I ran a half marathon at night recently and didn't wear anything different, really. Well, I had a glow-in-the-dark necklace but that was more for fun than functional. There were so many people in the race and the streets were blocked from traffic, so I wasn't super concerned about safety gear.

That sounds like fun!! It sounds like you have what you need to be seen, so go enjoy the experience!

The only thing that hasn't been mentioned that I can think of is maybe run without music. Since it's dark you may want to hear any advice to is mentioned while you run...for example...watch out for that pot-hole.

I think it would be great if you can get a family memeber to go with you, but I don't think it necessary. There should be plenty of fellow racers around, as well as police and/or race volunteers if you need any help.

That said, do check into the race and make sure that it is well organized and don't sign up if you get the impression that safety isn't a primary concern for the organizers.

I think you should have a family member run the race with you, for safety sake...

I've run the same New Year's Eve race at midnight several years in a row. It sounds like you're usual night running gear should be more than enough. Remember that you'll be running in a pack, and the streets should be closed, so you should have less to worry about in terms of traffic than on a normal run.

I have only done one race at night and it was in the summer so it was warm. I did not wear or do anything differently. I liked it since it was racing at night for a change.

I am thinking of racing in the Fantasy 5K in Howell, MI the night after Thanksgiving. Although I've run in the dark, I've never been in a race in the dark. Is there anything special I should wear or carry? I normally wear a reflective vest and cap. I also have a flashy light from Road I.D.that I clip to my collar. Thanks!
