Day 5
My clothes are loosening again. thank you all for supporting me to get back on track. Not binging and having food free spaces between meals really makes a difference to how healthy I feel.

It was fun seeing Jolie. We had a nice, sane lunch while gabbing away and watching semi-insane people dressed in comic-con garb trudging by our outdoor table. She'll be back on our board when it's over. BTW, she emphasized what a great tool it's been to use the hour commitment thread. Even years in as she is, it still helps, especially in this food-rich culture.

I actually had that old urge to go get something else junky after lunch and even had the package of cookies in my hand in a store! I put them back, promising myself if I really still want something like that, I will return tomorrow. I instead bought more cherries, which are on special now. I keep buying more, but it's worth it to me. The season is short! I'll have some with a light dinner: going to a dance class at 7 and don't want to be too full.

I actually made it through Day 14 yesterday as Binge Free, but it was one of the hardest of the 14 days. I was a little nervous that now the days would all start getting more difficult instead of easier, but I have to say that so far today things are going well.

I also am happy to report a weight loss of 1.5 lbs this past week.

Thanks for the information on Slip-Ups OOLALA53, I may be doing well with Binge Free for now but I have slip-ups in other areas (daily calories, exercise) and to remember that Slips are a normal part of adjustment will definitely help along the way. emoticon

Just read this on a web page about changing eating habits:

"If you slip and donít reach your goal, donít give up. Getting close to your goal pushes your body to adapt, which can make it easier to reach your goal on your next try. SLIPS ARE A NORMAL PART OF ADJUSTMENT. (caps mine)"

Working on day 10. Jolie and I are having lunch together!

Feeling good - we had some tough conversations last night and are better for it. I did not react by using food. Today is still hot and dry. We are smokey from the forest fires.

It's nice not to have things trigger us, but even more important what we do when faced with one.

I don't why sometimes out of sight is out of mind and other times, not, for me! I have sometimes put sweets in the trunk of my car, or in a deep ceramic bowl on top of my fridge and forgotten about them.

From Monday through last night, I was at a dance camp that I attended with another woman I know from classes. It was last minute that she went with me. It sure helped me not binge when I got back to my room with her there! I probably wouldn't have, but it was a deterrent, just in case.

It's convenient that my streak coincides with the days of this month. Working on day 9.

That rubber band is really working for you Tawney3, keep up the good work. I made it yesterday to DAY 13 and I'm struggling a little today, but so far - so good. Went to my weigh-in today and lost 1.5 lbs this week, I am very happy about that.

Hope to be back here later today or tomorrow to report that I made it through DAY 14, that would be 2/3rds through the streak.

Day 3
I snapped my elastic band several times yesterday. It worked. I snapped out of my pre binge thoughts. I was getting ready for supper , opening the fridge and all of a sudden thought of grabbing tastes of this and that. One snap brought me back. I hope to have another good day today.

Day 12, really didn't think I'd make it. Started "looking for something to eat" before 3 pm and that was after a later lunch. Don't know how I did it but I DID, one more day under my belt.
I'm more than half way to the end of my first 21 day streak, if I keep remembering that I think it will continue to help. emoticon emoticon

Hi. I have the same problem. A friend calls it "the Last Supper Syndrome".

Using the rubber band is a great idea.

I know for me, once these thoughts start moving in my head it's hard to stop them.

Finished yesterday as Day 11 and it feels so good, but I'll tell you all, I'm kinda waiting for the other shoe to drop. I know the wicked binge is not gone for good and I hope I am prepared when it pops up. But, until then I will forge ahead and try to make this Day 12.

Day 1
I have had several Day 1's lately. I have had it in my head that I will treat myself but then I go overboard and then return to my ancient thinking pattern. My old pattern was I will binge today and then become perfect for ever. I have not indulged in that thinking for a very long time. I put a blue elastic band on my wrist. Whenever I start to think archaic thoughts that get me into bad eating patterns I intend to snap the elastic band. I hope to bury those thoughts again. I feel so much better and also seem to have more time and energy when I am free of that thinking.
Gentle thoughts to all of you.

Day 3 streak three

Had a dark chocolate candy bar yesterday and was just going to eat only one bite, ate the whole thing but did not say what the heck and have a big binge, just said okay I had a candy bar, big deal I enjoyed every bite and will not want one for awhile. Really it cost too much $3.50 not in my budget.

Peg, you show a lot of wisdom. It is much easier to cut back on the amounts we eat regularly AFTER we establish a reasonable record of not bingeing.

I went way over my calories at dinner but I have not had a binge in 10 days. I need to work on one thing at a time and right now the one thing that was killing my weight loss was the "binge". I will continue to try and do better with my calories, and continue going to the gym, but "binge" is my pet project at least till I get to day 21.

Being nice to yourself if you make mistakes is probably going to pay off the most!

Welcome to the thread, which has been ongoing for years. I will tell you that it often takes several tries to get to 21 days, but the increasing ratio of BF days to non=BF days is really valuable, too. Never believe that a slip up means permanent failure. Or that a streak means the new habit is permanent...

Just get through today for now!

I'm gonna give this a go, and do my best. I have to admit that I feel scared and hesitant. But I am also tired of the cycle - so I hope this will help break it! I posted a sticky note on my bathroom mirror just stating "Positive Affirmations!!" It reminds me to say good things when I look in the mirror - even if my mind tries to throw out negatives, I am not allowed to hear them when I see that sticky note, and must instead say at least a few positives.

I am strong.
I am trying.
I am not giving up.
I can do this, especially if I have help and support.

I also posted my goals on a whiteboard in my bedroom, with the final goal stating "I will be nice to myself even if I make mistakes."

These are my mantras this month.

Here's to day 1, which would take my 21st day to July 28th - and then beyond!

Going overboard because of one small infraction is called, by researchers, the What-the-Hell effect. It is TYPICAL for not only dieters, but for people trying to change many habits. It doesn't seem logical, but it is more common than not. The urge to give in because of any reason may never completely go away. It just may become less significant/ easier to ignore.

In my other non-Spark group, we say if you dented the car fender, you wouldn't go crash the car into a wall. Short cut to " I crashed/didn't crash the car." We all know what it means.

Well, I'm bombing out on the potluck I was going to go to. No big deal. I actually have other things I want to do as well, and a friend nearby has a deck that is great for viewing fireworks if I change my mind later, IF there is no cloud cover, which there may be. I'm going to relish having the freedom NOT to be hold myself to the cultural paradigm!

Whoa Kathryn that was quite a meet cute.

Yeah Oola on the bright side, I guess, is that I've come to a point of being able to identify a feeling of physical fullness (which I never used to feel, or at least was so into the binge that I didn't notice the fullness), and I sometimes I want to keep eating even when I know I'm full so I feel the need to implement the 3-bite countdown (or whatever particular "trick" it is). For me the problem with fairly innocent overeating is that I use it as a justification for a later binge, like, "Well I had X scoops of ice cream at that party so I might as well go home and order a large pizza and eat the whole thing by myself."

I read a good quote on a blog (can't remember where or I would give due credit) about how, if your car got a flat tire, you wouldn't walk around and poke holes in all the other tires, you would fix the flat and get back on the road. I have to try to remember that.

Anyway Day 6! Wishing you all a joyful day of Independence from the tyranny of BED!

Changing, that is a FANTASTIC story! I used to do massage for a living. I still think it should be part of marriage for partners to learn to do some good non-sexual massage moves, esp. on feet, hands, neck and shoulders.

But it also reminds me that even people who have happy relationships and conditions in life may still eat too much or binge.

I'm on a roll (better calm down, don't want to jinx myself). Finished yesterday as Day 8. The weekends are always a little difficult for me, can't let my guard down, I really want today to be Day 9. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Oolala it was a win for him because he loves rubbing my feet. The way he won my heart was rubbing my feet the first day we met. We were down in the lobby of the building I lived in and I was waiting for my boyfriend. It was summer and I had kicked off my sandals and slipped my feet on the chair next to him. He reached down and rubbed my feet as we talked. My boyfriend caught us and broke up with me that night. Hubby to be and I split a bottle of wine and the rest is history.
