You probably already know how important breakfast is; a morning meal can give you an energy boost and help keep you slim (breakfast eaters have been shown to consume fewer calories each day). But if you're like most people, you probably rely on the same standard dishes day in and day out. Get ready to shake up your morning routine with one of these tasty and healthy breakfast ideas. It's the perfect way to start your day!

Have a bowl. Choose a cereal that's 100 percent whole-grain and use skim or one-percent milk or calcium-enriched soy milk. Don't have time to sit and eat? Take it to go. Mix a few of your favorite healthy cereals (I love combining Cheerios, Wheetabix Crispy Flakes and Fiber, and All Bran), put them in a plastic baggy, and you have a healthy, portable meal. Aim for a total of 160 to 190 calories of various high-fiber cereals.

Get cooking. Try whipping up some oatmeal made with skim or one-percent milk or calcium-rich soy milk. I love McCann's Irish oatmeal.

Look on the sunny side. Yes, you can have eggs! In fact, they're a great source of protein, which is more satiating than carbs or fat. Serve one or two eggs with a slice of whole-grain toast, fruit and low-fat milk.

Get your fruit fix. Start your day with a half grapefruit to knock off one of your daily fruit servings. Add a slice or two of whole-grain toast or an English muffin topped with peanut butter or even soy butter. Round out your meal with a glass of nonfat or one-percent milk.

Munch on a muffin. As long as you grab a healthy-size muffin (about 160 to 200 calories and at least 5 grams fiber), this can be a great on-the-go grab.
