Thanks Linda. I agree. And this pastor has a lot to learn. We are a conservative congregation and he has come in with some liberal views that a lot of us retired military dont agree with. And our church is full of veterans. Bringing it into the pulpit isn't a really good thing to do. Our previous minister was there almost 30 years and it was time for him to go. At some point, they lose their effectiveness.

Bev, your hubby is doing well! Do you need more pink scraps? I used up a bunch with stitch pink but the bin is still full.

I'm not sure these workers are going to finish this job in two weeks. If they don't our grands will be here. And next week is only 4 days as Monday is a holiday. I think they are fishing for wires in my room as some went sideways and broke. So they wlll have to take out more sheetrock to find it. What a mess.

I keep looking at all the stuff that is supposed to go in my room and it is ridiculous. Why dont I get rid of some of it. Please ask for scraps if you need any.

On another note, I hooked up Platypus and nearly finished the little boy quilt. Had trouble with thread breaking and 2 needle breaks and finally figured out the tension on my bobbin was too tight. Got that fixed and moving along. Carol

On Thursday, I helped my 7 year old granddaughter make a dress. I took the kids home on Friday morning and stayed an watched them while my DS and DIL went to a checkup and see the ultrasound. They know the sex of the baby, but aren't telling right now.

Yesterday, we went and saw some friends off as they have sold their house and moving out of state.

This morning, we ran errands. This afternoon, I worked on deconstructing clothes and making two sample blocks from scraps for a memory quilt. Afterwards I mowed the lawn.

My husband is on vacation for the next week.

Carol, I know what you mean about workers looking like babies. This sounds like a great time to finish up the UFOs. Linda is right, the church is more than the pastor and the family should stick together. He won't be there forever.

Julie, you have been busy, too. The "flower sheep" sound interesting.

Pam, sorry to hear DH is having foot problems. It's hard to do anything when your feet hurt.

Got in a nice walk with hubby this morning. He made it 1/2 mile, but I finished my 1.5 miles. Did some more sorting in the sewing room and finished sewing strips together. Don't have enough strips to finish the pink jelly roll, but what I have are sewn together and can be added to. Also did laundry and washed the last of my batik fabric. Man, these are really overdyed and require multiple washings. We did another walk this afternoon. Once again hubby did his 1/2 mile and I did the rest. At least he is out and about and that is helping with his cabin fever.

Hi all! I have been gone a while, but really it wasn't all that much time, but you are all so busy.

Carol, you will be glad to have that wiring done. I would have asked for extra outlets in my sewing room!

Linda, please send some cool weather my way and we really need rain. We have not had any rain in over 28 days. The grass is brown and crunchy. Plus our irrigation loop isn't working for our area, so I am dragging a hose every 3 days to water shrubs so they don't die.

Bev, your hubby will be up and running soon. He is doing very well, I think.

WG, hope all are feeling better now.

Carrie, hope the knee gets fixed soon.

Julie, wish it was cooler here, we have been so hot, ugh.

Meg, I dislike when I screw up appointments. Glad you have a new queen bee.

My hubby is having a hard time with his foot and his boot. Yesterday it was very painful for him. I got all my fabric cut for my Mystery Quilt class June 1-4 so that is plus. Still have not worked on that table runner, but that is the 1st thing on my list after church.

We have had a quiet day at home.

DH has been getting a pen ready to move the broiler chickens to bigger space. Our neighbor returned the plough and disc he bowered for getting the garden ready. We need to get ftront door painted so he can help us put in.

I cut out the parts for my sheep quilt. I need to cut 10 inch squares for back ground, and strips for the block borders. I also cut the flowers using my Accuquilt. My friend got me 3 embroidery patterns that turn the flowers into sheep. I am taking them along to the retreat. Val can help me if I need it. I am slowly getting things around for next weekend. I also started sewing my piano key border.

I am going out to barn and see the animals before I sit down to knit.

Have a good evening.

Julie

Good for you Carol! Sounds like a lot is getting accomplished. And good for you for not giving up on your church just because of the minister. It's always going to be your church. He won't be there forever.

Two young men showed up at our home this week to work on our rewire. When I first looked at them, I swore they just graduated from high school. But turns out they are 25 and 29 and really hard workers! They work from the minute they show up till the time they leave with lunch. We are finding our kitchen is already rewired with copper due to its "new" renovation 30 yrs ago. Golden oak cabinets are still going strong! And a wall and likely some other things that have been changed out so maybe it will finish quickly than anticipated. I can go in and sew on platypus today and knock out quilting something.

The grands arrive on June 6 and I managed to book a timeshare locally for 3 nights at one of the nicest condos on the beach. We are all going to stay there and dogs going to kennel. Son has rented a fishing boat for the boys and hubby. That will be fun for them. I get to have a day with Evelyn after she finishes pitching a fit. We'll go to a nail salon, the pool, out to dinner, etc. She only likes McDonald's.

I continue to go through bins and boxes. Its really bad with the paltry bits I throw out. I need to find a use for all these strips I keep saving. At least they are now orderly and I reminded myself what I have. I found the parts of a stitch and fold candle wreath already cut out and interfaced. I need to finish it up for the church sale in October. If we have any members left. People have left because they don't like the new minister. Its been a real struggle this past year. We arent sure about him either but not willing to leave our church family Hope it improves. Carol

Carol, it's wonderful what you can accomplish when there is a plan and everyone works together. Sounds like they may finish your house before the grands arrive. Enjoy the beach, I hope we get to go this year.

WG, so sorry the stomach bug has hit your family. You are so right about the dog test. The cooler contraption sounds interesting.

Julie, I am so thankful our temps are going down for the weekend, too.

Ginny, glad you are getting in some adventures. The cave looks interesting.

Today has been warm, but windy. Had a bit of rain last night, and a nice little thunderstorm this evening. Did some work in the flowerbeds this morning and a friend and his DGD came for a visit and to to check on DH. Took him to PT after lunch and hung out at a local coffee shop. Avoided the goodies and only had a plain coffee. Got in a walk when we got back and hubby joined me for the last part. We were sitting on the swing when the rain started, so hustled in and finished making dinner. Hope to do some sewing tomorrow.

Our temps went from high 80 to mid 40 over night. We are supposed to be in the mid 60 for the weekend.

I cleaned off one book shelf and got my new in its place and filled today. I also cut my strips for the piano key boarder. I hope to get my sheep blocks cut out tomorrow.

Have a good evening.

Hi Quilters. It is a beautiful warm day. No rain, but it is what it is and I'm grateful for good weather this weekend. The Gunslinger is suffering a stomach bug and has thrown up several times. He's not afraid of me like my kids were. They knew better than to throw up on the carpet. That's nasty. I'll have to take the rug outside and clean it. It needs a good cleaning anyway. Maybe next week.

SIL is in town and I felt bad that she couldn't come and visit. I would have liked to meet her beau one on one. The girls like him so he's probably good. It is the dog test that is the acid one.

Thanks Carol. It is an interesting pattern. I could see it with a darker background or something, but it is beautiful as it is and I have plenty of white.

I'm glad that the wiring is getting done. Hopefully you will be back into the sewing room soon. The grands will be fine with the chaos. I'm sure they will tell their mom and it will become a "thing" but that is life. It will be nice to have things rearranged and peaceful for you to create in over the next few months. It is interesting how we always need new challenges and ways to be creative.

Julie, how nice that you have been able to get out and do some things. It has to feel good getting things done.

Bev, I'm glad DH is doing well. He will bounce back quickly. Being in the middle makes it not as quick as you think it might be, but it is really coming along. I have a cooler and a circulating pump on the lid. It leads to a hose and pad that sends chilled water to the area needing to be cooled. I got one for each knee and they do help a lot. My oldest son has one and may take my other one as his knees are getting bad. I was his age when mine started going and the first few years were pretty awful.

I'm glad your DGSs are doing such a good job of helping out. I'm sure they enjoy being helpful as well. I'm sure your Mom enjoyed hearing Happy Birthday sung by her descendants.

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time with the insurance. I'm thinking I'll order my next pair of glasses online. They are cheaper than even with the discounts from insurance. It will be a bit, though.

Carrie, how fun to teach your DGD how to sew a dress. I know Princess Sofia who will be 9 in July would love to sew a dress. She made one for her marionette for school. She has good instincts and skills. It is interesting to see how differently the girls are learning. They boys are similar. I'm looking forward to teaching the boys a well.

I'm glad you were able to save the hexie quilt and can get it back to the family. Sometimes those are the quilts that touch your heart. I'm sure that it will be treasured.

I'm sorry you are icing your knee. It will be soon and you will be able to heal. It is miserable not being able to sleep. I remember the days well.

Ginny, it is so fun to have new discoveries in genealogy. It is hard to put the work away even if your eyes cross with the strain. I'm sure you will be blessed for putting things in;order.

I'm off to make lunch for Enterprise. He's not sick yet. I also need to make sure that the Gunslinger is drinking. I don't care if he throws up, drinking is important in preventing dehydration.

I may get to the sewing room but I need to get the hide and seek for the cemetery done first. It will be very fun to see the kiddos do their searching. I bring cookies and bottled water as it will be warm. It is a fun time for all. We sometimes visit for a couple of hours depending on who comes.

Have a great day.

Bev, I dont know how you had time to work! Too busy with retirement things!

Ginny a long weekend sounds so nice. I'll be cleaning.

We had arts and crafts at church yesterday and it was so much fun! There were 5 of us working on projects and we laughed and laughed. I made 20 wine sleeves out of shirts and two were working on ribbons to tie them. I set up a sewing machine, Mary did some embroidery and Robin ran around and kept the rest busy.

I think they are done with my room! Maybe a bit this morning but I can go back in and use platypus this weekend. Maybe we should go to the beach instead. I have progressed to cleaning out bins and folding items, consolidating them and putting back in neat stacks. Anyone want a box of scraps? Mostly smaller pieces. You get tired of looking at them. I could cut them into 2 1/2" strips but why? When I'm not interested in them anymore. I could send them to Jo Kramer but she is overwhelmed with scraps and she passes things on.

Yesterday I filled a shoe box with yellow/gold scraps! Its been fun going through all of this "stuff". My painter is coming next friday to fiix the sheetrock in my room and I"m going to beg him to find a time to paint it! Grandkids come on June 6 and we are putting the dogs in a kennel and going to the beach for 3 nights. I was able to get a timeshare reservation for those 3 nights which is such a bonus to us. they will still be working on the house a bit but moving to the finish line. I hope. Carrie, the hexi quiltis bautiful. You are one of the greatest grandmoms around.

Carol, you are gonna have a totally new home when you are through.

Ginny, looking at the computer all day can be very tiring. That is one thing I do not miss about working. Enjoy those mountains (or challenges as we used to call them).

Julie, glad temps have returned to normal. Today was much better for us, too.

Took hubby for a short walk this morning. After lunch I got my tetnus booster and went back to get my eye glasses. I asked if the computer was working and she said "I think so, it was yesterday". I said it wasn't when I was here, and she said "really?". So it was working, but said my insurance was cancelled in 2018, but the card says active date is 08, 2020. Nope BCBS insisted it was not active. So still no glasses. Hubby spent a good part of the afternoon getting all that sorted, and I think it's fixed now. Not that they pay much, but every little bit helps. I did some more sewing on the binding scrap quiltrs till the grands came and mowed the yard. New wheels for the push mower came last Friday, and oldest grand put them on for us. With both of them working it was knocked out in about 45 minutes. Got my afternoon walk in a bit later than usual and it was much cooler. I liked that.

Our heat has finally gone away. We are back to normal for this time of year. It has been raining.

I finished the crumb quilt top today. Now on to the piano key border. I still need to cut the fabric.

I am slowly getting my new computer up and running.

HOpe your knee feels better Carrie. 5 grands is a lot but I remind myself I will have 3 for 6 weeks come June 6. And one to visit occasionally.

Got a lot of use out of my serger yesterday and sewed up 3 backs for languishing tops. Not big ones but good to get the backs put together. One of them is boomerang which has been done for a while. They should be done with my room today but I need the painter to come and fix the sheetrock around the outlets and maybe I'll try to throw some paint on the wall. Won't move back in for several more weeks. I need to call the cable company to have a new outlet put in as I want to move the LR TV to another wall and re arrange things. Hubby is balking but son thinks it is a good idea.

I have a bin to take to the church today. I also created two bags, one from a panel, and will try to get them finished for the church sale. Its all good. Carol

Well, another week has passed and it has been a very busy one with grandkids and sewing. This week I have 5 grandkids having a sleepover. We are sewing and baking. Today, we made 7 batches of banana bread. I am teaching my 8 soon to be 9 year old granddaughter how to sew a dress.

I finished the hexie quilt makeover. I posted pictures in Show and Tell. It was a challenge to do. I had to take some blocks and move them. I redid one. Quilting it on the frame was quite interesting as I couldn't attach it to the bottom rail and had to leave it hanging down. I think it turned out well. I will deliver it on Friday.

I am up again in the middle of the night icing my knee. One way to catch up on posts as things get so hectic during the day.

Carol, what a great time to do a big purge. I bet it is like an Easter egg hunt in your sewing room. Prayers for your BIL.

Linda, he loves puns, so it's all good. Feel free to send us any rain you can't use.

Ginny, congrats on continuing your exercise streak.

WG, family storybooks are a wonderful idea. I may have to work on that, and a family trivia game. DH does have an ice machine (that would be me) and uses it after each exercise.

Julie, wow, you have been on the road a lot. I think you deserve a quiet sew day.

This morning I finished sewing down the binding on the second wall hanging, and took a short walk with hubby. We just walked to a neighbor's and then around the drive (we share a drive that makes a big circle). It was already warm and he was tired, but he enjoyed being outside. After lunch I tried to order my new eye glasses, but of course the computer was down and they couldn't use my insurance card. Don't know if I'll go back there or find some place else. Our selection is quite limited here. Had everyone for family night dinner, and it was loud and fun. Called mom and sang Happy BIrthday while the crowd was here.

Carol, It is good that they are started on your electrical work,

It seems we have been away from home of this week so far. Three trips into Madison has keep us busy. We left the house this morning by 8:30 this morning and didn't get home until 3:00. We started going north to a sporting good store my DH wanted to go to. Then to Village Creek Quilt shop in Lodi. Another sporting good store then finally back to Madison to pick up my computer.

I did start laundry and sewed for a while, We had a late lunch so I didn't need to worry about dinner. I finished my crumb blocks. I hope to put the blocks together tomorrow.

Have a great evening.

The electricians have come and nearly have two rooms done. My sewing room and son's room. Then I called my painter and he is going to try to come to repair the sheetrock around the outlets next week. Just need to get that room fixed as it is the room where the furniture needs help moving it.
I have been having fun finding old projects and sewing them up on the serger. I have two bags that need some straight sewing so we shall see on that. If they can get my sewing room done enough to be able to turn the electric back on, I can go in an use Platypus. I sewed a back together for a top and have two to quilt, or more. Carol

Hi Quilters. It is a beautiful sunny day here today. Should be warm and sunny for the weekend which is nice. I heard from a cousin who will meet me at the cemetery where my mom and most of her family are. I need to get some mums to place on the graves and print the treasure hunt for the grands. I have a group photo of several relatives and hopefully they will mostly be buried there. Cousin will be bringing story books he made with stories of our grandparents and family. They are for the children so they are simple and have photos. It should be fun to receive them.

Julie, how nice to have a machine for your sewing information. It will be easier to keep one near the place the work is being done. Hope DHs new shoes help. I'm a great believer in good shoes for walking. Lots of arch support.

Carol, good that you have things in the pod. It is hard to know what you can live without for now. Glad you are able to uses the serger for some work that still needs to be done. It is a never ending process. Hope you can get hold of the electrician and have him call you in the future or at least text when he is not coming or late. It would save the frustration for you.

I'm glad your friend has been in remission for a while. It is a good thing for her to have time in her life. I hope your BIL can get more time and be healthy enough to enjoy it. It is a hard thing to have one of those hard cancers. It will be hard for them to be in seclusion again after being out a little recently. It may even be harder for them. I'm sure they appreciate your support and love.

Bev, glad DH is getting around a little better.. It's nice that they are doing the same sorts of exercises but that is normal. They want him to do them at home so he can be stronger. It is nice to see the progress and improvement over time. Glad he got to be outside a bit and enjoy the fresh air. I'm sure he is tired of being stuck at home. I'm glad your eye doc appointment happened even though they were behind. I don't know that people understand how it is to wait. At least most doctors are getting better about that.

I like mile a minute quilts. They are fun to sew together.

Does DH have an "ice machine" to help his incision?

Ginny, so glad you got to watch Tangled. I love that movie. The grands love it as well. The girls got a princess Barbie when they were housebroken. Most of them picked Rapunzel for their doll. Don't know exactly why, but they did.

It is so fun watching the little ones grow and do. It is easier being the grandparent. Not the same amount of responsibility as raising your own and much more fun. I can just laugh when they misbehave or are stinkers. I also can be proud but not have to put in the work to get there.

Sewing will happen soon enough. It is busy having a little one. I will be back to baby care in the fall so it will be fun to see what happens.

Meg, wonder what happened with the dog? They can be sensitive to whatever is going on in the house. I'm glad he is not clinging any more today.

The road construction on DS's road will begin next month and continue for another couple of years expected to be finished in 2023. It will be nice when it is done but a mess until then. At least they have a good road to drive here as the other road into the town will be finished.

Linda, glad your shop is busy. It is good after the slow year you had before.

Off to lunch. May try to get a few things done in the sewing room but not likely today. The grands will be here soon. One more week of school then we shall see. It is up in the air what DS will be doing now that the office is returning to in person work. He will need to be in the office 4 days a week. That means more grandma time for the kids. I enjoy them and they have some things they need to be doing.

Have a great day.

Good morning quilters

We got our walk in yesterday through the rain drops. I'm still going strong on my 30 minutes a day exercise. At 517 days strong.

I still mean to get into my sewing room but life continues to intervene. No worries it will still be there when things calm down in other areas. That's what's great about our hobby!

Julie, many times new shoes do fix hurting knees. I've found that to be the key when my knees start hurting in Jazzercise. My hubby will go for a walk with me sometimes but right now we're in our busiest season and don't even try. Thankfully I still have Jazzercise and Barre (I prefer them over walking).

Bev, sounds like hubby is making great strides. (sorry for the pun)

Carol, did your contractor show up yesterday?

We got rain all night. Hopefully it will take the humidity away but will probably make it worse. On the good side, the corn in the field by the house looks like it grew 3 inches overnight!

Linda from Central Illinois

My March goals are:

1. Track more (at least 21 days)
2. Lose 2.1 pounds, at least. (I gained weight in February--this has to stop)
3. Continue to exercise 3 to 5 times a week
4. Work on organizing sewing room better.
5. Continue to put together my Grassy Creek tops and get ready to quilt them.
6. Quit mindless snacking.

Up early and could not sleep with all the stuff needing doing going around in my head. With the dismantling of my sewing room, I'm going through every bag and bin and discarding, filing or cutting into usable sizes. A good stack for the church is happening. I made a beautiful bag for the Hoffman challenge years back and decided to use it for hand work that I found in another bag and current cross stitch projects. Use what you have I say!

On another note, we went to visit sis and BIL last night. He has advanced stage multiple mylemona and they are heading to U of Arkansas on Sunday for 3 weeks of intensive stem cell replacement, chemo and whatever else they want to throw at him. The doctor said he is the oldest patient (75) he has ever had but Mickey is in good physical health otherwise with a great attitude to fight it so we are earnestly praying this will help reduce the tumors and head him towards some form of remission. I couldn't help but think this could possibly be the last time I saw him. We have taken great trips together and he has been a great BIL. I"ve known him since college. They will have to quarantine again until November. I have a friend at church who had this, went to Arkansas and is in remission in her 4th year. She talked with him.

So it is good for me to keep busy in my messy sewing room going through bags and bins. I'm going to move my serger into the LR today to keep it safe and maybe use it. Carol

Carol, you are so right about customer service. It can make or break a business. For someone currently without a sewing machine, you did a lot of sewing.

Ginny, we enjoyed Tangled, too. Those milestones are going to start coming faster and faster. I'm glad you are enjoying your life, that is a wonderful thing.

Meg, I'll have to remember to flood next time we find ground bees. Have any advice for carpenter bees? Sounds like your dog has been taking lessons from our cat. She sits and looks at you till you let her on your lap. Then she kneeds you and jumps down.

Julie, glad DH's new shoes are working and hope he goes for a walk. Enjoy your cooler temps.

Had an appointment with my eye doctor this morning. Sadly they were an hour behind (sure wish they would call and let you know). Had to dilate and get pics, so spent the rest of the day with my lovely and stylish dark glasses. Couldn't see well enough to sew, so decided to sort my batting scraps and leftover binding pieces. I now have piles of binding sorted by color and will sew them together Jelly Roll Race fashion and have some scrappy quilts. Hubby made a walk to the swing and enjoyed the outside while I did my afternoon walk.

We took my computer in to be set up this morning. Just got a call that it is ready. we will pick it up tomorrow.

DH said his knees weren't hurting as bad with his new shoes, so hopefully he will walk with me.

I made a label for a quilt and now we are going to watch a movie. Waiting for the storms to come in so the temperature will drop. It has been in the upper 80 the last few days. After the storm we are supposed to drop to the lower 70.

have a great afternoon.

Hey All!

Ginny - You really are in such a wonderful season of life. No obligations aside from the ones that you choose to take on. And getting to enjoy your babies enjoying their babies. Enjoy it.

WG - That's some great news about the road changes and your kids and grandkids having easier access to your house. How long is the construction supposed to take?

Julie - I hope that your husband decides to join you on walks. Mine flat out said no, which I don't really mind, though it would be nice on occasion.

Carol - That's so frustrating about the electrician no show, especially since you're kind of up against a time crunch. You're making some amazing progress on your projects in the meantime though. I hope the guy shows today and is able to get going.

Bev - That's good news about DH's recovery. Flooding the ground did work. It took about 2 days. The bees had moved about 10 feet and dug back in. And so my dad put the hose on that area too and they left. By the time the exterminator showed up, he told my dad that he didn't need him.

Yesterday I drove to the chiropractor after work only to be told that my appointment is today, not yesterday. I couldn't believe that I did that. Especially since before leaving I told DH that I was getting tired of driving all the way out there 3x/week.

Tonight after my appointment we're going to go look at new grills. Our old one is pretty shot and I'm hoping that there will be some Memorial Day sales that we can take advantage of.

Our one dog has decided that he's going to be super clingy and woke me up in the middle of the night with a dog request to get on the bed, which was his face right next to mine and a giant hot sigh of dog breath into my face. And then he hopped on the bed, futzed around for a while, and then decided that he didn't want to be up there after all. So right about now, I'd like to take a nap.

Good morning quilters

I watched Tangled last night and so enjoyed the show. I rarely will watch movies but so enjoyed just laughing.

DD and her husband were glowing watching their daughter walk back and forth. DD had tears in her eyes she got so emotional on this milestone.

Keep meaning to get back into my sewing room, but haven't made it there this week yet. I have a couple of applique blocks I want to do - just haven't had time. Where does the time all go?

Enjoying my life and where I am in my life. Told my husband that we have been so lucky.

Julie I would love to hear your concert playing! We are a family of musicians, all of us in the high school band and 2 grandsons, one a tenor sax and one a trombone.

Ginny its nice to explore new places.

WG, playing with the dog is life's best thing, other than grandchildren.

Meg, its interesting about the bees. Sounds like a lot of enjoyable and profitable work to get the honey.

And Linda glad you are so busy at work. Helps to pay the bills!

Well, our 6:30 appmt with the electrician didn't happen. I"m starting to understand why his price is $7000 less than the other two quotes we got. Customer service is such an easy thing to accomplish. All you have to do is pick up the phone and call to say what the details are. That is all we ask. A phone call. Just keep us informed and dont make us follow you around to talk to you! Whenever I had a problem in my business, I would call the client immediately to tell them. They usually understood. Except one woman who wanted her chair prior to Thanksgiving and it sat on the truck instead of being delivered to us. She was so mad. But later on, become one of my best clients ever.

So yesterday, I sewed up a pillow with my serger. I finished a wine sleeve. And I made a pillowcase for a woman at church who wanted us to finish her Mom's quilt. Then I started cutting scraps into usable sizes. ANd I handsewed the binding onto a quilt that I donated to the guild. Its so satisfying and such a pretty quilt. So you can't keep me down. I have a bag of men's shirt sleeves that I will likely serge and make into wine sleeves today.
Hope we get a phone call soon.

Carol

Carol, I got the package, thank you so much. My greens needed a freshening up. I agree with Meg, have the bags as the finished product and make kits to sell.

Meg, PT is having him do the same exercises he does at home, but they use a Dolphin Ultrasound machine to help "relax" the tissue around the incision. He said it seemed to help with the tightness he had been feeling. It hasn't rained in 12 days, and doesn't look good for the next 7. Yup, straight to August. Did flooding the bees help?

Ginny, your family just keeps growing. How wonderful to have "local" help.

WG, it's wonderful the grands can all come and make wonderful memories with their cousins. These are so special, even if they are loud and chaotic. Glad the brownies were good. It will be wonderful for DS to be able to walk to your house quickly (and safely).

Julie, loved the concert. Will you be doing one at Christmas this year? Love my external hard drive. It's one of the things I'll grab if the house is on fire.

Our lives are becoming a routine now. Up, exercise, ice, eat, rest, up exercise, ice. But he is progressing nicely. Took a walk around the yard and sat in the swing while I did my afternoon walk. He said there is very little pain, mostly discomfort at the incision site. I finished quilting the second wall hanging and got the binding attached. Need better light for the handstitching so that will be tomorrow if I can see after my eye appointment.

Well the movers came and my cutting table, sewing desk and stacks of bins are in the storage pod. But you can't keep a good seamstress down. I had a needlepoint pillow front that came from my neighbors house and I cut fabric for a border and backing and sewed it up on the serger! I was smart enough to keep pins, scissors, a cutting mat which is on the DR table and a rotary cutter. I might accomplish a lot, going through the mess of bins I have and cutting into usable sizes. I put the accuquilt in the pod so I'll have to do it the old fashioned way. Might be able to retrieve it. I thnk I could also make tote bags on the cutting table except for the handles but could get strapping for those. And how to attach a pocked? I have a zipper attachment for my serger but never used it.
I think they are starting tomorrow and will start in sewing room and sons bedroom and bath. It will be hot.
And Julie, I know you missed your music! It is nice to be able to walk into the pharmacy and shop without a mask. Freedom at last! Carol

It was fun playing music again. Looking forward to fall when we start up again.

I sewed for a little bit this morning. DH decided he wanted to make our trip to Madison. I bought a new computer for my sewing room. I will use it for my embroidery computer program and for downloading quilting patterns for my long arm and embroidery patterns. I have to take it back for them to set it up in the morning. We also got an external hard drive for our main computer, we are running out of storage space.

DH also bought a new pair of shows so I hope he will walk with me. I am going to wait until fall to find a new trainer and try to walk for my exercise.

I am going to go knit for the rest of the evening.

Have a nice evening. Julie

Hi Quilters. Wow, take a day off and everyone has been busy. It is lovely here after a weekend of cold and rain. The Dragon managed to mow on Saturday afternoon and it was sunny yesterday when I went to church to hear him play violin. He plays well and enjoys doing so.

The boys came with their families for dessert. We had fun and the kids so enjoyed playing. They all got together and chatted and played and laughed. The boys had a fun visit together. They really love being with each other. The youngest, Wolverine, was having fun cleaning out the toy room and feeding the dog crackers. It was very loud and busy. I loved it.

I enjoyed the brownies. They were gluten free and I'm not worried about gluten so I would make any brownie recipe and just add a couple of teaspoons or so of soy sauce. It did add a bit of something to the brownie. I followed the recipe exactly and it was very chocolaty. I usually don't add all the chocolate when I bake brownies but like to follow the recipe exactly the first time.

Ginny, it is fun for grands to have their own things and space. I have the toys confined to the grand guest room which is necessary for sanity. I have some of the toys the kids played with and now to see their children doing so is a lot of fun. DS left a lot of toys when he moved out after getting married. Some of them are slowly disappearing although I feel bad that the kids have lost almost everything they had before. It is as though their lives started when they moved there. I also have a place for their things that go home. I really don't want to have to gather things every time they leave.

How fun that your cousins are going to help with research. You will find so much more information.

Meg, your garden adventures are exciting to hear about. I do enjoy seeing what others are doing.

Carol, it sounds like fun to have the bags. It will be interesting to see how the kits go. It would be fun to make one. I hope you can survive the chaos of having your house torn apart for a while.

Bev, good that DH is dreaming of running. I'm sure he will be back to his old self. He really wants to. It takes a lot longer than one thinks. My ortho told me at my 3 month check up that it would be a year before I was where I want to be. I can see that with morning stiffness, etc. It gets better weekly, though.

Julie, so glad you got to play again. It is something that is super hard when you can't gather and play together.

Linda, so glad you treated yourself. I'm sure you will enjoy the kimono and enjoy the memory of treating yourself.

I'm off to have lunch and play with the dog. The state is improving a road near me. It will become a 6 lane expressway. Fortunately, they are putting the overpasses at ground level to reduce noise. This week they are moving water lines for the city I live in so they are asking us to reduce water use until Thursday. I did get my shower but I don't take long ones and the dishwasher won't run for several days anyway. The laundry can pile up a bit so I'll do my part. It's just strange thinking about it.

The road improvements will allow DS who lives physically closer to be able to walk to my house in about 10 minutes. It will be nice to have the kids be able to visit whenever. Now they have to walk about 2 miles if they walk here as they have to cross a pedestrian overpass and walk here.

Have a great day.

Meg - so glad you got a new queen. Hope the hive accepts her and it flourishes. I commend you learning a new skill. When we were in Germany in 2001 meeting relatives - one of them was a beekeeper. I asked him to show us his hives. I still remember it.

Puttering around the house this weekend with a day trip. New relatives in NZ heard about my call to our common 95 year old cousin and contacted me. They are excited to help on the hunt. So great to have feet on the grounds for those long distance researches.

DH cleared out the sewing room. So plan is to start sorting blocks this week.

Carol - It sounds like maybe having your bags there to sell as an example of what the finish would look like, but putting together kits rather than making more bags might be easier given everything that you've got going on with the wiring and grands.

Bev - It sounds like DH is healing nicely. Hopefully PT will give him some new exercises to keep him improving. It feels like we skipped June and July here and headed right to mid August. It was in the 90's here over the weekend. I can't imagine the weather you guys are having if you said that it was hot.

Linda - Sometimes you've just got to treat yourself and I'm so glad you did. That kimono was meant to be yours.

Ginny - It's so funny how kids want a space that's theirs in your house. The grandkiddo and my niece and nephew all have dedicated space for "their" toys at our house and even if they don't play with them on a particular visit, they do a check to make sure that they're still there. I'm sure there's some reason that has to do with routine, consistency, and security, I just think it's funny.

Julie - I've got your concert playing in the background as I type. You guys did a wonderful job. I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

I had a pretty busy weekend here. I went to a local garden with my uncle, it's on an old estate and he's been bugging me to go for at least 3 years and I finally went with him. The gardens are lovely and I was able to pick up some ideas for perennials to plant around our yard that are bee and butterfly friendly and deer resistant. Then I went over to my dad's because he had bees move into his pachysandra and they were making it impossible to use the front of the house during the day. They were ground bees and while they generally don't sting it's still pretty unnerving to try and approach someone's house when it's full of flying bees. The key to getting them to move along is to flood the ground they're using as a nest, so we did that. I need to check in with him to confirm that it worked.

I got my block swap blocks in the mail on Saturday. And I checked on my own bees and they're thankfully raising a new queen after last week's mishap. I don't think I'm going to try and mark this one until she's been laying for a while.

And I got all my annuals in the ground. Some in the boat planter and some around our trees. And DH has been spraying the lilies with the stink spray in the hopes of keeping the deer off of them.

We got together with the neighbors yesterday evening, one of them turned 60 so we celebrated her birthday.

Today is spreadsheet and meeting heavy. And without a quilt project to occupy non-working hours, depending on how hot it is, I might take a bike ride after work.

Bev, we are just moving the large pieces that are in front of outlets so they can maneuver. I hope it starts soon or it is running into when the grands are here.

Our guild is having a "yard" sale in August and trying to think of cute ways to run it. We are going to sell tables for $5 to anyone who has wares to sell. Then we will accept donations to create silent auctions where we will sell tickets.

I have several bags I've made that I never sold and I can make some more bags. I might just do that out of donated fabric and sell them. Or sell kits with these wooden handles I have.

Carol, I do hope you are right. How much of the furniture will you have to store, or is it just the sewing room?

Linda, Maker's Market sounds like nice way to spend an afternoon. We used to have a similar thing, but sadly it has gone by the wayside. Good for you, going back and getting your items.

Ginny, so glad DGD is slowly "moving in". Enjoy it.

Julie, hubby has been dreaming he was running, so perhaps he will be able to again. Thanks for the link to the concert, I'll go listen.

Today was another good day, although it was very hot. I finished hand sewing the binding on the first wall hanging and got the second half quilted. Hubby has been didicated to his exercises, but has PT in the morning, so that will be a challenge. But he can handle it.

Carol, I hope your rewire goes well.

Bev, I'm sure your husband will be ahead of the game when he gets to PT. My brother thought everything was going slow during his rehab, but in realty he was ahead of most people. He had his hip surgery in September and was allowed to start running in the spring. He lives in northern Michigan so he had to wait for the snow and ice to go away.

Our concert went well today. There is a link to tube on the orchestras web site bdorchestra.com if anyone is interested in listening.

I did get a little sewing this morning. I have 9 more crumb blocks to make and then I can finish the blocks. I am going to put a piano key border on, So I need to cut some strips out.

Have a good evening.

I"m so happy that you did that for yourself LInda! You deserve it! I left a turquoise kenmore sewing machine in a cabinet at Goodwill for $75. I have thought and thought about the machine many times. BUT, it was filthy and had oil all over it and I knew my husband would throw a fit and where would I have put it. It was the turquoise I coveted and cheaper, I might have bought it. OH, well.
I've dismantled the top of my sewing desk and cutting table in prep for the move tomorrow. And filled several containers full of stuff! It will be like Christmas to open things back up again. I still have to pack up a bookcase of fabrics but my back keeps singing. I'm more concerned with the heavy items that the movers will move tomorrow. The rest can be moved via son and hubby. I hope they come early in the week. I think this is going to run longer than we had hoped. Carol

Morning quilters

We we ordered a bubble machine as a surprise for DGD. Also need to buy a frame for our Christmas puzzle of DGD to hang up in her room.

DD makes me laugh as she has a shelf here in our house for things that need to go home with her. Her daughter has a shelf in our fridge for all her food. I laugh as they are slowly taking over our place and I love it.

Everyone has so much going on. It is that time of year.

It was hot and humid here yesterday too! After work, I went downtown as they were having what they call "Maker's Market". It's kind of a craft/food/boutique street fair. They come from all over and set up in the streets. I walked around with my daughter and granddaughter. I saw a really cute Kimono I liked but I looked at the price and said "I'm not spending $42". Then we went up the street to one of the local stores and there were several booths set up in her parking lot and one had cute t-shirts and my daughter said "that t-shirt would look good under that kimono". Still "I'm not spending $42 +". There was also a lemonade stand that makes fresh lemonade. He does a sugar/splenda mixture that keeps the calories at 80, and the whole glass is $5 for the first and $3 for a refill. It was so so good. Anyway, we parted ways and I went home. After I got home all I could think about was that kimono and shirt. And I kept thinking. Then I said to myself "you squirreled away $200 the other day, just go back and buy them". And I did! And I got the last lemonade he had left! I only live 2 miles from town so it's not like I had to drive a long way. It was such a beautiful day and I have something bright and springy to wear! Due to all this nonsense--no sewing or quilting was done yesterday! emoticon

Amazing about the hip replacement Bev. He will wonder why he waited so long.
Sounds like a beautiful day out Ginny, a lovely waterfall!
WG you will have to provide the Brownie recipe! Sounds interesting.

Today, son, hubby and me will move some things out to the storage pod. I also need to clear off my cutting table and sewing desk to get them moved out. We have some empty boxes that will probably get filled with "stuff". Time to get rid of the stuff I think. I'm not clearing everything out, just clearing space around the outlets, which aren't many. I have a sliding glass door in my room and will move platypus's table over to in front of the door. That way, I can still do some FMQ once they clear out of my room. I hope they come early this week as it is going to run into when the kids come.
I'm looking around on my desk and wondering what to do with it all. Sounds like a goodwill trip today.

Carol, sounds like a good time to service your machine. You are going to have a hectic home for a while. Glad your orphan blocks found a good home.

Ginny, glad you had a nice day out and hope you get more of them. It took longer to remove my gall bladder than to replace his hip. It is amazing.

Pam, I like liquid starch, too, but it can be hard to find around here sometimes. Hope your hubby gets better quickly.

WG, birthday breakfast sounds nice. I will have to try some soy sauce in my brownies. It's better for me than salted caramel.

Julie, sorry the cats developed murmurs. Mine has problems with itching and was hoping perhaps grains would help that. Hope the concert goes well. Will it be livestreamed?

Hubby had a good day today. He slept all night, woke up rested, and did his first set of exercises before breakfast. He has increased his walks from 5 to 11 minutes at a time. He'll be ready for PT on Monday. I finished one wall hanging today. I found a marker that was almost dried up and left a very light mark which did disappear. So just had to mark smaller area at a time. Got the second one basted and ready to quilt tomorrow. Didn't get my morning walk, but did get a nice afternoon one. It was a bit warm for me (87 today) so may have to get back to morning walks.

It has been a hot and humid day, we made it to 88. I didn't feel like sewing since it was so warm. We have been watching movies and knitting.

Bev, our vet recommended a diet with grains in it, what we were feeding them was grain free. Both of the cats had heart murmurs which where new to them. She said the grains could help with the heart issues.

I missed my last workout with my trainer this morning. I totally forgot and laid in bed reading. I am going to checkout Orange Shoes for personnel training and then get myself back on the treadmill.

I probably won't sew tomorrow. Our orchestra concert is tomorrow afternoon and I need to be there about noon,

Have a great evening.

Julie

Sit and sew was great and I managed to put a dent into the remaining blocks of Home Is by Pat Sloan. At guild thursday I had taken some orphan blocks to donate and a new member picked them up. She was at the sit and sew using them as center blocks. Nice to see them being used. I'll be glad when the Home Is is done. Carol

Hi Quilters. I had breakfast with Raphael for his birthday which was last Wednesday. It's a tradition they have followed for a while and I do enjoy the quiet visits. Tomorrow is supposed to be family dinner but it is also supposed to be in the high 50's so probably not. I'm still making brownies and will have them ready if someone wants to come by. If not, the grands who come every school day will enjoy them.

Pam, sorry your DH is still under the weather. So glad your GF is doing well. Have fun doing the table runner today. Glad you found your liquid starch

Ginny, there are some beautiful places that you can visit in Oregon. I know Multnomah Falls are spectacular. It would be a great hike. But a place that is always green has more water than here and falls are more common. It is nice that you have time to spend with DGD and this time you are making those bonds that continue. The grands I have cared for regularly are very close to me still. They are still young but it is a bond and comfort that I think they will enjoy for a long time to come.

Carol, I don't blame you for taking a longer time to redo the wiring if the price is a good one. It is worth the inconvenience. I'm sure the grands can do fine anyway. It is so disrupting having belongings packed away. So frustrating.

Bev, it is nice that DH is doing well. PT is individual as well as standard. They fit it to the physical fitness level of the patient and age as well as other problems.. So often a person has other limitations or difficulties. It is so nice to have that therapy and get going, though. He will be running circles around them soon.

Wonder what happened to the fabric marking pen?

Julie, sounds like you are busy with that crumb quilt. It is fun that you are finding fun things to do. Glad the cats will enjoy the cat food.

I'm off to make the secret brownie recipe. It was from a person who does Asian cooking on a website. She uses Soy Sauce in her brownies to give them a "salted caramel" taste. Hopefully it will work. It sounds fun. Have a great day.

Saturday and so far not much done. Paperwork, and grocery store. Ended up ordering the stuff I wanted on Amazon. I wanted Liquid Starch. I have some fabric to cut (bought yesterday for a mystery quilt class June 1-4. I know I said no more classes, what can I say. Anyway...want to starch the heck out of it because of some bias cuts, but not wanting to spray on the Press starch. To much fabric to do that. So good ole Amazon to the rescue. I will take care of that tomorrow.

I plan to work on my table runner, finally.
Hubby is still not up to snuff.
Girlfriend had her surgery and is doing very well. I might not have to be there much at all.

Have a good weekend.

Had a nice day out at a waterfall only a couple of hours out. It was so nice just doing a day trip again. Taking care of the DGD has made that impossible for awhile as the weekends tended to be reserved for errands. I didn't know how much I missed it until we went yesterday.

Bev - amazing to me your husband's surgery was basically outpatient. I had both hips done - each time it was 4 days. But the recovery is pretty quick

Have a great day all.

Bev, your hubby will be up and running in no time. The rewiring starts next week but we aren't sure of the day. WE got three estimates. Two of them came in at $18,500! One comapny said they could do the work in a week. We asked a realtor friend if she knew anyone and she referred us and the price came in at $11,500! $7,000 less. We are discovering it will probably take much longer, 2 to 3 weeks and may run into when the grands arrive. OH, well. But $7,000 is a lot of money! Our home insurance was extremely high so we are going to save more than $3500 a year by not having aluminum wiring! We refinanced and our house payment was cut in half by going with a 30 yr mortgage. So we dont pay off the house. But I'll feel safer and the house is paying for its own updates. We have a storage pod in the driveway to receive our goods. Ill keep you posted.
I have put my sewing machine in its wheely bag and will go to sit and sew today. And it will remain safe in the bag. Will likely take it to have it serviced and feed dogs replaced along with a few other things. I can always borrow a machine from the church but I'll be packing up a lot of stuff, moving things away from the outlets.
Have a great day! Carol
