I'm actually envious of those of you who will be running! Maybe one day I'll regain my fitness enough that I can actually enjoy running, too.

We are having a traditional Thanksgiving Day dinner at my SIL's house. She modifies all the traditional foods to make them gluten, soy, and dairy free ... or at least those that I will eat. Like many I will watch my portions.

T-Day dinner has made me sick so many times over the years, probably because of my allergies. So, I tend to eat cautiously because I hate to be uncomfortable.

I've been debating about running in the 4 mile Gobble Gobble Gobble run. However, my leg is still kinda "iffy". So I may sit this year out.

Otherwise, I'll hit the gym early in the morning. Then I'm off to my sister in law's sister's home. Most of the family will be there. Last year, my brother had to work. Hopefully he has this year off.

I'll tell you, the dinner is always extremely healthy with tons of different veggie dishes along with the turkey. My downfall ? the desserts. My family is firm in the belief that there should be more desserts than there are people to eat them ! Because heaven forbid that there is not enough food !

I do not have too much control on the food plan either since it is at my friends mom's house but I do plan on bringing at least one dish.

But I think for me the big ticket is going to be treating like any other day. right now I have been working to eat 5-6 small meals per day so that I do not over eat at any one meal. Well years ago when I was a child the tradition was we didnt eat anything until turkey time. And of course by doing that I was hungry hungry hungry and of course my eyes were bigger than my plate and stomach and I would load everything onto my plate and try to shovel it in.

So this year I am going to eat my small meals up until dinner time and that way hopefully I can choose a sample of everything but I will have everything in moderation and not over eat.

there will be some sort of running involved... although not necessarily in a race proper - can't afford the fees. boo.

Maybe there will be sleeping too. I don't do anything else for it, as I have no family nearby. which is by far, the easiest way to avoid overeating!

i will go to my mother's for the actual day. food will be traditional fare. i will be bringing some cranberry relish (automatically low in fat) and probably some hummus with pita chips for an appetizer. those will be the only control i have. but like vicki says...it's just one day. i'll watch my portions and enjoy the company.

the day after thanksgiving we will be going to old sturbridge village for their day after buffet (http://www.osv.org/activities_events/even
t_calendar_more.html?ID=586&DateID=1234) with my b's family. i'm excited for that!

My mother and one of my sisters has to work on Turkey day. I plan on making a meal here and having my daughters over. I will make enough to send home with Mother so she, grams and babysis can still have turkey day too.

I have not planned out the menu but I am sure most of it will be traditional. :) Its one day and I don't make changes to the recipes since the rest of my family is of normal weight.

So I am starting to plan now for Turkey day. It is not that far away but I figure if I start thinking of items to take to my friends house that are lower in fat, calories, etc it will help me stay on plan.

What are you doing for turkeyday? emoticon
