Wow! Thanks for posting that. I was just at the MN State Fair last night. And this year I had a different attitude going in. As I walked past all the food booths I'd wonder how many calories were in them and how many fat grams. I limited myself to a cashew nut roll (which I know was not a good choice but had to have it), a falafel (it was my new food to try - not bad) and a blackberry shake from the dairy building. Yum!

With summer's last "hurrah" going on, there are a lot of last min fairs, festavils going on. Found this and thought it was interesting...and a bit sad! LOL! *sniff* good bye funnel cakes and corn dogs!!!

Fattening Fair Foods

These three foods simply aren't fair to your diet.

1. Funnel Cakes. This Dutch delicacy has always been a crowd favorite. Unfortunately, deep-fried dough covered in powdered sugar comes at a pretty big price—approximately 760 calories and 44 grams of fat. It may be fun to watch this dessert being prepared, but you should probably stand a few feet back to avoid being tempted by this diet-wrecking pastry.
2. Peanut-Coated Caramel Apple. It's made of fruit and peanuts, so it has to be healthy, right? Not quite. This sugary treat can add up to around 400 calories and 10 grams of fat—not to mention the mess it'll leave on your fingers.
3. Giant Turkey Legs. If you're on a low-carb, high-fat diet, this could be the food for you—but at more than a pound of meat, it seems almost an inhuman portion of turkey. Composed of dark meat and covered in fatty skin, giant turkey legs weigh in at about 1,136 calories and 54 grams of fat. You should definitely think twice before gobbling this one down.
4. Deep-Fried Oreos. Yes, they really are as unhealthy as they sound. And no, you won't be able to just eat one. But even if you did, you'd still be flirting with a diet disaster. Just one of these cookies boasts 98 calories and 5.7 grams of fat.
5. Deep-Fried Snickers. What will they think of next? This deep-fried chocolate bar comes in at 444 calories and 29 grams of fat, making it a definite diet saboteur.
6. Deep-Fried Twinkies. These yellow-hued pastries aren't exactly known for their health benefits. So, what is the damage of a deep-fried Twinkie? A whopping 420 calories and 34 grams of fat. If you want to keep any semblance of a diet, do yourself a favor, and stay away from Twinkies—in any form.
7. Corn Dogs. You may be walking while you eat them, but the extra exercise won't help you with these puppies, coming in at 375 calories, 21 grams of fat, and 1,170 milligrams of sodium apiece.
8. Nachos. What kind of cheese is not yours? As the joke goes, "Na-cho cheese," and considering a plate of nachos has about 861 calories, 59 grams of fat, and 1,810 milligrams of sodium, you should probably keep it that way.
9. Chili Cheese Fries. Is the most damaging culprit in this food the sodium, calories, or fat? The jury's still out. Just one plate of chili cheese fries has over half of your daily serving of sodium—1,540 milligrams—as well as 745 calories and 45 grams of fat.

Becky, I'm so jealous. Hope you have a lot of fun! emoticon

I'm probably going to go to the Minnesota State Fair at the end of August. I'm going to indulge in some bad food while I'm there because that's the only place I ever eat deep-fried anything. However, I won't be eating exclusively bad food; I'll have some good things too like strawberries. I'm slightly allergic to strawberries but if I eat just a few and then don't have any at all for a month before and a month after, I won't have any problems.

I've never been to a convention before, so I'm not really sure what to expect. I hope I don't get lost! emoticon

It's a good motivation for me to be under 200 lbs by the time we leave. emoticon

Wow - how cool! emoticon

Selling out in 10 minutes - so glad you got tickets. I've been to Montreal but not Vancouver. I've heard it is a wonderful city!

I checked out the Gatecon site. Looks like a fun convention. I always thought that Corin Nemec (Jonas Quinn) was a cutie. Cliff Simon (Baal) would be fun to meet. He is sexy in a bad boy kind of way. Gary Jones (Walter Harriman) seems like the type of guy with whom you could just sit down and talk. Fun, fun, fun!

The last time I was at a sci-fi convention was in Blackpool, England for a Babylon 5 convention. It was a lot of fun!! (It just so happened that the convention was happening at the same time as our honeymoon so we definitely had to go.)

I'm going to Gatecon in Vancouver. emoticon I thought I had mentioned it in the group, but it's probably a lost thread somewhere, lol.

Last year when the news came out that RDA was actually going to attend Gatecon this year, my husband emoticon said we would make sure I got to go!! How cool is my husband that he doesn't mind me drooling all over RDA ?! emoticon

So anyway, we sat at the computer on Jan. 12th, counting down the minutes until the tickets went on sale. I was so nervous we weren't going to be fast enough! (They sold out in ten minutes flat)!

Since then we have been saving money like crazy to make it a great vacation for the both of us. We just finalized plane tickets, hotel room, and all that stuff.

I'm doubly excited because I've never been to Canada and I think it will be awesome!

Good job avoiding temptation!! emoticon

The Iowa State Fair started on Thursday with, of all things, an effort to set the world record for the most people simultaneously eating corn dogs! emoticon

We probably won't have an opportunity to go because there's just a lot of stuff going on right now. Including the tiny little fact that I'm getting ready to go to Canada! Eeek!! We leave on the 20th! Can you tell I'm a little excited? emoticon

I just hope I don't fall over and faint when I meet RDA. Or jump on his lap or something, lol!!

Yesterday, I took my daughter and nephews to our county fair. The kids had fun on pony rides and the midway rides. Of course when you're at the fair you have a bazillion bad food choices. Normally my husband and I split an order of deep fried cheese curds but this year we skipped it. I ordered a large cup of fresh strawberries and cream. It was delicious and hit the spot.

Anyone else going to any local fairs this summer?
