LOL - what are the chances? hehe. I'm sitting here drinking me some licorice root tea as I open this thread to read it.

I like licorice, but it's hard to find. Even the candy is usually artificially flavored.

BTW, is anise and licorice related? I see anise used to add licorice type flovor ... and the anise cookies are good too emoticon

Legume consumer that I am, I don't know that I have ever seen the bean pods from a licorice plant. I don't think they would taste like what we think of licorice. We make candy and tea from the root. For candy, we usually use anise to strengthen the flavor.

I love licorice root tea. When you first sip it, it gives a little licorice flavor, but no sweetness. Then, after you swallow it, there is a lingering sweetness on your tongue. It is an odd sensation!

That licorice is considered a legume ? I didn't know that. A member posted a question in the nutrition forum asking what is considered a legume. Well, another member posted this link to a list of veggies classified as legumes.

It's really fascinating. check it out.
