You know what we ended up doing? There's a brand new feeder out called SquirrelBuster. My husband saw it had great reviews on Amazon so he ordered one and put it up, and guess what! even though we surely have the smartest, most audaciously acrobatic squirrels in the world, they can't get to it! Yayyyy. So all is well and my birdies are happy. (And the very fat squirrels get the morsels that fall to the ground so they're not too grumpy or mad at us! LOL) Oh and Happy April to you too! You are just a doll to check up on me thank you!!

Hi Allison! To make sure the squirrels don't get your feeder emptied, try a baffle. It will go over any feeder that is hanging from a tree and prevent the other critters from reaching your feeder. You can buy them at Fred Meyer in the outdoor birding section or at Target etc. It will hang just above your feeder. Also make sure you hang your feeder in a branch kind of away from the tree trunk. The squirrels can fly. They leap onto the feeder bypassing the baffle all together. Good luck fellow bird feeder!!! Michele (Piccolo) emoticon

Just wondering whether anyone can recommend a good, pretty much squirrel-proof bird feeder? Our current bird feeder was broken by the high winds we've had in the northeast over the past couple weeks. We're looking at one by Mastergardeners that has a spring mechanism a squirrel's weight makes close the feeder part. Do you know anything about this type of feeder or can you recommend anything better or different?
