Mary, I have not forgotten!!! I just want to get through this 7 mile race in July as it has 2 MAJOR hills. Then you add the fact that it will be my longest race to date. Mental game!!!

I am using the FIRST Marathon Training program from the Furman Institute and I love it. I just finished the FIRST Half Marathon program and my speed and stamina have increased a lot! 3 days a week with speed work but the intensity isn't bad and I am not getting injured.

Thanks for the training program pointers. These are great resources. Still mulling over if I should go for a marathon in December.

You are very welcome!!! I am not one for speedwork...maybe one day, but I get injured every time I try it, so I just want a basic mileage chart to build me up safely. The schedules Mark Bravo did for the OKC Land Runners was the best one I found that I was comfortable with. I tweaked mine to get closer to 26 miles than a 20 mile run, but that was only on the intermediate 20 mile runs since they had 3 I upped them a little on the last 2

Dear LAURIE5658,

Take many many notes because before long you will find yourself running a Half Marathon.

I am training for this one now and next I will train for a full Marathon.

Just keep with Spark People! You will be able to do everything! Me, I started from zero and now I am at 15K and 21K.

Keep going and never look back.

Dear DRAGONFLY1974,

I will examine the programs you sent me very carefully. They have 3 times per week training and that's exactly my case.

Thank you,

Uhura - I have been using a Runner's World training program. I picked it because it called for only 4 days of running per week, plus 2 days of cross training. The highest weekly mileage was 50 miles (80km) and that only happened once. Most weekly mileage was around 40 miles (64km).

While it did including some "pacing" information and one day of speedwork per week, I ignored that and just stuck to the weekly mileage recommendations (basically, 2 shorter runs, one mid-distance run and and one long run). It was particularly helpful in building up the long runs. By the time I reached the longest long run, I felt very comfortable with the distance.

I think you can probably pick a plan that has the mileage & number of days of running per week that works for you, and modify it if you are not interested in doing speedwork or worrying about your pace.

Good luck and enjoy!

Dear fellow runners,

I want to find a Marathon training program based on miles and distance only and not on time records or speed.

I do mind running a long distance but I do mind running in a short frame of time. I do not think I can run fast.

At the moment I run 3X15K per week.

So, I want to built up my endurance for a Marathon race regardless of the time I will need to complete the race.

Any help?

Thank you,
Uhura
