I bet it was beautiful! My dog and I usually take a short hike on the weekend-lots of parks
around here!

YOBETHIE, I am so glad that you have recovered enough from your surgery to hike. It must have been beautiful. That type of exercise is great for the body, soul and spirit. God's creation is so amazing.

I also hate most exercise - especially the getting-on-the-treadmill kind. I don't mind water aerobics too much, more because of the company in the class than the actual activity. And I feel a lot better after doing it. The only exercise I enjoy is hiking, and it is hard to find the time to do it! I did get up to Shenandoah National Park this weekend and did a hike up to the Black Rock Overlook - my first hike since my back surgery. It was great! So beautiful that it was worth the effort.

Good for you! I actually like exercise! The problem Is mostly all I seem to do is work-I'm always
tired so now I mostly only manage it on the weekend...

Okay, so I will just come out and say it. I hate to exercise. I always have, even when I was a kid. I've never found it fun. I hate that sweaty feeling wondering if all the effort you put forth was worth it. But recently I read an article somewhere on Facebook that said if you are doing work out routines that you don't like, chances are you won't lose the weight you want to by doing them. The stress of knowing you "have to" get back on the tread mill or dread going to the gym, can release nasty little hormones like cortisol which cause us to gain or retain weight. I am not saying that this article is in fact true, however based on my personal experience, I feel it may be true for me. All of the traditional work outs were not working out for me.
Just recently though, I have discovered that I REALLY do enjoy Pilates. I actually look forward to it. I find it relaxing and pleasurable and the best part is when I am done, I actually feel good!
Another plus is that I feel the weight coming off a bit more easily now as well. Now I know that this could be due to a number of factors, but right now, I am just grateful for the changes in my attitude toward exercise and the results I am seeing.
If you are unhappy with a particular routine you are doing now, and your physician gives you the okay, perhaps you may find an exercise or routine that you really enjoy and look forward to doing as well.
I'd love to hear from anyone else who has found this to be true for them as well or about any other pointers that have helped you.
God bless!
