Today was my first day back to work. I used the stairs and found out that I am probably not as well off as my mind said I was. I think I will stick to walking a few more days. I think I will see how I feel over the weekend.

You sound like a machine to me if you already got 8 in walking. Do some easy run / walks. Go out whatever you usual distance is but leave all the ideas of pace at home. If you feel like walking or taking a short break do it. That is how i roll...

After my marathon, I couldn't put any weight on my left foot for 10 days, so it was a forced recovery! LOL! I did get on the stationary bike in that time. Let your body be your guide, and be prepared to feel like running is a foreign language your first few times out!

Listen to your body--your mind plays tricks sometimes. Hydrate well and you'll be back to running a bit by the weeked.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. ~Colossians 3:23-24

SFARRINGTON65,

The standard recovery time experts use is one day for every mile raced, therefore if your race was a 10K (6.2 miles), you will want to take things very slowly for the next 4 days. This does not mean you can't do some form of activity, but you don't need to worry about doing any training runs, but listen to your body. If you feel you need a longer time, than by all means take it, but I would hold off pushing the running as this point, especially if you have been running less than a year.

HAPPY SPARK RUNNING!
Nancy

My mind says run but my legs are a little sore.

So begs the question. When should I start back with slow short runs?

10/10/10 was the race and I have been walking multiple times for the 2 days since. I have walked about 8 miles so far and aside from some soreness in my thighs I feel good.

The day of the race I had sore feet, ankles, calves, thighs, and everything between. I feel way better now!
