I thought I was the only one that didn't like Battlestar Galactica, thank goodness someone else thought it was crap. I don't think I have seen a program with so may dour faces, it was like watching the dentist at work. Why don't these writers inject a little fun into the programs, they seem to have no problem sticking in nookie so why not some good plots and fun?

I will give it a chance, but I'm not a happy camper right now. I watch sci-fi channel for science fiction, not a soap opera. I can barely tolerate Battlestar Galactica. If it has even close to that "character complexity", I'll cancel my sattelite subscription.

I thought I read soemthing about how it's gonna be a little more "mainstream" and a little less sci-fi ish. Something with more character development. Maybe like Sci-Fi's combining stargate, with more of a battlestar feel (meaning with the character development). Kinda funny how each of the shows(Atlantis, and battlestar) are ending after this season, like they are combining each of then for their next "super show!"

lol, I don't care as long as it's stargate!!!! SUUCCCHHH a junkie!

Now that you mentioned it, it does sound like a ST:Voyager slash "To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before" type of thing.

I hate when I see other Scifi show in anothers plot emoticon

When I read the plot synopsis the first thing that popped into my mind was ST: Voyager. (The ship is unable to return to Earth and that they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny.) I'm hoping they don't pick up any dorky aliens in whatever galaxy they happen to be in.

One would think, that they would have announced this before announcing the cancellation of Atlantis.

Michael

PS - I'll see if they said who the stars will be

This sounds pretty good, hopefully with a new set of baddies that could change so they don't get stale. Let's hope the brainiacs leave it on for a few years.

This explains everything! Michael

SCI FI Channel announced that it has given a green light to produce Stargate Universe, the third series in the long-running SF franchise, with production on the MGM Television Entertainment show set to begin in early 2009.

Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, co-creators of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, will serve as executive producers and writers on the new show. (Atlantis ends its five seasons next year but will continue in a two-hour telefilm.)

"SCI FI has enjoyed tremendous success with Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, and we're proud to be the home of the new Stargate Universe," Mark Stern, executive vice president, original programming for SCI FI, said in a statement. "Universe will continue the Stargate legacy of vibrant storylines and compelling adventures, but will re-invent the format in a whole new way."

After unlocking the mystery of the Stargate's ninth chevron, a team of explorers travels to an unmanned starship called the Destiny, launched by the Ancients at the height of their civilization as a grand experiment set in motion but never completed.

What starts as a simple reconnaissance turns into a never-ending mission as the Stargate Universe crew discovers that the ship is unable to return to Earth and that they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny.

The crew will travel to the far reaches of the universe, connecting with each of the previously launched Stargates, thus fulfilling the Destiny's original mission.

Stargate Universe will debut as a two-hour movie event on SCI FI. Following its premiere, Universe will assume a regular hourly slot in the summer of 2009.
