I haven't been too active recently but only because I've been so busy in real life (and hanging out with wonderful positive people) that I've not had much free time. This time of year (holidays), you find the two camps (the grumpy, bah humbug people and the happy-go-lucky, spirit-filled people). Volunteer opportunities abound and you nearly always find the latter type there. Yesterday I volunteered during the day and at night had dinner with my mentoring group...all positive, enthusiastic women and men. The two prior nights I had volunteer training and a full-member meeting at church. I find my "cup runneth over" with positive thoughts and feelings...from all angles. Somehow I find that a full load doesn't exhaust me, but rather gives me more energy. I love the holidays and I've learned to let go of perfection and to downsize. This year has been so easy because I don't worry about this or that. By having a plan and not buying into the commercialization of the season, I find myself enjoying each day to its fullest. I have my list ready for buying and will go shopping in the middle of week to get it done. We've downsized the gift buying and increased our giving to those in need and giving back to the community in various ways.
I hope everyone is well and remembering to also take care of themselves (that's one of the harder things for me right now).

I hope each & every one of you had a really nice Thanksgiving. We spent the day at my step daughter's home with her, her husband & 2 1/2 year old son. They had other people there also. Everything was wonderful except one of their female friends who likes to flirt with all the men. She has a 2 year old son who was very active & she had a low cut sweater on so when she stooped over everyone could see her breasts. She made sure & get close to the men & bend down. She dresses like this normally. I just pray for her.

Greetings, all! I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. Mine went pretty well. I got in a short workout, drank 4 or 5 glasses of water and only about 400 over on calories so I call that a success! It was a nice day with family...DH and I went to visit his sister in the hospital after the big meal. Poor thing does not seem ready to go home yet. If she isn't back to the group home by Tues at the latest, she loses her room and we have to find a new place. That happened before and it is very difficult on her emotionally. We are praying she gets released before that happens...Tomorrow we are starting on the wedding guest favors for my youngest son's wedding in May. They are having rustic decor so we are hand-painting river rocks with words and decorations for each guest. DS is very artistic so it will be a personal gift. The idea is that people can use them in their garden, or as a paper weight or such. I will post pictures later...That's about it for me. have a wonderful weekend, all! -C

Happy Thanksgiving Sparklers!!

Today was our actual day of feasting. I am so thankful for my loving family who helped me decorate the inside of the house & put up the tree (I've really pared down, but I have loads of things yet). My daughter says "Mom never met a decoration she didn't love and keep forever" When we put up the tree...it's a "remembering tree"...a white star with glitter that my older daughter made in the 1st grade; several ornaments made by younger daughter in Brownies, popsicle stick reindeer, every ornament has a story.

Food was really secondary...being together was the real blessing.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful thanksgiving!

Looking forward to tomorrow.
Will be sharing the day with friends.
Am bringing two Spark friendly dishes.

Didn't sleep well last night.
Had planned to go to the gym.
It just isn't happening until an afternoon nap.

Yes. Happy Thanksgiving to all here in the USA. A day like today if you are like me can be tricky. The concentration is on getting ready for the meal tomorrow. Today I really have no regular food that's nit hiding behind the now thawed turkey and the cranberry relish in the making. I TRIED to grab that apple with no luck and found something not as good for me.

I am thankful for this team that keeps me upbeat! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Lizzie's bday was a success. Cannot believe my baby is 7 already! Where did the time go?

Now I am planning for Thanksgiving. I am bringing a the unhealthy stuff lol. Why is it that I am the one that gets to bring all the desserts and goodies? Oh, right! I am good at them lol.

Now on a darker note, my good friend Travis is in need of prayers. He is doing much better today but Friday night he accidentally shot himself in the leg. His gun was defective. As he was taking the clip out to take it apart a bullet lodged itself into the chamber and it caused it to misfire. The damage is not as bad as they initially thought but he still has 2 holes in his leg, the entrance wound and the exit wound. There is no other damage other than a chip in his tibia. He is at UofM they have started him in physical therapy. They are saying he might come home tomorrow (Monday) at the earliest. If you could please send up prayers of healing for him I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Today is another day filled with gratitude.
Worked yesterday doing what fills my heart with joy, received a face peel and enjoyed the evening at home.
I say this all the time and it doesn't get old.

Cold but sunny here in Mid-Michigan. Good weather for my almost birthday Girl. Yes for those of you who know me well. My sweet angel girl Lizzie Anne will be 7 years old tomorrow. I have been very emotional about it too. I had my tubes tied after she was born and now I kinda wish I could have more. I so miss the baby stages. Oh well I have a sweet newborn nephew Jonathan Ray who was just born on Friday. I can enjoy him while he is still soo little.

Hope you are all having a wonderful day. I am off to bake bake bake and bake some more :-).

It's colder than normal here in Maryland. 42 now.. expecting to get up to 48. We were spoiled last weekend getting into the 60's.

I haven't been to Colorado since I was a teenager and we camped at Rocky Mountain National Park. So breathtakingly scenic. That's on my must see again list.

It is a beautiful day here in Colorado. It is supposed to get to 55 degrees today which is the typical temps for this time of year for Colorado. What is the weather like where you live?

My sister finally had the baby this morning. A little boy Jonathan (no middle named agreed upon yet) Myers. He is 6lbs 12oz and 18.5 inches long. He was born via C-Section at 11:20 am. Held 1st ever by his TT (that's me!) Plus I got to be the 1st to feed and burp him. He wouldn't let Daddy do it and Mommy was still pretty out of it from the spinal they did.

Voting is over so we'll see what happens next. Prayers for whoever is in office, I don't think it will be easy for anyone..federal, state or local.

We are getting fall weather this weekend (for us...really fall...only in the 60s...that's sweater weather!!). My foot & knee are doing better, but I strained my left oblique muscle...that's not fun and it doesn't resolve real quickly either. I get out of housework though emoticon no bending or twisting. However it is difficult getting up without pulling that muscle. I have wraps, some rubs, NSAIDs, even some pain killers (which I wont take unless absolutely necessary). It only hurts if the muscle pulls (sneezing, coughing, stretching it). Rest, ice & heat alternated, that's about it. So much for my Trick or treat 5K (I think I'm giving them up...I have gotten hurt somehow for 3 major things over the past few years).

Crystal...I hope they can alleviate your problem without surgery. Nerve pain isn't fun and different things help different people..don't think there is a one-cure fits all there.

Carol...hope your sinuses are better (tough time of the year for many of us). Hope you can find a more reasonably priced venue for the rehearsal dinner. Weddings are expensive, aren't they?

Well, my meds are kicking in and my eyes are getting tired.
Have a wonderful mid-week! Spark it up!!

Oh my goodness! I've been getting so many junk e-mails I've just been ignoring my inbox all together! I am finally playing catchup! I hope everyone is doing well. My prayers are going out to anyone on the East Coast. Michigan got quite a bit of wind and rain but nothing major thankfully.

My household has been passing a stomach flu back and forth like a game of hot potato. I am hoping that it has no hit us all at least once it is over with. I think this week will be full of cleaning and sanitizing.

I can't remember if I updated anyone about my hands so I will now. I do indeed have carpel tunnel in both hands. Dr. has me wearing splints when I sleep at night which has turned into not sleeping well at all. I go back on the 26th of Nov to have a check up. I think what they will do next is a nerve study to see what we should do next. I really hate the idea of having surgery and he is trying to make it so I wont have to. But, I am a bit of a negative ninny and I fear that it will come down to surgery sooner rather than later.

I am still doing my "It Works" wraps and supplements. I love losing inches (THAT STAY OFF!) and all I have to do is wear a wrap for 45 minutes once a week! I've lost over 20 inches total already :) Not sure about my weight as I've been avoiding Mr. Scale at all costs. Yeah I still don't like him. LOL.

Well I better get my stuff done the family is asking for tuna casserole for dinner. I better hop to it.

Greetings, all! I hope everyone is having a great start to the week. I am recovering from a sinus infection and starting to feel better. Tough last week, but only gained .6 lbs. so it could have been much worse. My oldest son flew back to NC. The youngest is staying with us temporarily. He is getting married in May and will probably find an apt. soon. He started a new job today that will last about a month. Then he has another new job after that. So now I have to get used to the new normal around here. We are working hard on wedding plans. I need to find a place for the rehearsal dinner that won't break the bank. I heard back from one place and they wanted $2,300 minimum for a private room with dinner. Yikes! i think there will be about 30 people to feed and was hoping to be under $1,000. I may be way underestimating, but I can't see paying $75-80/plate for a rehearsal dinner! The search will continue...Hoping you all feel well and have a great, healthy week! -C

Judy - what can I say but ouch. Keep moving the parts you can move.. lol. I think us women need to come up with something besides heels to get dressed up in. In Maryland we were scared during the high winds of Sandy but everthing stayed in tact. Some neighbors are without power here as are most of my family living in NJ. My highschool on the shore is still partially underwater.
Wacfit - That separation from your kids gets easier as they get older, if that's any comfort. It's a comfort, actually, when they settle down. My daughters and I are at that point. They will always need mom during the highs and lows and often inbetween.

I am scheduled to do a benefit walk tonight for lukemia and lymphoma. It will be coldddd. Wish me luck digging out my warmest long underware!

Greetings, all. I have been fighting a sinus infection, but seemed to have turned the corner on it now. My sons arrived late Wed night from NC. The younger one is getting married in May so he will be staying with us for a month or so until they figure out where they will be living. My older son will leave Monday very early to fly back to NC. I will miss him, but grateful to have one of them back to stay. Hope you are all having a great, healthy week!-C

Happy November, Sparkers.
Late sparking today but just wanted to jump in and let you know I'm thinking of you. The eating season is almost upon us (actually it probably has already started with Halloween).
I don't know how many of our members or their friends/family live on the eastern coast and were effected by Hurricane Sandy. Some probably do not have electricity. Know that prayers are being said for you by many, many people. Donations are being made to help those in need. When savage storms or other phenomena hit, it's hard to know what you can do and it almost makes me feel a little guilty that we are enjoying the best weather this week. All of my family and friends have weathered the storm with little disruption of their lives. A few friends in Virginia have some housing damage, but nothing that cannot be repaired and other friends in Connecticut have disruption of services although their homes are intact. The sheer enormity of damage as seen on the news is overwhelming. Everything else seems so trivial in comparison. But for those of us not in the wake, we must strive to move on. And that means recommitting to living a healthier lifestyle and getting our strategies down for the upcoming months.
Been a busy week here and today was long one starting this morning and continuing until now. On the bright side, all the nasty stuff has been ruled out on my physical ills. My foot problems stem from arthritis so it's a matter of finding what combination of treatments will keep it all under control..no surgery (yay). I have wide, boney feet and now I have to get new shoes to go along with the orthotics the dr gave me. Not that I wear heels anymore anyway, but my shoes need to be supportive. Cracked me up that the doctor said my shoes were cute (he even knew the brand...Merrell)......but I probably shouldn't be wearing this particular style any more. Life is so ironic at times. My foot is actually feeling better, but I twisted my knee awkwardly last night and it hurts a bit and is swollen. Then today I was reaching for something under my chair at a meeting and tweaked a muscle in my side. Geez Louise...sneezing or coughing or reaching hurts. Think I'll take my NSAIDs and my nighttime meds and go to bed. Surely I will feel better tomorrow...anyway I'm going to think like Scarlett O'Hara. Tomorrow is another day!!
Have a great one sparklets!!

Morning Sparkle Plenties!!
Well we got through our event yesterday with no injuries (thank you, God) and hopefully it was successful monetarily as well (we won't know that yet until all the monies are counted). I think I had mentioned that it was put together really quickly and had little publicity, but it was also the first time for this type of event. Christopher's Run last year was a motorcycle event. Christopher and his mother were killed by his stepfather in 2010. Christopher's family wanted to do something...so they decided to have an event and donate the money to a charity that helps domestic abuse victims (that's how I got involved...the charity I volunteer at weekly is transitional housing for homeless (up to 2 year program) and often the families who live in the housing are from domestic abuse situations although not all). Besides the runs, they had free breakfast for participants (and awards); bouncy houses for the kids, raffle items, silent auction...just a ton of stuff. I really liked this one bracelet among the many raffle items...it was handmade and was silver & purple for domestic violence awareness. Put all my tickets in that bucket. Didn't win it though. The silent auction had lovely stuff (but I hadn't enough money with me for that)...one of those bracelets were on there, too. The director of my charity won the bracelet in the silent auction. Then she came over to me and gave it to me (I've worked directly for her since I began volunteering there (about a year and half). I love what I do and love the bracelet, too. I've learned to accept gifts with grace...someone told me that to not do so is "to take my joy away"...and thinking about when I give gifts...she's right.
I'm still exhausted and my foot is really bothering me (calling the doctor tomorrow) from being on my feet for 7 hours straight. But what a wonderful thing...seeing the family putting this on in Christopher's honor, knowing the proceeds go to a wonderful charity and help so many people. All of the volunteers I worked with were wonderful, too...I knew a few of them...but met many more neat people. The more open you are to experiences like this, the more good you see in the world..something that helps keep you positive (because we all know just by watching the news, there are many awful things in the world).

If you've never volunteered before, check out opportunities in your community. Many times you can do a one-time thing (if your life is already crammed full) or a more regular thing...very often the commitment is only for a few hours weekly or biweekly. I have never, ever been sorry for volunteering even if it means getting up in the wee hours (I hate mornings) or if my foot hurts now (it was worth it). If you can't do something like that...practice random acts of kindness (take food to a neighbor, call someone who is shut-in, smile, be nice to a stranger). I'll guarantee you will feel better about yourself and the world. Just smiling can have rewards for you all day.

Happy Sunday, everyone.

Focus for today is getting back on track with everything Spark. Weighed in this morning and am 3 pounds over goal; time to re-focus. Also, very mindful of Hurricane Sandy that could cause our area a lot of problems. Best of luck to all of you who may be effected as well; stay safe! Pat

Greetings, all! Iím new on this team and not sure how many people are using this thread on a regular basis. I am hoping I just hit it on an off week and that more of you will be jumping in more often. It would be nice to have a place to stop by often and get and give encouragement to one another! Iíve read several of the recent posts so I will take my own advice and jump right in.

Deborah-Thank you for the welcome. Enjoy Tenn.

Judy-Thank you also for the warm welcome and comments on my page. Your fund raiser sounds like a lot of work, but a worthy cause. Good for you for volunteering!

Pat-I had heard a similar thing about gaining weight over the holidays. I sure canít afford to gain any. I just started losing after 20 yrs of gaining! I am doing a Christmas Challenge right now where we are trying to lose 1 lb per week until Christmas. I have been thinking that I should do another challenge that starts Christmas day through New Yearís and call it ďHold on for the HolidaysĒ where the challenge is just Ďto not gainí any weight during that time! This Christmas challenge should get me past T-day, and Christmas Eve/Day. But, there are always so many leftovers and cookies right afterward that I might need to keep myself in challenge mode until things are back to normal.

Peggy-Thank you also for the welcome. Who is the little cutie with you in your profile pic?

Beachgirl-Wow! Sounds like you did great on selling some gold! I agree, God is amazing!

VJH-Ouch! I hope your cat scan results went ok for you. emoticon

Lifeispurrect-Yay for Wisconsin! Where about are you? Iím just nw of Milwaukee county. Didnít we have the most beautiful fall colors this year? Somebody said they were a result of the drought. I donít know, but I thought they seemed more vibrant this fall.

I look forward to getting to know you all a bit better and hope that I can be an encouragement to you in your journey!-Carol

Afternoon Sparklers!! I cannot believe that October is nearing its end. I've been very busy lately (happily so, but fitting things all in is a bit of a challenge). Tomorrow I'm helping out at a domestic-violence-awareness charity fund-raiser (a run/walk & family fun stuff event) and I have to be on site and helping long before the 6:30 a.m. early registration. I drove out today to check out where the trailhead was (good thing, I would never have found it in the dark tomorrow morning). Pray for a successful event and that no one gets hurt during the walk/runs and bike ride...1K, 5K, 10K and 22 mile bike ride.

Pat...thanks for sharing about what you learned at the seminar. I really do need to be reminded of that...I just glanced at my calendar...and it's full of upcoming events (many of them food-centered).

Carol...nice to meet you and so happy you've decided to join us. Positivity is contagious and unlike negativity it energizes you!!

Deborah...have a great time in Tennessee.

I'm praying that the Atlantic hurricane will lose force and/or not make landfall. Everyone stay safe, but get prepared with emergency supplies just in case (a long time ago we lived in Mississippi and got through a hurricane or two..but were always prepared for the long haul if needed).

Don't know if I'll find any time in the next few days to get on Spark much...so for those who celebrate it...
HAPPY HALLOWEEN (give out all the best candy...it's a lot easier to resist those Nerds and Laffy Taffy...at least for me...than the Reese's cups)

Greetings, all! I am brand new to the team. Shamrock suggested I might be interested in joining an active, positive team...so here I am! My name is Carol, 53, happily married to my HS sweetie, and mom of 2 grown sons. My youngest is getting married next May. That's the Reader's Digest condensed version anyway!

I went to a Woman's Menopause seminar last night; very interesting. I learned some new things but also was impressed with myself that I have done enough research on my own experience to already have a number of facts they discussed. Be educated about your bodies! They also threw out the fact that the average weight gain is 7 pounds during the upcoming holiday season. Something to keep in mind - I know I don't want to gain any weight back simply because it's the holidays. I've worked to hard to reach maintenance and there's no dessert out there good enough to ruin that accomplishment.

Have a great day all, Pat

Self Respect - Just don't respond to Debbie downer's sad tails. React to positive things others say. Debbie should learn.. hopefully. I was probably a bit of a Debbie downer many years ago and my neighbor was the positive influence I needed.

Yeah for sunshine! emoticon

Raining [we need it] in central Indiana,
gray skies a few trees are showing off their colors.
I am happy to be near a new start.
cat scan this week to see if the bump on my head
is more than a stubborn bruise from the accident last year.
Is better to find out than to continue to wonder. emoticon

Trying to stay positive today as I am working next to Debbie Downer - has every physical ailment known to mankind. On another note, the sun is shining and I get to see my husband soon.

It's a beautiful afternoon in Wisconsin. They are predicting rain starting tonight but, for the daytime I'm enjoying the sunshine. I was able to get in a nice run. Right now, I'm enjoying a rare cup of afternoon coffee and a little time for me.

Wow, congratulations on the sale of the gold, that was a good result.

I lived in Indy 25 years, missing the fall right now. Have a beautiful week ahead.

It's a very beautiful day here in Indianapolis! The leaves on the trees are just amazing this year:) I have to share a positive thing that happened to me yesterday. It started out very bad with some money issues but then I went to one of those stores that buys gold from you (first time I'd been there) and got $320.00!! I was shocked! I also took a necklace in for my son and he got $210.00! What an amazing God I serve:)

Ok I'm going to jump on this bandwagon! It's 73 and WONDERFUL here in Michigan!! Great day for soccer practice. My Lizzie Anne's team is (in her words) Undefeatable. 2 more games and the fall season is over. Lets hope Saturday is nice too. Especially since, not only does she have 2 soccer games it's the Michigan Michigan State game. GO BLUE! I need to get to the store this week to get stuff to entertain the guests. I am thinking my not so good for you chip dip, a veggie tray, a fruit tray and some Blue and Maize cupcakes. Yep I will mix the healthy and the not so healthy emoticon I mean it's not often we do this kind of stuff. Plus I love making cupcakes as much as everyone loves to eat my cupcakes lol.

Hope everyone is having a blessed day.

It is cold and crisp here in Southern Maryland but going up to the low 70's later. I have one word for it... Layers
As I lose weight I am starting to wear layers (I never would before, I was big enough) so I can peel off the outer layer as it gets warmer.

I'm not where I want to be, But I'm not where I was.

It's a beautiful day here in northern Illinois (looks like we have a lot of Midwesterners!), though they're predicting rain later. I was hoping to get a walk in today, as well as hang out at the animal shelter and walk some of the dogs, aaaaaand go to the gym (nothing like overscheduling myself!), but I'm not sure if all that is going to work. Especially since there's also a prospective buyer coming to look at my father's house today, so I need to tidy up a little.
