Ginny have you moved to the West for good? Giving up on Delaware? Julie, the weather is so nice here now. Almost cool for spring. Hoping it stays like this as we are having our aluminum wiring replaced end of month and hot will not be fun. Bev, the crafts we make are whatever we come up with. I will have to post the info on how to make the fold up placemat. It would hold my husbands kindle.
I have long wanted to take a trip to Gee's Bend. It is so close to us. But hubby wont go. ANd its an overnight thing in Montgomery or Selma.
I've been watching a lot of youtubes on Gee's Bend. They have really achieved success in their quilting. On Etsy now with patterns and quilts.
I love their quilts, anything scrappy. I've been more into making bags and smaller items lately than big quilts. And using it up. Carol

Good afternoon quilters

We planted a fig tree (twig) yesterday. We are told it will grow fast - hopefully we put it somewhere it will get enough sun. DH has been working hard on the backyard - putting down mulch and fixing it up. It's a narrow yard with a fence all around it - very low maintenance once it's cleaned up.

Been working on the family history as my 96 year old cousin finally received my letter. She got an email address and emailed me a photo of herself. Real cool to finally see who I've been chatting with.

Plans today is to get back into the sewing room. I want to make a few more blocks for the swap.

Pam - our reaction to the vaccine was over in 24 hours. For everyone in our family we only had a mild reaction. Say hi to Meg for me!

Stay safe and healthy.

We had our first spinning guild meeting since last fall. We had been meeting outside until the weather got too cold. Yesterday was plenty warm but the wind was terrible. People would get up and there chair would blow away.

Today was been really nice almost too warm. We went from winter to summer without much of a spring. It supposed to get cooler after the storms tomorrow. DH and I finished going through the fleeces.

Since it is supposed to rain tomorrow. I hope to spend the morning cleaning up my sewing room. We moved a desk into the room for my embroidery machine. I now have 3 drawers to store the supplies for the machine. We can use the folding table some place else.

So far I haven't had much reaction to my vaccine. My arm is still a little sore and I am tired today, but didn't sleep well last night. That could be why I am tired.

DH is going to start getting ready for our baby chickens and turkeys which come next week.

Have a great afternoon.

Carol, I think you can visit Gee's Bend, or Boykin as it is now known. I'd love to see the book made from a placemat. What kind of crafts are you working on for the sale?

Julie, hope a sore arm is all you get.

Pam, enjoy your visit with Meg. Send us a picture, please.

Today was a pretty lazy day. Hubby felt good again, so we did a morning walk. After lunch I spring cleaned the upstairs kitchen and pressed the Rocket quilt doing one more check for stray threads. Stopped and chatted with a neighbor during my afternoon walk. DD took youngest grand to a movie, but oldest didn't want to go, so he came over and had dinner with me. He sorted through some old photos and we had a nice chat about them. It was a very pleasant day.

Thank you Julie. I will try to be good. Today I went to an 86 yr old friends house where she had a yard sale and trying to sell fabric etc. she would show me things and then kept wanting to pull them back and save them. We both know she isn't going to work on anything. I did manage to part with $10 for 2 pieces of fabric and a few other things. A book made from a placemat and we got placemats at the church that we were wondering what to do with. She said she is going to donate a lot of it to the guild but we shall see. I am really working on using up what I have. I keep getting stuff in for the church and I keep a few things but most does go to the church. We are working on crafts for a sale in October, provided we are back into our sanctuary which has been leaking terribly. I hope that as I age, I don't keep stuff past its prime.

Carol, It is do nice to see you back. It sounds like you have been keeping busy I hope the best for BIL.

I got my second COVID vaccine yesterday. I came home and ate lunch then curled up and watched the first part of the Hobbit movie and knitted. So far only my arm is sore. I found out last night when I moved the cat off my pillow so I could have it.

Our spinning guild is meeting this afternoon. I think it may be to windy to spin so I am going to take a quilt to work on the binding.

Have a good day.

Julie

I'm the program chair for our guild and was talked into doing a program on the Gee's Bend Quilters. The woman who talked me into it said she would make a quilt using men's shirts and she brought it to me. Now she may not be there this month so guess who gets to do it all. I have watched numerous videos on the Gee's Ben Quilters and have lots of info. Just need to make it into a pleasing presentation. I had a Gee's Bend kit that I bought from the LQS some years back. I made it up and the church quilters tied it for me and it turned out beautiful. I found a table runner in a magazine that is Gee's Bend inspired and I made that. And I also made another log cabinish throw quilt. I didn't worry about squaring things up as I wanted it to be a bit wonky, like their quilts are. I sewed on and cut the strips as I was making it. Cut with a scissors. It was very liberating! And I'm making scrap blocks with the only requirement that they have two sides of black. None of the strips need to be consistent.
One of our guild members who is very proficient said she did not like their quilts but the joy of it is the process. She is a very accomplished applique quilter and a little of that goes a long way. Any ideas are welcome.
So this has been keeping me busy and not sewing up things like Grassy Creek. Carol

Linda, maybe DH has some mud shoes hidden away. How wonderful ty have a good dance teacher.

Carol, seems like half of any job is always paperwork. So sorry you had cold showers, but should be good now. Prayers for your BIL and sister.

Ginny, "Bouncing with Nana" sounds like a great exercise video. So glad your cousin liked the quilt. I hope she keeps clapping when she has an accomplishment.

Today the grands came and we moved the last of the furniture around in the sewing room. Still need to do some sorting, but everything has a home now. Hubby was having a "good hip day" so he joined me for a morning walk. After lunch I finished the rocket quilt (pics tomorrow). Got to meet a neighbor's new grand daughter this afternoon. It's so nice to get to hold a little one again.

Thank you Ginnie but honestly I believe BIL is in an advanced stage and don't know if he can survive. He has broken 4 vertabra and is in extreme pain. He and my sister quarantined themselves all last year, and as a result, he did not seek help other than one visit to an emergency room on Labor Day. He suffered with the pain and of course, we didn't see them until March and so we weren't able to encourage him to get help. Even our doctor friend said he waited too long. So we dont know. He gets a biopsy next week and then planning to try to go to Arkansas where the hospital specialized in multiple myeloma. I'm not sure I am going to stay in this group. I am already too controversial. Carol

Pam - enjoy your trip - I'm sure you'll have a blast. I'll let you know when I receive your blocks.

Bev - keep that walking going. I'm trying to get mine in even when I don't feel like it. I'm up to 491 days in a row. My sister told me to get a yoga ball for those rainy days. I did get one for the west coast and not only is it an exercise tool, but DGD loves bouncing with nana during the day.

Carol - sounds like you've been very busy. I hope your BIL can manage his diagnosis so it doesn't impact his life too much.

Linda that's a lot of rain. I'll let you know when I get your blocks.

DH bought 14 more bags of mulch for the backyard. I guess I know what I'm doing this weekend.

So my Irish cousin received her present from me - the yellow pixelated rose wall hanging. She loves it and was blown away that I sent it to her. I am glad she likes it and happy it went to a good home.

So DH bought me some storage bins for my sewing room here. I fear I am now going to have 2 stashes one the west coast and one on the east coast.

So DH taught DGD to sit down. Now that she is toddling around so much it's good she has the ability to sit down when she gets shaky. I love that she claps every time she does something to be proud of. And am impressed with her increased sign language. But I think she thinks she's a goldfish - because she keeps asking for more food when I'm sure she will bust.

Stay safe and healthy

I'm slowly trying to regroup. A lot has happened in the last 4 months and I'll try not to share it all at once. We are refinancing our home in order to change out the aluminum wiring. I insisted that the house pay for its own repairs but it has almost been a full time job for my husband to get all the paperwork together. We had the roof changed in 2016 but the roofer never closed out the permit so trying to fix that. We just need him now to get to the city to do it. We had a wind mitigation and that is what discovered it. We have a good roof though. The day after the wind mitigation, our water heater died. We had 3 days of cold showers and finally a new water heater on Monday. $1350 later. You get what you pay for I guess. Had to also have an electrician as the plumber could not hook up the aluminum wiring.
Today we are having the appraiser come by and I need to tidy up some so it looks nice. After we have the wiring changed out, I will feel very secure in our home. The only thing left is to take down some trees. The oven will be next, I'm sure.
In between I've been trying to sew. My Brother in law has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma in an advanced stage. He went to the emergency room last labor day complaining of chest pain and back pain. And then did nothing until it got so bad he couldn't stand it. Now it is almost too late. There is no cure for this but it can be managed. Hope it isn't too late. Carol

Bev, the trouble with mud shoes is I wouldn't have them when I need them! emoticon Hubby somehow got in there and picked the first picking of asparagus.

We ended up with 4.6 inches of rain in 24 hours. It ought to be busy today!

Tonight is granddaughter Maddie's dance recital. Even grandpa doesn't have a problem with going to it. The teacher she has is so good about making interesting, not boring dances that you enjoy yourself. Before she started with her, the place she went to just wasn't very original and every dance looked alike!

If I don't forget them, the blocks will be in the mail today Ginny.

Pam, enjoy your trip.

Linda, they make snow shoes, perhaps they should make mud shoes. Not sure I could do Jazzercise at 7:15 in the morning, but glad it's good for you.

Nancy, glad the shake down is good. We've had this camper for 8 years now and I still keep moving things around.

Ginny, how wonderful to be able to mend fences (so to speak).

Pam, I've decided I need to get things done while I can. Hubby wants to start doing things to the house before he retires and I really need to get things out of here. Enjoy your trip, and please be careful.

WG, I think a lot of kids learned to drive on a mower. For the first time in many years my trash can is full. I also have a pile of papers that need burning. And why oh why did I have a collection of cardboard bolts? Enjoy the grands.

Julie, hope the injection goes well.

Today was overcast, but no rain yet. The brakes on hubby's car locked up, so had to take it in this morning. Tried to do my walk, but the privit hedge is blooming and I had a sneezing fit, so opted to work on my spring cleaning some more. This afternoon I worked on the sewing room and do laundry. Did get binding on the rocket quilt and will sew it down tomorrow. worked on a few small projects and put new nose wire on my favorite masks. Managed to get my afternoon walk.

It is starting to cloud up and get windy. So far the rain has missed us, it went north or south of us. We really could use some rain.

Today I sewed this morning then after lunch we went and picked trough a couple of fleeces. We have 6 more to go.

We get our second Pfizer vaccine tomorrow. Hopefully we don't have anymore reaction then with the first (a sore arm). Both my brother and sister had reactions of fever and being tired for a day. I hope to sew when I get home. DH is meeting a friend and doing some running around.

Have a good evening.

WG - actually I did it the old fashioned way - looking at archives and records and piecing together a giant jigsaw puzzle. I did do my dad and mom's dna years ago, but it was only for curiosity as opposed to help in research.

Years later it did validate a connection with the Irish and NZ branch - but I found them the old fashioned way.

It's fun. I'm hoping they send me a photo of the reunion.

Hi Quilters. It is lovely here. Sorry for those having rain. It is welcome here although 4 inches would be a bit much for the soil. It would be so appreciated in the mountains and would make such a difference. I know California is hoping for something like that as well.

Linda, I know you own a lawnmower shop. It is just fun, I think to recall how life has changed for many of us in how we deal with the work we used to do. I grew up with a large yard and it grew larger when I left home and my family quit keeping animals. It was about an acre of lawn and was interesting to mow, especially when my mom spent the better parts of two years in another state. My sister and I took turns watering the plants and mowing the lawn. It was a lot of work. The kids loved helping out. They got to drive the mower which was great fun for a teen.

I'm sorry you have so much water. It is miserable to have to deal with that much water. Hopefully it will ease soon and you will be able to dry out. Will the farmer have to replant?

I'm sue you will enjoy your Jazzercise class earlier so you can get on with your day. It will be nice to have more flexibility as you get busier with a regular life.

Carrie, you are making great progress on the memory quilt for DGD. I'm sure she will love it and treasure it as she grows. I'm sure your family enjoys the banana bread.

Bev, I hope your friend enjoys her Packing Material when you see her. It will be great fun. It was nice to have the grands to help you move furniture. I'm looking forward to cleaning out a bit. I have some fabric I haven't looked at in a while and it needs to come out and be used. It will be nice to figure out what to do with some of it and the rest will need to be organized.

I'm sure the boys had fun looking at their old toys and sorted some for their children to enjoy when they visit.

Nancy, that is quite a bit smaller than your previous trailer. I'm sure you will enjoy that when traveling and parking although it is nice to have the space when you are staying in one place. Have fun camping at Myrtle Beach.

Ginny, how nice to be able to connect the two families again. It must be nice for the nun (I'm assuming) and cousin to share and reconnect. It has to feel good to make that connection. Your family is spread over the globe. That is special. I have kin in other countries but the last relative to arrive in the US came in the 1860's. The relationship is distant. I have to think about some of them who came alone or as a single person leaving parents and siblings behind. Did you do DNA to help you find these relatives?

Pam, have fun in PA. It will be nice, I'm sure to spend less time on Zoom. It will be nice to see Meg as well.

I'm off to do more laundry. I'm picking up one grand after school but the others will walk here. They are busy children. DS and DIL brought me several pages of instructions and places the kids need to be and their online school schedule for Fridays only. We'll fit time in to do some other things as well. I will get some fabric cut and some other things organized for sewing camp. We may to a yarn project as well. Lots of movies to watch and some time with the dog who loves the Dragon more than me. I think they are planning to sleep together all weekend.

Have a great day.

Wow I have been OFF here for a while and it took time to catch up.

Linda please build an ark. No push mowers for me either, no lawn work of any kind.

Meg I will see you next week and I can hardly wait; it has been a long time.

Bev You are so busy all the time. I wish I could do that, however, with PPS I must pace myself.

Nancy I love Myrtle Beach or used to in the 60's, 70' and 80's. Went back a few years ago and boy o boy o things sure have changed.

WG enjoy those grands.

Ginny Happy Birthday Week! It is a good feeling when you are the one to reunited family members.

Julie sounds like Spring is your busy time.

Me I am getting ready to leave for PA for 2 weeks and will pop in to see Meg which will be a treat. Finished a board meeting and typed up the minutes so they can be posted and sent to the other board members. Held my "Welcome to Lancaster 1" meeting today. Should have had 13, but had 8, so must mail out packets to the others, but that will wait until I get back home.

Mailing my blocks tomorrow and thinking about a hair cut.

Good morning quilters

Last night I had a major breakthrough. I have a Hatfied&McCoy rift in one of my branches in New Zealand. It was the result of religious dispute over 100 years ago. 2 sisters and their families turned their backs on each other because one younger sister decided to marry a Protestant leaving her devoutly Catholic family. Last night I connected the daughter (95 year old) and the grandson of the other sister. The 2 families spoke for the first time last night and made plans to meet in 2 weeks. Yea!!

A beautiful day planned today. Stay safe and healthy

Linda- that is a lot of rain!

Ginny- happy belated birthday.

My chorus had an outdoor concert last weekend. We had been rehearsing outside since March and via Zoom. It was good to get back to singing.

DH & I are camping at Myrtle Beach for a week. We typically come here in the spring and the fall. This is our shake down trip in our new camper. The camper is 5 ft shorter than our previous one. So far no problems. Its interesting to remember where we put things, and deciding if thats really the place we want them. While the temperatures are good so far, it is windy! I dont know how much I will be sitting out on the beach.

We ended up with 4.1 inches of rain as of 630 this morning. Haven't seen my rain gauge that full in a long time! It's still supposed to rain today. We have asparagus ready to pick but will sink if we try!

Next week, our schedule at Jazzercise is changing to 715 - 815 a.m. instead of 830 - 930. I'm looking forward to that. It hadn't gotten moved years ago from 815 - 915 because she thought maybe people that had kids in school would come. Well, that didn't happen and our teacher for that class is married to a farmer and at least for summer, wanted it moved up. It works great for me, once I get used to it. As hubby is at shop, it didn't matter if I came in late but this will just be so much better. And, if we ever get to have quilt guild workshops again, I'll be able to attend 3/4 of the Jazz class before I go to the workshop and not miss like I used to have to do.

Linda, you are right. Sorry Meg. Yup those little mowers can be a real work out. We made it to 87 today and I had to turn on the air conditioner downstairs to get rid of the moisture. The rain always seems to come at the worst time, doesn't it. But glad you got some.

Ginny, how nice you can participate in the shop hop. Will your son be bringing the new pup with him?

Julie, I bet the girls are happy to be getting some fresh grass, and the boys are jealous.

Meg, sorry I got you and Linda mixed up. Jacki and I have an ongoing fabric battle, sometimes it includes orphan blocks, too. She sent me a computer with some extra "packing material", so this is payback. I'm making a string quilt and will name it Packing Materials. You are so fortunate you can work on your blocks while on the conference calls.

WG, it's nice to have help when reorganizing. I get so used to things the way they are and fresh eyes are handy.

Carrie, you got me wanting some banana bread. Gotta find a keto recipe.

Today was another busy spring cleaning day. Dusted baseboards and moved all the furniture in the living/dining rooms and cleaned under it. Broke out the leaf blower and cleaned the upper and lower decks in the back, and the front porch and walk. The grands came and helped me move furniture in the sewing room and then put together another shelf unit for me and went through all their toys and sorted them to give/keep while I made dinner. I did get the tucks on the back of the rocket quilt (there were only 2 thank goodness) and got it trimmed and ready for binding. Tomorrow I'll do that.

Linda - that is a lot of rain! We had snow this morning.

This morning I had my labs drawn and then went grocery shopping. This afternoon, I sewed up 10 of 18 heart blocks. After supper I worked up 15 ripe bananas and made 8 loaves of banana bread.

Everybody, you do realize that my hubby and I sell and service lawn mowers for a living? I was just making an observation, I'm no longer as strong as I used to be. Someone will come along and pay us $75 for it and it will be a win win. I don't really HAVE to trim at home as hubby handles all that. Just thought it would be fun to try. I used to love push mowing. Not so much anymore.

The rain has been missing us and we thought sure we were going to be begging for a rain but before noon, it started sprinkling and while we were at home for lunch/nap, it started pouring HARD! When we went back to work, the rain had run in under the garage door in the showroom and went a good 3 ft. outward and ran along the wall about 20ft. We were stepping in 2" of water when we walked in. Took a good 15 minutes to push the water all outdoors. Hubby had to make a trench to guide the water away from the door/sidewalk. Hopefully we don't get a downpour like that tonight. I'm betting we had 2" over the lunch hour. When I checked the rain gauge after I got home, we had 3.4 inches. There is water standing in the field that the farmer planted yesterday!

Hi Quilters. I'm just taking a minute here to say "hi." It has been a busy week and will continue to be one. DGD is sorting strips for me tonight for the exchange. I'll make a block so she can visualize. It reminds me of my ex. He couldn't look at a piece of fabric and see something. It had to be finished.

Carrie, I'm sorry you are having a hard time with your doctors. Hopefully you will find one that will meet your needs and help you in the ways you would like. I'm sure your clients will enjoy the masks. It is harder now that it feels like the end is in sight. Hopefully we can all put the masks away or do something with them.

Julie, you certainly stay busy. I'm sure you don't need more lambs at this point so it's good the boys and girls don't play together. I hope you got everything on your list done.

Meg, it sounds like you are going to help the man even though he should be able to figure things out. Hope your bees enjoy their new home and are able to settle in easily. It is interesting to watch the beekeepers here. My next door neighbor had bees. I think he still does, but he moved so I don't see him as often. They are very much into healthy and natural foods.

Glad you got a good walk . It is nice to have some good weather.

Bev, sounds like you are having fun getting ready for the mini retreat. There is always something to do, especially when you have more than one household you are maintaining.

I like having matching totes but whenever I get more they don't have the ones I used before. I now have several different ones. It is fun. This weekend I'm watching DS's four children. The girls are part of sewing camp and they helped me a few years ago when I reorganized my sewing room. I think I'll have them help again. if we get time. If not, we'll do some Accuquilt cutting and get some things ready for summer's camp.

Linda, sorry you tried out the mower. I think the newer ones are easier to use, but I don't think I want to ever do a push mower again. Had one when I was living home and it was a bother. My current one is not self propelled and my grandson won't use it. He brings one from his house to use. I enjoy having him mow and he likes the money. It is a win for both of us.

Ginny, I'm glad you and DH are having fun in your other home. It is nice to have the kids nearby. Sorry allergies are bothering DH. It is a challenge for many this time of year. I'm sure you are excited to have DS visit for DGD's birthday. It will be nice to have him there and your family together.

I love shop hops but have avoided them as I want to get through some of my stash and get things done. There's always something to do and I have to tend the sod that we put down Saturday. Have a great day.

Ginny - Happy Belated B-Day! I love all of the flowers you picked. The swamp magnolia we planted last year is doing great and I'm so excited for it to bloom.

Linda - We opted to mow the lawn by wallet when we bought our place. I am so glad that DH and I don't have to do the push mower/weed whacker combo any more.

Carrie - Making masks was the worst. I made enough for the extended family and was done. And they can wash them or wear disposables as needed.

Bev - Isn't it funny how we spend so much time collecting scraps and then payback is now sending someone else home with a box of fabric?

Julie - What do you guys shoot? We haven't been to the range in forever.

The weather was great here today. I got in a 3 mile walk at lunch. And I had two conference calls so I was able to finish up the last of the Unity blocks and get them pressed. If there's nothing else good about this project, I've gotten some good quilting time out of it. LOL. We're headed on a boat ride with the neighbors this evening to be nosy and see what everyone else on the street has been doing on their house over the fall and winter. :)

Have a good evening all.

I leave the mowing for my DH. He uses our small tractor with 60 inch mowing deck. He finished our yard this afternoon.

I have been sewing and doing laundry today. I was able to get 2 sets of 13 blocks put together today. I then counted the blocks into 13 block piles.

The girls are out on pasture, but we trying to figure out how we can keep the boys in the main barn. We may need to put up some more fencing.

I am going to color for little while then knit and watch TV this evening.

Have a good evening.

Good morning ladies

Linda - I remember the push mowers. I had one for my first house and I did all the lawn maintenance. Now I leave all that to DH. He enjoys it and I am not sad to see it go.

My Delaware quilt shops have a shop hop going on. They do this every year with a theme for the area. This years theme is flowers. If you go to the store the patterns are free but they do make kits up with fabric. So first time they let you order the kits - as they want you to come into the store. But they've added precautions so you can order online.. So I ordered a black eye susie, a day lily and a magnolia. They had other flowers but I liked those best. Not sure what I'll do with them but no worries. Last years theme was lighhouses. I made a quilt out of it and loved it.

Have to finish up my swap blocks - I got distracted this past week.

DS is booking his trip for DGD first birthday. We are all now vaccinated so we're looking forward to a small family party. He will be able to meet his niece for the first time.. So exciting.

Stay safe and healthy

Bev, I believe it was Meg that's helping the man with the bees! emoticon

Girls, I realized the other day that I'm not as young as I used to be! Long story short, son in law gave us back the push mower we gave them when they got married as they don't use it anymore. I begged hubby to let me use it at home for trimming. This was a heavy mower and let's just say after only one pass around the house, it is going back to the shop to be sold!! You'd think a person who can do one hour of Jazzercise 3x a week and an hour of Barre 1x a week, could push a darn mower without losing her breath! Sheesh! My Fitbit said I did 27 flights of stairs (very little slope--Ha! Ha!).

Carrie, I only make masks if I have to. Agree. Don't like them and not making if I don't have to.

From the looks of the timbers around here, allergies are going to be starting here big time.

It was over 80 yesterday and 68 already this morning! I hate when summer skips spring!

Carrie, masks aren't my favorite either, but we do what we have to. I love your memory quilts. Finding a balance between MD and naturopath can be frustrating. Hope you find a good one.

Julie, sounds like a nice quiet (except for the gun club) day. Are the sheep on the pasture yet?

Ginny, hope DH's allergies don't give him any more trouble. I'm on my second round for the spring. Love the clothes story, sounds a lot like my MIL and me. She couldn't stand the girls to have any spots. Kids learn languages so quickly. I'm glad she is learning to sign young.

Linda, bees are so much work. Glad you are helping him get organized. That will make his life much easier. Love family game time. Don't have to be good, just have fun.

I have a friend coming in 2 weeks for a mini quilt retreat, so I am taking the opportunity to clean and reorganize my sewing room. Not a complete redo, but getting things done I have put off. I've got a box of fabric to send home with her (it's payback), and have just decided to toss a bunch of containers I've been using and go with the storage ones from WM so they will stack neatly. I've returned fabrics to the shelves, pulled some to be cut into strips, moved things and vacuumed baseboards. I have 2 machines that need to go in for service, so pulled them out. The grands are coming tomorrow to help me move more furniture to vacuum more. Did get my afternoon walk in and stopped to chat with a neighbor. After dinner I got a nice hot shower and washed my hair.

Time has completely escaped me. 2 weeks ago was a bad week and then we got ridiculously busy.

I was asked earlier in the year whether I'd help a guy who does bee stuff as his business if I could help out on weekends. He does cut outs and swarm captures and then raises those bees for honey and wax. He also raises queens and sells nucs to other beekeepers. He seemed like he was desperate for help so I agreed. I went out with him a couple weeks ago to do a cut out only to find out that he has existing help and that he doesn't really need more help, he needs to be more organized. So I think I'm just going to help organize his stuff over the next couple weeks and then let him know that I'm done.

I ordered two packages of bees to restart my own hives. They're in now and doing well. Both queens have been released from their cages and are laying. We won't take a harvest this year, it'll just be work to get the hives built up for next winter.

Last week I ended up watching my niece and nephew for several days while my sister and her husband were out of town. It's something that my mom would have normally done so it was a little sad but it was good to be able to spend time with them. I had them help me pull small pieces of fabric for the swap blocks one of the evenings. They had a good time pulling fabric and measuring them to make sure they were big enough for 2 inch squares. And then we played Uno and Monopoly and a game where you wear an inflated basked on your head while your teammate tries to toss a ball into it. None of us were any good at it but it was hilarious nonetheless.

We also broke down and got our driveway paved. I'm not a fan of asphalt but after the last flood the gravel really was a mud pit rather than a driveway.

The weather is great here this week and I look forward to reading back and seeing what everyone has been up to.

Good morning quilters

DH suffered from allergies really bad yesterday - so he laid down. Funny to see him not being the energizer bunny - but he's back bopping around this morning.

DH and I have different levels of messy clothes. If DGD dribbles a bit on her top or pants, he whips her up and changes her. Whereas it has to be a little more than that for me. Needless to say I ran out of clothes yesterday after he changed her 4 times. Hahah DGD and I escaped for a walk to the park.

We've been teaching her sign language and she's been getting quite good which amazes me. But without vocal skills it shows how smart they really are.

Good Evening,
My how time flies - it has been a week. I have been busy taking care of grandkids and sewing.
I got an order for 18 tartan masks and finished them (I hate making masks, but it was income).

Over the weekend I was able to work on my granddaughter's baby/toddler clothes memory quilt. I made 9 heart blocks. Today, I finished cutting out the pieces for 18 hearts. Now to sew them. Then to make the 16 connector blocks.

Last week, I noticed that I didn't have any more refills on my thyroid medicine. I contacted my naturopath to get him to write another prescription. He always had a NP write the prescription for him. She now requires to see the patient and the labs before she writes it. Therefore, he referred me to her. She is out of town, I don't really want to do that. I liked him, but there has been a few things that has made me uncomfortable. So, now I am in search of another naturopath. I called my MD and he will do the labs and write a prescription. He doesn't lean towards the natural side of things though. Frustrating.

Julie, sounds like you are good for the week. Driving/riding can be more tireing than working.

Ginny, emoticon .

Today was another beautiful one. Haven't gotten groceries in 2 weeks and the cupboards were bare, so I did a grocery run this morning. After lunch I did laundry, burned trash, and finished quilting the rocket quilt. Still have to trim threads, square it up, and bind. Haven't inspected the back to see if there are any big tucks, but I fear there are. Oldest grand came over and helped me put together shelves and I have started organizing the sewing room.

I have several pillowcases stuffed with fabric trimmings that the animal shelter won't use. I hate to toss them, anyone have ideas?

Today started out sunny but wind and clouds have increased.

We have our dog and my car home, and our cupboards are full.

Now I am going to sit back and relax. About 9 hrs in the car yesterday has tired me out.

Have a good day.

Ginny, a cake that's beautiful and tasty, doesn't get any better. Hope you enjoyed your bum day.

Linda, today was beautiful for us, too. Nice change from the storms on Saturday.

Julie, how wonderful to spend time with your family. Glad you didn't tumble into the lake.

Today was beautiful for us after the storms yesterday. There were still many people without power, but should be back on by now. Watched church on live stream, then took a nice hike after lunch. There were 3 other couples on the trail, that is more than we have seen in a long time.

I just finished catching up on the things that have been going on. it looks like everyone has been keeping busy.

We had a nice trip to Michigan. We were visiting my brother and SIL, then my sister and BIL came over on Friday so the six of us spent Saturday together. We celebrated Dave and Rod's birthdays, Rod turned 60 and Dave will be 70. The water was down so we were able take walks on the beach of Lake Michigan. I was picking up a stone and lost my balance and almost fell in the lake. Fortunately only my knee got wet and my jeans were dry by the time we got back.

Tomorrow will be a little busy, picking up the dog, the car and getting groceries.

Have a good evening.

Good morning, it looks like it's going to be a beautiful Sunday!

Yes, Bev. The geese left a gift or two on the roof of the garage. The doggone dove left gifts all over the railings of the deck. I'm guessing he/she has friends because we have a large deck!

I got 1 more block completely done and the second has two more seams and then 1 left!

Linda, maybe everyone was home doing yard work yesterday. I love watching the wildlife in the yard, but the geese are not welcome. They poop on everything.

Ginny, was that the sunflower cake? It looked wonderful.

Today was rainy and stormy off and on. We did get in our two walks and did a bit of work in the yard. Oldest DD and the grands came over for game night and brought pizza. They got me a low carb one!

Good morning quilters

2nd shot of Pfizer is now in my arm. Again amazed at how quickly and efficiently FEMA handled it. Yea! - Now I just have to wait 2 more weeks.

DH is back and trying to retrain me - hahah I tease him a lot and enjoy pushing his buttons.

Had a small birthday celebration yesterday. Bought a chocolate cake with orange cream - OMG so delicious. I found people can either make a great chocolate cake or it's not so good. So always leery when I buy one from the bakery. But this was awesome. Even my SIL who doesn't enjoy cake went back for 2nds.

Bev, not too many tillers come in anymore but probably a good idea! emoticon Lawn mower tires are sometimes rough too!

We had a weird day yesterday. Everyday this week except the day it snowed have been crazy busy. It was sunny yesterday and we thought sure we'd be busy but had very few interruptions. Not complaining because the slow days let me catch up. It was just strange.

I believe my yard is becoming an animal preserve! Tuesday morning when we had the 29 degrees and frost, the 2 geese that usually go to the pond at the Golf Club next door, landed on our garage/family room roof. I came outside and they're just sitting there honking at us! They stayed at least longer than I did. Didn't even fly off when I took the car out of the garage. This morning, there was a dove perched on our deck railing.

I'm 3 blocks (in progress) from being ready to send my blocks to Ginny. Hoping to finish this afternoon since it's supposed to be raining and we won't be outside.

Linda from Central Illinois

My March goals are:

1. Track more (at least 21 days)
2. Lose 2.1 pounds, at least. (I gained weight in February--this has to stop)
3. Continue to exercise 3 to 5 times a week
4. Work on organizing sewing room better.
5. Continue to put together my Grassy Creek tops and get ready to quilt them.
6. Quit mindless snacking.

Linda, hubby said recommend your customers remove and lubricate their tiller tires once a year.

Pam, the blocks will be fine.

Ginny, enjoy your weekend. You do have a busy weekend planned.

Today was our usual last day at the farm. Changed linens, washed clothes, vacuumed and headed home after lunch. Then planted tomato plants and cedar trees, trimmed some dead limbs, and washed all 3 vehicles. It was a busy day and I'm very tired.

Ginny - thank you! I have been working on them and I still have a few places that are off by a scant 1/8”. I will send them and the ones that can’t be used send back to me. I will just trim down to 13.75 or 13.50. It is a learning curve for me.
Enjoy your weekend😊

Pam - send me the blocks. I can work with them. Enjoy your 2 weeks off. Working with small pieces are a challenge.

Today is friday and the start of my weekend. Have a lot planned today and the kids are coming over for dinner. I want to mulch my fron garden and get to the post office too.

Lots planned and I got a late start so I have to get busy.

Stay safe and healthy
