NEWSBREAK: Looks like Ray Lewis and Cheryl Burke won't be competing on Dancing With the Stars Monday night. A source tells ET that the two plan to withdraw from the dance competition show tonight due to an injury that the former NFL star has sustained. Over the weekend, Lewis shared a lengthy post to Instagram about "finding balance between work, family and rest." "Don't get me wrong -- I understand the grind -- the effort and commitment it takes is unparalleled," he wrote. "But when you finally level up what else will be left? Did you cut off your friends and family or sacrifice your mental health?" "Make time for what matters," he added. "Take care of yourself. Mind, Body, and Spirit. #NoExcuses."

DISNEY NIGHT this week on “Dancing With the Stars” will preview upcoming Disney projects in a big way. The ABC contest, which starts at 8 p.m. Monday, will feature a dance to “Into the Unknown” from “Frozen 2.” The sequel will be released Nov. 22. There will be previews of the live-action “Lady and the Tramp,” arriving Nov. 12, and “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” coming Nov. 12 from the streaming service Disney+. The first episode, however, will preview at 8 p.m. Nov. 8 on ABC, Disney Channel and Freeform.

The opening dance number, a pre-recorded segment, takes place at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif. The cast performs on Main Street, U.S.A., and in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Zach Woodlee (“Grease Live” and “Glee”) choreographed the number. Through the show, the celebrity contestants and their pro partners will be shown in packages shot at Disneyland, and one couple will visit “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.”

“DWTS” isn’t announcing which Disney songs the couples will be performing. But the numbers include “We’re All in This Together” from “High School Musical,” “Under the Sea” from “The Little Mermaid,” “A Spoonful of Sugar” from “Mary Poppins,” “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” from “The Lion King” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

The celebrities, their partners and the dances Monday:
Country singer Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko on a samba
Model Sailor Brinkley-Cook and Val Chmerkovskiy on a Viennese waltz
Pop singer Ally Brooke and Sasha Farber on a contemporary routine
Hannah Brown of “The Bachelorette” and Alan Bersten on a foxtrot
“The Office” actress Kate Flannery and Pasha Pashkov on a jazz routine
“Queer Eye” star Karamo and Jenna Johnson on a samba
Comedian and actor Kel Mitchell and Witney Carson on a jazz routine
Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer and Lindsay Arnold on a quickstep
“Dawson’s Creek” star James Van Der Beek and Emma Slater on a paso doble

Basketball star Lamar Odom, the weakest dancer this season, was eliminated last week. He was the third celebrity to depart, following Mary Wilson of the Supremes and former NFL star Ray Lewis, who left because of injuries.

Just finished watching. I loved that they had a variety of time periods represented for the movies. Glad nobody else had to go home since Ray had to stop. His foot is in bad shape with three tendons torn and needing surgery to repair. Had he done more he'd be lucky to walk. But how much fun to see Rashad dance again. He's so good!

Any idea on a theme for next week? If they announced one, I missed it.

Courti~I believe they did say during the last dance of the night. I never vote...just make my own little guesses.

Next Week: Lights, camera, action! It’s Movie Night!

Vying for America’s vote, each couple will dance to a variety of songs inspired by the celebrity’s favorite movies including Wilson Philips’ “Hold On,” “Here We Go Again” from Mamma Mia!, Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Woman,” Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5,” Selena’s “Dreaming of You,” Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow” and Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On,” among others.

The show will open with a behind-the-scenes look at some movie magic on our very own “backlot.” Weaving through three “movie sets” on the way to the ballroom, viewers will run into our stars and pros as they make their way to stage! In addition, the broadcast will include a special Star Wars moment.

The couples are (with their dance choice) the following:

Country artist Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko (Tango)
“The Bachelorette” Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten (Rumba)
Model and photographer Sailor Brinkley-Cook and Val Chmerkovskiy (Tango)
Pop star Ally Brooke and Sasha Farber (Rumba)
“The Office” actress Kate Flannery and Pasha Pashkov (Quickstep)
TV host and “Queer Eye” star Karamo and Jenna Johnson (Jive)
Super Bowl MVP Ray Lewis and Cheryl Burke (Cha Cha)
Comedian and actor Kel Mitchell and Witney Carson (Rumba)
Two-time NBA Champion Lamar Odom and Peta Murgatroyd (Cha Cha)
Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer and Lindsay Arnold (Cha Cha)
TV and film actor James Van Der Beek and Emma Slater (Rumba)

Since I don't text, I had to go online and figure out my password etc before I could vote. I think they said before last commercial of the show, how do we know when that is. Did I read during last dance, makes more sense. I like James and Lauren. Ally and Kate surprised me.

Marys fans are old and probably don't have access to all the electronics that are needed to vote. Surprised that Lamar was in the bottom 2 since he is a Kardashian. I thought that Sean would be a bottom 2

I didn't vote. My favorite will be in the final 3 because of Bachelor Nation...lol Also last night I was watching the show on mute. I was watching something on my cell. The city was presenting 3 proposals for a casino

able to text in votes this year for first time?
So you can vote 3 ways- online- call- text? So 30 votes for one person if their fans do all 3- and the rest suffer if theirs don't.

Then they mentioned it stops shortly after last dance- so do they want you to vote BEFORE all the people dance? Cause you won't have much time afterwards for 10 votes.?

Wonder why the judges get a save now? Is it because of good dancers being sent home when they shouldn't be because of voters picking favorites over good dancers? Might be interesting to see how this plays out.

Just watching now:

James was good. Carrie Ann is back into her foot off the floor again. Why is she so fixated with that when the rest aren't?

Sailor - If it wasn't real that Christie broke her arm- I would say it was rigged for her YOUNGER daughter to take over for her. Much better chance to win than she would.
Even the fact they keep bringing it up how short time she has had to practice.

Ray- She was working on him being light on feet- she needs to work on his arms being light. He is stiff. And Cheryl's dress had me looking for a while. Being Skin color on top with those
blue markings in the places where they were- make it look ridiculous.-- if she was trying to go for a "nude" look.

Ally- so she is from a group that dances- but people say she is the worst dancer of them?
Her feet were off the floor- Will Carrie Ann mention it? Nope! They tell of her mistakes- yet give her high scores????

Mary - Not good but for her age - not bad at all.

Lauren - She was OK- But these judges are ridiculous.

Sean - He can walk good- but dance? But really not as bad as I was going to expect.

Karamo- Len was right about lack of body contact- so where did the other 2 get 7's for him? 6 maybe- but 7?

KAte- it was nice. I think she did earn her scores.

Kel- That ending? Was it a mess up? No one called him on it.

Lamar- I agree with the scores. He needs to loosen up.

Hannah- it was pretty.

I think Lamar should of been the one to go based on scores.

I will take each day as it comes.

Here's the breakdown of the couples by dance type with combined score.

CHA-CHA
Hannah Brown & Alan (20)
Kate Flannery & Pasha (15)
Lauren Alaina & Gleb (19)
Ally Brooke & Sasha (16)

TANGO
Kel Mitchell & Whitney (16)
James Van Der Beek & Emma (21)

FOX TROT
Lamar Odom & Peta (15)
Sailor Brinkley & Val (18)
Mary Wilson & Brandon (17)

SALSA
Karamo & Jenna (17)
Ray Lewis & Cheryl (15)
Sean Spicer & Lindsay (12)

emoticon Top Scorers are James VanDerBeek with 21 and Hannah Brown with 20.

New Rules Revealed that I picked up on:
1. Bringing back the more requirement of having more of the traditional dance steps/moves in the routines.
2. Viewers votes are receiving some type of change to be revealed next week.
3. Judges were given task of voting "stricter" based on the technique.

I enjoyed all the dances and was surprised that Sean did as well as he did. Poor NBA guy Lamar is going to have a rough time just with the 6'10". Imagine how much distance Peta would need on those dances that require long arms!

I don't understand that either. Al the other years , they had the show with the partners.

I don't like last night's scoring. I know it was just the first night, but I found a couple of them kinds low for no real reason, when others got a higher score and didn't seem any better.

Not sure who the judges favorites are going to be just yet. maybe after next week, be able to tell better.

I will take each day as it comes.

It was on tv today that Christie Brinkley is out of dancing.
She fell and broke her arm in practice. Her daughter is going to take her place.
They are saying she has only 3 days to learn a routine. They did not show who the partner was for her though when they showed the fall. They had the man's face blurred.
They did interview Val outside about the show, but didn't say if he was with her or not.

ALSO.....

“2019 Season Premiere” – “Dancing with the Stars” is back and better than ever with a new, well-known and energetic cast of 12 celebrities who are ready to move out of their comfort zones and hit the ballroom floor. The competition begins with a two-hour season premiere, live, MONDAY, SEPT. 16 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. (TV-PG, L) Episodes can also be viewed the next day on ABC.com, the ABC app and Hulu.

With a lineup of celebrities including a supermodel, a former White House press secretary, a Bachelorette, pro-athletes from the NFL and NBA, a Supreme and a TV icon to name a few, the new celebrity cast is adding some glitzy bling to their wardrobe, breaking in their dancing shoes and readying themselves for their first dance on the ballroom floor. For the first time ever, viewers will find out during the season premiere broadcast which celebrities are paired with their favorite professional dancers. Highlights of the new season include voting changes, a brand-new set, a new creative team behind the competitive dances and the return of a loved pro, Peta Murgatroyd, and two new professional ballroom dancers.

Throughout the first evening, the celebrity and pro duos will perform the time-honored dances of the Cha Cha, Foxtrot, Salsa or Tango. Some of the songs featured in the premiere will include Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” Shania Twain’s “Man, I Feel Like a Woman!,” Donna Summer’s “She Works Hard for the Money,” Jonas Brothers’ “Sucker,” Michael Buble’s “Feeling Good,” Lizzo’s “Juice” and Imagine Dragons’ “Whatever it Takes,” among others.

For the show’s first broadcast, there will not be a viewing audience vote, and only the judges will score the routines. Those scores will carry over and be combined with judges’ scores from week two, which also marks the first weekly live viewing audience vote of the season (via abc.com and SMS/text) – and the first elimination. The live votes will occur each week only during the live broadcast in the EDT/CDT time zones (but fans in all U.S. time zones may vote within that window).

Moving forward with each subsequent Monday night, the live vote combined with the judges’ scores will be revealed during the broadcast.

The celebrity cast and professional dancers are listed below.

I have no idea why the numbers are uneven and I can't find a solid lead as to who is actually partnering.

Past fall seasons of Dancing With the Stars have typically run between September and Thanksgiving. Season 28 will be no different: The show will begin at 8 p.m. ET on Monday, September 16 on ABC.

This year marks the first time DWTS hasn't had a spring season since 2007. If we had to guess, last year's controversial results may have something to do with it.

Despite receiving weekly low scores from the judges, Bobby was declared last season's winner thanks to fan votes. The finale results caused a major uproar online and prompted viewers to demand that the show change its voting system.

So ... is Dancing With the Stars tweaking the voting system then?

Though it's not certain that the voting process will dramatically change in season 28, longtime host Tom Bergeron hinted on Twitter that the show's producers are definitely talking about it.
"Just had first meeting re: Season 28 of @DancingABC. Major takeaway, we hear you #DWTS," he tweeted in early June.

In late July, Tom hopped on social media again to drop another clue about the scoring system. This time, he teased that the 10 paddles the judges use to reward outstanding performances will be going away.

In prior seasons, the show gave equal weight to the judges' scores and viewer votes. As a consequence though, many claimed that the show was simply turning into a popularity contest and didn't properly award talent and skill.

ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke told Deadline that format changes were still in the works, but that fans should expect a “big season.”

“The producers were just in last week talking about the casting and the creative evolution," she said in early August. "It’s all very exciting. It won’t be major format changes, just tweaking and tinkering."

She went on to add that she hopes the small "tweaks and tinkering" will make the show more everlasting.

Who will be a part of the Dancing With the Stars 2019 cast?

Cast announcements have not yet been made for the 2019 season, but we'll definitely update this post when we know more.

In the meantime, Karey teased that fans should brace themselves for some pretty big names. “I’m quite excited about the casting they’ve put together. It’s not done, but the names that I have heard [are impressive]," she said to Deadline.

As far as the judging panel goes, fans can expect to see all three of their favorites again — Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, and Carrie Ann Inaba.

Wait ... Carrie Ann Inaba is for sure returning even though she's on The Talk?

Carrie Ann may have picked up a daytime gig on CBS's The Talk since last season, but that doesn't mean she's giving up on DWTS anytime soon.

She confirmed to GoodHousekeeping.com that she was "looking forward" to the fall and is anxious to see who will be a part of next season's cast.

More DWTS Season 28 Watch Outs (Bigger Celebs?), Secret Format Changes, And More
Posted: 14 May 2019 11:46 AM PDT

Will there be bigger celebrities for Dancing With The Stars Season 28? According to Deadline, this is a huge possibility. More below including names Jennifer Love Hewitt and Katelyn Ohasi being thrown out there. Also, their could be some format changes….

“We have been pitched some really fun format changes for Dancing with the Stars by the executive producers but right now they are top secret. [Reality chief] Rob Mills and I had a meeting with them a couple of months ago and got very excited about some of the new ideas that they were talking about to freshen up the format. It’s still the show that audience knows and loves but they’ve got some good ideas in terms of how to surprise people in new ways,” she said.

Burke, speaking at the Disney press upfronts event, added that it was “going after bigger stars than we have in a long time” as the series returns on Monday nights between 8pm and 10pm. This comes after radio host Bobby Bones won the last season, beating the likes of Harry Potter alum Evanna Lynch, Fuller House‘s Juan Pablo Di Pace and former Dukes of Hazzard star John Schneider to the top prize.

It will unlikely have trouble finding top names; I Know What You Did Last Summer star Jennifer Love Hewitt recently revealed that she would be interested in appearing and gymnast and viral sensation Katelyn Ohasi said she had been in talks to join.

The ABC chief also said that resting the show, which is based on BBC format Strictly Come Dancing, should have a positive impact. “Resting the show does help us focus on talent and we will go after people that we think will be the strongest. That has been a gift and the producers are chomping at the bit to bring it back next fall,” she added.

I seriously hope they take a long, hard look at the judging procedure, etc. before the next season. If they don't want to change that...best look at evening out the playing field instead so anyone who goes home was either just as bad/good as the rest. I think it would be fun to do a random draw of partners the first week and give everyone the same "short" dance to learn either as pairs or as a group. Then the competition could begin after that as all the "first dance" jitters would be gone and they would have done some team-building.

All good things come to an end.

Dancing With the Stars’ Alan Bersten and Alexis Ren have called it quits, Us Weekly exclusively confirms.

“She’s in Japan working and he’s going on tour in a couple of weeks, but they are still talking and still consider each other friends,” a source tells Us. “They aren’t in the same country for a while, which makes a relationship hard, but they are open to whatever the future might hold.”

The model, 22, hinted earlier in the week that she and the professional dancer, 24, went their separate ways. After an Instagram user asked for an update on the pair’s romance, Ren responded, “feelings aren’t black and white and neither is life. We’re focused on our careers and growing as individuals. He’s an amazing person and I’m grateful he came into my life. He’s on his own journey and I respect that.”

Latest News from Gold Derby:

While some fans have vowed to stop watching “Dancing with the Stars” after Bobby Bones‘ win, it seems some others just can’t quit it — so much so that 56 percent of you hope the series maintains its twice-a-year airing schedule.

Unfortunately, chances of that happening in 2019 are slim. Tom Bergeron has already tweeted multiple times that he doubts the show will return in the spring, where it has aired its even-numbered seasons since Season 4 in 2007. “Dancing” trotted out a four-week “Athletes” season this spring to make room for “American Idol, but it doesn’t sound like ABC will go with another shortened “Dancing” installment again, especially since many viewers weren’t fans of the truncated run. But as long as ABC has “Idol” and doesn’t change “Idol”‘s or “Dancing”‘s timeslots, the days of a regular spring “Dancing” season might be over.

Bergeron revealed that ABC OK’d the show to sign off on Monday’s finale with the vague “See you next year,” so there is a small possibility the show will be back more than once (summer and fall?). But the safest bet for its return is September 2019, which would mark the first time the show has aired just one season a year since its very first season in the summer of 2005.

The remaining 44 percent of you would rather “Dancing” cut down to once a year. After an underwhelming season with probably the most polarizing winner ever, it might be time for the show to take a breather. It can spend some time brainstorming tweaks and get some distance from Season 27. But with one installment a year, there’s more pressure to deliver a good season. The other downside is fans might forget about the show if it’s gone for so long… or maybe they’ll miss it even more and come back in droves.

I've received enough YES votes to keep things alive around here. I'm glad...I enjoy it!

So....here is the latest news on #28!

ABC is returning to the dance floor. Recently, host Tom Bergeron revealed the network has renewed Dancing with the Stars for a 28th season. Hosted by Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews, the competition series pairs celebrities with professional ballroom dancers. The most recent season just wrapped on November 19th.

On Twitter, Bergeron revealed ABC has ordered another season of Dancing with the Stars for 2019 but don’t expect it to premiere this spring.

If they keep bringing in the old timers - there just may be a funeral on there.

Keep Derek and Mark and sis away. So much better without them. Especially since more and more fans are saying how they enjoy not having them on.
It does prove that there are other FANTASTIC pro's who can do choreographs and not just the same one person all the time.

Would love to have Max and Val competing against each other again.
Miss seeing them together when they have the pros do the special dances.

Show the number of votes each contestant receives and make sure that the contestant who got the lowest judges score goes home- not the one getting 10's.

I will take each day as it comes.
