Ben Browder was at our local convention this year. He spoke a little bit about Stargate, some about Farscape. I really should have posted right after the convention because I don't recall much now. I have a licensed Rygel doll from Farscape and got Ben to sign across his belly. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.

Been away from Spark again, gonna try to get back more often.

Drat! I hoped to be able to report a SG-1 encounter, but it looks like a false alarm. There's a movie company that's doing some filming at my work place and I had seen an e-mail about some filming at our parent campus (a movie called 'The Historian', a vampire flick, I think). Anyway, Colin Cunningham is supposed to be in it, and I kept a lookout. But it turned out that it was another movie that was filming at my location. I don't know if there are any 'name' people in this one. I'll report if there is a 'Major Davis' sighting anywhere in my part of the country!

That's great! Keep posting your convention 'encounters'. I love to read about them. I'm a big 'Fringe' fan (although I started watching it late--I never saw the first season) and would love to meet John Noble.

I wonder if Kavan Smith (Lorne from SG, some-other-character on an SG-Atlantis episode or two, currently playing Deputy Andy on 'Eureka') is making the convention circuit? He would be popular.

I'd love to see Richard Dean Anderson at a convention, but I think (from rdanderson.com) that he limits his appearances these days to those that raise money for charity.

Since I just went to a convention, I thought I'd start a thread where anyone can post convention memories and/or other encounters with our Stargate peeps.

Starfest (Starland com)in Denver is my annual geek weekend. It is usually the same weekend as the big Creation entertainment convention in Vancouver, so we don't always get the SG guests we'd like to. For David Hewlett/McKay fans: it's also near our hero's birthday, so I don't have as much hope as I'd like that he'll ever make it here. This year, Jewel Staite (Dr Jennifer Keller) and John Noble were the only guests who had done SG. John Noble is better known as Walter Bishop on Fringe and Denethor in the Lotr movies, but he did have a guest spot on Stargate. Both were good speakers.

Jewel is known of course for Firefly, and she said she's still very close with that cast, but she did say that Paul McGillion is one of her closest friends, and she still talks to David Hewlett. I asked her about the State of Syn project she and David are in together: it's an interactive comic app or some such. Unfortunately she didn't really understand what they're doing with it. It was filmed as in front of a green screen, and David is a bad guy, but that's about all she said. She was plugging her new show on the CW: LA Complex.

John Noble was an articulate, warm, and very polite guest. He thoughtfully answered all questions. Most were either about Fringe or about Lord of the Rings.

I didn't have any particular close encounters with any of the guests this year, but one person thanked Jewel Staite for hanging out at the hotel bar with the fans Saturday night. That certainly sounds consistent from the jibes David Hewlett makes about her drinking. One fan brought her some wine. She was thrilled.

The other guests this year were Jonathan Frakes, Robert O'Reilly, and JG Hertzler from Star Trek; Dee Wallace, and David Prowse. Those were the headliners anyway.

If anyone is interested, I was thinking I'd post more of my convention memories here. SG people I've gotten to see are Christopher Judge, Michael Shanks, Joe Flannigan, Rachel Luttrell, Robert Picardo, Andee Frizzell, Connor Trineer, Gary Jones, Teryl Rothery, Tony Amendola, Cliff Simon... if there's others I don't remember. They are trying to get Amanda Tapping next year. Oh, Dean Devlin was at a con a long time ago, too.

Anyway, I'd love to read of anyone else's experiences with meeting/seeing SG people, so post!

:)
