One thing that I find helps me is drinking some hot green tea in the evening in front of the tv. It's good for me, gets my tea in for the day, and helps me not to snack. Plus, it helps me sleep better.

emoticon ideas! Another idea is to start a streak. See how many days in a row you can go without the snacking or at least snacking on something healthy or less than 100 calories, etc. Choose a goal and go for it!

Late evening is my most difficult time to avoid snacking. Usually I want something salty like sour cream and onion potato chips or sweet like chocolate.

I've stopped buying potato chips but my husband is a potato chip-a-holic so he will often buy them since I don't.

Lately my downfall has been Hershey's chocolate bars. I've found that if I just eat a piece instead of the whole thing, that my craving is satisfied. That way I don't have to deny myself but I'm not eating as many calories/fat as I would normally.

I have been getting apples lately and snacking on them more often. I'd forgotten how good a fresh apple tastes!

I've found that I will very rarely actually go to the trouble to measure out portions even though I know I should. So now I try and buy snacks that are already pre-packaged like 100 calorie packs. This way it's very clear how much I've eaten. Sometimes snacks are a little more expensive this way but its definitely worth it for me.

Popcorn is my biggest night time snack. I found that when I switched to the single serving low fat kind I was just as satisfied as when I ate an entire bag of movie butter popcorn. I found that if I seasoned it with Mrs Dash and/or Molly McButter it really added to the flavor. Not the same as movie butter popcorn, but really good just the same. It had come to the point where the kids wanted to eat out of MY bowl instead of theirs sometimes!

Have you tried any of the 100 calorie snacks? There's chips, cookies, snack mix, animal crackers and crackers. They taste pretty good.

What I do when I want a snack I get an apple. Yes I do want chips or some kind of bread produce. I know that most of you don't like apples, but you can get anything that is healthy for you instend of something that is bad for you.

Snacking in front of the tv or computer is /killer/, and it's something I have to fight against too. First, I try to determine if I'm /really/ hungry or if I just feel like snacking. If I'm genuinely hungry I'll get out something that either comes in a pre-packaged small portion (string cheese, 100 calorie bag, etc). No matter how hungry I think I am, I only take one. Then, if I still want more when that's gone, I reconsider the matter. Still hungry? Okay, I'll go get another. Just feel like snacking? No more for me.

I find that having a project to work on helps me a lot too. If I'm in front of the tv, I'll either use this time to exercise (or at least stretch) so that I'm not just sitting there, wishing I had something to do. Otherwise I'll crochet or work on some other sort of craft. If I'm in front of my computer, I fiddle around with photoshop or play a game.

I find the urge to snack more or less goes away once I'm fully engaged in something else.

Brush your teeth. I find it's hard for me to give in when I've already brushed because then I'd have to brush my teeth all over again and floss and rinse.

I've gotten out of the habit of mindlessly snacking and will actually measure out a portion of whatever snack so I can at least keep track of it. If I have to get up and take the snacks back out and measure out again, I'm a lot more likely to stop than if I just grab the bag and sit down with it.

Minions! I need minions! Barring that, I'll take a non fat sugar free chai latte.

Have you tried the lean cuisine pannini's? I love the chicken club and have that often for lunch. I don't put the two sides together and it seems like I get more. Plus some fruit and a salad.

We have a no eating in the living room rule at our house. This has cut back on my eating in front of the tv. I am currently eating lunch in front of the computer and breakfast is usually here too. But I did complete the whole setting up shop as adviced by Spark. I also measure out portions before putting anything on my plate!! I cook for one for lunch, so often it is a Healthy Choice or Lean Cuisine entree but if I cook, I reduce the recipe to one serving or make something simple but nutritious like a baked potato with low fat cheese and lean meat. Usually have a serving of fruit with that too.

Yes, it is hard to stop when you start. They are very habit forming and then you feel so awful afterward. Try to get rid of those things that are tempting and replace them with crunchy good stuff, like fruits and vegetables. Bad habits don't change over night so give yourself time and you will get through it.

One of my fast break goals is to not eat in front of the TV. For the most part, I've stopped eating supper in front of the TV, but I still find myself in the snack cupboard in the evening or don't even realize that I'm snacking until after I've already eaten half a package of chips.

Part of the problem is that I had a plan for yesterday evening, but the plans fell through. Then I just automatically fell back into poor eating habits. I snacked away (chips and chocolate) and ate entirely too much supper.

I think that I need to clean out the kitchen and get rid of those tempting things that I love, but that are SO bad for me (chips, chocolate) and find appropriate replacements.

Well, Dr. Phil would say don't eat in front of the TV or computer. Because it becomes mindless and pretty soon you have eaten a whole bag of something. I use to have a problem with eating pretzels late at night in front of the computer. I stopped myself by not buying pretzels and going to bed earlier. Is there a certain food that you are having trouble with? Do you measure out a serving in a bowl and stop there? Do you do any crafts that you could do while watching TV that will keep you busy instead of eating?

Does anyone else have problems with snacking/binging in the evening, especially in front of the TV? How do you put the reins on yourself?
