I had one of those weekends when it seemed I could not stick to my plan. We took our boat to the air show, which is neat, but everyone brought high fat/carb chips and food. then we went to a football game Sunday. No time to work out, except for walking.
Ever have one of those weekends that make you glad for Monday health-wise?

Thank You! I will look a little closer at it. Perhaps I just passed over it!

From the team page, scroll down to where you see the heading "Monthly Challenges and Workouts Forum" the challenge threads are in that forum. Not all the threads show up, so to find the week you are looking for you may have to click on the forum title to show all the topics in that forum. We are currently on week 3 and I will post week 4 later today. Let me know if you're still having trouble locating the challenge.

I joined this group, but I still don't see where to start the challenge. I clicked on the link just below this post and it took me to the Team page! How do I join the challenge??

So, I'm thinking that instead of continuing the streaking challenge in November (ie adding a 5th goal for Nov week 1) maybe we should restart it so that others have a chance to join in if they want. What does everyone think? Do you want to continue building, or start fresh?

No at all. Yes, each goal each week gets points. So for week two we had two goals for the week. Each goal we could earn up to 6 points each (that includes the bonus point) for a total of 12 points for the second week. Now I hope I'm not being obtuse lol emoticon

I know I am being obtuse, but as we add goals each weeks, we get points for each goal? Some days I may make one, but not another. Thanks

The first day gets no points, so the most points you can get in a week is 6 (that includes the bonus point). Below is copied from from the initial post that goes over the challenge:

5 points for making your goal at least 6 days of the week
4 for 5 days
3 for 4 days
2 for 3 days
1 for 2 days
0 for 1 day

PLUS you will get 1 bonus point for meeting the goal ALL 7 days.

Pamela, in the streaking challenge how many points do you get if you meet a goal for all 7 days? Do you get 7 points because of the bonus point?

Thanks, we had a great time! Walking in that soft sand is great exercise, plus we got a ladder golf game, so I was able to stay pretty active. Haven't weighed yet...but it doesn't matter, it was great to see my family and the friends who live close to where we stayed.

I'm headed out of town to meet my sister, her daughters, and my mom in Orange Beach, Al. on the beautiful Redneck Riviera! I'm taking small hand weights as well as resistance bands, and they have a gym in the complex.
My hubby will be the only guy with 5 women...
I'm taking my laptop, so I'll be online some.
See ya Spark Friends!

The journal on the "Planner" page is private. That's the only private one. All the other places to enter notes show up on your SparkPage (for the food and exercise journals, you have to have them shared for them to show up on your page).

I switched back to the 3x a week TG workout, but when I was doing the 5-6 day/week workout I was only doing Monday-Friday. I like to have my weekends off, and if I miss a day I have an extra day to make it up while still getting a rest day.

I don't think pedometers work for biking... I have one and it doesn't work when I'm on my elliptical either. I have mine attached to my day hike bag and mainly use it when I take the dogs on hikes.

Thanks for the info. Since I bike more than walk, do they work for biking?

Anyway- question- do you take Saturday or Sunday as your day off from working out? I started with Sunday off, but then it seemed that I had so much to do on Saturdays, I switched to Sat. being my off day, but now, we have football on Sundays, (and some Saturdays), so I'm not sure what I will do to stay on a workout plan for he weekend. I may switch to a 5 day TG workout.
Fall will be a challenge- trying to work out, AND eat right at the games. At least I cook for the away games, so I can make sure I have healthy stuff around (and no chips, my personal downfall/favorite bad food for watching games).

I totally think that a lot of it is due to my strength training on the TG.

I know what you mean about the lower back hurting... I've been doing those reverse crunches in the August workout... and they're rough on my back if I don't do them just right. But I can really feel the burn in my lower abs.

I saw an ad for a crunch machine where you rocked your knees and legs, and it looked good. Total Gym has a version they call the Ab Cruncher. It was on sale, so I tried it, and I really like it. Its the first ab machine I've used that does not hurt my back at all. It really works the lower abs.

You're right, its much better than the virtual model. Good way to motivate. I'm trying old pictures of me, but I think I really need a picture of a 52 year old who's in good shape instead.

Thanks, but I can't take the credit for that... the "after" pic in my profile picture is actually a photoshopped image from WeightView.com! You send them a current picture and tell them how much you weigh now, and how much weight you plan to lose and they alter your image to give you a photo of what you will look like when you reach your goal weight. I think it is much more motivating than the virtual model image I had before... because it's me... but skinny! emoticon

I have an Omron pedometer too. It's home is clipped to my day pack though since I only use it when my boyfriend and I take the dogs on a hike. I have an elliptical and a treadmill in my "gym" (aka: my dungeon of a garage). I really like the elliptical as far as getting the most bang for your buck. I burn a lot more calories on my elliptical than I do on my treadmill in the same amount of time. Though I have been doing the Couch to 5k program for a few weeks now, so my treadmill has been getting more use lately.

Great idea!! I actually have the Nike / iPod combination I use for walking. It's a great combination in that it gives you not only your favorite tunes, but it keeps really accurate records of your walks. You can review your progress on Nike's page, which automatically loads when you sync your iPod.

Suggestion....don't spend the extra $$$ on the "special Nike" shoes. The fob is very small and will fit comfortably into any walking / running shoe...fits best under the arch. Plug in the small adapter into your iPod...and you're off!!

Here's a good link to the details:

Hi all! I thought I would create a thread for general team chit chat. Feel free to post anything you want in this thread! Feel free to post anywhere in the team's forum for that matter! I just though it would be nice to have a place for miscellaneous chat. On that note, I found a link to a free pedometer offer and I thought I would let you all know about it in case you don't already have a pedometer!

Free Pedometer and exercise DVD from Tylenol. Just join their Just Keep Moving program. Check it out
www.justkeepmoving.com

I haven't checked out the link, so let me know what you think.
