I went back to the quilt shop today to check on my sewing machine. I hope I can get it back on Saturday. Anyway, there were 2 ladies sitting at a big table in the back, quilting by hand and another walked in. I checked out their website and they have groups and classes. Definitely something to look forward to. I saw a muda? quilt kit that was beautiful but $76. Not in my budget just now but they said they are going to have a big sale. Yippee!

I love Ginny Beyer's designs. I bet her shop is fabulous. You never know, though. At a party, a woman voiced her disappointment in the Fons and Porter store (my husband calls them Hans and Frans!), so when people have multiple quilting business outlets, you never know which gets the emphasis. Even pumped up Hans and Frans have only 24 hours in a day.

It is lovely to share our addiction with family. My mom introduced me to quilting so we enjoy egging each other on about starting and finishing projects...and are our own worst enemies at quilt shops b/c we always want some of what the other is getting :)

As for hitting up the quilt shops....oh, what's a few more UFOs anyway? ;)

Keep on running!

My love of sewing was coordinated with being able to pump the treadle. I think I was about 9-10. Now my great grandmothers treadle sits proudly in my living room, there is always that option of using it when the power goes out!

As far as dying with the most fabric, many of us have had this addiction for many, many years. I don't even know how many buckets full of fabric I have...but I bet I could open a shop without purchasing more! LOL

Yay!!! I'm so happy your granddaughter wants to learn to sew!
And fabric shopping!! Woohoo!!
I was at my fabric shop yesterday, they were having a serious sale, so I bought 4 pieces that coordinated and were two yards each. I will make a quilt out of them one of these days..
I think we should all grab hands and go skipping to the fabric shop!!

FOURDOGNIGHT, how wonderful for your niece! I was a little girl like that... always wanted to learn how to make things, knit, crochet, tat, sew doll clothes and make dolls. a lot of the time I didn't realize that I could have learned... I thought it was out of my reach. I was thrilled when an old woman who babysat started teaching me to tat... alas, she never came back, but it made me realize I COULD learn these things. Seventh grade brought home ec class, and though the cooking didn't take, I loved trying to sew clothes, but was always a little off on choosing patterns that would flatter me (they always had those distorted, lonlegged drawings on the front!) and choosing the right fabric that would drape instead of look like a stiff barrel. Quilting is perfect...it doesn't have to fit or flatter the body! My daughter, 27, alas, paid a boy to sew her home ec project in seventh grade and even now goes to a tailor, begs me, or staples or tapes her hem! If I ever get a grandchild, we'll see if it skips a generation!

I love this thread and this group. I didn't realize I was such a fabric junkie. I'm a decorator and have owned my business for 25+ years so I get to dabble in fabrics all the time. But I've put sewing and quilting on the back burner as I dont' have time to devote to it. Now that I'm nearing retirement, I'm resurrecting my love. One of my favorite pastimes is going to the local Joann's and spending an hour or two just browsing and going through the pattern books and visualizing making something and leaving with nothing. Or I buy something and never open the bag or finish it if I start. What inspired me is my 8 year old granddaughter and her asking me to make something with her. She is fascinated by the sewing machine and things I can do so this is a new goal for me. I think she is old enough to learn to sew. I'll take her to the shop as well and get her to love fabric too. SHE WHO HAS THE MOST FABRIC WINS!

You are so lucky. The only quilting shop I live near has an owner who follows you around trying to sell you things. Not fun! I usually just buy online to avoid being bothered. Now isn't that a shame? I should just outright tell her!

How fun to find a shop filled with goodies that you didn't expect!!

I too am spoiled with many quilt shops in the surrounding area. Of course my favorite ones are 80 miles away.

And when it's too painful to get out, there is always "home delivery" ~ fabric & chocolate! LOL

LKWQUILTER- I sure hope you LOVE where you live! I am totally spoiled with the number and size of quilt stores near me. I can't imagine living that far from any quilt shops and community of quilters, classes or workshops. Here - I'm crying for you!!!

Wow what fun! There's nothing like a trip to the fabric store, all that color and texture. Sometimes it's too hard to decide and I get nothing, sometimes just the right piece jumps out at me and I buy. Sometimes I have a plan, sometimes I don't, but I love a trip to the fabric store.

I didn't buy any fabric but I was salivating and I'm sure I will go back. The coolest thing was the precut squares and borders, all color coordinated. I didn't know this place existed but I'll sure go back. I did buy a pattern for a fabric wallet. I am delving into making purses and I can tuck a wallet into it as well. Once I get my machine back. emoticon emoticon It sounds like fun. I have been unable to actually feel and smell the fabric from a quilt show. Are the ailes wide enough for a wheel-chair? Fat chance but it sure sounds like heaven to me.

Spectacular! Whether or not I can shop (too many UFOs and too much stash) is another matter. I do enjoy looking and usually shop anyway.

I took my sewing machine to the local quilting shop to have it serviced and I had not been in there since it changed owners. The place is FULL OF FABRIC! All kinds of quilting patterns and samples, fat quarters, sewing machines, etc. You name it! I was in heaven. Stacks of color coordinated fat quarters, etc. etc. precut squares and binding. Oh, my. I am signing up for a beginning quilting class to refresh my skills. I'll keep you posted as to how it comes.
