I seem to recall my mom also keeping me away from televised showings of certain horror films like Amityville Horror and the exorcist

Unfortunately my dad was overly permissive by Jr. High on what I watched.

My parents did a pretty good job of keeping us away from "forbidden" movies. We didn't have cable, my parents escorted us to the movies, and bedtime was pretty strictly enforced until jr. high. The highlight of my week was staying up "late" to watch The Love Boat and Fantasy Island...

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.” -John Lennon

There were certain sexual acts that we were not allowed to watch when we were kids, but once they were over, we were allowed back into the room, so no whole movie was off limits, just sections of it.

My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And together we'll change the world. All my very best, Jack Layton.

My cousin shoo'ed me up the stairs during certain parts of risky business.

I can't remember not being allowed to watch certain things because they were "forbidden" so much as they were past my bedtime and so that took care of any issues of what I was watching. :-)

Here's a poll I saw in the Spark Cafe that I thought was really interesting. What movie were you forbidden to see when you were young ? Did you find a way to sneak in anyway ?

I'm going to date myself, but my family wouldn't let me see JAWS. they said I was too young and the movie was too scary.

How about you folks ?
