1) Joining one of the monthly mileage challenges on various Spark Teams. I do 3 (Road Runners, Half Marathon, and 10K). In theory over 75,000 people will know if I fail at reaching my goal. That motivates me.

2) Signing up and training for a race. Nothing like having an event to train for to get your butt out the door, especially if it is for new distance.

SALTYCHOCOLATE - Thanks for getting that guy from Geico stuck in my head. I love it though. Wouldn't it be great to have a recording of him yelling at us to get out there and get moving? As long as there are no tissue boxes around for him to throw at us!

Posting on spark that I am going to do X. I hate coming back and posting I didn't do it. My HR monitor also helps. If I am at 459 calories I might as well go for 500.

What motivates me is knowing that I hardly ever finish up a run regretting that I did it. It also never hurts to have a race to work towards!!

I know you love me no matter what shape I am in Sharon, thanks a whole bunch. I tend to love myself more when I am slim, trim, and in better shape.

right now my motivation is my heart rate monitor. I have decided that I will burn at least 500 calories a day. the harder I work in a session the faster I get to stop exercising.

Yesterday I was walking on my treadmill while watching TV. the calories were so slow adding up so I started going up and down the stairs 10 times during commercials. 500 calories in 59:44. :-)

today I am taking it outside.

My goal (because a goal is very helpful in motivating me) is to be slim, trim and fit for a 1/2 marathon in Miami where I am meeting a whole bunch of sparkers!

Anotther thing I've found that helps is to reward myself for doing my workout. I'll even do something small, like not allowing myself to watch my favorite tv show until I've gotten my workout in. Usually, that will be enought to ge tme going.

Good suggestions! Also it helps to follow a training program, I used couch to 5k, then spark your way to 10k, and now Cool Running's half marathon program. Having something concrete -- knowing you have 6 miles instead of "knowing you should get out the door for 2 or 3" really helps. And having a race at the end keeps it rewarding!

Hey, LUV-2-RUN, whatever works! I'll try your idea, it works for you and you've already run 2010 miles this year!

If it's cold I'm not in the mood, so I pretend to be asleep until I get out and do a mile. Then I start to warm up. Just pretend to be sleep walking until you get out there! :) (Does this sound crazy? Maybe, but it works!)

I sometimes feel depressed...when I do I have a LOT of trouble with motivation...

But whenever I do not feel depressed I ALWAYS feel motivated.

Being accountable to my Spark teams! And also knowing that no matter how much I DON'T want to run, I ALWAYS feel better afterwards!

Motivation tools:
1. Money on the line. If I register for a race, I'd better train for it so I don't waste money!
2. Results on the scale and with the tape measure.
3. Results of events--always want to improve my times
4. The way I look in fitted clothes when I am fit
5. FOOD--the more I train, the more I have to EAT! lol

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. ~Colossians 3:23-24

I'm definitely motivated by results - if not my own, by other people's success too. And I try to set a routine and stick to it so even if I'm not motivated to workout or run, I do it anyway.

I often play Drill Sergeant to myself when I can't get myself out the door. "Get your butt out the door you lazy bum! What do you think this is mamby pamby land????"

Ok, so maybe I'm not quite so tough but sometimes I do just "kick myself in the butt" to get out the door.
No, I'm not suggesting you do any of this but I hope it made you laugh.

Signing up for a race always motivates me. But setting goals with my Spark Teams and accepting new challenges (like increasing monthly fitness minutes) helps me as well. But peer pressure is the best. Keeping up with my running partner is always good!

I'm seriously lacking motivation! I know i have it all in front of me and have had plenty of motivating experiences but I need something that sticks...I actually like to run, but I need help getting out that door!
