Hi Quilters. It is nice to see how busy all are. It's been pretty quiet the past couple of days. It's nice to have a holiday weekend done and a quiet one coming. It was nice to see the kids and grands. I saw all but one set of grands and all my kiddos. Had a nice dinner out Saturday and went to DD's Sunday. It was nice to see the girls. It was SIL's birthday yesterday and Rose Reds birthday today so they celebrated a bit on Sunday.

I spent some time sewing yesterday Had to stop for a bit. Looping on the bobbin side. I had rethread, changed bobbins and taken off the throat plate three times before quitting. When I went back, I rethreaded and it worked fine.

I taught Miss M how to play "Steal the Pile" and she had a great time stealing my pile. It is a fun game for littles.

Carol, you are having fun with a new quilting method. It is so fun to hear of your adventures in sewing. It is delightful to hear of slapping on another strip if things aren't quite right. My kind of quilting. I may have to adopt that style more often. I like things a little wonky at times.

How fun for your DS to get all that great seafood. I do miss that. I'm sure all enjoyed it.

Have fun seeing the faces. It is a nice trip and I'm sure you will enjoy it. It was on your bucket last year and will be a great break for both of you.

Ginny, I'm sure the zoo was great fun. It is fun to take the littles to see animals and others. It is fun to get outside any time. I think taking grands to the park is lot of fun. It is nice to watch them play and run as well as swing.

It is nice that your friends in Washington are coming for a visit. How nice that the doll house is returning. It will be wonderful for your DD to have fun playing with her and will bring memories and stories.

Julie, will this retreat be with your friend? It sounds like you are staying busy still. Moving furniture is nice. It will be nice having a work table in the shop. Glad the little feathered critters are doing well.

I'm glad you can rehearse with the orchestra again. It is something I think we all miss.

Carrie, later springs are part of the fun of living in the mountains. It is probably one of the two disadvantages. Growing up, we never planted before Memorial Day. We sometimes had snow even on July 4. . Then it was a good year when corn was "knee high by the 4th of July." We also had huge snowbanks and tons of snow. It was great growing up but I don't miss it now that I'm on the warmer side of the mountain.

That was a quick quilt to get it on and quilted and bound in an afternoon. I'm glad you will be able to salvage the quilt top. It is a shame to have that work gone. What will you do with the quilt when you are finished?

Bev, glad you were with your mom for Mother's day. When is DH having his hip replaced? I'm glad he is doing it. He will enjoy life so much more when he doesn't hurt all the time. I'm sure the recovery will be quick and he will be loving life again.

Have fun with your friend on your mini retreat.

Linda, I'm sorry it is still raining. I'm sure it would be nicer if it came weekly to water everything instead of dumping all the water at once. How are the baby corn plants doing?

Hope everyone is enjoying a lovely day. I'm off to run a couple of errands before I get much else done. Have a great day.

Good Morning!

Ginny - We had a Denver zoo membership when the kids were home, but haven't been to it in years.

Carol - It is crazy how much prices are rising. Construction materials have tripled here.

Linda - we are still getting snow. I always tell people who move into the area not to plan on putting a garden in until Memorial Day.

Bev - glad you were able to see your grandson's band concert on livestream.

Julie - will you be able to have an audience for your concert?

Yesterday was a quiet day - no one at home except me. My DD and her family left in the morning for a 3 week road trip, my husband was at work (he is now going into the office two days a week), so it was just me and quiet. In the morning I worked on different little projects that needed to be done. Did laundry and finished binding my granddaughter's quilt. I will get a picture and post in Show and Tell later.

In the afternoon I started my next quilting challenge...my sister had given me a hexie quilt that needed to be finished. It was found when going through a friend of hers mother's things. They were going to throw it away but my sister "rescued" it. It is wonky and I will be taking the lower left "flower" and redoing it and moving it slightly to the right, plus some other minor moving things around on the edges to make things even. Then I will put corners on and add a border to square things up.

Good morning quilters

The zoo was good although when we go again we will pick morning hours to hopefully see more active animals. Most were sleeping.

We walk to the local park every day and DGD loves swinging on the swing set. She gets excited when we enter the park because she knows what's ahead.

Started making memorial day plans. Hard to believe that is almost here. But good friends from Washington are coming to spend the weekend. Because we're still watching DGD - we are limiting interaction with others. I had sent them my daughters doll house when she outgrew it - 25 years ago. She still has it and is returning it. It made the rounds among her kids and nieces too. So funny to me.

Stay safe and healthy.

We have a private zoo here which is very expensive to visit. However, we are grateful to have a zoo. There is another wildlife park north of us that isn't' so expensive. Might take the kids there.
Gas prices are already soaring. Up 75c per gallon since the first of the year. Thankfully, I dont drive much and usually only fill up once a month. Everything is so close.
Today I am going to devote myself to tidying up my sewing room and the garage in preparation for the wiring to be done. Its going to be a lot of complaining and moaning coming from me I expect but it will be all worth it when done. I will feel safe.

Our insurance is dropping more than half and our house payment will be more than half what it is now with the refinance as we took a 30 year. At our age, who cares? Just use it like it is rent and don't worry about it. Carol

Julie and Bev, prices are going to keep climbing at the grocery and other stores. Between lack of workers and trucking prices, it can't do anything but. I'm not sure hubby is ever going to get our garden in--it won't quit raining! (remind me of that in July!--LOL)

Ginny, I love going to the STL Zoo with my little grands. It's such a great zoo and free too!

Carrie, glad you had a nice Mother's Day.

Carol, have a fun trip!

Busy busy day at work yesterday.

Linda from Central Illinois

My March goals are:

1. Track more (at least 21 days)
2. Lose 2.1 pounds, at least. (I gained weight in February--this has to stop)
3. Continue to exercise 3 to 5 times a week
4. Work on organizing sewing room better.
5. Continue to put together my Grassy Creek tops and get ready to quilt them.
6. Quit mindless snacking.

Carrie, sounds like a lovely Mother's Day.

Carol, safe travels. I know you have missed your adventures.

Ginny, glad everyone found something to enjoy at the zoo.

Julie, it seems to cost me more everytime I get groceries. I'm looking forward to the garden coming in. Glad orchestra is going well. Will the concert be cast anywhere?

Today was mostly a do nothing day. Did get groceries this morning, and did laundry and got in my walk this afternoon. Rain clouds kept passing over, but haven't had rain since early this morning. Youngest grand's band concert was this evening. They were only allowed 2 tickets, so I watched the livestream. The quality was not up to their usual standards, but I still enjoyed it.

I have a friend coming tomorrow for a mini retreat. We will sew till Friday, so I may not be posting a lot for the next few days.

Started my day with going grocery shopping. It cost a little more than normal but I had to buy dry cat food and canned dog food. Plus I was getting stuff for my retreat.

After lunch I cut out one set of blocks. I started cutting out the 5 inch squares for another project. I got the colored squares cut and the stripe for the black squares cut. I hope these will keep me busy for my two retreats.

I have orchestra tonight. We have two rehearsals before our concert. The music is going well.

Have a great evening.

Good morning

Long day at the zoo. I think DGD was more fascinated with the other babies than the animals. But I enjoyed it.

Everyone went to bed early. Today is a relaxing day - I think.

Sounds like everyone has been busy and had nice Mother's Days. Linda can't wait to see your quilt. Mine is all pieced waiting for a sew day. There is a sew day on May 22 so I could take it and finish it there. Depends on whether I want to work on it or on something else.
Flying to South Dakota on Wednesday to visit Mount Rushmore and the surrounding area.
May 18, our aluminum rewire starts. that will be interesting. HOpe it goes quickly with no snags. I will feel a lot safer and insurance cost will be more than half what it is now. Carol

Linda, sounds like a lovely Mother's day. Look forward to seeing the new Grassy Creek. We are fixing to get more rain, too.

Carol, how nice of your son to order dinner. Remember there are no mistakes in quilting, only variations.

Ginny, you have been working hard on the blocks. A trip to the zoo sounds like fun. I haven't been to a zoo in a long time.

Julie, one can never have enough work tables. And we have found they should be of various hieghts, too. Hope you have a wonderful retreat.

I got up early to make breakfast for my mom, but she heard me puttering around and ran me out. After church they had a lunch for the mom's and a lovely time to visit and chat. Then we changed, packed and headed home. We brought one of mom's lawn mowers home and hubby will fix it so I can mow while he is laid up after his hip surgery.

Happy Mother's Day!

It was a nice quiet day. We went to church this morning. My SIL made lunch and supper for us. I took an hour nap in the afternoon. When I woke up, I finished loading the quilt and quilted it. Then I made the binding and sewed it on. I will be hand sewing it while I watch TV tonight.

I hope everyone had a nice Mothers Day. Ours was fairly quiet.

I sewed for a few hours this morning. We then went in and got the propane tanks for the grill filled. I helped DH take the work table in the bedroom on our main floor down. It is now in the work shop where it will go under the window. The work shop is getting cluttered. It will be nice when DH gets the 8X8 deer hunting stand out, because it it taking up half of the workshop.

The babies are pretty well protected from the barn cats.

I am planning on getting some fabric cut for my retreat coming up next week. I have two tops I am thinking about getting ready.

Have a nice evening.

Happy mother's day all.

I was sewing yesterday and almost finished up 19.5 blocks for the swap. I got on a roll and continued sewing and sewing. They are not totally together yet, as I keep swapping some of the strips. Had a great day.

Today we're off to the local zoo with DD and her family.

DH put together a collage for the wall so another picture on the wall.

Relaxing weekend.

Julie, we have no source of really good cheese around here. It must be nice to buy it where it is made. Sounds like you are busy.
Carrie it is good to have a date for the surgery. You can plan for it!
Bev, men who can work on vehicles are valuable!

Happy Mother's Day to everyone. Son came home last night and said he is ordering in dinner today. Snow crab legs, steamed shrimp corn and potatoes. And he is paying for it? Sounds like a lot of food to me. I never care about the corn and potatoes, its the seafood I enjoy.

I worked on my housetop 4 patch yesterday. One of the 9 blocks was sewn incorrectly. I thought to myself, what would Loretta Pettway have done? Tear it out and fix or sew it into the quilt? It got sewn in with olive green shirt sashing. Hope to finish up the top today. Not sure I'll get it quilted as we are leaving on May 12 for South Dakotas whirlwind tour.

Let me tell you, there is a lot of fabric in an xxl men's shirt! A woman at church had brought in a bag of her Dad's shirts. We made a quilt for her and I have been making this quilt from the cut offs. The sleeves are becoming wine sleeves for our craft sale. I'll have to piece the border with whatever is left. The olive green is getting used up but you can get fabric from the cuffs and the yoke. Nothing goes to waste. Carol

I finally got into the sewing room yesterday afternoon. I have 2 of the 4 rows of my 2nd Grassy Creek lap quilt sewn together. I'm loving the look. And I think a man or a woman in the nursing home will enjoy them.

We are having my daughter, her family and my mom and brother, and sister and her boyfriend over this evening for dinner. Just throwing a ham in the crockpot and having sandwiches. We are celebrating Mother's Day and Hubby's Birthday, which was Thursday. If it ever stops raining long enough, going to pull some rhubarb and make rhubarb crisp for dessert.

Bev, glad they were able to fix the tractor.

Meg, a pedicure would be wonderful. Don't see it happening here for awhile. With all this rain, we're going to be SO BUSY at work tomorrow!

Julie, I hope the barn cat's heed hubby's warning!

Carrie, I hate when my day doesn't go the way I planned but it usually works out.

It's rained all night and it's still raining heavy. It comes into our basement and goes back out and hopefully the drain can keep up. It'll be interesting to see how much. There is a "lake" at the bottom of the yard that just keeps growing.

Carol, isn't it amazing how our bins just seem to stay full no matter how much we use. They will look great in the Housetop 9 block.

Meg, it does seem there is always something that needs fixing on the farm. All the tractors are at least 35 years old. A friend of dad's came and helped with the tractor and it is once again purring like a kitten. Hope you enjoyed your quiet day. A pedicure and bike ride sound wonderful.

Julie, I hope the barn cats listened to DH's lecture.

Carrie, sorry your day didn't go as planned, but sounds like it was still a good day.

Today was a very productive day for us. Hubby and a neighbor got the tractor purring and he finished the mowing. I worked cutting suckers on the fruit trees and picking up limbs from the wind. Mom and I took flowers to the cemetary and brought the old ones back. After lunch I disassembled the old flowers then DH and I trimmed the camilias, filled the gas tanks on everything, and put tools away. After dinner we took a nice walk to the old house.

Bev - My knee replacement is scheduled for Aug 3. It seems like there is always something to fix when it comes to farms.

Meg - Ibuprofin does help, but I try not to take it too often as it raises my blood pressure. Love those quiet days!

Carol - men's shirts are a nice source of fabric.

Julie - Are you able to keep the barn cats away from the chickens and turkeys?

My day did not go as planned. I had wanted to load and quilt my granddaughter's memory quilt. However, my husband wanted to clean out the shed so we could put the quilting frame we got for parts in it. Got that done. Then after lunch we went shopping. One stop was the thrift store. We scored there and got some good deals on books, gifts for grandkids and I even got a bag of 50+ quilt squares.

I didn't get any sewing in today. We did some running around this morning. We took the 5 fleeces down to a friend and delivered some roving to her also. She is going to deliver the fleeces because she wants to go visit with a few people, and people are going to puck up the fleeces at the store. The store is only open Thursday - Sunday. I picked up another ball of yarn for hats and mittens in blues and greens.

We then went to the cheese store and got some different cheeses, a sheep milk, a goats milk and cheddar with horseradish. I had some for dinner since our lunch was late. It was yummy.

The babies are doing well. DH told the barn cats there are no chicken or turkey dinners for them.

We worked on cleaning the bed room down stairs. DH is getting set to move his gun cases in.

Have a great evening.

Thans Meg. About the knew it doesn't bother me and the doctor said I may have had it for 20 years. About 20 years ago, I had a severe strain in my left ankle. We were at a restaurant a couple of years after it healed but coming out, my foot came out from under me and I slammed my left knee into the pavement. I'm thinking that may be when it happened. It isn't bothering me but my lower back is so seeing someone about that. Probably arthritis and bone spurs. Once get moving and take a tylenol it loosens up. ANd wlaking helps.
Sewing on another Gee's Ben inspired Housetop 9 block half log cabin variation. It is so much fun and liberating. Not enough fabric? Just add something else. And using men's shirts. This might be my new thing. Carol

Hey all!

Linda and Carrie, I got your blocks mailed out this week. They should hopefully arrive in the next few days.

Linda - I love lilacs. I had 3 new ones that didn't survive last year's flood. I bought three replacements for this year and we should be able to get them in the ground this weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed that they can get established before the next time the river comes to visit.

Carrie - I'm so sorry to hear about your knee. Does ibuprofin help at all? I use a reading pillow to prop my knee up when it starts protesting after over exertion as well.

Carol - Mahi is one of my favorite kinds of fish. And we definitely need to start eating more fish around here as well. Any leftover batting that I have that's 8-10 inches or wider, I fuse with other pieces and use them as batting for my charity kids quilts. I use the same batting for most quilts so I don't worry about loft differences. I'll be keeping your BIL in my thoughts as he battles his cancer.

Bev - I hope your husband was able to get the small tractor running. It sounds like you guys are part time handymen and part time mechanics at your place. What are you going to do with the PVC pipe for the scarecrows? Use it as a sleeve so it rotates more easily?

Ginny - That's pretty exciting about your DNA kit. I've been curious about those for a long time. I'm also a little creeped out about my DNA being out there, which makes literally no sense since the DoD has my DNA, a full set of fingerprints, and an eyeball scan. I'm sure that eventually curiosity will win out. :) I can't wait to hear about your results.

WG - That's so cool that you've kept that birthday tradition alive and I know your grandkids love the fact that Grandma makes them feel really special on their birthday.

Julie - That's so sad about your trainer and not getting that grant. Is there a small business administration office near you guys that she can maybe appeal to? That also stinks that they had to mail the chicks since it seemed like they already had a no contact way to do pickup in place. Did the chicks arrive ok?

It's a quiet day here and I'm taking advantage of it. I'm doing some laundry and have to go check on the bees. But other than that I'm going to go treat myself to a pedicure, take a bike ride, and I'm cutting fabric for the block swap. I'm about halfway done with the 2 inch blocks and taking the opportunity to do some Scrap User System cutting at the same time. It's pretty fun going back through old fabric. Though I have way too much blue. There might be a blue and white quilt in my future.

Julie, it is sad about your trainer. I went to an aerobics dance class for 4 years and when it closed, I went into withdrawal, my body did. I loved that class so much1
Carrie, ouch.
Bev sounds like you are going through quite a weather fiasco. So familar down here.
Today I plan to sew a Housetop 9 block half log cabin variation quilt out of shirt strips and old whites.
I have this bin of whites and off whites and it never gets any smaller, no matter what I pull from it. Been making 1 1/2" strips for the above quilt using the accuquilt. Love that die as well as the 2 1/2" strip die. They are so handy. Carol

Carol, love the wonky log cabin. It does remind me of the Gee's Bend quilts.

Julie, is there a chance your trainer will change her mind and keep the business? Is there a possibility of her being a personal in-home trainer? Sounds like the hatchery's old system would still work nicely. So sorry the day was wasted.

Carrie, it was fun making the scarecrows, but we will have to find a way to give them more movement. I have some PVC pipe at the house I'll work with. Sorry your knees are giving you fits. When will you have the replacement?

Today was much cooler than yesterday,. In fact it didn't get out of the 60's today and I had to put on a jacket this evening. Hubby decided to buy a new 4ft bush hogg to get under the trees, so today was spent getting it together and running. Now the little tractor isn't wanting to run so if he can't get it running in the morning, he will go get another small tractor. Well it's always something. Mom and I started putting flowers on the graves today and will finish up tomorrow. Her church is having Mother's Day lunch after service Sunday, so we will cook for that tomorrow, too.

Bev - Sounds like fun making the scarecrows. I remember helping my grandmother make them.

Julie - That is so frustrating having to wait for a phone call!

I was so sore from working in the flower beds yesterday. Last night I iced my right knee(the one I will be having replaced), but not my left knee. I woke up at 12:30 and the left knee was throbbing. So, I ended getting up and icing it for an hour so I could sleep. I slept in this morning.

I finished the quilt top and backing today. I hope to load and quilt it tomorrow. I hope to finish it before I go down to her house next Tuesday.

It has been a fairly slow day here.

My trainer contacted me yesterday wanting to know if I could workout today, which I did. She told me since she didn't get a business grant she is going to have to close her studio at the end of the month. I have 2 more work outs with her unless we can work something out. She said since she has made the decision to close her business she has had 4 people contact her about training.

When I got home we made a trip to Farm and Fleet. I thought DH need a few things for the chicks but he didn't, so I got what I needed and we came home.

We ordered our chicks from a local hatchery. In the past they would have the birds boxed and in a large room with your bill on top. You would find your order, pay the bill and leave the check on the desk, without any contact with people. DH isn't happy with the mailing of the birds. Yesterday was totally wasted day because he was waiting for a phone call from the post office which didn't come until about 4:00.

We are watching a movie. We stopped it so I could get dinner and DH could get chores. I guess we will go finish the movie and knit some more of my hat done. I took a break from my sweater and have been making hats and mittens again.

Have a great evening.

Julie

Linda, glad you had a good check up. Mine is the first of June and I'm working on getting my A1C down.

Carol, grilled mahi sandwich sounds good.

Ginny, love the rug, gonna look into them.

Julie, I love it when the birds start showing up on the feeders. We still only have 1 hummingbird. Seems like they could use a local delivery service within a certain area for the chicks.

WG, I'm sure you can come up with a way for him to see through the hood. We always let the birthday person choose the meal for dinner.

Carrie, another busy day for you. I look forward to seeing the quilt.

Didn't do much at all this morning. Tidied the house a bit then headed to the farm. Hiubby got started on the bush hogging. I replaced some vent covers then mom and I made scarecrows and put them in the garden. Then we got a severe thunderstorm warning and within an hour it was pitch black, windy, and raining. Just did get the tractor back in the barn before it came up. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Good Afternoon!

Bev - glad the road wasn't washed out. Have a good day at the farm.

Linda - I do the same thing when I wake up trying to figure a quilt pattern. Did that last night thinking about how to do a border on a client's memory quilt.

Carol - praying for your BIL and sister. Sounds like you had a busy day.

Ginny - nice rug. Enjoy a relaxing weekend

Julie - That is crazy about mailing the chickens with you so close!

WG - love that you are continuing your mom's tradition. Great memories to be made!

This morning I cleaned out my flower beds. Then I worked on the 16 connector blocks and finished them. This afternoon, I made brownies for tonight's Community Group, cleaned the kitchen and bathroom, changed out the table centerpiece and now I am sparking.

HI Quilters. It's been a nice day. Yesterday was Enterprise's birthday. He wanted me to make him an Iron Man hoodie. I found one online and ordered it. It has a face on it and zips all the way to the top of the head which is strange but it is interesting. He wishes he could see out of the hood but it isn't going to happen. It's nice that the grands believe that I can sew anything. They can learn the truth soon enough.

Julie, how fun to see the new birds. It is nice to live in an area with many different birds. I have seen some different birds over the years but now it is almost entirely crows. Apparently they like the neighbors walnut trees. I miss even the magpies as I don't see them at all.

I'm glad you are working on another project. How is the sweater going? Or is it hats and mittens again? It's interesting that the chicks are coming by mail. That is an interesting way of dealing with things. Our farm store is totally unmasked. I guess it depends on where one lives.

Ginny, DNA kits are fun. It is interesting to find other people you would never have found otherwise. It has been interesting as they find more people participating that some of the numbers and locales change a little. I have several Scottish ancestors and a lot of Danish ancestors yet have no Danish DNA and very little Scottish DNA. It is all Norwegian. Apparently my ancestors were Vikings. My boys love the idea of descending from those bloodthirsty explorers.

What are you reading this weekend? Love the rugs. I have thought about that but haven't gotten there yet. I may have to look into doing something similar. I made some rugs by crocheting strips years ago when it was popular. I think they all left the house by now. It was fun to do.

Carol, you do stay very busy. I'm glad you enjoyed your fish at the club. It is hard to worry about family. I'm glad that you are there to be supportive of your BIL and sister. This going to be hard for both of them and their children. They may need another set of ears when they visit the doctor for some of their visits. Sometimes it is nice to have someone less close to the situations to hear what the doctors have to say. It is why I go to Denver with my sister. She needs/wants the support so she can remember the details from the doctor.

Linda, I love my lilacs. DD came and got her bunch for her home. She loves the scent. I don't smell as well as I once did either. I still enjoy them. I love watching baby corn poking out through the soil. It is that sure sign of spring. I'm glad you got a good health report. It is nice to know that all the care you take to stay healthy is working.

Happy Birthday to DH. Have something healthy. to eat.

Bev, glad there wasn't serious damage but a big tree is enough. Hope that the power and Internet are back up for a while. I hope the rain is enough for a while so your time at the farm is productive.

Carrie, how fun to make cookies with your little DGD. It is fun to have them help. I'm sure she remembers the fun you have together. That is a lot of cookies, though. I hope they enjoyed them at the pot luck. You are super involved with your grands. It is such a blessing to live close enough to do so. I'm sure your children enjoy your help as well.

Off to clean a bit. I got some groceries when I picked up Enterprise's favorite treat, some really colorful popcorn. I am continuing my mom's tradition of giving the grands a treat that they like/want for their birthday as well as a gift of clothes or something. Have a great day.

We are starting to get some new types of birds. We had an oriole and a gross beak this morning. I got the oriole bird feeder up and DH got a humming bird feeder out. We will see what we get.

I have been sewing this morning. I finished my Nickel Quilt blocks. I am going to try to organize the rows so I can start putting the top together. I don't have a large enough space to lay them out.

DH is waiting to hear from the post office about his chickens. Because of COVID they are mailing every thing even though we are only 15 minutes away,

Have a good day.

Good morning

I got my dna test kit in the mail - so another project to do this weekend. I hope to finish up my swap blocks

Here is one of the scrap rugs I made with 2.5" strips of batting. - above of the oval rug is a different scatter rug made from scraps too. This was 6" blocks made of strips 12 blocks total.

I plan to start making a dent in my books also and relax this weekend.

Hope you all have a great day - stay safe and healthy

Bev, glad the road wasn't washed out after all. Hopefully your electricity and internet will stay on now. Is hubby's hip getting worse?

Carol, sometimes it takes something like fixing wiring to help us clean up our "space".

Julie, is the desk working since it is smaller?

We are supposed to get some rain off and on today and the weekend sounds wet. It's either feast or famine. I did notice one of the farmer's fields has "baby" corn plants coming up. My lilac is in full bloom today. I love looking at them and since I can't smell them anymore, I don't have to worry about how strong they were. There are a lot of things blooming and even if I can't smell, I still seem to have the allergies associated with them. I had my Annual Medicare Well Check with the nurse the other day. Except for my weight (which she didn't mention since she's also a bit overweight) she said my health was excellent. Hopefully there will be no surprises with blood tests. I go for follow-up to Doctor next Friday. I have a few little things to talk about but it should be ok too. Woke up at 302 this morning (second day in a row) and couldn't get back to sleep since I was trying to figure out how I'm quilting my Grassy Creek lap quilts when I finish putting them together! I hate when that happens. Today is hubby's birthday and he wants to go to dinner next door. I need to order a salad and not a hamburger and fries!

Everyone have a good day!

Linda from Central Illinois

My March goals are:

1. Track more (at least 21 days)
2. Lose 2.1 pounds, at least. (I gained weight in February--this has to stop)
3. Continue to exercise 3 to 5 times a week
4. Work on organizing sewing room better.
5. Continue to put together my Grassy Creek tops and get ready to quilt them.
6. Quit mindless snacking.

Meg, so glad you and Pam had a nice visit. Sorry it had to rain, but I think we all got some.

Carol, glad the wiring is being repaired. Sounds like things are falling into place. Sounds like you are really reorganizing your sewing space.

Julie, you had a busy day. Hope the desk is large enough for the embroidery machine.

Ginny, I never thought of using my little batting scraps for a rug. I'll have to look into that.

WG, glad you grands are able to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.

Carrie, so glad the cabin is in good shape and the annual chores are done.

This morning we walked down to the end of our road and found it was not washed out. A large tree trunk had washed down the ditch and blocked the drain under the road. The county cleared it and the water went down quickly. There will need to be some work done on the drain, but the road is usable. The internet was out most of the day today, and power was on and off, but everything seems to be working now. Hubby cut his morning walk short and made an appointment to see about scheduling his hip replacement. I did my morning walk and after lunch worked on cutting more scraps. Also pulled out a collection of left over blocks and arranged them on the design wall. There are enough of one for a baby quilt, and another for a nice wall hanging so I'll get them sewn up next week during my mini-retreat. We will be heading to the farm tomorrow and hope it is dry enough to finish the bush hogging.

Good Evening! Hard to believe it has been a week again. Another extremely busy week.

Carol - good to have you back again!

Last Thursday, my 4 year old granddaughter wanted to make cookies. So, we made 12 dozen chocolate chip cookies. Most of them were for the church potluck. I sent some home with her and took some to my son's.

Friday we went up to our cabin for the annual compost toilet (2 of them) and the outhouse clean out. I am glad that chore is over. It was beautiful up there and it was nice to relax after that was done. We went home Saturday afternoon.

Sunday, after church and the potluck, I took a long nap. Mistake, couldn't sleep that night.

Monday, I had JAZ, when they were picked up, I headed to my son's to take the girls to an AHG meeting since he was working and my DIL was at a meeting. I stayed the night and helped with homeschool on Tuesday.

Today, I had JAZ again. I also worked on a clients memory quilt design. And when I have had a little chance I have been working on my granddaughter's memory quilt.

HI Quilters. It is sunny today. It was cool yesterday but is warming up today. The grands enjoy the sunshine and the fresh air. The sod is looking good so far and I'm not doing a ton of watering. I did turn off the sprinklers as they are automatic and were watering too early in the season. I'm just doing spot watering right now for the new sod.

I thought I got on yesterday but apparently didn't.

Bev, sorry the thunderstorms woke you. I do love a good rain. It is nice of DH to work for a friend. It is nice to be able to pick up little jobs now and again.

Meg, I'm glad you and Pam had a good visit. It is nice that you got to visit and share your lives. I hope the rest of your trip is fun and enjoyable.

Carol, I'm glad you are taking care of your home. That wiring replacement is expensive. I hope it isn't too awful for you. It does make you move things to replace the wiring and plugs (at least I would replace them) but you will enjoy the end. It sounds like you are getting it totally upgraded. You may be right about the Downton Abby fabric. I had some and made masks from it. it was fun for the kiddos. I do agree that someone else may enjoy it more than you would.

I usually save my strips and pieces for other things. I used a lot when I made the little coin purses for the grands at Christmas and sometimes will cobble some together when doing a table runner or something. It isn't hard to join pieces and it usually isn't a problem since I quilt pretty close.

Julie, glad you have drawers for your embroidery machine. They tend to need more space for the hoops and thread and stabilizer, etc.

I love the mental picture of the chicks and poults. It just sounds fun to have them about. It reminds me of my childhood. Grandma had a chicken coop and gathered eggs every day. They also ate many of the chickens and she was very good at catching and taking them from the coop to the table.

Ginny, how fun for the DGD to be running everywhere. It does make her more mobile so she can get everywhere quicker. Hamish scooted on his bottom for a while. He was pretty good at it. I think DD finally convinced him to crawl a bit. He is doing well and is one of the May birthdays. He will be 4 and is doing great physically and intellectually. My sister works in special education and says that children who don't crawl much have a harder time reading. He is doing fine and has no problems.

Have a great day.

I cut up my stirps of batting into 9 inch squares. I then donate them to a couple lady in the quilt guild. They have a group of ladies at their church that make "quilt as you go" quilts for charity.

Our baby turkeys arrived this morning. I went out to see them but DH didn't have them in the pen yet. I helped him get the pens assembled the took a peak the babies. He called and chickens should come tomorrow.

I have been sewing and doing laundry this morning.

Have a great day.

Well with the little one on the move now - she wants to walk and walk and walk. But it's really run, run, run. So she never did crawl, she would scoot on her butte.

Bev - I understand the twig will grow a foot a year. Granddaughter is right now shorter than the twig - we have a photo of her so we'll take another one next year.

Carol - you can make scatter rugs if your batting can be cut into 2.5" strips. I've made 3 already and love them. Yes DH and I have crossed the country 11 or 12x - I forget. We take different routes each time and we have a beautiful country very diverse in art, food and landscape.

Meg and Pam - so great that you got to meet up.

Good for you to get that walk in Julie. I am so lazy. I get on a roll and then quit, repeat. Yesterday I did some cleaning out under my cutting table. What I thought was a full bin of bosal was near empty. Guess I used it up making bags. I removed that bin and then stacked some smaller bins in there. I have a box of Downton Abbey Fabric that I purchased to make a mystery quilt but got delayed and then did not like the mystery quilt so I never made it. Lots of it, especially the one with the words on it. I ought to list it on Etsy. Came from the Fat Quarter Shop and about ten or so yards assorted. My cutting table also has bookcases on each side that face out. One side was always a mess and little used but I turned my sewing desk and it made that area more usable. It is now filled with usable batting pieces and interfacings.
I"m trying to figure out a way to use up all those strips of batting that come off the sides of quits. Its like a fabric scrap. You cant throw it away because you paid good money for it but what do you do with it? I thought of getting a thin iron on interfacing and iron strips onto it big enough for baby or lap quilt. I'd have to straighten the sides but could do it. The other idea is to cut it all down to 2 1/2" strips to make a jelly roll rug or katahdin bag.
Some day I'll do that.
right now, I am trying to prep the room for the big electrical rewiring event happening on May 18. Hope it doesn't get too hot yet. Carol

I am glad that everyone is doing well.

The desk I am now using for my embroidery machine is smaller then the folding table I was using, The desk has more storage because it has three drawers.

DH and I went out to breakfast this morning on the way to the farm store. DH need chicken wire for the pens he is building. He also got a few new waters and food. The chicks are supposed to come tomorrow.

I came home and sewed until about 3pm. The fabric I ordered came today. I think they will both work for the quilt tops I have in mind.

Now I need to go get on the tread mill and get my walk in. I walked outside yesterday and my hip is hurting because of the uneven road. I will stick to the treadmill for now.

Have a good evening.

Meg and Pam, how nice to get to meet and visit. I"m waiting for Bev to come back to our area again so we can meet. WG, you always have such nice things to say about everyone!
Ginny, that is an adventure for sure and a long drive. You get to see the USA!
Bev, I looked at your pics again, it looks so nice.
Julie you are always so busy. It is nice to be back and chat with everyone. I really missed that aspect of Q&L.
Our electrical wiring is getting changed out starting May 18. We have aluminum and changing to the safer copper. We are refinancing the house to pay for it and that has been an experience in itself. Our home will be brand new when we are done. Now we need a termite inspection and already had an appraisal, a wind mitigation, and waiting for the roof to be inspected by the city. Our roofing permit from 2016 was never closed out.
I'm thinking today needs to be a deep cleanout of some areas. All the furniture has to be moved! Everything away from an outlet. Guess its time to clean up the sewing room. Whatever doesn't fit is leaving. Carol

I had such a nice visit with Pam yesterday. We met up at a Starbucks and hung out on the patio until it started raining. And then we moved over to my dirty old car and talked about life for a while.

Linda, we had some big storms last night and again this afternoon. Gonna have more tomorrow it seems. I don't remember this kind of weather this early before. I miss spring, too.

Ginny, hope your fig twig grows well. When your son gets married and starts his family you will be doing a lot of traveling.

Meg, your hives sound like Peyton Place.

Julie, sounds like you have another wonderful day planned. I love batiks and have collected enough for my temperature quilt.

WG, hope you get some rain so you don't have to keep the sod watered. That is a pain in the neck.

We were awakened several times last night by thunderstorms and heavy rain. Had more storms today, and expecting worse tomorrow. We did our morning walk and got rained on. Hubby filled in at my friend's pharmacy this afternoon, so I picked up some greeting cards and a few odds and ends, and of course it stormed just as I got home. Did manage to do my least favorite chore, vacuum the stairs. Got the linen closet sorted, and worked on some more exchange blocks. Hope we get to sleep tonight.

HI Quilters. It is overcast today and cooler which is good for my new sod. It is a challenge to keep the areas moist as they aren't together. I changed my hose from a 75 foot one to a 100 foot one and can reach all the spots I need. It is still not terribly fun to do this but I'm looking forward to the yard being nicer and more grassy.

Carol, your Gee's Bend work sounds fun. I'm sure you will make a lovely quilt and do a great presentation. You have organized thoughts and do your homework. it is so worth it to have a presentation go well. You have some sort of fabric magnet. It seems like someone is finding you to unload more fabric. It is a blessing for you to be able to use this fabric to help so many others. Sometimes we get these wonderful blessings.

I like the book covers made from placemats. I did that with my activity girls (10 years old) when my DD was that age. I don't know what she did with hers, but everyone made one. I'm sure yours are much nicer than their work but it was an introduction to sewing and crafting.

I'm sorry about BIL. I have a couple of friends who had MM and it was hard a lot of the time, but they had some great quality of life the rest of the time. I'm not sure that getting treatment sooner would change the outcome, even though it is frustrating that he waited for treatment. I hope you are able to be helpful and supportive for your sister. Does she sew?

Julie, so glad you didn't have a significant reaction to your vaccine. It is nice to feel safer and I'm sure your doctor appreciates that you are safe. You have such fun at your retreats. I'm glad you have some more planned. Black batiks sound beautiful.

Chicks and Turkeys next? Sounds like you are ready for the next winter already.

Bev, how nice that your Grand enjoys your company so much. It is good to look at photos and share stories. It is fun to have those memories.

Love the sewing room. It looks great. I'm sure your friend will enjoy it when he has her retreat with you. It would be fun maybe to have the gray blocks either on the inside or the outside of the quilt so you could use the white ones in your DGS quilts.

Meg, it is interesting that putting the dock back is a challenge. I hope they did better than you did with yours. Keep walking. Sounds like your step counts are getting better every week.

Ginny, how fun to see a photo of your new cousin. I hope they send photos of their reunion. It is nice to have these fun connections. I like the idea of being bicoastal. It will be nice for DS to come and visit even when you aren't there as well as you being able to be both places. How is MIL doing? It's been a long year for her.

Hope the fig tree works out well. I love figs. I had a friend in California who traded me strawberry jam for fig jam. Hers was great but I enjoy eating them plain. It's like having a Newton without the cake.

Gotta get moving. Grands start coming home in about 20 minutes. Have a great day.

We went grocery shopping this morning. After I finish lunch I am heading to my sewing room to clean and put my embroidery machine and parts in there new home, on the desk.

I may sew on my Nickell quilt blocks. I am about half way sewing the blocks.

I ordered some batik fabrics last night. I finally found a black I liked for another Nickell quilt that has a black background. I also got a light pastel to go with crumb blocks for a quilt for one of my great nieces.

I have a couple retreats coming up, one in a couple weeks and another in June.

Bev, your sewing room looks nice.

Have a great day.

Julie

I thought I was going to finally finish the Unity top this weekend. That didn't happen. I think it's going to wind up being a UFO for a few months. I need to get the swap blocks done and this is hanging over my head and getting in the way.

My bees are doing bee stuff. One hive is doing great. And the other one decided that they didn't like their queen for some reason and made a couple of queen cells to replace her. So I ended up moving the queen and a few frames over into a new hive box and left the frames with the queen cells on them in the old hive. That way if the new queen doesn't make it back from her mating flight I can maybe reintroduce the old queen and hope that they don't try to replace her again.

We helped our neighbors get their dock back in the water on Sunday. And just like us, they should've taken notes last year too. LOL.It took twice as long as it should have. But at least it's in for the season.

The weather here has been great and my average steps for April were up by over 1000 from March. I'm going to try and do the same thing for May as well.

Bev - great job - can you come and do mine for me? Yes we are still swapping 8 blocks, I just like making extra :)

Carol - we are bi-coastal homeowners. With 2 kids one on each coast - we plan on being engaged parents/grandparents. It's been a joy getting to know the newest addition, but it will be hard when we head back after her 1st birthday.

DH plannted our fig twig and rolled out a lot of mulch. And he washed the car - so busy. All I did was laundry, dishes, more laundry, genealogy and sewing - oh right we did grocery shoppng too. So typical weekend with lots of normal stuff.

Stay safe and healthy

Bev, your sewing room looks nice.

Julie, we had that crazy hot weather this weekend too. Today is supposed to be cooler--only 71. I wish we could get spring and not get summer so quickly every year.

We did go for a walk yesterday afternoon. Only about half an hour and not real quick but a walk, nonetheless!

Linda from Central Illinois

My March goals are:

1. Track more (at least 21 days)
2. Lose 2.1 pounds, at least. (I gained weight in February--this has to stop)
3. Continue to exercise 3 to 5 times a week
4. Work on organizing sewing room better.
5. Continue to put together my Grassy Creek tops and get ready to quilt them.
6. Quit mindless snacking.

Julie, the weather certainly does change quickly. I don't like these wide swings.

Ginny, I love figs! And it will grow quickly. Do we still need to send 8 blocks?

Carol, I don't make many big quilts. Mostly lap - twin size. Of course lap for oldest grand is a twin since he is 6'6" now.

Today was overcast with a few sprinkles. We did get in our morning walk before lunch, then I cleaned the upstairs bathrooms. After hubby went to work I finished cleaning the downstairs kitchen and livingroom. Then washed linens and got to do a bit of sewing (making extra exchange blocks so I will have enough for a twin). Did get in an afternoon walk, but cut it short when it started sprinkling again.

My clean sewing room!
