So you like cookie dough. I like the cookies warm from the oven, but, this year I think my problem is going to be chocolate. If I smell it I WANT it! My DH loves chocolate covered cherries and I buy them for him every Christmas. This year I have not eaten one, but, that fudge friend Kathy sent home with us when we went to Tn is driving me nuts! emoticon

OH WOW! That's a lot of them! You will do the best you can and I know we will do our best to keep you motivated to get to your goal by May.

I think all I'm doing is making cookies and I'm going to make them and freeze them (not sit the dough in the refrigerator and make a little bit at a time so then I eat it all before baking them!)

Jennifer, we have at least 4 or 5 of these every year. Two in my family and two in my DH plus our church family. I will do the best I can and be prepared to get double exercise in January.
Looks like we have another challenge going since I put it out there to lose 5 pounds by May. Gonna need lots of support from our team! emoticon

My indulgence varies from year to year - depending on what I am cooking or baking! This year it is chocolate chip/M&M cookies.

Mel, going to all those potlucks would throw me off too (especially since there is usually no good way to track it and feel like you are even close unless you stick with straight veggies and then people look at you funny...) At least you choose only one or two indulgences instead of just eating without thinking about it. How many more of these events do you have this year?

The one food I can't seem to give up this year is some chocolate covered peanuts my friend in Tennessee made for us while we were there. I have had 4 bites of it since she sent it home with us on December 2. Needless to say this is not helping the scale go down! Another is that at each of the pot lucks , etc. we go to I seem to choose at least one indulgence and sometimes more. I need help! emoticon

I find that tracking my food is the best thing for me. I don't always eat the best diet, nutrition-wise (like today, I've had NO vegetables!!), but logging in what I do eat helps me keep my calories managed. My hubby is out of town and I have a hard time cooking just for me. For example, for supper tonight (usually my heavy veggie meal), I had cheese and crackers :(

Mel, I'm still having a hard time adhering to a strength training routine. I'm not giving up! I know it is just a matter of developing a habit.

Jennifer, your stick-to-it-ness with your 1/2M training is to be admired! You go, girl!

Re: non-negotiable: I always fix authentic Russian Tea. It is full of calories (sugar, orange juice, pineapple juice), but oh so good!

emoticon I'm so glad that this is helping both of you!!

I feel a little afraid (and very lucky) to say this but what is helping me this year is not doing any of the traditional holiday items. My husband and I took this year off from both holidays and while I am a bit wistful and still thinking of what I can do to make it special - I'm trying not to focus on food. (Though it is very difficult.)

I think I will make two things if I make them at all. M&M Chocolate chip cookies and Perogies (again, if I feel like it - they take two days to make - the perogies). Avoiding all the other holiday "necessities" makes it easy to stay on track even if I eat 12 perogies on Christmas Eve.

I'm sticking with my training plan even though I feel like slug after not running since last Wednesday. But now that I've paid the $$ to run I'm more committed so...

Is there a non-negotiable that you indulge in this time of year?

Thanks Jennifer, for the encouragement and I hope all will share what is working for them. For me , a challenge with another of our WS team is keeping me focused right now. The challenge came because we both found ourselves slacking off our commitment to strength training so we are being accountable to each other. Looking forward to hearing from all!

Hi everyone!

Now that we are mid-way through the holiday season, I invite you to think about what is working for you, what isn't and what you would like to have work for you! Thanksgiving is over and all we can do is decide how we are going to handle the rest of the year.

Please share your tips, struggles, wishes and anything else you want to share this time of year - this can be such an emotionally loaded time of year and I want to make sure you have a place to reach out and be seen. (Though my check-ins seem sporadic, you are all always on my mind.)
