"Do people remember what it used to be like years ago when all we had were answering machines at home, not even voice mail, nor call waiting!"

Yep. That was when you'd breeze in to work at 8:10 am and find 5 people camped out in your cubicle waiting for you to fix the mess your program made overnight that you were blissfully unaware of.

Nowadays, I have a monitor program that sends me e-mail when it looks like there might be a problem, and when it's convenient, I can log in from home, fix the problem, roll back bad transactions, roll forward, and restart production, so that no one but me ever knows that there was a problem in the first place.

I'd rather be forewarned, and have a chance to fix things, than be beset upon the moment I arrive at work.

However, one must also be polite. When my phone rings, before answering, I always ask the people I'm with if they mind if I break for a couple minutes to talk to someone much more stimulating and interesting than they are. :)

It always blows my mind when someone is in the bathroom on the phone.

I'm at the point too, where I am so tired of people always texting, or answering the phone every time it rings. Not everything can be an emergency.

Do people remember what it used to be like years ago when all we had were answering machines at home, not even voice mail, nor call waiting!

Pet peeves of mine!

Lappy in the bathroom? Ish. Guess that's one way to keep people from wanting you use your compy.

No, but my son takes his laptop to the bathroom. Then, he wonders why it quits working...

I still don't see what's so important that a person needs to use the cell while using the facilities. It's bad enough that I have to listen to people while at the grocery store.

"Honey, Ragu isn't on sale. Do you want Classico instead ? Yes, I remembered the bread."

Jeepers, if you're going to have a conversation let it be one I WANT to hear ! Example, how about the hubby talking to the mistress ? How about his wife chatting about the new pool boy ?

Come one, no mundane chit chat. If you're going to talk so that everyone can hear you, let's have the dirt !

Done. Even fixed the typo.

Obviously, everyone is different, but it seems to me if you use one hand for the phone, and the other for the... uh... paperwork, your phone wouldn't be any worse for wear. So for me, it's not the idea of using the phone that puts me off, it's more the rudeness of violating the social contract to keep quiet in the restroom. And, to a slightly lesser extent, the rebroadcast, without prior written consent, of my performance art. (I didn't actually write that, did I? I just thought it, right?)

Oh, I am soooooo happy Bob is back ! I missed his witty essays ! that was hilarious. Bob, you have to post that in the other thread. the members will love it.

You know, several people brought that up. How hygenic is it for a person to use their cell phone in the bathroom and then not wash their hands !

Oh, man... I am so not touching other people's cell phones now. NASTY !

Yeah, it's just a little creepy when you're standing there mindin' your business, and someone behind you suddenly says, "Hey! How's it goin'?"

"Well, it's a little bashful, but I find that if I calculate a geometric sequence in my head, then--"

"Yeah, I just got off the phone with Larry, he's gonna fax me his TPS report right away..."

"Larry? Who's Lar--"

"Of *course* I'll use the new cover sheet for it! I *got* the memo!"

Hate that. Absolutely hate it. Of course, there was that one time when I walked into the restroom to discover someone have an animated, albeit somewhat one-sided conversation with his urinal. Took me a second to realize he was using a hands-free headset. I about lost it, though, when he was silent for a long moment, then said in a peeved voice, "I'm handling it, OK? I have a firm grasp on it, and if you think I'm letting it go, you're very much mistaken, my friend."

I couldn't help but snicker at that, and I think the guy thought I was some kind of weirdo. He abruptly rang off and left the room.

Without washing his filthy, filthy hands.

Nope. I hate it when I am talking to someone and then you "hear" what they are doing. LOL

LOL

I don't make calls in the bathroom, but have answered the phone a time or two. I just hate it and usually just call them back when I get out (rather than answer)

I have had a few times where someone was in a stall chatting away. Once or twice it took me a minute to figure out they were on the phone - lol

I am not a fan of the speaking on the phone in the bathroom!

I think once or twice I had an urgent call I'd been waiting for and my phone rang... so I asked them to hold, muted the phone, finished and then stepped out.

There are a number of people in this building who just chat away,.. "omg, and then I was totally like, nuh-huh (flush) and she was just like so rude..."

really? Not only do they need to hear you peeing in the background, but I have to listen to this too?

I take mine with me but don't talk on it. Most bathrooms tend to have an echo effect. emoticon
And I really don't want people to know my business while I'm doing my business, if you know what I mean ! emoticon

Hey, folks ! So, I asked this question in the Spark Cafe and the results have been hilarious. You'd be surprized how many are galled at the thought of talking and how many think it's perfectly fine.

Anyway, do you use the cell phone when you're in the bathroom ? The reason I ask is because twice this week at work, I've heard two people talking on their cells while doing their business.

What was so important that it couldn't wait for a few minutes ?
