Welcome CFODEL!
Welcome WHYTONIA!
Welcome HCOLLINS11!
Welcome NANCYWRUSSELL!
Welcome DLDEEMS!

I hope you reach out and find what you need here on Spark. We do try to get together and walk once a month - low stress, low impact and walk at your own pace. We'd love to have you join us. Check out the Group Meeting Thread to voice when, where and what you'd like to do as a team.

It seems like each one of you has already made small steps in the right direction - emoticon I know it might not seem like much now but those small steps are what gets you to your big goal. If you stay focused on them, you WILL reach it.

Looking forward to getting to know you more and supporting however I can. Please let us know how we as a team can support you.

(PS: Mel (GOLFGMA) is amazing for holding you accountable and keeping you inspired. As I started feeling better and signing back in I would see her all over the site commenting, working out, trying out foods, etc. She is super inspiring and makes you want to get off your butt and do something (even when you don't want to.) Friend her and you will have instant motivation.)

Hi,
I have been on Spark People since October and just now I am starting to put out feelers about interacting with other members on teams. I hope I will find someone who will be an encouragement to me and help me keep my motivation. I am a transplanted Yankee -I've been here about 20 years and love it. Right now I don't have a lot of people in my life who are as active as I want myself to be, so it is easy to lose motivation.

Hi all,

I joined this site as I was curious to learn who was a SparkPerson in Winston and to say "thank you" for the post that mentioned theproducebox.com. I had long wanted to be a member of a CSA but couldn't afford the cash outlay. The option of a garden box for $17.00 a week is perfect and will be the right amount of food for me and DH. I am excited to get my box!

To introduce myself I am....
59 years old
married 12 years and still in love with my husband
the grandmother of six (from 3 years to 13 years)
enjoy walking and love to ride my bicycle
have discovered Hungry Girl

I also live in Davidson County (Welcome) and work in Winston off Broad Street.

I have not read a lot of the posts on this team yet. Are group activities ever scheduled?

There is so much help here on this site! I, and I'm sure others, would like to be your friend and hold you accountable. This entire team is here to hold you accountable. Put me on your friend list and I will check on you daily. Making up your mind that you really want to lose the weight and be healthy is the first step. Committing yourself to tracking your food and staying within your calorie range and exercising is the next step. I remember reading a blog from a young girl who weighed over 300 and she said , in the beginning, she couldn't walk the length of her driveway, but, she walked a little farther each day until she finally had enough wind to make the length. To make a long story short, she kept walking, then running and she was eventually able to run in a 5K. I so admire anyone who will stick to a program such as that. I challenge you to read some of these success stories then create your own! emoticon

I guess that it really is easier said than done. I need some motivation! I haven't been to the gym to switch my membership or even exercised. I have been trying to watch my diet, but I totally blew it tonight. I find myself sitting here wondering if I can do it or will they have to use the crane to get me out of this house. After going to the doctor yesterday and weighing in at 302, I have been feeling so depressed. I want to feel better and feel better about the way that I look. I want to look in the mirror and be able to say "Dang girl, you are looking sexy!" It feels like that is too much to ask though. :/ Needing a friend now more than anything that can help motivate me by calls and text. There is really no one around me that is holding me accountable. Please, is there any one out there that can help me???

I'm sexy and I know it!!!!

Hola everyone! I am new here and I need to lose around 150+. I want to get this weight under control so that I can work on acheiving my number one gaol, which is to have a child with my wonderful husband. :) I joined this site, so that I would have the motivation and support of others on the same journey as me. It is always easier talking to someone in the same position as you. Good luck to each of us and I hope to get to know you all better. :)

Hello everyone! I joined this site a year or so ago and I never really stuck to it. I've done a few diet plans and I've never really stuck to any of them. They seem so difficult. I think 30 minutes of cardio 3 times a week is a small goal that I can stick to! I live, of course, in Winston Salem. We are getting ready to move to a new home so there are a lot of changes happening. One of which is that I want to lose weight and be able to do stuff with my husband. I have A Vascular Necrosis(AVN) and I'm losing my left hip. I want to keep doing all that I can until it gives out completely. I hope that from this site I can get some local support and encouragement and perk up my attitude towards losing all this weight I need to lose!

Hi, I'm Carolyn. I had a long put off doctor's appt on 3/30, and all of my tests came back too high. I am a type 2 diabetic, with high triglycerides, high cholesterol, high BP. I have ditched diet coke this year for water, and am starting to work on my diet, focusing first on getting the diabetes under control. I bought my first scale in 20 years, and to my amazement, I have lost over 4 lbs in the two weeks since I started on my diet (my tracker shows since my false start last year on SP).

GADDREAMER, There are lots of motivational helps here on the site, but, i think the best one for me was knowing that I had allowed my cholesterol to get high enough that my doctor wanted me to consider meds to control it. I didn't want those , so, he recommended SP site to me and I found tracking my food and REALLY seeing the imbalance in my food intake to be the thing that most motivated me to give my body a better chance to operate in a normal manner. I feel so much better and have more energy to do things I love. emoticon

Welcome ResilientMiss! Where are you studying nursing? Interested in doing any volunteer work? I am the nurse manager for a free clinic that meets 2 mornings a week in Southside. We have a large Hispanic client base - so if you speak Spanish, you would be a double bonus to our team! (Most of us do not speak Spanish. We rely on translators.) We have young volunteers (besides me and a couple other oldie-goldies!) that are friendly and love helping others. Our primary mission is to be the hands and feet of Jesus as we attempt to help others in His name. We are richly blessed in every meeting of the clinic.
If your schedule doesn't allow that (and I understand if it doesn't - nursing school can be grueling!), keep an eye out for team meetings. I've only attended one (a walk around the Salem Lake greenway), but thoroughly enjoyed meeting other W-S Sparkers while walking off a few calories.

My young friends from clinic (Wake Forest and Salem College students) go to the Salsa dancing lessons at UNCSA. They make it sound like loads of fun. Apparently, there are lots of college students that attend. The lessons are at the Vintage Theater on UNCSA campus.

You'll make loads of friends! Hang tight :)

So I'm trying once again to loose these extra pounds. I could really use some motivation! I keep trying ... but then quit. My coworkers and I are doing a competition at work with our entire facility. Hopefully that will motivate me. I don't want to "diet" I want to loose the weight and learn to keep it off - to change my lifestyle. I live in Winston Salem, close to North Davidson. I'm 34 and can really use someone who could help motivate me...so please feel free to send me a message with all kinds of tips!

5 things about myself:
1. I'm 24 years old
2. I'm going back to school for nursing
3. I'm training myself to be a good runner
4. I'm originally from New York so moving here to NC(winston-salem) has been a challenge to adjust. I have no friends yet.(anyone wanna be my friend? hehe)
5. I do my best to keep my chin up even if I screw up with my wish for good health. I can be very motivating and helpful when I got the drive in me.(which usually requires a cup of coffee. haha)

thanks everyone!

happy Wednesday everyone, sorry have not had a chance to post lately, it has been nuts at work.

Have a funny story about the wiifit plus, i have been using it to get back into working out, i have an ellip but my arm is still swelled up and i do not want to make it madder at me, so i have been doing different things on the wiifitplus when not able to walk. last night i did the advanced biking around the island thing,, had to find 23 flags,, i started off, kept going kept going kept going,, almost gave up biking (walking on the balance board) until finally found that blasted last flag,,, the credits started counting up and i had been biking for 26 mins on that island,, it was good, my mind was not on dang been doing this for 5 mins, 10 mins etc. so it was a nice change

hope everyone has a great day! my weight was at least down,, i had sneaked a peek over the weekend (we were visiting family in SC and then had a chicken stew in NC) and had added 3 lbs but then they dropped off.

Hi everyone, time to reintroduce myself, Brian here, live in yadkinville, i was doing good until the whole turn of events happened, got married, less time spent working out, then messed up elbow, had to have surgery on it, gained back 45 pounds or so to 267... i was trying to lose weight but encountering resistance from my wife. she is a great cook and my workouts were not compensating for it lol. she was having health issues but would not make the changes needed to help her,,, about 2 weeks ago i had to take her to fmh,, her triglycerides were over 3k and blood sugar too high,, she is now on insulin level 1 diabetic, we have changed diet to what the hospital said, low carbs and having meals,, this is better for her since she would skip meals and then eat and eat at night.

look forward to getting to know everyone

My Christmas and New Year's were wonderful as far as family and friends go.

Food wise, not so much. I really did not realize how much carby food is prepared and served over the holidays. I kept thinking turkey and ham, I am good. Yeah, not really, I wanted the pie, I wanted the sweet potatoes and I wanted everything in between. I forgot about the pressure too. I went to lunch at an Italian restaurant with my hubby and his grandparents. I ordered the anitpasti salad, which was right up where I needed it to be and can you believe, they kept agging me onto the breadbasket and their sandwiches? Arg! I am just glad that it is over and now I can begin working off what I gained.

January, I am choosing to rest. We ran every single day in November through December and as much as I love it, I am tired and my house is a wreck!

How is everyone else doing this month??

Doing pretty good. Christmas was great. The family was together and well. We missed my DH's dad who passed on January 2 of 2011. Looking forward to 2012 for the opportunity to improve some habits like eating healthier, exercising more and being a better person to all around me. emoticon

Christmas wasn't so bad - it was last Friday (day before New Year's Eve) that set me WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY over. (It was also the sixth set of family to visit in the past two months - I think I was just running out of steam.)

But today is a new day. Getting ready to dance in my living room for a little bit.

How is everyone else?

Your Christmas sounds like fun and we will be in church next Sunday morning (Lord willing). That is some smart little lady you have there. Maybe next Spring we will have a walk in the park and all get a chance to push her in the stroller unless she is too grown up for it by then.
Have a wonderful blessed Christmas!

Christmas is so ready for E. Shopping is done, presents are wrapped and planning the brunch menu! We celebrate with my Dad this weekend and with my Mom on Christmas Eve. My Dad gave her the Polar Express Train Set last weekend and she had it figured out in about two minutes! We took her to breakfast with Santa the first weekend of the month, and I wish I could figure out how to post a pic, it was so funny!!

I am really looking forward to Christmas morning, we will have a service at Church, midmorning and lots of jammies and family time afterwards.

Hope you enjoy yours!

Hi Cindy, Jennifer and Merlie!

I love this! We have a spunky group.

Cindy, I love your background page, have not made it back to the coast (Go Pirates!) since my ECU days and miss it terribly.

Jennifer, I know what you mean about being both mountain and coast, I love both and after spending 5 years on the coast came here for a job and something different! P.S. I have not figured out what I want to be when I grow up either. It's okay.

Melrie, I heard a line in a veggie tale movie over the weekend and what you wrote reminds me of it, a little snoodle asked God why He did not command us to love and worship Him and He told the little snoodle that a gift that was demanded was no gift at all.

I love cards too, my family is a firey Euchre playing family and I am a self taught Canasta fire player, throw in a little Gin Rummy and UNO with the kiddos and we have fun all through the holidays!

1. My name is Melrie and I am originally from here in N. C. I have traveled to many states and European countries and I am happy and proud to stay here in N.C.!
2. I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 50 years (July 1, 2011) and we have 2 children, a daughter and a son plus two grandsons. Son in law and daughter in law are great additions to our family.
3. My hobbies are golf, card games such as Canasta and Rook plus Dominoes and play these weekly with friends. I love to read, paint and go on all day outings with friends (lots of shopping with lunch out).
4. I have been blessed to realize that we are put on this earth for a purpose. The purpose is not to please ourselves , but rather, to please our God who created this earth and placed mankind on it to please Him. I realize that I will never be perfect but just know that I need to spend the rest of my life hoping to be better each day and also when I "mess" up I must "fess" up and ask for forgiveness. I believe the Bible is God's inspired word and keeping His commandments should be our goal in life.
5. My overall goal in life is simply to love my God, my family and friends, to grow spiritually and be a better person in the future than I have been in the past.

Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Phil 2:3-4.
