@alicedixie yes they certainly are! I grew up here in Murfreesboro and it is amazing how big it has gotten. Everytime I drive through town I see something new. It is definitely a blessing and a curse sometimes

Frozen shoulder is on the mend now. Has been so painful. I did a lot of heavy sailing when I was younger and worked the lines. I believe that has come back to haunt me. Nice sunny day here in Nashville area. Looks like it might get to the 60's here by Sat.

I am still here. Have been dealing with a frozen shoulder for some time. It is slowly getting better with regular exercises.

I wasn't thinking about this, but probably I should get my niece and nephews a little something for Christmas. I always do - I usually give them something small, like you said Kelly - a little something to wrap, like socks or gloves, and then a gift card. But for Greg in DIL, it might end up being cash, though i would prefer actual gifts for them, they definitely need $$$. We traditionally go to Jamie's grandmother's for Christmas but with her being gone, we are looking forward to staying home and having a quiet few days, but then DIL said she was wanting us to come there and spend it with her grandma. I'd love to just be home and maybe go to a midnight service or something - but I am not making any plans yet.

Some of the trees in our 'hood are still trying to make up their minds if they are going to completely change colors or just do a little, kind of neat looking at them.

Cloudy out now, doesn't look promising for much sunshine.

Most of the family prefers cash, I find a little something to go with that and always wrap the envelope. It's taken a lot of years to get used to doing that but I'd rather do that than have it end up in the trash or collecting dust.

I've loving this fall weather! We've got a lot of maple trees around here, this why we are seeing some lovely color, otherwise, yeah, I think most of the leaves are drying up and falling off. I might go get the rest of my parent's Christmas gifts too, then I can wrap them them - after that I will only need to shop for Greg and DIL, our friend Chris and for hubby's parents. I don't like giving cash but Greg and DIL could really use the money so we shall see.

We've got gas hot water and the pool heater is gas so we always have some kind of gas bill but I was hoping to avoid starting up that furnace too soon - but it just got too cold in that house too fast. It's not a new house so I am sure the insulation isn't the best - but I will say that the furnace and AC both work really well!

Anyway, here's to Friday, I might be at the office very late today, story of my life, and it's rainy this morning, but the weekend has arrived and I am thinking I won't have to work quite as much this time!

Gosh, another great day yesterday, the temps are going to go down again, then again it is October. The moon the past few nights has been just beautiful, sat outside for awhile just to watch it.

I've done river rowing and it was a lot of fun, for some reason doing the machine wasn't. I'm saying it was because of my knees not liking it, Gloria I think you would like if you tried it again. Of course being on the river; I was wayyyyy younger.

Unfortunately, seems the gas company gets a minimum usage charge, just like the water company and probably NES. I am very grateful to have gas v electric for heat though. Laughing because Saturday morn I was quick to grab my woolly sox!

Wednesday already? Have a good one!

Carol! Tell me about the rowing machine. I have tried rowing at the gym, I kind of like it!

Hubby finally turned the heat on this morning. It is funny that I held out longer than he did because I am the cold one here. I've just been bundling up because I didn't want to give the gas company any money before I had to.

Carol hope you took some me time this weekend. I don't know who keeps getting in my pantry and tossing it. Watching the Brewers game the other night, it was 38 at 8:30p, Sad to see they aren't going to the world series though. It'll be interesting to see how cold it is in Boston especially for night games. It is just crazy how long the post season goes isn't it?

I hear you about not living up north. Every time I go to NY late fall and winter, I am reminded why we weren't in a big hurry to move back, especially upstate. It is all that you get used to I guess. Our first summer in Houston we thought we had moved to a big ole oven, luckily, we adjusted quickly..

Is Rocky your pup? What kind or is he my fav, a curb squatter breed?

It may have been wet mornings this weekend but it sure turned beautiful as the day went on, hope it was like that everywhere.

Everyone have a great week, don't forget to breathe Gloria!

Good Morning!

Talked with my sister in WI yesterday and they are expecting snow this weekend. I’m thinking it is way too early for that, but after being down here 25 years a person loses touch with the weather patterns elsewhere! I am just enjoying the cooler weather. Rocky even likes it better – he wants to be outside more of the time.

Gloria, glad to hear that your parents are holding their own. It is so hard to be away from their home when they are ailing. They tend to make light of how they are really feeling – they don’t want you to worry!

We haven’t turned on the heat yet either, but I think the beginning of next week we might need to – they say lows in the upper 30’s. Today it is 44 out.

Kelly, I have always been an early bird. Enjoy the peace and quiet the hour or so gives me. When I worked, I would go in early so that I could get some of my work done before my employees came in. I never knew what would come up during the day, so having things in order on my desk (or as much as possible) made for less stress in my life! Traffic was also better early in the morning, and I would leave before the onset of Rush hour traffic going home.

Today I want to start cleaning cupboards. Have laundry and general cleaning to do and will make a trip to the gym. Did I tell you that our rowing machine arrived a couple of weeks ago. I am really enjoying that – do it the days we don’t hit the gym.

Hope you have a super day….and weekend!
Carol

Snow, yuck! I am kind of scared of snow. Seems like every Thanksgiving when we are in Michigan it snows! And when I was up there in April they had freezing rain and I had to hunker down until that kind of melted off - fortunately by lunch time. Carol, thanks for inquiring about my parents, my mom is doing okay, still not getting around much but she is getting adventurous and she is using her cane a little bit. She just needs to build up her confidence I think. She found out recently that she has macular degeneration and vitreous detachment so that is worrying her a lot. Dad is doing okay, but he has fallen a few times lately himself - she says they need to move but I think he doesn't see that and she realizes but doesn't want to.

Yeah, I am kind of freaked out by the fact that Thanksgiving is just over a month away - at least the weather is finally acting like it should for this time of year! I have still not turned the heat on but even hubby is complaining and with what is forecast for the weekend, I am guessing we won't have a choice.

You were up early Carol!

Sitting here in a sweatshirt over jammies and socks, refuse to turn on the heat. At least it seems we may dry out, I can take the cold and will take the gully washers over sleet.

A friend shared pictures of a dusting of snow and ice on the the trees etcat a pumpkin patch in Omaha this weekend! So I'm not surprised about WI. I know, time flies doesn't it? Go and enjoy yourselves, it is so pretty up there.

Nothing exciting around here, everyone have a great day and don't forget to take time for yourselves.

Good Morning!

Not sure what all I have been up to, but I have not been on the boards much that's for sure! Have taken a couple of rides, washed windows and did some fall house cleaning. Days just seem to slip by. It does seem nice to have cooler weather - hopefully it will stay with us for a bit.

Gloria, how are your parents doing? Hoping your Mom is doing better so your Dad doesn't have as much stress.

I heard tell there was snow in northwestern WI the other day! Hubby has agreed to go up there for Thanksgiving as our granddaughter will be turning 18 that day! Wow, where does the time go?? It certainly doesn't seem possible that half of October is over - and that Thanksgiving and Christmas is right around the corner!

Hope this finds everyone well~

I had to overwhelming thought of taking a nap reading all you did last weekend Gloria, haha!

You are not the only one who does stuff and doesn't share, I do it and know others who do too. You are doing something you enjoy so that is a great hobby, be even better if you shared your talent!

Gloria, that is NOT good to work that long without breaks, you know it and your bod is going to get even with you. It is easy for us to encourage you to push away from that desk, willing to bet I am not the only one who walked in your shoes too.

Crazy weather isn't it?

Sounds like the reunion was a fun time Kelly, I think that is so neat that you all are still friends and still get together and do that!! I guess we are going to have a cool down with this big cold front, seems like we are going from mid-July to mid-November all in a couple of days. Where is the fall transition here? Ha!

Anyway, worked a little over the weekend, not too bad but I am still tired! Worked 6:30 a.m to 8:00 p.m. Monday with no breaks - no wonder I'm tired, right? Well, left yesterday a bit earlier to tend to continuing education, this is my reporting year and I am BEHIND!

Hiked eight miles at Percy Saturday, ran five on Sunday, ran this morning....nice relaxing bath last night too, so yeah, I am taking time for myself. Friday I worked on my card-making. Hubby and I were laughing, I make pretty stuff but never do anything with it except throw it in a bin. Maybe that is not a great hobby for me?

I somehow missed the birthday wishes Gloria, thank you! Hopefully you are able to catch your breath at work this week.

Will Indian Summer finally leave TN??? I was in Charlotte for a long weekend and it was just as bad there. Didn't deter us ole codgers from enjoying ourselves, luckily as the sun goes down it becomes bearable. Although the house that hosted the first night BBQ had more than enough room inside it was nice to be outside. It was hubby's college reunion, their 55th...even after all these years, the guys are great buddies still and so are the wives. They decided at their 50th to start getting together every 2 or so years, this next one may be sooner. Us brides have decided we'll do our own if not.

Nothing else going on around here, don't forget to take time for yourselves.

Good Morning!

Kelly, what a beautiful picture! Thanks for sharing it with us!

We took the motorcycle out on Sunday (first time I have been on it since getting back from vacation in late July. Took state highways and county roads to get down to Helen, GA. It was a beautiful ride and the weather was fabulous! The town itself is quaint with all the buildings built in the German style. Main street is lined with small shops of every sort. Went into a clock shop that had beautiful German made clocks and nutcrackers. They also had the normal t-shirt shops, etc. Did find a couple of necklace/earring sets in one of the jewelry stores; one that I can wear with casual clothes - jeans, etc. The other is quite bulky looking, but very light weight, that has onyx stones in it. I thought that would be perfect for winter with a white sweater and a skirt or slacks. They were half price so how could I not get them?? It took us 3 1/2 hours to get there, so we where there for lunch. They were saying that it is busy until the end of the year. January thru March or April it is dead. They do have a Victory rally there in June or July, so lots of motorcycles. We had a great time and will go back and spend a couple of days there.

Hope you all had a good weekend! Gloria, don't forget to take some time for yourself!

I was thinking the same thing that you used to have to plan way ahead for Octoberfest in Helen, November would be really good too.

Gloria, I am amazed with your stamina through this transition.

For sure, today is a Chamber of Commerce day here. Last nights sunset over our 'hood was spectacular, neighbor caught this from her front porch.

There are so many other pictures around Donelson it would be hard to pick, but this is ours.

Well, everyone have a great weekend, don't forget to take time for yourselves.

Finally, beautiful weather! Simply gorgeous! Okay, I looked up Helen and I see it isn't very far from Dahlonega where we went in July - and probably not any further away since we would take a different route there. Might have to check that place out! That could be a great weekend getaway. Carol, can't wait to hear about it.

Working a billion hours, can't check into Spark too often right now but maybe in a couple of months things will settle down a bit!

Good Morning!

Kelly, that is Helen, GA that we will be visiting. Looking at our calendar it will probably be November before we can get over there. That is fine, because from the information I was reading, the place is really hopping during Octoberfest!

My week has really been messed up with having to start my weekly work on Tuesday rather than Monday, but here we are Friday already. We did make it to the gym and will go again today, got the laundry and grocery shopping done, found a couple of pairs of Sketchers (only tennis shoes that my feet really like) and have most of the housework done. Have to vacuum and clean the floors today.

They are calling for the rain to stop, cooler temperatures to move in and a beautiful weekend ahead. Hope you are all able to go out and enjoy it!

Looks like you had a great trip Carol. I had forgotten about Hopelands. Yes, plan on going to Helen, I only know about Helen GA, and from what I have heard you will probably want to make a return trip for longer. Who knows though, Helen SC is likely just as much fun.

Crazy wet weather all week, finally fallish temps today but I think I will miss the sunshine. Other than that, nothing interesting going on mid-state!

Have a great day!

Good Morning Everyone!

We had a fantastic weekend in Aiken, SC. Left Saturday morning and took the Interstate to Waynesville, NC. Got off there and took state highways the rest of the way down. Stopped by the “Looking Glass” falls on highway 276 to stretch our legs and walk down to the falls. We spent the afternoon visiting with our friends and playing dominoes. Sunday after church and lunch out, they took us on a tour of Aiken and we stopped at the Hopelands Gardens. What a fantastic place – lots of reflection pools, fountains, old oak and cedars trees, paths to wander to your hearts content and even a koi and turtle pond! We got back home around 2:30 yesterday afternoon. Good to go and good to come home.

They were telling us about a German town (Helen, SC) that we are going to go visit with them in October or November. It is about a 3 ½ hour drive for them and the same for us. We will go on a Friday and come back Saturday afternoon. Since he is a pastor, he needs to be in church on Sunday to give his sermon! For us, it really makes no difference when we go.
So, today it is getting Monday’s work done (laundry) and doing some vacuuming, etc. Also need to get to the gym today.

Gloria, how did your half marathon go? I so admire you for doing them!

Hope you all have a fantastic day!

I understand Carol, everytime I go to Knoxville I feel like I have gone through a time warp it has changed so much. We were thinking of moving back when hubby was sent back to Watts Barr, he decided to retire instead. Don't blame you for wanting to move. We bought 5 acres next to our daughter in Florida that I really should build on and become a snow bird. They are really in the boonies, it is like going back to the 50's.

Gloria, hope you are taking some serious down time today. She didn't say, so I will brag on her, after a work week overload she does a half marathon yesterday! Sadly, I forgot all about it and didn't go cheer her on.

It is so gloomy out, almost like mother nature dimmed the lights. Geez at 8a it looked like dawn.

Not much has changed at the Hermitage. Don't remember if I told you about the Highland Games they sponsor each September. It is quite an outing.

Did you head on over to Aiken, pretty area. When we lived in Augusta, I would go through ATL one way to K'ville then come back the northern way, loved that ride especially when I took some of the back roads . I understand that SoCarolina has had some serious flooding, we have water rescue teams in SC as well. Don't think I have seen much reported on their situation. With all that NC is dealing with I can understand why.

Well should get a move on, boy wonder is dropping off the grandpup to entertain me for a few days so everyone enjoy what is left of the day. Hope the sun is out (without the humidity) where you are!

Hello! Happy Friday Eve! Can't believe it is the closing in on the end of the week...I've been working so much and time has just flown by.

Carol, Pigeon Forge is nice but I don't blame you for getting further out. My hubby would love to be out like that. As for me, I have to be close to work - right now I am too far away!

We got hardly any rain, just some clouds, and it is hot hot hot. But I see cooler temps in our future!

I am working a million hours, trying to check in from time to time but it won't be as frequent for a while.

Good Morning!

Can’t believe it is Thursday already! I have been busy, or at least it seems as though I have been.

Kelly, I live outside of Pigeon Forge. When we moved from WI in 1992 we bought a house off the parkway going through Pigeon Forge. We were there about 5 years before traffic got so bad that you couldn’t get on the Parkway. That is when we decided to buy property (15 acres) and build a house in the country. We do have neighbors, but they are far enough away that we don’t hear them; and the closest one is a retired Navy guy that works in Japan (training sailors to maneuver ships) most of the year. A lot of people couldn’t survive with this much quiet, but we like it!

We visited the Hermitage years ago – should go back one of these days to see if there are any changes~

We had rain from Florence, but that was about it. Back into the heat and humidity. We were going to take the bike over to Aiken, SC to visit friends this weekend, but I’m not sure that will happen with rain in the forecast.

I’m going to bring up the fall decorations this morning and get everything changed over and put the summer stuff away. It is also gym day and of course Rocky will need to be walked. He is good at reminding us of that!

Have a good day!
Carol

Well, what you see in the picture is pretty much all there is to that sculpture. The Rotary Club really hasn't done anything with beyond what was done initially. An organization I belong to looked into sprucing it up but in talking to Metro, we opted out because of the obligations (too numerous to list and you can guess how many and how much when it comes to dealing with any city, haha) So it is understandable why they haven't done more; we may still do something as a one time project. The biggest tourist attraction in Hermitage is Andrew Jackson's homestead. They just did the Scottish Highland Games, they hold them every September.

Carol where do you live?

I hope that Florence does not decide to go back to her old self again, that is something everyone needs to keep in mind. I just worry about those who refuse to evacuate and live along the coastline. And those who are not prepared for the delays and mishaps along the way if they do evacuate. Hoping too that she loses steam and doesn't slam the Appalachians. It'll be interesting what if anything we will get from the outer bands. We got brief strong winds from Gordon.

Well I should mozie on, should make a grocery list and get some groceries, oh my the things on my should do list. Everyone have a great day!

Good Morning!

Thanks for the picture and tour of the east side of Nashville, Kelly. I watched the different speeches on TV yesterday. FOX always carries the footage from the day when the towers fell and it is so moving! Then I heard that “The View” was bashing the First Lady, again, and wondered how, on such a solemn day; they could be so mean spirited. You may, or may not, agree with how the President if handling things; but it doesn’t give a person the right to talk badly about his family!

Wish I could have been at the 9/11 Tribute – it sounded very moving! We will need to make a trip over to see the sculpture one of these days. It is only a 3 hour ride from here – or about that.

Today is grocery shopping and working in my flower beds. Hope to get them ready for fall. Was planning on doing it yesterday, but the rain kept me inside most of the day. Talked to a friend who lives near Hilton Head and told her that the guest bedroom was ready if she needs to evacuate. Praying that Hurricane Florence weakens before making landfall!

Have a good day!

Started the day at a moving September 11 Tribute held at the Hermitage Park at the Library, hosted by the Exchange Club of Donelson-Hermitage.

The Donelson Christian Academy Choir sang a beautiful song that I am amazed it is not on everyone's radar, I do not remember ever hearing it. "There She Stands" by Michael W. Smith. It is on youtube, the pictures on one video are beyond words, another has the lyrics.

The artist of this "sculpture" was one of the speakers. This project began on the date of the attacks it is called Clear for Landing but he calls it his tribute to the twin towers. The two pieces are wings from two Cessna aircraft.

Another speaker was a Retired Army General who was in the Pentagon at the time of their attack.

Thought I would take you all on a little tour of the far east side of Nashville.

The only advice I have for you Gloria, is to take it one day at at time. I'm sure in the end, it will all be worth it; even though right now it kind of sucks!

Did my grocery shopping yesterday, took Rocky for his walk and watched the hearings for the Supreme Court judge. What a fiasco! Oh, I also cleaned rearranged and my closets. Today I want to get at my dresser drawers and begin going through my jewelry - purging what I don't wear and getting it ready to take to "A Hand Up For Women" which is an organization that helps women get back on their feet by giving them the tools they need to get a good paying job (education, job interviewing skill training and once they graduate; clothes and jewelry to go on interviews). I had taken a huge box of my sisters jewelry there after she passed away and figured I might as well do mine now rather than letting our daughter do it later!

Hope you have a wonderful day - hot and humid here today again!

They told me yesterday my replacement can't start until November...I was expecting it to be October, so that means it will be at least one extra month of two jobs. They will do what they can to help so I am not so overwhelmed. I have so much going on myself that I can't imagine it but it will all work out in the end.

We had a quiet weekend. Did get out yesterday morning to run some errands. Traffic was crazy so did what we had to do and then came home and spent the rest of the day puttering around. It's hard to believe that Sept is here already...the year is passing by much too quickly.

Wow, working 2 jobs is going to be hard. Hope it doesn't last too long and that it will all be worth it for you.

Today I'm going to start cleaning closets, purging and getting rid of what I haven't worn, along with storing the pieces I want to keep. I've made myself a list of everything I want to get accomplished. If I don't do that, I tend to forget half of what I wanted to do, or spin my wheels going for one task to another and really getting nothing done!

Hope you have a super day!

Carol, glad you are feeling better, a few people I know have had the summer colds and honestly, some of them have been so sick that I wonder if it is flu instead of a cold. Today I am back from the vacation that was anything but a vacation, and working two jobs for the foreseeable future, we will see how this goes but I am anticipating stress and long hours and have already made the mindset that I am going to accept and deal with it and keep the best attitude that I can. Even though I was on vacation and it was the weekend/holiday, I worked Saturday, Sunday and Monday to try to get a bit ahead.

Happy Sunday!

I'm not sure if we have black bears or brown bears. I want to say that the Smokey's have black bears but not sure. I've not seen any in the Smokey's, or in our area - and I wouldn't be too disappointed if I never do.

I am finally beginning to feel better - this cold has lasted almost 2 weeks, so it is about time it just goes away. Hubby thinks I should have gone to the doctor, but unless it's really bad; I would rather have my system fight it off --- I HATE taking medicine unless absolutely necessary.

So, my week has been pretty quite - did our walks with Rocky and have gotten the housework done, but that is about it. I'm thinking tomorrow I should be able to go back to the gym without contaminating everyone with my coughing. Have missed going----doing a few exercises with the light weights I have here just isn't the same!

Hope you are feeling better and have some answers to the infection you have Gloria.

Today we are going to a Baptist church to see our grandson get baptized (for a second time). He joined the church were his wife goes; and her Dad is the pastor. Looking forward to seeing the difference between ours and theirs. They are having a luncheon afterwards that we will stay for and then a quiet afternoon at home.

Have a good day!
Carol

Bears!!!!! I assume brown bears? They aren't as aggressive but still!!! I am not afraid of snakes but bears I would be a wary of. I had never seen a bear until we went to Dahlonega last month. And I ended up seeing two just that weekend.

Still no answers on UTI, went back to doctor Thursday for some more tests. Not a UTI I guess though that is what I had been led to believe. Feel terrible today but had to come in to office. It's rainy today.

Hope your cold gets better soon Carol - the summer colds really take it out of you, I guess since we aren't expecting it this time of year, I don't know!

Good Morning!

I’ve been fighting a cold all week, so have been doing a lot of resting. I have gotten out for my walks with Rocky, but that might come to an end. Our neighbor and son said they have seen evidence that bears are in the area! It’s bad enough watching out for snakes, but bears??!! They said I really need to watch when I leave Rocky out early in the morning and late at night as that’s when they would be moving. I don’t think I will be walking by myself anymore that’s for sure!

Gloria, I hope your company comes up with a plan to have the 5k/1 mile walk that doesn’t interfere with the busiest part of the day, but still give everyone a chance to enjoy the time away.

Hope you are feeling better – those UTI’s can be such a pain!

Have a wonderful Monday!

On Monday we had our annual 5k/1 mile walk at the office, just LOVE doing that but logistical it is hard since they shut down a main artery during rush hour. I hope they don't quit doing it but I am not sure if they will be able to continue - we've been doing it for several years, I can't remember how many - maybe five or seven.

I've got something, maybe a UTI, went to the doctor Monday but still not sure. Generally I feel okay!

Got my oil changed and tires rotated yesterday - slowly but surely getting stuff done, but kind of working two jobs for a while so work is a bit on the crazy side.

Good Morning!

Hope you had a nice weekend. Our Sunday was church and lunch out. Then a quiet afternoon walk with Rocky. Yesterday was laundry, hair and pedi appointment and pulling weeds out of the flower beds; baked chocolate chip cookies; and a walk with Rocky! He got muddy paws on the quilt on our bed so I had to wash those as well as the sheets! Today I get to have lunch with friend and later go to the gym.

Not sure what is going on with hubby's spine. Will find out more when the MRI is done and we meet with the doctor. He had an appointment with his heart doctor (the one that did surgery for his A-Fib) and he said is doing good - the few little blips that he had when on vacation was probably muscle spasms, and he wasn't going to put him on any medication for that. So, that was good news.

Have a good day - don't rush too quickly; enjoy the day!

39 degrees!!!!! Oh Carol, yes, that is a bit too cool! For me, I handle the heat and humidity better than I do the cold wet stuff. But this morning it is VERY warm - already around 80 in Nashville when I got up at 3:30 am. Went to boot camp this morning. I am feeling a lot stronger lately. With my health stuff and time constraints, it really takes me a long time to build strength and for the longest time I just didn't feel like I was making progress. I am hoping my body is settling down for a while so I can feel better!

Carol, is that spinal stenosis? That has to be unsettling for you both. Praying for the best!

Well, try to stay cool and have a great day - it's supposed to storm here but I am hoping to get out and run five miles later - five miles on the greenway would be a lot nicer than five miles on the treadmill.

Good Morning!

Starting out warm already this morning, but I guess we have another month before we see cooler temps. It really seemed nice to have cooler temps and lower humidity while on vacation. Although, the rain and 39 degrees was a bit too cool!

Hubby went to a spine doctor yesterday. He thinks the tingling and numbness in his legs, and the neuropathy in his feet may be due to some narrowing in his lower spine; which is pinching some nerves and causing all his problems. He scheduled an MRI for later this month. Once we get the results we will know better what comes next....and I am not going to get ahead of myself.

Today is gym and grocery shopping - and Rocky will need at least one walk I'm sure; probably two.

Have a GREAT day!
Carol

Happy anniversary Carol!!!

My mom is doing better, thank you for asking! She is at home and she is not getting around as well as I had hoped. I am going to see them later this month. Sunday when I talked to her she seemed like she was doing very well but some days when I talk to her I am thinking ????? basically because she seems okay but I know her well enough to know something is off. I am wondering if maybe she is not getting enough sleep or poor nutrition.

I haven't heard from Cindy. emoticon I sure do miss her sunny outlook on life. I am sure that she is busy supporting her family and still taking it day by day.

I opted to sleep in a little - was at the office about 12.5 hours yesterday with no lunch break and add my long commute both ways to that, it was a long day and I was tired. So I didn't exercise this morning - could end up being a rest day - you know I try to do one or two of those a week, but I am still not sure, I might try to run this evening depending on how I feel. My arms are kind of sore from yesterday's bootcamp class!

Good Morning!

Didn't do much over the weekend - church and lunch out yesterday (it was our anniversary and since our vacation was our present to each other that worked!)

Today is my normal laundry day. DH has PT this morning (for his hip) and then we are going to go to COSTCO for some much needed re-supplying of staple items! Rocky and I will go for our walk a bit later as well. Gym tomorrow.

Gloria, how is your Mom doing? Hope much better than a few months ago! Have you heard anything from Cindy? I'm sure they are still coming to terms and trying to find a new normal.

Nashville traffic is bad most of the time. I've left the office at 1:00 a few times and been stuck in traffic. I currently leave the house at about 5:45 a.m. so I can get here at 6:30 a.m. and still there are spots where it is a complete mess and a total standstill, even that early - but it would be so much work if I left later so that is what I do! I work through my lunch so I can leave by 3:00 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. (because I work a lot of OT to get my work done) and each and every day it is a mad house. It takes me at least an hour to get home if traffic isn't "bad". If it's bad it could be an hour and a half. I hope they let us work from home more often.

I had a great weekend, ran Saturday, ran yesterday, lounged in the pool Saturday. I am so busy at work that I ended up working yesterday but I still go the groceries done, lots of laundry done, talked to my mom while I dusted. It felt like a good productive weekend.

Boot camp this morning. Some days that class seems soooo hard but today it felt really good.

Sorry to hear about the traffic Gloria. I used to go in early to beat the rush hour and then was able to leave early to get home before everyone was trying to get out of town. The bigger paycheck sometimes is not worth all the stress you have to put up with. I hope it all works out for you.

Getting back into the swing of things after our long vacation. Rocky got me back into our walks. He insists on going even in the rain; which is fine as long as it is not lightening out. Gym was hard after the time off but it WILL get better.

Wishing everyone a wonderful, relaxing werkend!

I know, we never started school until after Labor Day either. But we didn't get out until mid-June, so there is that since they get out here in May. When I was a kid I LOVED the summer days and long evenings, wish I didn't have to work so much because I would love to enjoy those long lazy days again! I forgot to mention I think that I am starting a new position at the office, it is actually a voluntary downgrade, I decided to do it because I need less stress in my life (so it is really a quality of life change) but the transition to the new job will be rough and take a few months and I will be working A LOT during that time. Once that is all settled (maybe by the end of the year), I just need to figure out a way to deal with this horrendous traffic. I can only work from home two days a month but I am hoping they will increase that to once a week - that would make a world of difference.

Carol, I think a rowing machine sounds awesome, great workout! I've used the one at the gym a couple of times and I really liked it, I should do that more often!

Good Morning!

It seems crazy that school is starting already.....we never went back until after Labor Day! Guess they figure kids lose too much knowledge during the summer and feel it better to have school year around - not sure I agree with that. I used to love the summer months!

It rained all day yesterday with more on the way today. That is fine as I have enough inside to keep me busy. I have the treadmill and bike that I can use on rainy days. Looking into getting a rowing machine as well.

Today is dental appointments, and I'm not sure what else. Will get in some form of exercise and watch my food intake (didn't do too well with that during vacation); making sure I get my water in.

Have a Super good day!

Hello! Hard to believe the week is almost half over already! Traffic was crazy here today, school starts back for a few kids and then Monday most of the rest go back so it's going to get even busier out there on the roads. Busy week starts here at the office today - but I am going to try to manage it well in the hope that I don't have to work too much OT. Honestly, the next few months are going to be crazy as I transition to my new role.

Light rain this morning. Went to boot camp and it had stopped raining so we did our warm-up outside. I have NO plans for this weekend - if I don't have to work, I will be chilling by the pool or working on things inside the house!

Good Morning!

Still trying to get back into the swing of things - it is going to take a while with being gone so long! I am enjoying our bed and being able to have a nice cup of coffee in the morning without thinking about having to get on the road~

I was able to get the front flower beds weeded yesterday. Only had a light rain (barely enough to wet the walkway). Also went with hubby to pick up the mail and then to the US Cellular store to get an android phone for him. He finally decided it was time to get rid of his flip phone; mostly because he wanted the Harley app on his phone! Today will be the garden and beds out back; along with getting back to the gym~

Gloria, your weekend get away sounded lovely. Will need to check out Dohlonega - not sure if we have traveled through the area or not.

Hope all is well with everyone!

Carol, welcome back! Wow, that sounds like an amazing trip, that is quite some distance in just 24 days! It was definitely hot here, as usual!

We went to Dahlonega, Georgia for a long weekend. Beautiful place, saw a couple of bears, went out and did a short hike on the Appalachian Trail. Visited an old gold mine and went and checked out a nice state park. We stayed at a wonderful B&B, it was so relaxing and peaceful there!

We are expected to have some rain here today too...I didn't get up early today, got home too late and was way too tired, so now I have to figure out how to get in my four miles...it will happen but I might have to resort to the treadmill. I will run in the rain, but not if there is lightning.

Good Morning!

Back from a 24 day motorcycle trip to Yellowknife in the Northwest Territory of Canada...8108 miles (yup, all on the back of the bike). Yellowknife is 200 miles from the Arctic circle and the end of paved roads (the ice roads begin in Yellowknife. Had a fantastic time - it was rainy and cold up there, but as I understand you all had a lot of heat down here. Luckily, by the time we got back to the states it had cooled off some. Our kids got to go with us, on their motorcycles, and found out that their folks were just as tough and determined as ever! Was very happy to get home, sleep in our own bed and get up to our own coffee!

Now, to get back on track with weight (gained a couple of pounds) and back to the gym! My flower beds need weeding, as does my garden. With rain expected today; that may have to wait until another day~

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the summer!

Getting back on track. The secret is to never give up. Sometimes things happen and it causes you to not put your health ahead of everything else. Never a good idea.

Hello!

I decided to try Weight Watchers for a while. I'm a lifetime member and well within goal weight but I keep seeing pounds sneak up and I thought it might help me keep on track. So yesterday was day one and I ate all of my calories, ate all of my exercise points and ate five of my weekly points. Oh my. Obviously I am eating too much, haha. Well, I don't know, my weight does tend to go up and down a lot and while it has been on the upward trend, it is now going down a little but still, I am sure I need to make better choices.

I'm a bit under the weather today but I got up and did the treadmill, only two miles because I am so dizzy and lightheaded that I didn't think I could handle more - actually had to hold on to the rails. Probably shouldn't have driven to work but my only other choice was to wait for DH who would probably be very very late (he is kind of on his own schedule). I might have stayed home but I have too much work to do.

Yes, the humidity is oppressive!

Carol, I hope the orthopedic doctor can help your husband find some relief.

Good Morning!

Gloria, that health challenge sounds like a a fun activity. Wish we would have had something like that where I worked. They did pay for part of your gym fees, but did not pay for Weight Watchers, or any type of weight loss program; which I thought they should have done. One of our friends had something similar to what you are doing at her work. She really enjoyed it and got in great shape!

Kind of quiet around here. Trying to get everything done in and around the house before we leave on vacation next week. We will be gone for a month, so I want to make sure all the bills are paid for the month, the house all cleaned and ready our grandson & his wife to stay. Will make sure there is food in the cupboards for them. Did some work in the flower beds and garden yesterday.

We are back at the gym and taking our daily walks with Rocky. Heat and humidity gets to hubby so the walks have been getting shorter. He has an appointment with a spine specialist when we get back from vacation. The orthopedic doctor he saw last week is thinking the numbness in his legs is coming from his spine; that there might be something pinched. We shall see!

Hope you are have a good week so far!

Hello! Sounds like you've been super busy Carol. I've been hanging in there, getting up at 3:30 every morning so I can either run or go to the gym for the boot camp. This morning I actually "slept" in and didn't go anywhere. I should still try to get a run in, or maybe today will be a rest day, I don't know. I'd rather tomorrow be my rest day but I am ready for one.

We are doing a health challenge at work, that has been kind of fun. It's with teams and my team has 10 people on it and each day we have a different health activity to do - it could be diet related, fitness related or emotional well being - so things like no social media for a day or eating 50% veggies one day, or getting in a certain number of steps every day. There are prizes each week for those who complete the challenges for each day.

So it's the first day of summer! I wanted to take today off but since the weather isn't great I decided to just work as usual.

Good Morning!

I've had a busy week - or at least it seems that way. We got back from our friends ordination and installation as Pastor in his new church in Aiken SC on Monday. Hint: if you go in that direction my advice would be to stay away from I-26 around Columbia. We took it when we went down on Saturday and we had 52 miles of going either 0 mph or 60 mph in bumper to bumper traffic! The funny thing was that there was no constructions or accidents in those 52 miles. I guess that stretch is always that busy!

So Tuesday I did my Monday's work; along with what I normally do on Tuesdays! Yesterday I had lunch with a friend and did our grocery shopping. Around 8 we noticed we had 6 cows munching on our front yard. There was no answer when we called the owner, so we herded them back to his property. Couldn't find where they got out. The guy finally called and we told him where we had left them. I haven't herded cows since we moved off the farm when I was 15, so it was a real treat for me....and I did get my exercise in!

The kids had a wonderful honeymoon. They got back on Saturday - they said this will not be their last cruise! Xdil was texting them as soon as they got off the ship, but GS didn't answer her. They will have to put their foot down if they don't want her butting into their business -- and our GS won't have a problem doing it!

Hope you have a good day - mine is going to be cleaning and working outside I'm thinking!

Oh Carol, the xdil sounds like a spoiled brat! So sorry that happened. Glad that gs stuck to the plan. Sounds like you had a nice weekend visiting with your daughter and her kids, how nice!

My weekend consisted of going to run at one of the big city parks with my friend on Saturday morning. Then Saturday night two friends and I went to a free concert by the Nashville Symphony that was playing at a historic home about half a mile from my house - we packed our fruit and cheese and walked over there. Hubby and I did a lot around the house over the weekend. Last night was my Stampin' Up group and I had dinner with my friend before that and this morning I should have got up to run but I didn't. I did bootcamp yesterday morning and was feeling tired this morning so when Lemur jumped on the bed at 3:30 a.m. I decided cat cuddles ruled the morning!!!

Good Morning!

The wedding is over! It was a beautiful wedding; even though it was HOT! There was no shade trees, but there was a slight breeze. Was upset with our Xdil. Friday night at rehearsal she asked the wedding director if her boyfriend could sit in the front row with her. The director said no, that was for immediate family, but he was welcome to sit in the second row. She left it go on Friday night, but caught our GS Saturday morning and told him she really wanted her boyfriend to sit next to her. He said "NO". So they proceeded to get into an argument with our GS finally telling her that if she, or her boyfriend didn't like it, they could stay home! Well, she called a friend of theirs boo-hooing about the whole thing; the friend called our GS and told him he was breaking his momma's heart because he was being unreasonable. He told her the front row was reserved for family, AND HE WAS NOT family! Then our GS called our son all upset over the whole thing. Our son told him to stick to his guns, this was his day; not hers, and to just let it go and enjoy the wedding. Well, the boyfriend did sit in the second row - not sure if any more words were said in anger. It upset me because she had no right to even suggest that! BUT, she is used to getting her own way however and whatever she needs to say, or do! The newlyweds are on a cruise to the Bahamas!

We also had a nice visit with our daughter and her children. They left yesterday and arrived back in WI around 5:45 last night. They were glad to be home after being on the road all day. I did laundry, took two walks with Rocky and relaxed!

Not sure what today will bring. I heard we should have some rain - of course it was suppose to rain yesterday but we didn't get any. Good thing I decided to water my garden and flowers!

Enjoy your day!

Good morning and happy Friday! Enjoy the wedding Carol and most of all, enjoy the family time! Sounds like it is going to be beautiful weather, albeit hot! Congrats on the 2.4! That is awesome!

I am pretty tired this week, probably from the very long work hours - I was here late most days and I never take a lunch break anymore - one day I worked 13 hours straight and that was the day I got up at 3:30 am and went to Boot Camp so I think it has caught up with me and I didn't get up and work out this morning. I am trying to be okay with that but I really wish I had done SOMETHING!

I've got no big plans for the weekend, will probably run with my friend early tomorrow morning, otherwise, nothing is set in stone. I might leave work early today but I don't have any special plans.

Good Morning!

Just poppin' in to say "HI". This is going to be a busy weekend. DD arrived last night around 6:30 with her two children. Today we will do a little shopping - have to be home, changed and at the wedding rehearsal by 5:30 PM. Tomorrow our grandson gets married at 5:00 PM, so looking forward to that - along with spending time with our DD. Weather is suppose to be warmer and more humid, but only a 20% chance of rain.

With everything going on, I WILL try to stay on a relatively good eating and exercising plan! I lost 2.4 lbs this past week and don't want to gain it back!

Hope all are doing well! Talk to you later~

Good morning and happy Monday! Beautiful here too, best weather - kind of spring like for once! I ran outside at 5 a.m. and it was wonderful - must take advantage of this kind of weather because it won't stay long in June!

Had a decent weekend but didn't get much accomplished, which is not good. I ran with my friend on Saturday morning at one of the big parks - very hilly and it was hot and humid but I loved it. Then had some pool time on Saturday. I usually float around and read in the pool - right now reading "Hawaii" by James Michener - I've read it before but for some reason I decided I wanted to re-read it. It's long. Saturday night we went out to dinner with a friend. Yesterday was a rest day but we went for a walk in the park (a small park close to home) so hubby could feed the squirrels - humid yesterday too - but this morning GLORIOUS! I actually was able to open windows last night because the humidity had dropped.

Went to Whole Foods on Saturday too - this is something I don't do often but since I ran in Nashville and it was fairly close, I decided to take advantage of that and stopped in there for a few things that I can't get elsewhere.

Good Morning!

Yesterday was church, lunch out and then to Penny's to find DH a shirt and tie for the wedding on Saturday. He didn't think he needed anything new, but I said for this grandson's wedding he "deserved" a new shirt! The color I wanted only came in long sleeves, so I am going to make it into a short sleeved shirt. I really didn't think he would want long sleeves under his suit coat since it is an outdoor wedding and temps are going to beat or near 90!

Today is going to be a beautiful day in East TN! I will be hanging out a lot of my laundry today as I need to take advantage of these kinds of days. Want to get out in my garden and get the weeds pulled as well!

Hope you all have a super good day!

Carol, I have thought the same thing about AC - I actually try not to use it too much - I mean I do use it in the house but I keep it on 78 and I don't use it in my car unless I have others in the car with me. Honestly, I would use it less at home but my dear southern husband would probably melt! But I think back before AC existed or became the norm people just sat quietly on their front porches in the evenings and during the day tried to keep the house dark and ventilated the best they could. Our master bedroom doesn't have a good heating/cooling situation so right now it's too hot in there.

Rain yesterday, more rain today, yikes, rain in the forecast! And YES, it is soooo hot and humid!

I did the treadmill this morning. At some point I need to get myself back outside but it is so easy and convenient to do that at 4 am!

I've kind of been organizing around the house too, cabinets, whatever, getting rid of old stuff, finding good homes for things I want to keep so they aren't out laying around.

Good Morning!

Not much going on today. I decided it was time to clean some of my cupboards again - getting rid of the junk food that I don't need, or want! It will be another HOT and HUMID day, so it will be good to have things in the house to do. I will get out for a couple of walks - one early this morning and one towards evening. We still have rain in the forecast.....but I don't think I will melt if I get wet!

Gloria, glad to hear you had a nice weekend, in spite of the rain! Good job at getting to your boot camp! I wonder what people did down here before air conditioning....this humidity tends to zap me!

Have a good day~

Carol, I love the farmer's market too! I love being able to get fresh produce especially if it is locally grown.

Our weekend was relatively quiet too. I ran with my friends on Saturday afternoon and then went in the pool but it started to rain pretty quickly. Then Sunday hubby and I went for a walk in the morning, then I stayed in the pool for a while. Monday I did a 15k and then I would have done the pool but I was feeling dizzy and unwell so I took a nap. It was a nice quiet weekend, didn't do a lot but it was relaxing.

This morning I went to the boot camp - it had been a while since I had gone and I am really so happy I did it, feeling so great after that! I need to work that back in to my routine.

Very tropical here this morning - dark, gloomy, very warm and humid, breezy and blustery and RAIN!

Good Morning!

Hope everyone had a good Memorial Day weekend! Ours was sort of quiet. Had friends spend the night Sunday - met them at church, went to lunch afterwards and then came home. Spent the afternoon and evening visiting. Made a nice breakfast for them before they left around 11 AM on Monday. Then I had laundry to do; and really just rested the remainder of the day.

Yesterday was WW (didn't do real well), came home, Rocky and I went for a long walk (got sprinkled on coming back) and did a little housework in the afternoon.

Today is grocery shopping. The farmers markets are starting to open around here; which I love to go to! Not sure what the rest of the day will bring, but will keep myself busy!

Took me two hours to get home from continuing education yesterday. Traffic has just been awful this week, mornings too. Makes me cranky, haha!

My hubby has a doctor's appointment today and then I think we will be able to go to lunch - if not they have grain bowls in the cafeteria here at the office, that would be very tasty. I did do my run this morning but I am still very sore from the sculpt class I took on Monday - I probably need to do tomorrow as my rest day instead of Friday.

Good Morning!

Wow, Wednesday already....what happened to the first part of the week?

Glad you had a good time in Louisville Gloria. We've been through there many times on our way to WI, but really haven't "visited" there. Sometime this summer, or fall, we want to go to Noah's Ark; which is near Cincinnati. We've heard good things from people who have been there. It will probably be after our big motorcycle trip in July.

Heard Rolling Thunder was going to be coming through Knoxville yesterday, on their way to Washington, DC. Didn't see them, but did see a lot of motorcycles out yesterday.

I've gotten in my walks, between the rain showers. Yesterday afternoon coming back we got sprinkled on, but it felt good! Today is grocery shopping

Have a good day!

Happy Monday! It's my favorite day of the week. I can already tell this week is going to be very very busy.

We ended up going to Louisville for the weekend. We had decided on Georgia but then the weather looked kind of iffy - considered Gatlinburg, but again, not sure about the weather, so we headed north and we had a nice time. Went to a goat place that primarily makes and sells products made out of goat milk - had a fun time playing with baby goats! Went to a very interesting state park in southern Indiana - kind of educational and did a short hike there. It was just a nice time. We ate a lot of bad food, went to Meijer and Cabelas to shop and I found some wonderful clearance items - didn't expect to come home with a lot but did get some stuff!

Today is my Stampin' Up club and so I did my run early this morning - almost to my step goal already! I brought workout clothes with me - might strength train at lunch time - these days I usually work through my lunch.

Good Morning!

Gloria, I remember having to do those continuing ed courses for insurance. Boring, but necessary for sure!

Saturday I had our grandsons future in-laws over for dinner. Grandson and his fiancée were here as well. Had a really nice time. Yesterday was church, and lunch out. Not much else going on. Today is laundry and I have to get out in my garden and do some weeding; if it doesn't rain!

Have a good day!

So sorry about your back Carol! About 11 years ago I pulled a muscle putting the cat in the car to go to the vet. So I can somewhat relate to your pain - glad it is feeling better! I actually want to go to the chiro but can't seem to find a time to go - her schedule and mine are not coinciding and she is close to home, not work, so it's about 40 minutes from work and I can't just up and go and then drive all the way back here.

I did run last night - I was expecting it to be awful with the heat (low 80s) and the extreme humidity but it was really awesome! I surprised myself - pleasantly!

I had continuing professional education yesterday, more tomorrow - it is my year to renew my license and report to the state so I need to get on top of that.

Good Morning!

Got the grocery shopping done yesterday. Managed to twist my back while putting dog food in the bottom of the cart, so spent the afternoon with ice or heat on my back. Much, much better this morning; but will be careful not to bend or twist wrong today. We did get out after dinner for our walk. 73 degrees when we left, but the humidity was right up there! I think just that little exercise helped as well. Today I will do some stretches as well as the walking.

We are having company over Saturday, so today I need to get the house cleaning done. Tomorrow I have a hair and pedi appointment and I want to get the baking done for Saturday. Have to marinate the ribs that we plan on having and they need to sit in the refrigerator overnight. My hair appointment is smack in the middle of the day, so I will need to get a lot done before I leave - or after I get back!

Hope you have a nice day!
Carol

Good Morning! Yep, I did go out yesterday and I did two miles...very short for me but at 4 pm it was in the 90s with feels like temp of 97. I actually felt really good like I could do more but am trying to take it easy for now.

That area around Jasper and Dunlap is just beautiful. I thought we might go to Georgia this weekend for some hiking but with the rain coming in, I think we will postpone. Problem is that it is likely to just get hotter and hotter and I'd rather go when it is cooler - hubby isn't a fan of the heat.

Well, work is waiting, have a great day and stay cool!

Good Morning!

I am hoping the rain from FL will be moving up into East TN today; and that it cools things down a bit. I don't mind hot weather, but it coming on so soon is hard on the 'ole body!
Gloria, I admire you for running in the stifling heat! I guess if you don't get used to it slowly it could play havoc on your body when you ran in a race.

I got all the laundry caught up yesterday - of course there is more in the laundry room this morning!

Had a nice day Sunday. We took a ride to Dunlap, TN - to a small country cafe called "The Cookie Jar Cafe". It was a beautiful ride - took state and county roads most of the way. The cafe was a bit hard to find as it was out in the country, really off the beaten path!! My phone GPS told us to turn on one road, but the one we turned on didn't have the same name, so we thought we were on the wrong one. Turned out, they must have changed to road name! We did find it, had a nice lunch and although it was warm riding home, it ended up be a really nice day!

Not sure what today will - have a couple of errands to run, make out the menu's for this coming week and then work on my grocery shopping list.

Hope everyone has a good day!
