Happy Birthday, Raine!!! I hope it's a day that's as lovely as you are!

emoticon

Mana - The cabin retirement sounds just lovely. Sigh. I still haven't seen The Artist, but I hear it's wonderful. I'm excited about seeing that. Is your cabin in the Smokies?

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!!! Where arerrrrrrreeeeee you?

We have a sick piggy on our hands, so that kept me from getting much sleep. She's doing better this a.m., and it's back to the vet for her. I thought we were going to lose her last night. It's been a WEEK. Is it really only Wednesday? Yikes.

Hope everyone's having a great day!

Hugs and love,
Jen

Jen, our mountains are definitely not the Rockies, but I'll take them! We love it and can't wait to live there full time (when we retire in 5-6 years). You're more than welcome to come visit!!

I'm sorry the festival wasn't that great. I think it's a hit or miss type thing. James and I went to opening weekend of the Savannah Film Festival a couple of months ago. Got there Friday evening, but the first film wasn't until Saturday night - it was The Artist and was really good. There were a couple of obscure films the next morning, but we decided not to go. Instead, we had a leisurely brunch and then headed home. Although we had a great time in Savannah, the festival wasn't that special for us since most of the good ones were being shown during the following week.

I have an all day conference call today starting at 9 . . . . . yeah, I'm looking forward to that . . . . .

Oh, Mana, you make me so jealous with that cabin! River and mountains - heaven!

Claire - Criss Angel is amazing! That's so cool that you got to see him! It sounds like you have such a wonderful, close-knit family.

Holly - I hope you enjoyed your day off! Yahoo!

Raine - that's so sweet in terms of your husband and singing. How lovely!

Well, the festival was a bust. There was one or two good films, but the rest were just plain weird. Ah, well, it was an experience. Had my first day teaching today. It went really, really well. Holly - this will have you up in arms, lol, but I'm hearing arguments now from parents who don't want their children to read Harry Potter. Sigh. I'm trying to find out from them if they've actually read the books, or just went by what they "heard".

Okay... I'm off to do more cardio. Yay, me. ;-)

Hugs,
Jen

Hey, Claire,

I would LOVE to see Criss Angel!! And what fabulous seats you had!! Only been to Vegas once, but we were there for only a couple of days and didn't go to any of the shows.

Ummmmm - Arizona??? Nope, I'm in Georgia (transplanted from Louisiana, although we've lived in Texas as well). Our cabin is in the North GA mountains, right on the Tennessee border. It's less than 2 hours from our house and a little newer than your family's cabin (the original cabin was built in the 80s with the two additions in the 90s). We haven't had it long - we closed on the Friday before my knee surgery on Monday! It's sort of a compromise - I want to live in Colorado, but hubby can't take the dry air. This one is in the mountains and also right beside a river - best of both worlds!

Hey Divas! Yes, Mana, we saw Criss Angel. He's an illusionist and used to have a show called Mind Freak (don't know if it's still on). He did some amazing illusions and we were on the 2nd row so we got to see it all up close and personal! Still don't know how he did the stuff he did! Also, Mana, I thought you were in AZ (I could be waaaay off). Where is your cabin? We have a cabin (along with all my cousins) about an hour N of us. It was one that our grandfather built back in the 30's (I think). We don't spend a whole lot of time of there but it's always fun and relaxing when we go. Sometimes we'll have family parties or work days out there when we all get together. Basically one of my cousins acts as the reservation guy and keeps track of who wants it and sends out an email letting everyone else know when it's taken.

Back to work today! Gotta lotta paperwork to go through. Have a great Mon!

'Mornin', y'all!

Back from the cabin - we didn't get in until almost midnight. Hubby doesn't understand what leaving at a "reasonable time" means! There's so much to do up there and we only have the weekends. I'm not much help at all, but I do what I can.

Still waiting on FEMA about the flood insurance. We made all the necessary updates and got another elevation survey done, sent it all in, and FEMA's been sitting on it for almost two weeks now. They don't care that we're having to pay a much higher insurance rate while we're waiting on them. What's really annoying is that this is THEIR mistake - they okay'd the house as it was (without flood vents) prior to the closing and issued flood insurance. We didn't get the notice until four months after we had closed. I imagine some quality reviewer found the "error" (that's their job - to find mistakes, not to give "atta boys"). We're not so sure that what we had to have done was really necessary since none of the other cabins have flood vents. In fact, our neighbor didn't even know what they were (and neither did we prior to the notice!).

Holly, I'm so glad you had a chance to visit with your friend! And to get a box full of candles is such a bonus!! :) I love Friendly's, especially their ice cream. Thank goodness we don't have them down here! I've wanted a wood floor in my kitchen, but after all the problems hubby encountered installing a wood floor in the breakfast nook, I knew that was a lost cause! But our log cabin has wide plank floors and I love it! BTW, I had never heard that about Cascade! How do you use it - just add it to the washer like you would regular laundry detergent?

Jen, so glad the piggies are doing better! How was the festival? And that wurst bar sounds yummy! We don't have anything like that around here (not that I know of anyway). I would probably be really bad at a place like that!

Claire - glad you made it back safe and sound (and not too broke!). Did y'all make it to any shows?

Raine, I sure do envy your snowy day! Our temps have cooled off again - last night it was below freezing up at the cabin and right at 32 here when we got home. That is so neat that both of you are singing. I love the sing, but just don't have the guts to get up in front of people. Tried it in church a couple of times when I was a kid - not a pretty picture!!

Bean soup - we don't have bean soup in the South, but I'm thinking it's the same as when we cook a pot of beans. Dried beans cooked all day with lots of liquid - pinto beans or lima beans with ham, red beans with sausage (for us Cajuns!). Either type ladled over a bowl of rice, although pintos are especially yummy over cornbread.

Well, I'd better get back to work! Have a great Monday!!

Happy Sunday, everyone! What a beautiful Hallmark snowy day outside. About time we had a normal winter’s day. They are beautiful!

Mana – What a story about your mom – the birthday. The cold outside causing your knee pain….gotta love moms. Lol. What a mess with those rugs. You’re lucky it didn’t ruin your machines totally. It’s so hard to buy anything of quality anymore.

And on the mom front, Holly glad your mom is feeling better. And ahem…..hey missy, you will have to let me know the next time you plan on making home made navy been soup and ham and home made rolls. You immediately take me back to thinking about my mom. That used to be one of my favorite meals from her, hot soup warm rolls oh and before she baked the bread she would cut of some of the dough and fry dough gads for us all then we would dump powder sugar in a bag and shake them in it. Or put homemade jam on them……oh enough! I’m so homesick now….lol. Sounds like a great time with your friend! Yes, I need to get North. DH was just apologizing to me about our not getting north to see my family because of everything with his. Told him not to worry. Everyone understands.

Jen, so glad the little piggies are feeling better. It is so hard when a beloved pet gets sick. So many times I would like to get another cat or dog, but we are just not home enough and I hate when I lose them. Cried for 2 weeks when I lost my cat, Nickie, but I know part of that was it was during the time with my mom’s cancer. Re: music, yes I have. We didn’t buy this system to play formal gigs like this, it was because we are always running benefits and doing family things and always having to beg people to do the music, which we can do now. I was so proud of DH the other night. He never used to sing and if I walked in a room he would stop. I told him I would buy this system on one conidition he had to sing with me. The other night we sang a few songs together and this group of couples said “we love how the two of you sound together when you sing, I could listen to you all night.” So cool. Sounds like you had a blast with your friends too. Hope you had fun at the fesitival.

Welcome back Claire, glad you had a good time in Vegas. It is fun. Disney world for adults. You just have to pace yourself. Sorry the real world is waiting for you tomorrow, we tried to make a paradigm shift and change it, but it didn’t work – it’s still there for all of us. Lol

Thanks for the comments about the thyroid medicine. I’m just not sure I’m ready for the side effects of the medicine, but the only info I found about natural remedies were all tied to supplement sites and I don’t trust those because they are selling something. I need to do some more research and praying on it. I will say one thing. After reading the symptoms of hypothyroid, it cleared up a lot of things about why some things have been happening to me.

Making taco salads for tonight and DH has the karaoke going down there, my hint to get down there …. Lol. We do have fun with this thing.

Have a great week everybody!

Love
-Raine

Hi Divas!

Yes, Raine - I'm remiss - indeed go get 'em! Boo for them. BTW... have you thought about playing nursing homes/senior residences in the area? My mom's place has many musicians come in, and the advantage there is they tell all their KIDS about them and then the KIDS (ie. me and others) start looking them up to see gigs, etc., or contact them for fundraisers, etc.

Holly - glad you had a peaceful rest-of-the-day and fun with your friend! I love those types of candles, but Dave is allergic, so... not in the cards for us. When we met, we both lived right near Yankee Candle and could get all of those very, very inexpensively.

Piggies are BOTH much better this morning. Beamie seems to have acclimated to the new meds and is slowly, but surely moving more. Firelight's "diaper" area seems much more pink and less red, and she now comes willingly for her cleaning - she seems to understand that it's making her feel better. It's a huge relief. And Mana, one will be 7 years old in March and the other one 7 years in August, so they're both oldsters.

We had a great time with our friends last night - we went to this place called the Wurst Bar. It's all housemade sausages and unusual sides of sweet potato tots or regular ones, and salads, etc. They also had hard cider, so I could have a "beer". The food was all delicious and the sausages were actually low-fat (or the one I had was). They also have free foosball, pool, skiball, etc. We played some foosball and skiball and then we went to starbucks for coffee/tea.

Today I have a fair amount of reading for school, but it's all good reading, and then we go to the festival tonight. Mana, I hope you're having a great time up at the cabin! Holly, I hope you have another peaceful day ahead.

Love and hugs,
Jen

Mana so sorry about the rugs and washing machine. if you ever have the cant get it out problem try cascade dishwasher powder. yeah. when i was in nursing thats what we used on our uniforms..the head of housekeeping shared it and it takes EVERYHING out..blood, grease, vomit, mud..you name it it gets on you when you are a nurse, and cascade takes it out!!

Jan glad the piggies are better!! sounds like a fun day!!

Just got back from Plattsburgh. My college friend Connie always comes the last weekend of jan we usually get a room friday night and go out for dinner and breakfast. neither of us could afford the hotel so she came directly from her moms in Hudson, NY and we met at Friendlys for breakfast. She works for the company that makes all the candles you see in bath and body works and other large candle places and she always brings me a box full..my house smells so good right now with a new caramel apple candle!!! last year my favorite was a summer berry cream that didnt make the cut..it was a sample and i LOVED it..cant imagine why noone else did!!
OH!! and i picked up my new kitchen floor at Lowe's, its one of those wood floors..i detest the white linoleum in there and this is easy to install and clean. i love wood...my dream is to someday have a log cabin. this will have to do till then!!
OK off to find a craft to work on out of my stash..or maybe work on piecing my quilt. have a great day!!
Love you all!!

Hi Everyone,
Holly - I'm so glad your mom is much better! Yay! I feel horrible for your mechanic, though. I hope he proves the usual recovery wrong. The ice things that work are wonderful. My mom has a pair, but she can't really get them on or stablize on them, so she just doesn't go out when it's icy.
Mana, I'm glad things went relatively well with your mom yesterday. I'm so sorry to hear about the washer/rug incident. What a pain!
Raine - the thyroid is a tricky organ - it's probably best to go with your doctor on this one unless you don't trust her. I know there are some natural things, but they don't always work and their sourcing is somewhat suspicious, from what I've read. I hate meds., but this may be a time when going with the prescribed med is the best thing.
Many of us who have trouble losing weight have some type of thyroid issue, even if we don't "show up" that way - that's what my holistic doctor, nutritionist and the enzyme guy have all said. The difficulty is that treating the thyroid can be a tricky business, so you don't want to monkey with production unless it's CLEAR that you have a solution.
Thanks for the good wishes for the piggies. The one piggy had a diaper rash, basically, and other than needing to wash her privates twice a day for a week, she'll be fine. The other one is on a different med - strangely enough it's the same pain med. my mom was on last year after she broke her leg. This one won't monkey with her kidneys. She's still not in great shape, though. I'm not sure how much longer we'll be able to keep her with us.
Today is mostly chores, but tonight we're going out with friends. Tomorrow again, chores, but then we're off to an evening of shorts from the Sundance festival.
Have a great Saturday, everyone!

Hugs,
Jen

I was up ridiculously early this morning, and hubby just went to bed. Our washer stopped working last night, and he was up all night fixing it. I had bought four really cute rugs for the cabin and put them at each entrance - they were dark brown, tan and off white (the off white part were snowflakes). The contractors tracked mud and yuck all over them, so I brought them home to wash. Well, when I washed them, the off white became a muddy brown, so I washed them a couple of times more - no luck. Meanwhile, the darn things shed tons of fuzz in both the washer and the dryer - that's what stopped up the washer. I had been cleaning it out of the washer drum, but hubby ended up having to clean out the filter AND take the water pump apart!! Dang rugs are going in the trash!!!

Yesterday went pretty well with Mom. After lunch, I took her to Kroger, and she spent over an hour there - ugh. When we got back out to the car, I said, boy, my knees are killing me. She said, yeah, it's because of the cold air . . . . She is so oblivious - it was 55 degrees yesterday, so definitely not because of the cold!

Today is Mom's "second" birthday. Her real birthday is in November, but when she was born, her dad decided to change her birthday to January. Back then, when a Japanese baby was born, he/she was automatically one year old, then on New Year's, everybody turns a year older. Her dad decided that didn't make sense - she'd be two years old on New Year's, when in reality, she was only a month and a half old. Only problem is, when they filled out her birth certificate, they put 1925 instead of 1926, so she ended up amost an entire year OLDER!! We celebrate her birthday in November even though today is her "official" birthday.

Holly, I bought something similar to your Stableicers last year - they're called Yaxtrax. They just slip on over my boots or shoes and work wonderfully well. We had a bad ice problem last year after a big (for us!) snow - the sun would melt the snow just enough during the day to turn it to slush, and then it would refreeze overnight. We strapped on our Yaxtrax and didn't slip once!! I just bought more for us (to leave at the cabin) and a pair for Mom. They retail for $20, but I buy mine at Sierra Trading Post - they're $12.95 there. Add a 30% discount code (from retailmenot.com), and I only paid $9.06 for each pair!

Raine, although your gig sounded like a lot of fun, I hate that they shortchanged you! That is so not cool. Glad to hear that your lab results came back so good (yay!), and I agree with Holly about the hypothyroidism - if treated, you may be able to lose weight easier. Can't give you any advice on the med, though - I know nothing about it. I've always thought that hypothyroidism was my problem as well - like Holly, I have all the symptoms. However, test results show that I'm in the "normal" range - the low end of normal, but normal all the same.

Well, I'd better get moving. Have a great Saturday everyone!

Home and all the equipment unloaded. At the end of the night I sang some of my old songs...music is healing. ended up an ok night. The legion shorted us $50....we gave them a price and they keep jerking us around. It's simple they cough up tonight's 50 and they show what they are supposed to pay us to us before we set up next week or we don't play. Not a difficult concept. Time to go to bed.
night zzzz
sweet dreams you guys.

Thanks Holly, if I get a second I will give you a call. Not because of a hole, but its been too long since we've "chatted" love you girl! As for the thyroid med...just not sure....don't like the side effects and its life long...no turning back. Who said these were the golden years????? Whoever did needs to get their butt kicked. ):

Hi guys,

Jen – I was at a pet store to buy beta fish yesterday and saw some guinea pigs. My brother used to have them when we were kids. Cute little things and they are not dirty like some people think. So sorry about your little guy – yes, it sucks getting old!!!!!
When my chiropractor had me do the cleanse he had me use rice milk original – “NO FLAVORS” he said, with my protein mix. Throw a few berries or banana in and it was a good protein drink.

Holly – so glad your mom is doing better. I agree with you about the weather. There is a reason there is the cold and snow, including rebuilding water reservoirs, killing germs, and just the environmental cycle in general for our area. I hate, hate hate ice storms and flooding because it has nowhere to go with frozen ground….So sorry about your mechanic. Life changes in a minute. World’s up side down in a heart beat and yet we do not treasure every breath of life. Oh we have moments of appreciation, but I’m talking about every breath of life should be treasured. I have seen those boot things and I am so glad they worked for you. If the roads were that bad, I can understand your appointment not showing up….but not calling is inexcusable…I’m assuming the phones were working or were they out because of the storm too? Sorry you had to go over for nothing.

Mana – Hope your mom is feeling better and that you had a good time at lunch. And tell your husband the joints might be artificial, but only in the knees and not in the supporting ligaments and muscles supporting the knee area, which can also be affected with inflammation. I hear you on the soda, but all I can tell you is how much different I feel without the aspartame. I can’t stand a regular coke or Pepsi, too sweet, so if I have a real craving for soda (sorry water and pizza or popcorn doesn’t work – ok ok I know – give up the pizza and popcorn) anyway, lol, I’ll have a root beer, orange or sierra mist soda which although it has more sugar, no aspartame, gives me the soft drink craving I want and I just try to make up for the extra sugar in other ways.

OK, I'm trying. Trying not to pull the cover over my gopher hole. My doctor’s appointment was good. She unloaded her problems to me (LOL after she apologized saying she has never dumped on anyone like she did on me – problems at the office – she kept saying she couldn’t believe she had shared all of it with me. It happens to me all the time – apparently, I’m a good listener. But then she stayed with me after using my appointment to talk about her and she did a thorough job with me. She told me all of my labs were perfect…cholesterol, good and bad, sugar levels – everything even bp was 110/70, which I thought was low, but the nurse said it was perfect???? I thought 120/80 was perfect. I then shared with her everything that happened with the hands, knee feet , PT, etc and she decided we should check thyroid, magnesium, potassium and she would throw in an A1C since she was drawing blood. When I left she turned and said, you really do look a lot better, you really do.

After having such a good report this morning, the doctor’s office just called. I have hypothyroidism and she wants me to go on to lerothyroxin?. I've always heard to stay away from that stuff. So, I need to do some research. She also wants me on magnesium, which I don't have a problem with. Guess I have some research to do. Crappers. I was actually beginning to feel better. But, I will trust God and maybe this is just His wake up call to me and I will be able to find a healthier way to address it; although the nurse said there is no natural way except for drugs and that it is important to get on them immediately before the thyroid shuts down and causes other severe problems. I find it hard to believe there isn’t some natural way, but we will see. Sorry for spouting again. Have to get ready to DJ tonight. I have always been able to "get on stage" in my band days, no matter what. We'll see if I have any of that old skill left in me and can shake this gopher feeling. Would prefer to just go to bed and draw the covers over my head. Thanks for listening everybody.

Love you guys.

Seems good to be able to get back on the sight again.

Night!
PS: I wish you guys could all come party with us too!!!!

Mana if you EVER have to deal with ice i have a hint..and this is for everyone!

My mom got me something called Stableicers...they strap on your boots and have what look like screw heads on the bottom. you CANNOT wear them inside they would destroy floors. but let me tell you. i took my cane to go across to the bakery for my appointment that never showed up (grrrr) and i didnt slip..not ONCE...but the cane sure did!!!

I also have a pair of no name ones. which do NOT work. spend the extra to get the real thing...again called StableIcers. Seriously. well worth the cost..and they arent cheap..but neither is breaking bones and twisting knees and ankles and sore butts and fractured skulls..
seriously. they are fantastic!!

Happy Friday, y'all! I'm picking up my mom in a little bit to go have lunch. She wasn't feeling too good yesterday (has a cold), so we'll see how the day goes.

Holly, please be careful out there! I love snow, but not ice storms. We used to get them in Louisiana. It would knock out the power for days and no one could go anywhere because of all the ice on the roads. We had a Director who was from Wisconsin - refused to close the northern offices (he was in New Orleans, and I was in the north part of the state) stating that we shouldn't be afraid to drive in a little bit of cold weather. He had never experienced an ice storm before. It took me 2.5 hours to drive home, normally a 20 minute ride, and I had to cross two bridges on the way (one over a river and the other over a bayou). Ice storms are beautiful but can be deadly.

Jan, my daughter is a huge milk lover - she would go through a gallon in just a couple of days. I told her about milk allergies, and she thought for a second and said that since she stopped drinking milk (really causes acne havoc for her), her knees didn't hurt going down stairs anymore! She also said that her shoulder quit hurting as well. She hadn't thought about them not hurting until I mentioned it.

Know what my husband said when I told him? He said, well, they're not REAL joints - they're artificial!!! :)

Raine, yes, I'm a huge diet soda fan - sure would hate to give up my diet Dr. Peppers!! I'm going to try eliminating milk first - see if that does anything. If not, I guess I'll give up my sodas . . . . . . *sigh* . . . . . . (I need to be drinking more water anyway . . . .)

Gotta run!!

Hi all...
Ma is doing great...went to the cardiologist, who said the episode was most likely from the virus she had. he took her off the meds and hopefully all will be well now.
all schools here are closed..which really makes a difficult situation seeing as there were regents tests today. this means, i believe, that NOONE in NY can take them and those slated for January graduation now cant. Shame all the way around...
i wish people with all their praying for warm weather would realize that this not only messes up the skiers and snow lovers but they need to shut up come harvest when nothing has grown correctly so is way more expensive. they dont get that there are reasons for the cold in areas that should be getting the cold.
this really bites.....we got snow most of the night then the sleet and rain started. my old mechanic slipped and fell getting the next car to fix, cracked his head open...they said injuries like this usually result in a coma the person doesnt come out of. His brain swelled immediately...hes my age, kids...and will have a hard road to recovery. like i said..this weather bites..and Mana...my knee is screaming too....this wet damp is just horrid for it.

Hi Raine wish i could come hear you guys!!! Jen hope the piggy gets better.....
Love you all!!

Good Morning Divas!
Holly - be careful about that body surfing! Elementary librarian would be a good one - I agree!

Raine, I hope today is much easier for you and I sure wish we lived nearer so we could hear you and David! Wooohooo!!!

Mana - absolutely, dairy can be a culprit. And you don't even need to be allergic - you can just be "sensitive". Rice milk (or many other sub. milks) can be a great alternative with cereal - I like them even better. Unsweetened almond milk hovers around 35 - 45 calories/cup and 0 grams fat, so it's a great alternative. Rice milk does, too, although maybe it's something like almond milk is 35 calories and rice milk is 40. Whole Foods also has a 365 organic brand of rice milk (unsweetened) that has inulin in it, so it gives you grams of fiber, too.

Well, I've had a fairly unconstructive week this week, because a lot of things have come up at the last moment - mostly health things for my mom and the piggies. Today I have to go back to the vet's. I think we may be losing our oldest, and up until now, healthiest, guinea pig. It makes me very sad. She seems to be having severe arthritis and the other is having some er... bowel issues. Sigh. It sucks to get old - human or guinea pig. Holly - how is your mom doing? Is she better?

Hope everyone has a lovely Friday!

Hugs,
Jen

Well, you gotta make some noise on the intake so we know you're coming!!!!!!
Mana - sure hope the milk helps. Also do you drink diet soda. I can personally gte. that asparatame will cause all sorts of problems. It turns to formelahide(SP) in your body and in my case it appears to have been the culprit for alot of swelling and arthritic type symptoms!!!!

Notebooks redone - check
Song list ready - check
Guess we are set to play at the legion again tomorrow night.

Heading for bed. Hopefully can get some sleep.

Tomorrow is another day.....just hope to H it is better than today.

Night all!

OMG - it's 70 degrees outside!! Did someone turn off winter???

Anyway, I decided to look up milk and inflammation, and found that if you have a dairy allegy, it can cause all sorts of joint pain and inflammation. I don't *think* I have an allergy to dairy products (although I do sometimes have problems with some brands of milk, which I attributed to a slight lactose intolerance), but I'm going to stay away from milk and other dairy products to see if it helps. Gosh, wouldn't that be something if a dairy allergy was the cause of some/most of my knee pain/swelling!! And I was doing it to myself!!

These are the kinds of days that made me fat! arggh. Well its over and I'm going home and will try not to stress eat....it's amazing how much comfort we or I will speak for myself say I get from that.

SueChan - my chiro told me milk can cause inflamation = inflamation causes swelling and joint pain.

May tomorrow be a better day.

Good morning, Divas!

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to check in - no excuses, just long days. We went to the cabin this past weekend, and it rained for much of time. The temps were moderate (in the 50s), so the first night, we opened all the windows in the "bedroom" (sleeping in the living room until we finish the work in our bedroom). The cabin is right beside the river, so we fell asleep to the sounds of water - both the river and the rain. It was heavenly.

Jen, I'm so glad to hear that your strategy is working! You had mentioned that stress makes your joints flare. I'm not sure if that's the case with my knees (all these issues are so new to me), but I do know that stress does take up residence in the base of my neck and shoulders/upper back, so it could be causing some of my knee problems as well. However, I did want to ask you a question, specifically about eliminating dairy from your diet. What does dairy do to you? The reason why I ask is that I've recently added regular amounts of dairy (specifically skim milk) to my diet, and as I was eating my morning cereal, I wondered if that was causing some of my knee pain/stiffness. I'm not a huge cereal or milk fan, but since I've been working from home, it's been an easy breakfast.

BTW - how's your mom doing?

Holly, so glad you had time with all your kids! And the birthday cake you made is so cute! Sounds like subbing is keeping you very busy - sure hope you're able to take a break from the bakery right now!

Raine - so good to see you again! I've missed you!! So glad to hear the encouraging news about your MIL and your brother, but I am saddened by the news about DH's friend. Will definitely keep David and his friend's wife in my thoughts and prayers.

Need to get back to work - hope everyone has a wonderful day!

RAINE! How nice to "see" you!!! Woooohooo!!! Prayers are definitely coming your way in terms of both your DH, and your friend's wife. I'm glad to get all your updated news, too. I hope your BIL continues to get further into remission. Also, I'm glad to hear your mother-in-law is doing relatively well, too.

Holly - I'll bet you're exhausted! What a schedule. I hope that all the subbing goes smoothly.

My appt. went well yesterday, I'm continuing with what I'm doing, and upping my calories a bit. I think that will all go well. I did splurge last night and have a gluten-free, vegan chocolate chip cookie, and that was a nice treat - I "needed" something like this, and now feel good for another week.

I have a kind of crazy day today, so I'd better get to it!

Hugs and love,
Jen

Hello everybody.....as she peaks her head around the corner, still unable to believe the silly site let her on....waiting for it to crash....but before it kicks me off,,....

Hello everyone! I am so missing not being able to be on here regularly and keep up with everyone. I miss you all.

I want to thank all of you for your prayers for my MIL (her breast surgery went well - now needs to go to chemo dr) and my BIL had good news. He has gone from nothing we can do, but give you some radiation and chemo to try to make you comfortable, to some of the tumors have shrank/disappeared and you are out of danger and will only need t more round of chemo. The oncologist he saw this monday wasn't as enthusiastic, but did say some tumors have shrunk and changed him to a stronger chemo that will be ongoing for the foreseeable future. In any event, he is eating some now vs the feeding tube and he is happy not to have an "expiration date". So thank you all for your prayers. God is so good. We have still been on a rollar coaster though as DH had to go to a neighborhood call, first on the scene for their friend who grew up with them. It came across the scanner as a suicide so DH ran over and ran inside. It has really shaken him and then they had him speak at the funeral and be pollbearer. I think in some ways that helped, but I can see a change. So I will once again ask my dear diva friends for their prayers not only for DH but for his friends wife. All so sad. I pray for anyone with depression or who is in that spot where this is a better alternative. I heard many say they were angry at him for doing this and how could he do it to his wife. I don't know, maybe because I have felt that despair (years ago)....I pray he found peace. Again, thank you all for your prayers.

Did I see Vegas trip? And new corvette paint jobs? And happiness on having the cold and snow? (Yeah Holly we know that's you.) Knees getting better (it takes a long long time...so you are doing great friend!) Jen thank you so much for the email and Holly being my messenger when I cannot get on here.

I love and miss you guys. Hopefully, sparks has figured something out and I can get back on here more often. It still makes no sense how sometimes I can get on and other times only part of it loads and freezes up. Oh well I'm here now and get to wish you all

HEALTH - HAPPINESS & LOVE
-Raine

Claire - have a WONDERFUL time in Vegas! I didn't realize Wednesday had snuck up on me!

Holly - I forget that you know Dave! And yes, he's a great guy. I'm very lucky. ;-)

Well, I see the nutritionist today finally and get her take on what I've been doing, etc. I'm starting to feel a little grouchy on my plan, but on the other hand, my GERD, achy joints, stomach issues, etc., have all disappeared and I have more energy and the weight is slowly but surely creeping down, so I'm not sure what I'm complaining about!

I hope everyone has a fabulous Wednesday!

Hugs,
Jen

Oh, Holly that sounds like such a great time with your kids! What fun for everyone.

Claire - you and DH are just on a roll in terms of fun family times!

My mom had another problem yesterday - she's got a bad case of what we think is vertigo and she almost fell - thank GOD I was with her and caught her. It turns out she wasn't taking the antivert on schedule, that she hadn't told me about it, etc., etc. Now she's on a meds. schedule and she has a doctor's appt. set up for tomorrow morning. My dear Dave will go with her (yes, he's a saint) because I have two doctor's appts. that morning that I really can't reschedule. If she goes on her own, she won't hear anything (but will pretend to) and she'll come back with a lot of misinformation. UGH! I just talked to her and she's doing much better. I'll be going over there later today and try to get work done there (always an interesting proposition).

On the good news front - we had a great conversation with Connor last night - he seems to be finding some great resources at school now - socially and academically and he seems more comfortable there.

Well, I'd better get cracking on work. Have a happy Tuesday!

Hugs,
Jen

Hey Divas! No notifications again. Ugh......

We had a great weekend. Nice ride on Friday (motorcycle), midway/carnival and rodeo and jump house party for DGS (who is 6 today!!). It all caught up with us yesterday (me esp) and we laid low, watching the playoffs w/ DS.

We are off to Vegas on Wed (back Sat) for our cousin's 40th bday. Looking forward to the trip and hanging w/ the family (there will be about 8 of us). Hope we come back with some $$!

Have a great Monday!

Oh, Holly, I'm sorry your kids are all gone! Were the boys up at the same time, or was it just Billy over the weekend? He's the one in MN, right?

I've been posting recipes on my spark blog. I put up a really good borsch recipe yesterday.

I had a really busy weekend and now am ramming into a really busy week. I'll be teaching a week from today! Both can't wait and am a bit nervous.

Hope everyone is having a great start to the week!

Hey Divas!

Mana - good to hear from you! And aren't wonderful partners... wonderful? I feel very blessed with my DH, too. He's just great. Not that we don't have our ups and downs and growls, but he really is a good guy. I was thinking in terms of the walmart trip - I wonder if not only the stress of standing, but if just plain STRESS makes your knees flare? I know it does mine (or whatever joints might be bothering me). And yes, post-surgery like that, you'd be dragging for a long time!

Holly - which message?

Green smoothies - so, the idea is to get some fresh, raw, dark greens in each day. So, since I've been off dairy, I've been making smoothies for breakfast - 1 cup of fruit (usually about 1/2 frozen), 1 cup unsweetened rice milk, and 1 1/2 TBS flaxseeds, which then I grind and add into the smoothie mixture, and usually 1 tsp cinnamon. I find this REALLY good, not too sweet and it keeps me filled for the morning. Now... I also have to say that I DO work from home, and I start to get a bit hungry around 10:30, but I do 10 minutes of exercise, and then I'm fine until lunch. If you can't take a walk or whatever around then, 1/2 oz. nuts or another piece of fruit or whatever would do as well. Anyway, I've now begun adding about 2 cups spinach to the mix (rinsed REALLY well). I can't taste it, and obviously, it adds great nutrients. So, the fruit mixtures I've been doing are 1/2 cup frozen blueberries with either 1/2 banana or 1/2 large pear. We also got a mango as a thank you gift from one of Connor's buddies, when we'd had a bunch of kids over to the house, and I used half of that one morning. So... that's my smoothie story.

Also... I made the BEST soup this week from Cooking Light:

http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/chicken-
soup-cabbage-apple-50400000118587/

UNREAL. We loved it. It makes WAY more than 4 servings - I think it made more like 8. It's a "second night" kind of thing when you've roasted a chicken or cooked a whole chicken another way. I didn't put in the 8 oz. of breast meat because I didn't have it - the night before we'd eaten a breast and a leg (and Dave had a wing) from a 2- 3 lb. chicken, and the night I made the soup I stripped the rest of the meat. I will say it's best the first night, so you might want to cut the recipe in half, for those cooking for couples. It's also a bit of work, but it's COMPLETELY worth it.

Okay... enough of me and my cooking. Have a lovely weekend all!

Hugs,
Jen

Hello, Divas!

Another rainy day in Georgia . . . . *sigh* . . . . Supposed to rain all weekend - blah. Interestingly enough, my knees weren't too bad today UNTIL I took my mom to Sam's. OMG - how can anyone stare at laundry detergent for 10 minutes before making a decision? And not just laundry detergent - she does that with everything!

But, all-in-all, it was a good day. While at lunch, she started talking about this "old man" who was getting dessert. She ended her story with, "Old people sure are funny!" And she's 86!!!!!

Jen, yay for better-fitting clothes! That's awesome! I can tell that I've put a few pounds back on - after my surgery, the pounds just melted away. Of course, I didn't have much of an appetite, and any kind of movement required great exertion on my part which probably burned a bunch of calories.

Wow, Holly - 16 below!! I don't think I've ever even experienced 0 degree weather - the lowest I can remember was in the single digits, maybe 9 degrees. I, too, love the cold, but interestingly enough, I "feel" the cold a lot more ever since my surgery. I get chilled easily, especially my feet. And when my feet are cold, I'm cold all over!

Claire, your days sound really nice. I took a bicycle ride myself on Wednesday - at the gym! It was my first time in the gym in forever, and silly me, I rode for 30 minutes. Don't know what I was thinking, but I'm glad I was able to walk out of there on my own steam!

I was feeling rather down about the whole knee issue the other night, and my hubby (wonderful guy that he is) reminded me of how far I've come since the surgery. That I essentially had the equivalent of four broken bones plus muscles, tendons and nerves cut through, and that I had to learn how to walk all over again. He asked what did doctors do for someone who broke their leg? They put it in a cast and tell them not to walk on it, but they had me up the day after surgery. I was also bemoaning the fact that I had absolutely no stamina, and he reminded me of what the doctor said - that the muscles in my legs aren't working with each other yet, they're working against each other, and that's what's wearing me out. I had forgotten all that - glad he's around to lift my spirits when I need it!

Well, I'm going to relax a bit - I'm exhausted!! Hubby wants to go up to the cabin tonight instead of waiting until the morning . . . .

Good Morning Divas!

Holly - have a fabulous weekend! Also, yes, it was after she talked to you, and it was the same day, sadly.

Claire - it sounds like things are going well down your way. You got my message about not being able to post comments on your blog?

Well, I've been having a great week. Have no idea what the scale will say on Monday, but I'm feeling great and clothes are fitting SO much better, so that's gotta be reward enough.

I tried "green" smoothies yesterday and today for breakfast. They taste the same as my non-green smoothies, but I get 2 cups of spinach in, as well. I never thought I'd like smoothies for breakfast, but I'm really enjoying them. If anyone's interested, let me know and I'll post what I've been doing.

I hope everyone has a fabulous Friday!

Hugs,
Jen

Life is good here in TX. We get a few cold days, then a few warm days...back and forth. We get a chance to ride on the warm ones, which is nice (we're planning a ride for tomorrow -- supposed to be 75....then 45 for a high Sat). On the cooler days we get to have a fire, so it's allllllllllll good!

Today we took a ride -- on our bicycles, then did some strength training. Whew!
I'm consistently inconsistent these days....I'll exercise for a couple of days, then take a couple off. Not the consistency I want but it's better than nothing! Food is pretty good too. I pulled the scales out to weigh the dogs (we're changing their eating habits too) and peeked. Haven't budged either way. emoticon Still working toward ONE-derland.

Thanks for checking out my blog. It's been fun to write. We'll see how it goes......

Take care of yourselves, all you snow lovers. No slipping on the ice!

Good Morning Divas!

Mana, I'm so sorry that weather is making your knees hurt. That must be an awful drag. I think it's doing the same to our little guinea pig. She's all of a sudden developed real pain in her knees. We give her meds now and it's helping, but I think I have to take her back in and get the dosage upped.

I "spoke" with Raine last night via FB. She really misses us and wishes she could get on the site consistently. While things are going really well for her BIL, they lost a friend on Monday, so things are still pretty rough. She'd appreciate prayers.

Holly - again, I hope you're enjoying a wonderful visit with your boy!

Well, I guess I'd better get back to work.

Hugs and love,
Jen

Good morning!

So glad your son is here, Holly, and it sounds like by this weekend, you're going to have a full house!! Yay!!

Jen, CONGRATS on the weight loss!! You go, Girl!!!

Claire, I've been enjoying your blog - thanks!!

Z, hope you're feeling better!!

Raine, so happy to hear the news about your brother! Wow!!

Weather here is depressing - kinda warmish (around 60) with rain. NOT good for the knees, and they've been complaining big time for the past three days. So tired of this . . . .

Back to work - y'all have a great day!

Hey Z, Claire!

Claire - I'm so glad Z reminded me about your blog. I was just playing around with it and love it! I tried to post, though, after my comment on Day 1 - I had some things to say about Leap of Faith, but I couldn't post. It was weird. It was like the posting mechanism was stuck. Boo!

Z and Claire, I'm jealous of your weather. It is cold, dark and icy/snowy here.

My only solace is dancing to my DVDs and a big slow cooker of veggie chili. And reading To Kill a Mockingbird. Again. For class, but it's still one of my favorites, so that's okay. And I may watch Jane Eyre for another class tonight.

So... um, yeah. I have no complaints, really. ;-)

Have a wonderful evening!

Hugs,
Jen

Claire, love your blog! It's so fun. Congrats on being close to ONE-derland; I hope to get there sometime this year. Hope your weather in Dallas is as nice as our weather in Houston. Today is overcast but it's been in the 70s and sunny with low humidity. Just like we like it!

Got a stomach bug and it interrupted my sleep so I've been off my food and not been exercising since Friday. Decided this morning that I should at least go back to tracking what I eat and maybe move around by walking (with or without the dog) so that I don't regain the weight I've managed to lose.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Actually I put the scales away. I was hopping on them daily (or more!) and I need to focus on my health....consistency...persistence....and the numbers will take care of themselves. I can't let a number rule my day! lol

It was a great weekend. We did some riding, grilled a little.... Sue, glad you made it to your destination and back safely. We fluctuate between the 50s and 70s these days. Not too shabby!

Happy Monday Divas!

I'm down another 1.6, so I'm thrilled, given my big drop last week. This new eating plans seems to be working for me.

Claire - how are you doing? Any closer to Onederland?

I had a good day yesterday - I had some grade evaluations to write up still, but I also went to see Hugo with Dave, and had some quality time with the paper last night. I feel rejuvenated and ready for the work week.

How is everyone else doing?

Hi, everyone!

Well, I finally got the Corvette restoration photo book finished - wahoo!! I worked on it for about 15 hours yesterday and didn't get to bed until 3-ish. Another person in our club is taking a look at it (always good to have another pair of eyes review it), and then it's off to the publisher. Yay!

Wow, Jen, it sure sounds like you're doing an elimination diet!! Kudos to you for being so strong and working this through. BTW - hope that bug is totally gone and that you're feeling 100% again!

Sue, glad you made it back safely! We're heading to the cabin later on this afternoon - it's up in the N GA mountains (close to Copperhill, TN), but I think the roads should be okay by now.

Woo-hoo, Claire - how wonderful that you're so close to ONEderland!!

Z, be thankful it was only mud! We used to have a black Lab that would find the nastiest stuff to roll around in. One time at the lake, she found a dead fish to roll in!! UGH.

Holly, I've only used one of my painkillers since I put them away and that was when I had that cracked molar extracted. My doctor prescribed oxycontin and percoset, and the potential addition to oxycontin scares me! So, when my knees get really bad, I take a couple of Tylenol and one Aleve (since I can't take Motrin or Advil). The combo does help sometimes!

Well, need to get clothes and food packed, and then we're headed to the cabin for the long weekend! Hope y'all are having a fun day!

Happy Saturday, Divas!

Sue - glad you made it there and back safely!

I've decided I'm not doing the elimination diet, but I AM cutting out gluten and dairy and I'm only having eggs via baking. I'm also sticking to a cup of coffee or espresso every other day, and green tea on the other days, and 1 square of uber dark chocolate and no other sugar. If that doesn't work in terms of energy, weight loss, etc., then I'll try cutting the eggs first, sugar second and coffee/green tea third. We'll see.

I have a ton of chores today and tomorrow. We're planning to hunker down here and get things done. We may go dancing tonight, though, and to Hugo tomorrow. Or we may do neither. ;-) I hope everyone's having a good weekend!

Love and hugs,
Jen

Happy Thursday Evening Divas!
My nephew left today and I've been going ever since. We had a really terrific visit with him. Tomorrow I start the full elimination diet. I'm ready. It all feels right.
I'm really tired tonight - still with the vestiges of this stupid bug. Tomorrow is insane, and then this weekend I'm really planning to catch up on work and sleep.
Z, I'm glad you had a good time with your Mom and then a lovely walk. Where does your Mom live? Holly - how is your Mom doing?
Claire - good to hear from you! I'm planning to visit "BeenThereClaire" tomorrow.

Hugs to all,
Jen

Hi Divas! Sorry I've been MIA -- no notifications! And then suddenly, one day, i think, "I haven't heard from the Divas in awhile...." but it takes me a day or two or three to remember! Ginko biloba? lol

We've been rocking along. I've been writing, which has been really fun (did I mention my new blog? sorry if it's a repeat.....the old memory thing again..... www.ivebeenthereclaire.com).

We're working out together and eating (mostly) right. I'm ooohhhh-so-close to ONEderland -- and today, I actually believe I'll get back there. Sorry about the moms, doctors, etc. that's going on. I'm sorry you're having a tough time.

Hello, Divas! Sorry about the lack of insurance but I blame the people who have it or have the money and don't really care about the people who don't. In fact, there seem to be alot of people who don't really care about anyone but themselves. And some of them are now running for office! But I don't really want to talk politics because I don't think it's a particularly pleasant subject. The weather here is Houston has been great the last couple of days. After awful stoms on Monday, we;ve had sun and pleasant weather. Mom went home today and after we got back from the airport, my son and I took our dog to the arboretum for a nice, long walk. We walked so much that the dog got tired and laid down in the mud in the middle of one of the trails. Fortunately, he didn't get too dirty and we managed to persuade him to get up and go home with us. Hope everyone has a pleasant night.

Jan you said it so much better than i can. I do think, too, there should be a cap on fees and medecines. I worked in a pharmacy at a hospital. one of my jobs was checking in the drug orders and i know what the wholesale cost is. pharmacies make ridiculous amounts on these medecines, and you KNOW the companies making them do, also.
I have no problem paying a doctor for a visit. But when i sit in the waiting room for an hour, then go in and get a 5 minute visit..then they want $100 for that? come ON. its totally ridiculous. if they herd even 20 people a day through..thats 2000 bucks..and they do that in an HOUR!!! and God forbid you need a long visit...the price goes up accordingly. if anyone else did this they would be arrested for robbery. and the SAME doc complained to me about my cake prices at $1.65 a slice, yet they have NO qualms about going to a restaurant and shelling out $8 for a slice of preservative laden dessert. go figure.
Unfortunately, as long as we have 2 parties going at each others throats, hating each other, and not listening to anyones reasonable suggestions just because it came from the other party (one side is as bad as the other) nothing is going to fix. I destest and abhor politics..this should be ONE NATION under God...not 2 as it is now. there needs to be a GROW UP button and a FACE REALITY button. I picked up $700 worth of prescriptions last week and the lady smiled and said that will be 8 dollars. come ON no wonder the system doesnt work!!! i cant pay 700 but i sure wouldnt have complained about 25 or 30 for that amount of medecine. And Kev pays his chemo out of pocket..its horribly expensive...give HIM a break!!!
Sorry. its so close to home i get upset. I cant make a decent wage or i lose my medecine. I lose my medecine i die. so i have to be poor to live. something is wrong with this picture. Oh..and beleive me..i make around 8 thou a YEAR. yeah. i'm not joking. and i've learned how to live on it, and live fairly decently only there are NO extras, not much fun, and it stinks having to worry all the time.
ok off mY soapbox.

Mana...think of it as a barometer. And it does get better after a while..but i hate to tell you it wont go away. I broke my arm when i was 11 and it still aches when rain or snow is coming. my knee is really bad. thats where the vicodin comes in...i dont like taking it but sometimes its that or suffer....and i HAVE to me on my feet so not alot of choice...

Yeah, I don't get it either. All the doctors' offices I called were accepting new patients with any kind of insurance EXCEPT Medicare. No reasons, they're just not. I found this last one only because I finally got exasperated with yet another office's refusal and said, well, who does accept Medicare???? And the receptionist asked someone and they came up with this doctor's name. I'm not so sure that we'll "keep" him - he has a lousy bedside manner (not to mention his forgetfulness at recording his decisions), but we may not have a choice. I'm just waiting on Mom to say she refuses to go back to him (like she did the dentist I found for her as well as her previous doctor). Easy for her to say - she's not the one having to hunt for another.

And, yes, you would think my knees would be better, wouldn't you? I'm still not even close to 100% yet, but at times, I think I see a glimmer of the light at the end of the tunnel. Those are the days I'm able to walk almost normally and climb up into the SUV with a minimum of problems. But then the weather turns and it's horrible. My knees feel swollen as if there's a tight band around them. Monday afternoon, it hurt to walk, to sit, even to lie down. Yesterday was even worse, and today is not good either. I have that "Frankenstein" walk going on because bending my knees is just too ouchy.

I'm really tired of this whole knee thing and am tired of my life being inhibited by it. My resolution this year was not losing weight (not yet anyway), but to get past this knee thing. I've put away my cane for the most part (I will sometimes take it with me just in case I need it) and am doing as much as I can for as long as I can. Then when I can't anymore, I'll sit and rest. The weather causes temporary setbacks, but I'm determined to push on. And once I get to a point where I feel that I'm back to my old self (or close to it), then I'll work on the weight issue. I just don't think I can do both at the same time.

Well, I need to get back to work. Sorry to be such a grumpy bear . . . .

Holly,
Again, I'm so sorry your mom has gone through this. Mana, it's interesting because up here, everyone takes medicare. I can't stand how variable it is.
In terms of the provision to have everyone get it, I think that's to keep the costs reasonable - if healthy people could opt out, and then join just when they needed it, they'd be draining the system financially. Maybe the solution would be that they're denied coverage until they either agree to pay out of pocket or join AND pay a retroactive fine. It's very complicated. So many other countries have decent, national medical care, and I'm not sure what this country is so scared of. I know the horror stories of wait times to see specialists, etc., but is it really so much different here? I know in our area even if you're paying through the nose, you're still going to be waiting forever for certain types of doctors. In many societies, basic healthcare is seen as a right. I wish we'd see it in the same way. I honestly don't understand our medical system - too much emphasis on really expensive drugs and treatments and nothing spent on helping so that issues can be prevented. It's like we talk so much about our kids, but we don't really do very much for them. Not ours, personally, but our children who are part of this country.
Okay, off my soapbox. My nephew is here and the visit is going wonderfully! I ate probably the wrong things last night, but other than that, did well. My workouts are going really well, which is encouraging.
Mana, it's a shame about your knees! Shouldn't they be doing better since the surgery? Or is this just a weather thing?
I hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday!

Hugs,
Jen

the only thing i didnt like about this one was the forced you have to get it or pay a fine. other than that it was good..those who had it would have no change, those that didnt could get affordable. i say if someone doesnt want it fine but they can be denied treatment. they would be the ones choosing to do that.
someone, someone made i sound like those who have insurance would have to change but thats NOT how it worked...the worst part is you have to read it not listen to the naysayers...it is a GOOD plan and does no one harm except for the forced you MUST get it..and i do understand that as you and i both know people would NOT get it then scream if something happened and they needed it. but i think as long as there is a consequence if you need it and refuse then they shouldnt force you..my own opinion on it.

Holly, I used to love rainy days myself, but that was before I got new knees. As soon as we get the cabin habitable, you are more than welcome to come visit!!!!!

I hate that y'all are having to deal with having no health insurance - that's so scary considering the high price of doctors, hospitals and meds. Maybe the politicos can get their act together and put together an health insurance plan that will work for everyone . . . . maybe . . . . .

Mana when we had the camp at lake george and i spent summers there i LOVED rainy days. I would build a fire and sit in the old overstuffed chair and read...or play solitaire. some of my best days were spent that way. Now on the off chance i get to go we go to my cousins a few bays over and pray for sunny days not rain. we've been fairly lucky with it..i get to go a couple days every 2 or 3 years. sometimes.

I am sorry that happened to your mom. that stinks. and thats what i mean. I could go on and on but Kev has no insurance. noone will take him due to his pre existing from the cancers. its a bad deal...for a while it looked as though there was going to be a light at the end of the tunnel but these idiot politicians that will fight everything their side didnt put out there should all be in the situation we are in here in my house. not enough income..not allowed to work enough to make ends meet or lose your life saving prescriptions and insurance, and the other one with cancer paying for chemo out of his disability payments. and i'm not picking on one party they BOTH do it...but i would like to say to whoever has that horrid commercial on tv that says the healthcare bill was "rammed down the american peoples throat" NO it wasnt. there are alot of us out here who WANT IT. and i'd even venture a guess that they might be the majority.....

Happy Tuesday, y'all!

No, Jen, I don't normally have Mondays off - Fridays are my usual "off" days. We had to meet with the contractor yesterday so we could do the inspection and pay him for installing the flood vents. He was supposed to have finished up Friday, but he didn't actually get finished until late yesterday. It was almost 11 before we got home last night.

We had planned to head up there Saturday evening after the munchkin's bday party, but it turned out to be a nasty day - drizzling rain, yuck. Unfortunately, that weather persisted throughout the weekend and will continue for the next few days. (My knees were screaming at me yesterday and aren't happy today either!!) I hate this dreary weather!

BTW - congrats on the weight loss!! And enjoy your visit with your nephew!!

Z, we lived in Houston when we first got married, years ago, close to Hobby airport. We had a chance to visit about five years ago, and boy has it changed!! We had a hard time recognizing any of our old haunts. Of course, I say the same thing about where we lived when we first moved to that Atlanta area!

Holly, so glad that your mom is doing better, and you're such a sweetie to make her some meals so she doesn't have to worry about cooking (the penguins are sooo cute!). And I totally understand about the health insurance problem. My mother has Medicare and TriCare which covers whatever Medicare doesn't (she has that because Dad was in the military). You'd think she'd have no problem, right? Wrong. The problem is finding a doctor that will accept Medicare patients. They don't care that she also has a supplemental policy. You wouldn't believe how many I called trying to find ONE that will accept her, and then ya gotta wonder about the one that does. This last one took her off of 3 medicines but "forgot" to make a note in her file. She needed her prescriptions renewed and, yup, you guessed it - he included those 3. She had it filled and didn't realize it until she got home. The doctor's office is actually claiming no fault - said she should have checked before she left the pharmacy with them!! Meanwhile, she is out the $$ for them (and they were 90-day supplies) . . . .

Hmmmmm - wonder where Claire is? Do ya supposed she danced nekkid in Wal-Mart and is now a guest at the local hoosegow?? :)

Guess I'd better get back to work!

Hi All just back from my Mama's..she gave us a scare last Thursday had to be rushed by ambulance to the hospital..only they didnt rush they took her to the little small community hospital and from there to the larger one in Plattsburgh. She does so much for everyone else, and now this...she has no insurance at 81 years old, and this is going to kill her financially--2 ER visits not by choice (she was in the clinic..they thought she was having a heart attack...and supposed protocol is they have to stop at the closest hospital first. so they went 30 miles east to take her to a hospital that was 10 miles closer than the big one. she was in no distress, no pain, and she ended up just having afib like i have. go figure.
Now shes really worried about how she is going to pay the bills...it really really SUCKS. i wont get on my soapbox but i am ANGRY that people are trying to stop healthcare in this country!!! Especailly for those who are still working to make ends meet at 81...or people like me who WANT to work but will lose our insurance if we "make too much" and that too much isnt even enough to make a morgage payment. it STINKS!!
anyhow. i was there with her all weekend...made her meals ahead as she hates to cook and needs to rest right now.
on the good news front...go take a look at my blog!!! i am so proud of these young men---and can honestly say they are kind, caring people that I actually had a tiny part in their lives!!!

Thanks, Mana! Did you have yesterday off, or is that the schedule - that you have Mondays off? I'm so glad you get that time at the cabin - it must be really relaxing!

Holly, Claire - where are youuuuuuu?
