Had a free week at Nautilus last week ... felt great, but not sure it's worth the cost ... today I stopped at Best Fitness and will start 2 free weeks on Monday morning. I really want to find a place that I like ... that won't cost too much. Don't like the idea of a 2 year contract ...at least at Nautalis I can pay upfront for a year and not have any initiation fee. Of course ... it is $130 more a year to do Naut!! I guess I'll have to do a little more checking before making my final decision.

I noticed there are some events at the Rotary Pavillion this today from 10am-2pm ... learn how to ice fish (or just fish if there is no ice) And use snowshoes/ or cross country ski if there is snow ... or hike if there isn't. all activities are Free.

also ... check out the schedule for night hikes on the park.

Winter is a very difficult time for me to exercise ... I'm not an aerobics person ... like strength training the best. I love to walk, but not alone. Hubby talked me into getting rid of an old exercise bike (we really didn't have a good place for it) a few years ago, and now I'm sorry I did. It was a great way to keep my legs in shape.

Mall walking works ... morning is best, before the crowds arrive. I haven't been up to do that in a long time, there used to be plenty of people walking before most of the stores opened.

I get extra exercise walking down stairs whenever I can (going up isn't as easy with my knee replacement) and try to park my car at the far end of the lanes at stores.

If you like to dance ... there are a couple places in Erie where you can go ... Erie Elks (23rd & Peninsula Dr,) on Wednesday's from 7-10 ... The 4 Jays are playing for the winter until Bobby Remp comes back in May. The diningroom is open to the public @ 6 and there is no cover charge. There is usually a pretty nice group there every week.
If you like swing Dancing you can go to Rocko's on Thursdays (W 12th by the Airport) ... I think they start at 8pm.

Hey, Erie Sparkers,

What are some practical (a.k.a. cheap or free) ways you get in some good exercise during the winter months?

I've come to love my bike riding and am bummed at the idea of not riding during the snow and slush season. I'm planning on riding whenever I can when the roads are clear, regardless of the temperature, but need other ideas.

I don't belong to the Y anymore (and am not going to rejoin) and I don't ski. I do plan on doing a lot of walking, whether around Harborcreek, where I live, or in the woods on our property.

What do you all do for indoor or outdoor fitness when it's cold & snowy outside?
