I dont agree with taking a baby away for 14 days unless the mother is deathly ill. They say babies have antibodies when born so why? I dont agree with a lot of stuff though. Carol

In Oregon where my daughter just gave birth - they tested both her and her husband the day before she went to have her child. If they had tested positive, the baby was kept for 14 days while the parents quarantined to not be infectious. This was for the safety of the child who did not have immunities she needed at birth. After the infectious time the baby was returned to the parents.

These were all precautions for the safety of the child.

Unfortunately, whatever positives may be on the "horizon"...there IS the typical "flu season" that usually arrives sometime in Oct.-Dec. And unfortunately, there is great doubt that covid-19 will be "over & done with".
emoticon

We did the same thing in our state--called the hospitals where full on "gloom & doom" was being reported, only to hear that the REALITY was quite a different story. Truth was NOT was spoken on the 4, 5 & 6 pm newscasts. Rather a twisted story w/ bits & pieces of true happenings, but certainly none were "overrun" and parking people in the halls.
emoticon

Just heard a TRAGIC happening... An acquaintance had gone to the hospital w/ concern for a mini-stroke (TIA). They did a covid test (WITHOUT RESULTS BACK), and sent her to the covid-19 unit. Seriously?!? -- Was it a better choice to intentionally expose her and cause her to get covid???? More money for the hospital???

I agree on the assumptions that are killing us! ANd I have a different perspective as well Bev. Its all over the news that Florida has had the worst rise in cases of any state. However, in my county, 1% of those tested are positive and 12 deaths out of 200,000 people in the county. Now, my husband works in a funeral home and certainly is aware of the number of deaths and what is going on. On saturday he went to the hospital 4 times to pick up dead people. While riding the elevator with the security guard, asked if the ICUs were full. And he said absolutely not. So what is being reported is doom and gloom. The newspapers grasp any sort of bad news and run with it. This scares people who now wont even leave their homes. I will admit though, that everyone is wearing masks now.
A DR from the U of FLorida was on video saying that even though the cases were rising, the death toll was reducing considerably. I look at the deaths vs sick. I'm hopeful that we have peaked in numbers to test positive and that things should start developing into herd immunity soon. If that doesnt happen, then another shut down is possible.
We are slated for our kids to go back to school. My granddaughter is to head off to Troy University on Aug 8. Dont know how that is going to turn out. Kind of wish they would delay this semester and let her go online.
We are never going to agree. We are individuals and we just need to respect where people are. CArol

I just wanted to share what a young lady who is a good friend of my daughter posted yesterday on Facebook (I am sharing with her permission). This is a young lady who is in very good health and is a health care worker. This is a "mild" case. This, in my father-in-law, would be the end of him due to his underlying health issues.

6/18 I started to not feel good. Allergies had been crazy and I couldnít shake this terrible headache. I thought I was getting a sinus infection.

6/23 I felt bad enough that I decided to call into work, which I always beat myself up for, so I did a virtual doctor visit to get a doctor note. Based on his recommendation, I got tested for Covid-19, but he gave me some antibiotics for the sinus infection we both agreed I had.

4 days later they called me and told me I tested positive. I was given a doctor note that said I could return to work after the general 14 day period. Luckily my employers have told me to stay home until Iím symptom free, but thereís little to indicate when that could be...

Itís now been 3 weeks and I still donít feel good. Iím exhausted/fatigued, canít taste or smell, have an almost constant headache, slight cough, low fever that comes and goes, and a weird tightness/wheezy-ness in my chest like Iíve been running, which I havenít done much of since my high school track days lol.

But then in my neck of the woods, many medical personnel are laid off because there is nothing to do. (my neighbor...my friend's neighbor, etc. etc.)
-- Testing "positive" is NOT a death sentence. 80% + come through this whole virus infection without the world ending. -- My 70's neighbor & 19 of her friends/acquaintances came down with it in March, just as things were shutting down in our state.. It "knocked her down" for a couple of weeks, and now she is back to doing what she's always been doing. Stronger because of it. None of her acquaintances were hospitalized.

Obviously, some areas have more issues. -- I'm perfectly fine with going back to school. How else do we get some inroads into "herd immunity"?! I'm a substitute teacher. I'm available to take over. For the most part, it's just not a "big deal" for most kids. They may have something similar to a head cold.

Too many people that I know, have way too many health issues. I guess that's what builds the fear.
But it sure would be nice to hear on the T.V. that for the most part, they were WRONG with their predictions...their models... their "shut down everything" because someone might die.

Still...more people die from the regular flu than what this virus has brought in the state of WA.

I would have to spend 10-30 min in close proximity with each of 240 people to come across ONE that might be carrying covid. Masks might help those that are sick?! -- But they compromise both the mental health and the physical health & immune system of those who insist on wearing them.

It's summer time. This isn't "flu season". Get outside. Get some sunshine. Enjoy time with friends. We are SOCIAL creatures and NEED to interact.

Today, I spent time with TWO ICU nurses from central OR. Other than feeling like a hug was too much contact (their feeling due to their close proximity to illness), we enjoyed an outdoor "catch up" for the first time in several years, since the one moved out of the area. (Used to be neighbors...)

Life is meant to be lived! When it's my time to go, then that is what will happen. I'm not going to make drastic changes because "something might happen". -- Most everybody gets into a car to go places. Every time you take to the road, "something might happen" and you might not make it home. I'm not going to focus on the insanity in the world around me. I'm going to LIVE as best I can...loving my family. Finding work to do. Giving and sharing where it is needed. I am NOT the ruler of my destiny....

I have a different perspective. The tole of the virus isn't just in deaths. Hubby's hospital is very short staffed because staff have tested positive and are quarantined at home, non-covid patients requiring higher level of care have no where to go because hospitals are full, PPE is rationed, and medications are on back-order. And people are still going to "COVID parties".

This is how hubby spends 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. He removes his shoes at the door and changes clothes as soon as he gets home. I have an elderly mother to take care of and don't want her exposed. We wear our masks, wash hands, sanitize surfaces, and do our best to social distance. It is inconvenient and uncomfortable at times, but I'm willing to do anything I can to protect friends and family.

If my grands go to school and one teacher tests positive, do all her students have to be tested and/or quarantine? How about the other teachers? How about one student testing positive? Where will you find substitute teachers? I'm not willing to take that risk. Deaths are not the only measure of severity.

Our governor has continued to open up the state and major cities are creating their own "requirements". He isn't watching the number of cases or deaths, he is watching the number of hospitalizations, which I completely agree with. His point is to continue to live but yet not overwhelm the health care system. Honestly, our whole state is about at capacity with ICU beds being full. What do we do when they are full??

We continue to wear masks at work (as required by our owner) but how much longer do we do this? Forever? I hate wearing them but I do so to keep my job.

Berry I am happy where you live do not have as many out breaks. I pray that continues. One size does not fit all for sure.

Unfortunately not all of us are as lucky as you. This virus IS crippling areas of the country. People in my neighborhood have died and others recuperating after tough bouts of this virus.

It is a small inconvenience for me to wear a mask to reduce my chance of falling ill.

Stay safe and healthy.

I enjoy reading your rant Berry and agree with most of it. We need to be let out of the corral to fend for our selves. We have 11 deaths in our county of 200,000. Latest one was a 24 yr old woman who weighed 300 lbs. Now, I only know this because hubby works at a funeral home. Did she have underlying conditions? Did she wait too long to see a doctor? And at 300 lbs, my Lord. We dont know. People are on opposite sides of the fence. And if you dont agree, they get mad. All they see is the rise in cases due to people getting tested. They dont see the huge negative numbers, only the positive few. Praying this gets over soon. Keeping people down only creates havoc. carol

@4DOGNIGHT -- You've been "spot-on" on many of your observations & comments!

In our state, we have an idiot gov'r who is managing to do great damage to our economy! -- Just in my county, we have nigh on to 500,000 people and 33 deaths. He is refusing to let the whole state move ahead and "froze" our phase movement. -- We are only in Phase 2.

My sister in Chicago, in June, had well over 1000 cases just in her zip code. And there were over 1200 cases in her church's zip code. And as of this month, they are on Phase 4.

There is absolutely NO sense in the insanity and lack of leadership. The control continues to hold people down. -- I will not wear a mask. There is no point for healthy people to put their own health and immune system at risk by wearing one of those pointless things. (In our state, a LACE face covering is "acceptable". So is a napkin. If that's the case, then it truly is without rhyme or reason!)

We are told something different virtually every day. (I completely quit watching the news on April 1. I was DONE being made out to be a fool.) There is no clear evidence nor support for the changing and removing of freedoms in order to control & dictate.-- If good people do nothing, this all will only continue to erode the RIGHT TO CHOOSE.

Until someone can explain why it's okay to spend night after night in the neighboring state (34 days & counting!) as a mob & destroy all the things being defaced and torn down, not to mention shootings!...but it's NOT OKAY to sing in church, then I will throw the whole "baby out with the bath water" and say it's a WHOLE LOT OF NONSENSE.

Yep. I'll get off my soap box now. Sorry for the rant. But I really am tired of people not asking questions & buying the garbage being handed down by mayors, gov'r's, people claiming medical knowledge (but no real proof for all their yo-yo-ing around!).
emoticon

* I have several Dr. acquaintances. NONE of them think this is "all it's been cracked up to be". One of them refuses to wear a mask. Another could care less about "social distancing". All say that school should be in session.

** And, I will say that I truly don't care whether or not there are 500,000 "new" cases. (Or people testing positive.) -- It is the number of DEATHS that should matter...! AND they are inflating those and using all manner of STUPID ways of counting. (More money for "more" cases, whether or not they actually died of covid.) -- Our state had to "rescind" numbers since they "got caught". It's happening more than not.

Hospitalizations are going up here which is what our governor has not wanted to see happen but yet he won't close things back down or require masks. I wear a mask at work but usually don't in the little local stores (since our numbers have been so low). I need to get a new cell phone this week and have had to make an appointment to do so. We are holding steady at 1 case.

It's been interesting at the few stops we've made for facilities, or gas. So far we've hadn't had to get any food as we packed for the trip. The hotels are about 20% fill. DH and are religious about wearing masks whenever we go out in public. Other's about 50-50 wear masks.

Yes we've had some strange looks while wearing our masks by some, but I don't care. It's a simple thing to do and IMHO if it increases my chance of not getting this disease now than great. Being from the NE which was hit hard I know of too many people who got it, got really sick and some died. We have to turn this around.

I keep seeing the numbers infected climb and much scarier the number of deaths climb. It's just so sad.

We already expect to be in isolation for 2 weeks after we arrive. Social distancing is a must and I can wait to hold our grandbaby if it protects him/her.

Julie, prayers for your town and hope it doesn't spread. And thank you WG for your kind words. I'm not that gracious of a person, too outspoken. I speak my mind and it gets me in trouble. But I'm usually venting, seeking a solution to something that is troubling me. With the uptick in cases, I know it is important to mask up and protect others. My son works for a boat rental place and is yet to wear a mask. He encounters many visitors to the area through this but I can't imagine him wearing a mask, out in the heat like he does. Depending on the Lord to get us through, but not enough. Cannot wait to go back to church. Carol

Carol, I'm so glad that the numbers are improving even while the rates of infection are increasing. That is so important in managing an illness that you cannot eliminate. Having a better handle on treatment, more equipment to treat, a better understanding on transmission and protection all are going to help us going forward.

I'm glad that you will be able to attend your church in a couple of weeks. I'm still not going but having surgery in a week, I want to make sure that I can be there.

I appreciate that even though you hate wearing the masks and don't think they help that you respect others and do so. It is part of your innate kindness that makes you a wonderful person. I admire you for the way you have dealt with this time of stress and fear. You have taken your own path and have been careful but also have lived as you wish. I also admire that you have been careful with those who feel they need to be more cautious. That is what the entire country needs to get through this.

So glad that you are able to get out more and enjoy your life. Hope you get in some peaceful time today.

We have our first case in our town of 250. We had been fortunate to not have any for this long as just about everyone in town is an essential worker and have had to go to work. Our marketing director at work was tested yesterday afternoon. emoticon

I watched VP Pence, Fauci and Birx today. The numbers are rising in the southern states including Fl, Texas and Arizone. So some restrictions are coming back and I'm okay with that. The biggest restriction we had at our church was to call in for a reservation. I refused to participate in that one so we havent gone. I can live with a mask and sitting away from the others. They have relaxed that restriction of RSVP so we will likely go back July 9 when they will have one service. Another good news is that 2 months ago we had 2500 deaths a day in country, now down to about 300 per day. And pneumonia was the biggest cause of death and now that has gone down to normal rates. So we now know how to treat the virus and younger people are getting it but not dying. It was interesting. Carol

WHAT WOULD JESUS DO? I think we have all taken our eyes off the ball here on this virus situation. I apologize if you aren't a believer but I have to say this. What would Jesus have done in this situation? Stayed home and isolated himself, shut down the churches? No, he would have gone out and sought out the sick and the needy. He would have found a leper and healed him. He wasn't afraid of the leper like others were! He went right up to him without any regard to his own welfare. Its time for us to come out of our homes and back into church. We are blasted with negative virus information all day long. There is plenty of positive info out there but we only hear the negative. Start looking for the positive. To me, in our county, only 6 have died. Even though the numbers are going up because people are getting tested, they are not dying. Is it any worse than a bad flu? We get colds and flu and we survive. Some will get sick but you will recover. What Would Jesus Do? Carol

Bev, is that in your county or the state of Alabama? Florida has had increases as well. I still look at my own county. However, what is the answer? People that have been locked down are starting to have mental health issues. It seems that none of the protesters in a variety of states are concerned about it. I just feel like its time to go out, take precautions and wear a mask if you feel it is necessary. Sun and warmth are supposed to take care of it but who really knows. Carol

We have had our two highest daily increases on Wed and Thurs this week. Almost 850 each day. I was afraid of this with all the crowds on Memorial day.

I agree Julie. People have to realize there will be a spike in cases but it doesnt mean you will die from it. There are a lot of factors involved and you just have to take the precautions that suit you. Carol

We completely opened up May 1. We had a spike in cases then it leveled off then it's rising again. We increased by 146 yesterday. However, I think we have to remain opened up for both the economy and to build a tolerance.

My husband went to our long time doctor yesterday and the Covid discussion came up. He scoffed at the whole thing. He said flu cases last year far and away exceeded then number of Covid cases in our county. Its certainly no worse. And getting tested is a waste of money he said.
Its time to open back up or we will never get there. There will be a rise in cases as people go about. I'm waiting to see what happens in those states where people have run amok. Carol

So are Oklahoma's. We hadn't had a case in our county since May 7 and this week we've increased by 2.

I was looking at the site you provided Ginny and this from Dr Fauci stuck out at me ---

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nationís top infectious disease specialist, says that those differences make it impossible to use a one-size-fits-all approach during the pandemic.

ďWe have to realize that we're a large country that has outbreaks in different regions, different states, different cities, that have different dynamics, and different phases in which they are in,Ē Fauci said in late April.

This country is very large and what happens in Miami and Orlando in my state, does not happen where I live in the panhandle. The whole handling of shutting down the entire country was a huge mis step in my opinion. But maybe lessons learned so if it ever happens again, we wont have to do it except those states more congested. I think taking care, social distancing, masking at your own pace is what we needed. Thank you for posting this Ginnie. I needed somewhere to post my feelings.

(I am going to write and post this but please, I request no responses. If you want to respond to me, please private message me. I just want to explain myself.)

I'm back and I hope I can be good. In defense of my church, I am far and away off in normal land. The few people who are adament about restrictions when reopening the church are the more conservative ones. We are clashing because they want to keep us locked down and I am ready to relax rules a bit.
I went to quilting yesterday. I walked in without my mask on. A good friend whom I cherish said to me, "Carol put on your mask or I am going to leave." So I put on my mask. We all wore masks and then she had to leave the room to go to the office, and as soon as she was out of the room, half of the rest of us took our masks off. Those still afraid, or compromised with other conditions, kept them on. Even our 94 year old took hers off. As soon as she came back, we put our masks on. We respected her request. But now, she and another woman are putting the restrictions onto the church opening. And our Pastor is conservative as well. I just have to love them, and either participate or stay away. I know there are differing opinions out there. And that is why I suggest, do the research. There is plenty of new research out there. Search your county for numbers of cases and numbers of deaths. If the deaths are low and in a certain age group, maybe you can relax your requirements. Its up to you.
Blessings to all of you and I love this group!
As I said. (Please don't respond to this message) PM me if you want to talk. Carol

I know that the Covid virus has affected many of us in different ways. As we are a worldwide team - I thought I would post 2 links I find helpful to keep informed of it's progress.

This first one is for US participants - if you scroll to the bottom you can see the trend of your state over the last week www.cnn.com/interactive/2020
/health/co
ronavirus-us-maps-and-cases/

This one allows you to see the overall stats by state - or you can switch to the tab for World and see how US is with other countries.
www.worldometers.info/corona
virus/coun
try/us/

There is so much misinformation out there on this terrible disease. And we continue to learn more every day. My advice to you - is do what you feel will keep you and your family safe. No-one knows your personal life better than you.

My husband and I primarily keep isolated because we care for his 93 year old mother. I would not do anything to jeopardize her health. So that means we don't socialize as much as we did before. That's okay with me if it means that some of the people I love have less a chance of contracting this disease.

I have a number of family members who work in the health industry. I commend them and hope they remain safe while we continue to battle this disease.

Please stay healthy.

~ Ginny
