can, I even count it that way in my SP fitness.
My next fav is the crunch attachment, but you can get the idea with the pull up bar and gliding the board up on your knees.

I like the bicycle attachment, but due to other committments and deadlines, I haven't been able to use it as much as I want yet. I'm hoping to have time tonight for a cycle session.

The room is small, and the diagonal idea didn't work without lots of furniture rearranging, so my first use had it lined up with the upright post in the hall doorway. Lots of tugging around to line things up. ehh. I just cycled with the glideboard down.

Watched the video and got some ideas, and really liked combining the cycling with the regular workout. Measured carefully again. Nope, twelve inches too short. A couple of days later, while doing my workout, the mental lightbulb flickered a little brighter.... I store the TG in a closet, and set it up in a straight line right outside that closet. I normally close the door right away to keep the cats out (closet also stores Christmas decorations, yarn, and other cat delights.) But...if I opened the door, and swung the cycle attachement inside (it's stored just outside the door right now), I'd have room, and the cats would probably be unlikely to wander inside to explore while I was cycling.

So Wednesday, I added 5 minutes cycling in place of the squats, and did several stints with the glide board up. I like. And so far, cats are watching it from the hall doorway.

AND, my husband is interested in using it too! He doesn't use the TG because the model I have isn't long enough for him (I'm 5'6.5", he's 6'1") But he would be able to use the cycling attachment. Years ago, we used to bicycle a lot when we lived in town, but now live right at the edge of town, with a highway with a narrow gravel shoulder and deep ditches. It can be hazardous enough when we walk the half mile to the shopping center at the corner of the two highways, we don't want to bike that shoulder!
