C G Hill is a great place to walk, especially the upper track when it's not too hot. I also love walking around Reynolda Village and always like to make a pass through the gardens when the flowers are all in bloom! I'm hoping for a pretty weekend since I'm off so I can get out some.

I walked at C G Hill park yesterday. I'm just now getting back into the swing of things so I only made it around twice but it felt good knowing I'm making my body stronger. I also like to walk around the Reynolda House at Reynolda Village.

Hi Crystal. I forgot about the greenway by Old Salem. That would also be a nice place to walk. I'm really looking forward to warmer weather.

I might try to take a break tomorrow afternoon from my home projects and get to Pilot Mountain or Hanging Rock for a hike. I think it's supposed to be much warmer tomorrow.

Over in Mocksville but work and (realistically) LIVE in Winston. I think meeting up for a walk would be great. There is the greenway by Old Salem or the trail around Salem Lake (I can't remember if it is still closed or what). March and warmer weather will be here soon... emoticon

Hi Kat. Hope you can join us for a walk sometime. I went yesterday to C G Hill and walked. It was such a beautiful day and it felt really good just getting out.

Julia, sounds like a great idea to me. Like I said, I'm pretty flexible since I work evenings so all I need is a little nice weather and I'm good to go. It'll be good to see you again. Y'all just let me know when you're ready to go.

Emptynester, although I work downtown, I actually live in Pfafftown. I like to walk at C G Hill park and Central Park in King, and also go to Pilot Mountain and Hanging Rock a lot to hike. If you ever want to get together for a walk or hike, just let me know.

I live on the western side of Winston - closer to Lewisville & Pfafftown - and work in Rural Hall. Anyone over my way? I would love to be able to walk & meet some of you, but downtown is a bit out of the way for me during the week. emoticon

Hello everyone,

This idea of a lunch walk sounds good to me. I work close to Old Salem, but only have 30 min.
for lunch, but I am free enough to adjust my time. There is a walk path starting at the Y on Main Street and goes on towards town. I'm not sure where the other end is. We can pick a place to meet and go from there. I've seen others walking this path at lunch also. Let's keep in touch. Julia

Let's plan to meet for a downtown walk when it warms up a little. Lunch time would be great for me, and since I'm off during the day it really doesn't matter what time it is.

I could do a lunch hour walk as long as it was around the downtown area, close enough to Burke Street for me to get back within an hour.

I work downtown also (in the jail at the corner of Church and Second St). Unfortunately I work evenings so my schedule is out of sync with everyone else.

Okay, you're just down the road from me, I work on 1st street! My weekends are pretty much jammed up till the end of Feb, but I will keep that in mind.

Do they offer drop in? If so, how much?

The one that is next to Hanes Park, close to Downtown.

I go there during the week too, because I work on Burke Street. (Yes, the pizza is tempting, but I stay away.)

Okay, so I was reading through the forum and everyone was saying, "yeah, we should get together more." Well, this is me being proactive.

We need to find a time that is good for everyone, not necessarily on a constant, but at least for a one time get together. However, in the short term, if anyone is a member of the YMCA, I am going to start doing the Saturday morning Zumba classes (9:50am) at Central (aka William G. White, Jr.). I would love if others would come and join me.

hi everyone!

hope everyone is enjoying this weekend, I got hit by some bug thursday eve and i am barely feeling human again today. Then as my angelic wife (who had taken care of me) got ready to leave, she started with the cough and throat clearing that i started with thursday sigh.

yes it would be great to get this group started! i am also chained to a desk all day. i get my workouts in at night on the elliptical, but danyl and i have been wanting to get out and do more. Her schedule keeps her working on the weekends, but hopefully she will have some time before long.

Carla and Lorie, I understand completely. My hours and days are just really weird and I work evenings, so it frees my mornings up to get outside, which I do like. I also work occasionally at a spa in King (I'm also a massage therapist), but I schedule my own appointments so if I have a couple weeks notice I can usually be free in the morning to get out and hike or walk.
I look forward to meeting y'all and getting in some exercise.

Sounds like fun and I find it's so much easier to stay motivated when I'm doing things with others. I hike alone a lot and don't mind it, but exercising occasionally with someone else helps keep me on track.

I'm headed to Hanging Rock around lunch today to see how far I can get in my out of shape body. Hoping it warms up some, but if not I'll just add layers :)

Carla, thanks for volunteering to take over the lead. Julia and I have met and walked and I really enjoyed it, so I'm looking forward to meeting others also and becoming more involved. Together maybe we can all keep each other motivated and reach our goals!

I'd be willing to be the team leader. I messaged the former leader when she asked if anyone was interested but never heard back.

5Ks: I know toward the end of March is the St. Leo's 5K (but parking for that event is a pain) and at the end of April is the Heart & Sole 5K at Wake Forest. Probably plenty in between those two times and no doubt plenty after as well. :)

These are great ideas! Is there any interest in someone new taking over as leader of this group?

I love the idea of getting together once a month. I know we will have some 5Ks coming up in a few months.

April has the Jenny's Walk of Hope at Bermuda Run and May has the Susan G. Koman walk. I am sure there are many others.

As far as getting together, don't worry, I would be right in the back too! I am just getting started again and I need to get better. I used to hike around Pilot Mountain with no problems, I am afraid if I tried today, I would not make it!

Cindy, I love that idea of getting together about once a month for a walk or hike!

We could also plan to participate as a group in a local 5K in the spring or fall. Just a thought.

Hi Julia. No, I haven't walked hardly any since last fall and definitely need to get back to it. I finally went hiking one day last week and am hoping it's warm enough tomorrow to get back out for at least a little while.

Hello again Cindy and Hey to you too Jamgirl8. I have gotten lazy this season and I would go walking together when the weather is ok. I have not hiked really much at all, but it would be interesting. But you would probably leave me in the dust. Let's stay in touch. Julia

I think it would be great if we could get together about once a month for a walk or hike in our area. Not sure was everyone else thinks; just my suggestion.
