THOUGHT FOR TODAY
“Lots of people limit their possibilities by giving up easily. Never tell yourself this is too much for me. It's no use. I can't go on. If you do you're licked, and by your own thinking too. Keep believing and keep on keeping on.”

More Web MD motivations:

Diet Motivation Tip 6: BE PATIENT
One of the biggest diet motivation-busters is the dreaded weight loss plateau. You've been doing everything right, exercising and eating well, and the numbers on the scale have been steadily dropping. Then suddenly: nada. The scale stays stuck for several days in a row. According to Ann Kulze, this is perfectly normal. "Turn it around and congratulate yourself on the diet success you've had so far," she urges. "This is a natural part of the weight loss process." When you hit the plateau, you may want to try something slightly different to jump-start your diet. "Commit yourself to expending an extra 100 calories a day with walking, for instance," Kulze advises. "And look honestly to see if you're backsliding in little ways with your eating." A few minor adjustments and you'll soon be back on course.

Diet Motivation Tip 7: REWARD YOURSELF
Dieting is hard work -- and it's not always a whole lot of fun. Small rewards can provide an incentive to keep going. But make sure your rewards are not food-related. (Translation: Rewarding yourself for losing 5 pounds with a box of chocolates is not what we're talking about.) Set mini-goals along the way and reward yourself when you reach them. Your reward could be a massage, a round of golf, a new pair of jeans, or a hot bubble bath. "Celebrating your diet success will fortify your resolve to continue," says Kulze.

A couple more motivational tips from Web MD ... I sure hope these tips are helping someone!

Diet Motivation Tip 4: Don't Be a Perfectionist
So what do you do if you've scarfed down a pint of ice cream before noon? "Perfectionist thinking gets in the way of success more than anything I know," according to Vicki Saunders, RD, who oversees the inpatient weight loss and lifestyle program called Transformations at St. Helena Hospital in Napa, Calif. "A 100-calorie indulgence is just that. But if it's perceived as a failure and a reason to give up, it can turn into a thousand-calorie indulgence." Bottom line when you slip up: Forget about it. Tomorrow is a new (healthier) day.

Diet Motivation Tip 5: Use the Buddy System
"It's hard to make major lifestyle changes when you're swimming upstream by yourself," says Saunders. Finding other people with similar goals can greatly improve yours odds of diet success. When your spirit - or willpower - flags, having people to call on can provide the support you need to continue. Saunders recommends looking for people at your local gym or Y, Overeaters Anonymous, or an online support group. "Having a support group to turn to, whether it's your family or people in a weight-loss chat room, can make all the difference" for diet success.

I loved your definitions Elaina ... can relate to a lot of them.

Here are 2 more of Web MD's diet motivation tips:

Diet Motivation Tip 2: Go Slow
Diet success entails making real lifestyle changes, and that doesn't happen overnight. "You have a better chance at keeping the weight off if you lose it slowly. People who are starving get irritable and have a higher failure rate," Kulze tells WebMD. "If you cut back 200 calories a day, you won't even realize it and the weight will come off and stay off." If you keep in mind that optimal weight loss is 1 to 2 pounds a week, you'll be less frustrated

Diet Motivation Tip 3: Expect Setbacks
Everyone is bound to give in to temptation (hello, hot fudge sundae) from time to time. The danger isn't a single splurge but letting it become an excuse for an all-out binge. Call it the "I've already blown it so I might as well eat the entire bag of Oreos" syndrome.

Web MD has 8 diet motivation tips that I'll try to share over the next couple of weeks ...

It turns out that the key to losing and keeping weight off isn't simply a matter of what you eat or how much you exercise - it's your attitude. Lasting weight loss is a slow process and it's all too easy to give up before you reach your goal. With the right psychological tools your chances of diet success can be greatly improved. WebMD consulted experts for diet motivation tips that will keep you, and your diet, on the winning track to losing.

Diet Motivation Tip 1:
Set Realistic Goals for Diet Success
The first step to maintaining your mojo should take place before you cut a single calorie. In fact, one of the strongest predictors of long-term diet success lies in setting the right goal at the start. "If you set unattainable goals, such as losing 30 pounds in just a few months, you're setting yourself up to fail," says Ann Kulze, MD, author of Dr. Ann's 10-Step Diet: A Simple Plan for Permanent Weight Loss and Lifelong Vitality. Instead, you'll be more likely to stick with a diet if you "focus on your health and create sensible eating strategies," says Kulze. Setting smaller, attainable benchmarks, like losing 5 pounds or a single dress size, will give you the confidence to continue.

Setting goals is easy. The tough part is putting time and hard work into realizing those dreams. The energy you are willing to put forth to reach your dreams is directly related to the probability of achieving them. Above all, be patient with the situation and with yourself. Don't lose your way by being blinded by disappointment, frustrations, and failures. Ponder the goals in your life and the obstacles you might face. Make appropriate plans to overcome those roadblocks even before they occur. Think of the reward of reflecting on a goal you have reached, rather than one you failed to see through. Most big dreams involve big effort!

Here's one I ran across today:

MOTIVATIONAL THOUGHTS

1 - Thou shalt not worry, for worry is the most unproductive of all human activities.

2 - Thou shalt not be fearful, for most of the things we fear never come to pass.

3 - Thou shalt not cross bridges before you get to them, for no one yet has succeeded in accomplishing this.

4 - Thou shalt face each problem as it comes. You can handle only one at a time anyway.

5 - Thou shalt not take problems to bed with you for they make very poor bedfellows.

6 - Thou shalt not borrow other people's problems. They can take better care of them than you can.

7 - Thou shalt not try to relive yesterday for good or ill — it is gone. Concentrate on what is happening in your life today.

8 - Thou shalt count thy blessings, never overlooking the small ones, for a lot of small blessings add up to a big one.

9 - Thou shalt be a good listener, for only when you listen do you hear ideas different from your own. It is very hard to learn something new when you are talking.

10 - Thou shalt not become bogged down by frustration, for 90 percent of it is rooted in self-pity, and it will only interfere with positive action.

"One small step at a time."

You will reach your goal for sure if you break a complicated task into small actionable steps. Do just one step at a time. To get started, choose something you know you can do easily. That can get the ball rolling for getting more done. These small steps will get you where you need to go.

I just saw this on a post in the Biggest Loser Fan Club team, had to share:

Just a little story and more....

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his
brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really very friendly. So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy
almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of
disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you.

Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.
Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home,or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let
garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so... Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't.

Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

Have a blessed, garbage-free day!

The word to describe (or one of the words to describe) my previous failures at weight loss programs and seeing them to the end is *Apathy*. Once the passion of the starting gate has dwindled... and real routines start to settle back in... so does apathy.

Apathy has been trying to weasel its way in... I have done a good job of not allowing it to do so.. I still have been exercising, and the same amounts that I had been, however, I realize today that the drive and passion seem to be missing and the emotional high is not as intense... It feels like a job now, whereas in the last many months it was new and invigorating...

The eating is just mundane and while I am still eating the proper foods, I am not looking forward to it as I was...

My resolve is still strong, it is just not as exciting. I am feeling the need to boost myself again.. I love the thrill of the newness and the passion that I was feeling. I don't worry right now that things will fall apart on me. I think that reality has settled in and I know that this is a L...o....n...g process.

Over the course of the *loss* period we will have these times of "ok" rather than "woo hoo"... times when our unconscious minds want so much to settle back into the lazy, unthinking ways of our past. These are the times that we need to jack up the strength, renew our passion and lean on our support system... We can make it through the slack periods, the "ho hum" periods, the times that we feel it isn't worth it, the plateaus and the maintenance, but like anything worth achieving ... it WILL be hard.

This is why it is so often referred to as a journey, because as with any journey or trip or vacation, there are small pockets of *issues* ~ a flat tire, a hotel reservation that gets messed up, a headache.

We will trip along the way and sometimes even fall. The strength is in getting back up or recognizing that the small change in our pace can be overcome. We must recognize that if we are conscious of the struggle, it need not become a fight! Renewing our commitment to ourselves is ongoing and a necessary part of success.

We ALL go through this and those of us who will make it to the end need to hone our skills at recognizing when apathy begins and nip it in the bud.

I am going to figure out just how to get my motor running more effectively again... to figure out why I feel as though I have not accomplished the losses that I most certainly have... I am conscious of the fact that apathy is trying so hard to snake its way in... but apathy will find no home here... I am ready for it and will not let it move in!

I'm borrowing a couple thoughts from one of my other teams ... hope they help!

People become really quite remarkable when they start thinking that they can do things. When they believe in themselves they have the first secret of success. Norman Vincent Peale

Just for today I will try to live through this day only, and not tackle all my problems at once. I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I felt that I had to keep it up for a lifetime.

Hmmmm. Must be no-one is using this thread. I'll try to keep it going a little longer.

You can't control the length of your life, but you can control the width and depth. You can't control the contour of your face, but you can control its expression. You can't control the weather, but you can control the atmosphere of your mind. Why worry about things you can't control when you can keep yourself busy controlling the things that depend on you.

LIFE'S PICTURE!!
Our life is a picture we leave here on earth, we start painting the day we are born. In the end some may leave a canvas of worth, while others are tattered and torn. Childhood laughter, days so carefree make the backgrounds so serene, but our youth may make some bold strokes that we wish could not be seen. "Growing up years" cause some shadows and they apint a darker part, but they often cause the painting to become a work of art. Raising children makes for beauty, in each scene they have their place. Each one different, yet so precious, you will note each little face. Oft' times children cause the painting to take on a different hue, we must exercise our patience, for not every sky is blue. Heartaches give our picture meaning, to the viewer it imparts thoughts protected, words unspoken, buried deep within our hearts. Soon our picture is completed, blessed with long life we can see, although vague at the beginning, that is all was meant to be!!

40 Tips for Better A Life - 2008

1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.

2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.

3. Buy a DVR and tape your late night shows and get more sleep.

4. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, 'My purpose is to __________ today.'

5. Live with the 3 E's -- Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.

6. Play more games and read more books than you did in 2007.

7. Make time to practice meditation and prayer. They provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives.

8. Spend time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6.

9. Dream more while you are awake.

10. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.

11. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli, almonds & walnuts.

12. Try to make at least three people smile each day.

13. Clear clutter from your house, your car, your desk and let new and flowing energy into your life.

14. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, OR issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.

15. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algegebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.

16. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.

17. Smile and laugh more. It will keep the NEGATIVE BLUES away.

18. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

20. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

21. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

22. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.

23. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

24. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

25. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: 'In five years, will this matter?'

26. Forgive everyone for everything.

27. What other people think of you is none of your business.

28. REMEMBER GOD heals everything.

29. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

30. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.

31. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

32. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

33. The best is yet to come.

34. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

35. Do the right thing!

36. Call your family often. (Or email them to death!!!)

37. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: I am thankful for __________. Today I accomplished _________.

38. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.

39. Enjoy the ride. Remember this is not Disney World and you certainly don't want a fast pass. You only have one ride through life so make the most of it and enjoy the ride.

May your troubles be less, May your blessings be more, May nothing but happiness come through your door!

Think Success ... emoticon

Are you ready for a simple recipe for success? The ingredients include motivation, knowledge, advice from those who have succeeded, and imitation of successful thoughts and actions.

These are the proportions:
One part knowledge.
One part self awareness.
A pinch of success advice.
Ten parts emulation of success.

Mix your knowledge and self awareness into your emulation of the thoughts and behaviors of the successful. Sprinkle lightly with advice from those who have succeeded before you. Heat this mix with your own motivation. Cook for several months or decades, until done, and then repeat the process.

Don't let go of your dreams. If you have determination and belief in your dreams, you will succeed in spite of your desire to let go.
