We're in prime Northwest summer mode right now! There are festivals, free movies outdoors, farmers markets and u-pick farms everywhere! If you love the outdoors, now is the time to be there. I'll be hiking at the Pass tomorrow. Come on out and play!

There are a number of Seafair events going on all around the region. I plan to watch the Blue Angels like I do every year. Maybe I'll see you there!

This weekend: strawberry picking at Harvold Farms in Carnation...they are at their peak right now!

Should be a beautiful weekend to do a hike at Franklin Falls near the Pass. It's a 2-miler, suitable for children.

Today is the opening day of the Bellevue Farmer's Market, 10-2 at NE 8th (Washington Square)one block east of Bellevue Square.

Hiking in Cougar Mountain Park tomorrow. The Coal Creek Trail (Access from Red Town Trailhead or Coal Creek Parkway Trailhead) is beautiful, short and not too hard. Waterfalls, streams, mysterious cave opening, generally delightful! There are two more hikes with waterfalls there...who knew so close in to urban settings!

Thank you for a welcome message. I enjoy going to Marymoor off leash dog park, usually with one of my two dogs, and walking. The Slough in S Bellevue is a good place to walk also. I live on Yarrow Point, and walking around the Point is a good 2 miles. Now, I just have to get out and do it!

I am totally (great English degree speak) into quilts, both the making of and viewing art pieces. I'm definitely going to the exhibit. Thanks for the info.

FYI: I've started swimming at the Bellevue Aquatic Center. I've lost enough weight and built up my strength enough at other exercise that I'm able to lap swim the crawl for over an hr...which I did 3x in the past 5 days. (Each workout burns about 1000 cal). If you're interested in long swims, I highly recommend purchasing a FINIS swimP3. Works through bone conduction and you can download 60 songs from CDs (won't take songs downloaded from iTunes). It's absolute heaven! Listening to the music is relaxing and makes the time fly. I bought mine at Swim In located on the corner of 140th NE and Northrup.

Looks interesting KungFood. I know Hope loves quilts...we just stopped in a quilt store and browsed around last weekend. :)

I'll show her and see if she's interested.

Love the changes they've made at the Bellevue Art Museum... and the current exhibit looks nice and cosy during the extra six weeks of winter. If anyone sees this show, please let me know!

Chandler....I was thinking about exactly what you're suggesting for the next event. I was considering a bike ride this weekend.

Until we know the group better, though, perhaps a smaller ride should be the agenda. 10 miles maybe?

Perhaps those of us who want to go further can continue if others want to stop.

I'm back on sparkpeople after a very long holiday break (in the hospital for kidney stones on Thanksgiving, then the flu for 10 days, snowed in, then back a seasonal part-time retail job (crazy customers). Anyway, I'm back in the game.

Read your blog about the first meetup. Kudos to you!!!!! I'm in the process of getting orthotics, which won't be ready for another 2 weeks. I can definitely walk in the meantime, but do end up icing my ankles and knees after a 4 hr shift on my feet. Today I walked hills in my Kirkland neighborhood for 1 hr and don't feel any pain thus far (I did the same walk on Wednesday). I'm stretching and trying not to overdo.

I'd be interested in attending the next meetup. Anyone interested in bicycling on the Sammamish River/Burke-Gilman Trail?

Saw my bariatric surgeon last week and attended a support group meeting that's part of his program (Dr. Chebli at NW Hospital). The group has really helped me get back into the game. I lost 70 lbs from 3/07 to 9/07, maintained for 6 months, then gained about 8-10 lbs which I've been struggling with ever since. I've set a goal to lose 2 lbs/week until I see him again in April.

I'm back to drinking my Worldwide and Isopure protein drinks (35 grams protein/2 grams carbs and 40 grams protein/0 carb, respectively). It's amazing how getting 70-80 grams of liquid protein in really helps with the weight loss. You just don't feel hungry and when you do eat, the surgical tool works exactly as it's supposed to (curbs your appetite and makes you nauseous if you eat high-fat/sugar foods).

I've gotten a little off topic, but I hope this info helps others. Please feel free to send me messages via my sparkpage for any questions you might have about the bariatric surgery experience (extremely glad I did it).

I haven't seen it yet (you only mentioned it yesterday), but today my girlfriend was looking for something to do (while I was at work), so I sent her over to scope it out. :)

Alright! I'm adding a picture of Bellevue's Meydenbauer Park on my blog today. It is a great place for walking ...well when it all dries out in the NW, anyway!

This place in particular brings back many fond memories of growing up in Bellevue. There used to be a rope swing near here and it wasn't so lush.

What a great park! If you live in Bellevue and haven't visited it, maybe this weekend... it's supposed to be dry!

Team,

Our own KungFood has come up with an interesting idea!! Write a blog about something you like to do in the Eastside and post a picture with your blog.

Then come back to this thread and link to your blog or tell us so we can visit your blog and possibly learn about other cool places in the area that some of us may now know about.

Example:

I enjoy a walk around the circle at Bellevue Park if I'm in the area. I used the picture I took while I was walking there with my girlfriend as the team page picture.

Here's my blog (more about this team than the park, but we can do more on that later).
