Well, at least a LITTLE more info:

Turns out the meetings need only be attended by team captains... and my SIL would like to remain as captain at least for this year, since she originally started the team and has a grasp on the process. She is fine with changing the name (it was a family team, with a family name in previous years) to reflect the addition of the "sparkers", any suggestions are welcome! We will have the team webpage set up very soon, and I will send you a link to set up your individual page; this is a great tool for asking for donations from out-of-town friends and family, and makes tracking ALL of your donations super easy! I can get some envelopes for collecting donations for you, but if once you set up your web page, you really don't need it... I have just been keeping track of everything in a notebook until we get that all set up. More as I get it..... Thanks again!

Think you can, and you will.

YAY,I'm so happy to have people willing to walk with us! My sis-in-law was actually the "captain" for our team in past years... let me get the rest of the details from her and I can lead you in the right direction for pledge forms and everything!

Think you can, and you will.

I've "walked the walk" a number of times and would love to do it again--first time was in the 70's, themed "Trod the Sod for M.O.D."
Where are we meeting and where do I get a pledge sheet?

Dear God,
I never knew orange & purple went together until I saw the sunset last night--author unknown

My halo might split in 2 every now and then, but I can take it. I've got BIG shoulders--they hide the WINGS!

This is something I do every year... thought I would post the e-mail I received to see if anyone might be interested in joiing me this year. I would love to have our own "Erie Sparkers" team even!

On behalf of the March of Dimes, I’d like to wish you and yours a happy new year filled with peace and blessings.

At the start of this new year, I’d like to share with you some exciting changes taking place at the March of Dimes. First, we have a new logo! This means we have a new look—new colors, new fonts, new images! Next, WalkAmerica becomes March for Babies! That’s right—America’s oldest and best-loved walking event now has a new name! And you have a new contact for this year’s event: me J! Although I’ve been with the March of Dimes for 2 ½ years, I recently moved into the Erie office and will be coordinating Erie’s very first March for Babies event…and I can’t wait!!!

Please join me:

Date: Sunday, April 27, 2008

Place: Rainbow Gardens/Presque Isle State Park

Check-in: 11:00 am

Walk Begins: 1:00 pm

If you have any questions, concerns, or would just like to say “hello,” please don’t hesitate to contact me directly. All my contact information can be found below, and I am also available via e-mail at lking@marchofdimes.com. Don’t by shy! I’m here to help you…so you can continue to help babies!

Although the official March for Babies Team Captain Kickoff will be scheduled for late February (date TBD), it is never too early to kickoff your own team’s fundraising. Take this time to:

Contact me to confirm your participation in this year’s event; be sure I have all your accurate and current contact information
Contact all your team members and confirm their participation; grow your team by recruiting new participants
Set a team goal; I suggest increasing over last year’s performance by 20% (minimum goal should be $500)
Register at marchforbabies.org as soon as it becomes available; track your team’s accomplishments online
Plan how your team will reach its goal by deciding what types of fundraisers you will host this year (contact me if you need help brainstorming fundraising ideas)
Ask your employer (and your team members’ employers) to sponsor the event; their sponsorship dollars will count toward your team’s total (sponsorship proposal attached)
Check with your employer to see if they offer matching gifts, and learn how to apply/qualify for the matching gifts program
Find an honorary chair person/ambassador for your team
Plan a team meeting or an internal kickoff for your team; decide the best ways to keep the lines of communication open during the fundraising season
Look for more March for Babies information soon and plan to have a fun time at this year’s event

Entering into 2008, the March of Dimes wants to resolve to continue to be the champion for all babies—those who are born healthy and those who need our help to thrive. While it appears there are many changes at the March of Dimes, our mission remains the same. We want to continue to fight against birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.

Every baby has a story. Every mother, every father, every family has a tale to tell. If you (or someone you know) have had a personal experience with a birth defect, a premature birth or infant loss, and you/they want to share your/their story to inspire others, please let me know. If you have had a healthy child and recognize the March of Dimes impact in your life, as well, and you want to share your story, too—please let me know. Powerful stories demonstrate the importance of our mission to our community, and I thank you in advance for considering sharing yours.

In addition, all mission-affected families are invited to attend a Mission Family Get-Together at the expERIEnce Children’s Museum on Saturday, January 19. If you know any families who would like to receive an invitation, please let me know. These families, who have been touched by a birth defect, premature birth or infant loss, play a great role in the continued success of the March of Dimes by inspiring the community to come together to give every baby a healthy start.

Also attached is our 2008 Sponsorship proposal---remember sponsorship is a great way to partner with the March of Dimes for the first ever March for Babies event!!!

Thank you for your support, and I look forward to marching for babies with you all!
