Well, to make a long story short, I am not going to be volunteering at the shelter I checked out today, nor am I going to recommend people volunteer there. That sounds mean, but I've got reasons though I don't want to get back into a bad mood by talking about it further at the moment.

I don't want life to be roses without thorns. Just give me the darn thorns and let me live!

So does Science Diet. I get my pet products from Pet Smart. They have a wide selection of food. Most brands carry foods to meet most needs for your kitty. Indoor, weight control, hair ball....I also get this tube of a gel like stuff, it is flavored so they like it and I just put a little on my finger tip when I feel they need it.

If it is hairballs, there are some foods and treats out there that can help with hairballs. I think Iams makes some food.

Fingers (my main coon) also wheezes sometimes, but it's usually after grooming himself and usually too fast.

Hello All,

I have never ran across a cat that had asthma. I had to give one of my cats some hairball med because she was always coughing up hairballs. It did seem to help her. I hope that your cat will be ok.

Thank you all for the support and concern. I will be trying to get back into a regular routine. Hopefully I will be able to do it without too much difficulty.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Best wishes to all!

Well, my vet gave my asthmatic cats each a cortisone shot. For one of them,I was thinking it didn't do much good, but now she is much better. The other one still wheezes some but not as much and still sometimes coughs, but not as much of that either.

Maintaining.

Glad you are back with us. It's always a good idea to start slow and to slowly increase the strength. What does one do if they think that their cat has asthma. My cat keeps coughing. I can give him hairball med that he doesn't like. But a little later he will be coughing again. So I don't think that the hair ball med is working. Scott is a Himalayan cat. His hair isn't as cottony as Albert's was. Scott's hair is slick. Hope everyone has an Awesome weekend and stays safe.

Glad you got the green light from your doctor. That will help you feel better sooner than not being able to exercise.

Hugs to you!! emoticon

Hello All,

Sorry that I haven't been on for a couple of days. I haven't been feeling all that good. My stomach has been acting up some. I do however, feel a little better today.

I got to go to the doctor's appointment for the Stimulator on Thursday. He gave me the green light to be able to start doing some exercises and stuff again. He said there is no restrictions. The only time that I need to see him is if something goes wrong with the unit or wires themselves. I am so happy. Now I can get back into a routine and hopefully lose this weight that I have put back on in the 6 weeks of not being able to do anything. I am going to start out slow. I am sure that my body needs to build itself back up to what it was before. I just hope that it doesn't take too long.

I want to thank everyone for saying prayers and supporting me while I was down. It really did mean a lot to me. You are all very good friends and I don't know what I would do without you all,

For those that are going through a hard time right now, I will say some prayers for you all. I hope that things get better soon for you all.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Best wishes to all!

Hi Everyone -

I've been MIA for several reasons, but now I'm back.

My daughter studied in Japan for the spring semester - until we made her come home because of earthquakes and Tsunamis (she's fine she was in Tokyo, 250 miles from the epicenter). If you're curious, I blogged about her experience.

There were a lot of cats in Japan! Almost every temple they visited had a dozen or more cats. Not in the temples, but on the grounds. Some of the temples had cushions spread around for them to sleep on. There weren't any water or food bowls in sight, so she wasn't sure if they were fed by the temple people, or if tourists fed them, or both. They had plenty of water, since all of the temples had ponds or brooks.

In their area of Tokyo, she and her roommate discovered a cat cafe. It was a cafe that served tea and sweets and such, but also had something like 30 cats. They were everywhere, they had climbing posts and shelves and a heated blanket on the floor. My daughter bought treats for them, petted them, played with them just like they were her own. The only rule was that you could not disturb any sleeping cats. She says she wants to start her own cat cafe, but I'm not sure how that would work with federal, state and local health codes.

Gingerpawz I'm very glad you are able to volunteer at the shelter. I know the cats (and dogs) need the socialization.

That is true Debbie. I feel the same way. I cannot stand to see any animal in a cage. We gave a friend a cat that we had have for 5 years. Their house burned and her daughter lost her long hair cat in the fire. We had a cat that was being a bully to the other two cats so as a Christmas present we gave her ours cat. You should have seen her face. Her face lit up when she found out that the cat was hers now. They sent me a picture of Albert after the new year and it looked like he had gained 20 pounds. The mother said that Albert eats a 20 pound bag of food in one week.

We miss Albert but I know that the family is giving him a good home. They said that we could come over any time and see him.
Hope everyone has a good night and also doing good on their eating plan. I look forward to talking to you tomorrow.

I can't even enter a shelter. I love cats, it breaks my heart to see cats in cages and not being held. I would be a cat hoarder, that is not good for cats either. I feel so bad for people that have to give up their pets. Its like asking them to give up a child.

I know what you mean Karen. Some of the cats are so cute and just want to hold them all day. There was one man who brought in a long hair cat that they couldn't take with them. Their new landlord didn't allow pets of any kind. The kids were crying because they didn't want to leave their beloved pet. But the animals don't generally get the handling that they need if it wasn't for the volunteers. Hope everyone has a great day.

Voluntering at animal shelters is a good thing. My son does it every spring. He enjoys hanging out with the animals. He walks three dogs a day and also makes sure that the cats are fed and watered before he leaves. Robert wishes he could also do it during the school months. But with swimming and bowling after school his schedule is just too busy. Hope you have a great time at the shelter.

Hi all, figured I should drop in again here sooner or later. I'm gonna be hopefully volunteering soon at an animal shelter a bit of a ways from home this summer. It'll be nice to have something to do and to work with animals again.

Sage my darling kitty has been keeping me entertained all day. He's been acting like a total nut! He finally seems to have settled down though and is now snoozing in his favorite rocking chair.

That's what I thought that it was. And Scott does Wheeze with it. But he doesn't seem to have any problems running and playing. It only started happening after his half brother left us to another family. The other family likes Albert. I think that they are keeping good care of him. The daughter lost her cat in a house fire and for Christmas we gave them Albert. You should have seen her face when she received a white cat. She still says thank you for Albert. We have a cat that is 19 years old and Albert was bullying her so we had made a decision to put Albert up for adoption. But we didn't want him to be in a cage at the animal shelter. Hope you have a great day.

Well, it could be that he has asthma. I have two kitties that get that periodically. One of them tends to occasionally sleep by my head and I can hear the wheeze in her breathing. Some kitties are helped by cortisone shots for that, but it does not seem to have a lot of effect for my kitties.

Maintaining.

Scott has a constant cough. My husband thinks that Scott does it to have us feel sorry for him. It is true that after 5 minutes of picking up Scott he stops gagging.

I'd agree not having to do insulin is something to be grateful about. Hope it stays manageable like this for a long time.

Great news about my 11-yo, Olivia. She was diagnosed with diabetes about 2 weeks ago. After time on a special diet, her glucose is almost normal! So we won't have to put her on insulin, at least right now, since it looks like it can be controlled with the food. I'm putting this on the "things I'm grateful for" list!

Hello all hope the day is treating you all wonderfully.
Today my kitty Bellarouche ( see pics on spark page) is in such a snit of a mood i dont know what twitched his whiskers during the night but he is not happy.
First he came to visit me on the toilet as he is apt to do most mornings but when my little dog Midge came to say good morning Bella promptly bit him quite sharply on the butt then took off down stairs
When i got down stairs he demanded he was to be fed and he insisted that it had to be now so like any willing slave i fed him only to be nipped on the hand.
No cuddle or pat this morning just arched back and disdainful regard
When Midge came down stairs Bella chased him back up riding him like a jockey
Oh here is back again mewing in kitty speak as he tells me of his morning up he jumps to sit by the computer rubbing his face on mine WAIT hold up is this the same kitty that went upstairs five minutes ago
It's a doppelganger or maybe he's hiding an evil twin under the bed Nah i'm sure its just that he likes to rule the roost since he can't rule the world ( not through lack of trying though)

Hi fellow kitty mommies! I've never posted in here before. Figured I'd start now!

On Sunday it will be Paisley and my 3 year anniversary! I rescued her on May 1st, 2008 at the St. Paul Humane Society. She was about 8 years old then. She is my first pet, unless you count a hamster, and she has given me so much joy!

Hello All,

Sorry that I haven't been on for a few days. I have been doing some errands and other things. I am also still taking my walks too. They are very hard right now. I can't go that far. I am hoping that as I go I will get stronger and be able to go longer.

Nellie, I am happy to hear that she is doing so much better. As long as she eats and drinks she will be ok.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Today I offered Coffee-Kitty soft food which she ate some, but then I noticed she was going to the dry food of the other kitties, which she hasn't wanted in ages. She has been eating dry food off and on a good part of the day. Hooray!!!

I hope that Coffee Kitty starts to eat better. Hopefully having the 4 teeth removed will help her. She will probably need a day or two to let them heal up some. Hopefully she will start eating. Make sure that she is drinking though. I will say some prayers for her.

I had my cat for 15 years too. I just had to have her put down last year. I miss her so much.

Our weather is warming up slowly. It is only 61 outside at 2 pm. It is suppose to stay this way all week. We are going to be getting some thunderstorms and heavy rain showers all week. The weekend however is suppose to be nice with the sun shining.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Best wishes to all!

.She is home now, not feeling like eating or doing much of anything but resting. I will have to see how she does. She had four teeth removed.

Early this morning I took Coffee-Kitty (because her coloring looks sorta like a Coffee Bean) to the vet for a dental. She is 15 years old and hasn't been eating well, so they feel that cleaning the teeth and extracting any that are bad will help her appetite. I certainly hope so since I have been concerned about her. For those of you who pray, please say a prayer for her!

Happy Easter to you all.

I haven't been on for 2 days because I wasn't feeling all that good. It wasn't any one thing. I still haven't been sleeping well and I guess I am just down because I can't do anything except walk for now.

I hope that everyone is having a great day.

Best wishes to all!

Hi all!

Cathy, she'll be fine. Like everyone else said, it'll be hard to keep her from jumping, playing and other activities. When I get my cats fixed, I go the extra mile and get a pain killer shot. The thought of them being in pain is too stressful. The shot last up to 3 days.

Let us know how things go.

Thanks for the words of support. I had Squeaky spayed, but she was 6months old (L C is a year and a half) but I am so much more attached to LC-- She follows me everywhere I go, doesn't like anyone coming close to "us" she really has quite a personality and I wouldn't want that to change.
Thanks again

Hello All,

Having a cat spayed is what's best for the cat. Especially if she is going to be going outside. You don't want her to have litter after litter with no place for the kittens to go to. She will be much better off having it done. You will be able to have peace of mind knowing that she is safe from having kittens. Just make sure that she stays quiet when she comes home. No jumping or running. Keep her inside until she is all healed up.

I am sure that she will not hate you for doing this. In the long run she will be happy. I will say some prayers that everything goes good for her and you.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Best wishes to all!

I have had lots of cats throughout the years get spayed and neutered. They recover very quickly, and the main problem is to keep them from jumping for the length of time the vet says!

Hi cat lovers!
I guess I just need reassurance, but I hate the thought of taking my dear L C into get spayed but I know it is the best for her. I think the thing that hurts the most is that she will have to stay overnight at the vet's. Do you think she'll hate me when I bring her home? I don't want anything to go wrong.

Welcome, Softvelveteen to this team. We are happy to have you. I am sure that you will like this team.

Cheryl, I am glad that your kitties like to be held and cuddled. I hope that you will be able to get the babies fixed and adopted if you can't keep them. I will say some prayers for them.

Hi everyone!

Thank you Dot. I do have my hands full! I hope you're feeling better.

Welcome SOFTVELVETEEN! We're happy to have you! It's sad and hard when you lose any cat and/or kitten. Belle sounds wonderful! My cats loves fresh laundry. I look forward to more pictures of Belle.

Cali (feral momma) brought over two kittens. They just opened their eyes. One is black and the other is a orange tabby. I would love to keep them both. I love black cats...heck, I love them all! I know deep down they would be better off if they were adopted.

Bell (foster kitten) is a doll! I'm happy to announce the 3 foster babies like to be held and loved on. Bell jumps into my lap and falls asleep. She tends to suck on my t-shirt or arm. Emma is very sweet, but independent. Daisy likes to play by herself. You can love on her and is still kind of skittish when picked up. As soon as they reach 2 pounds, I'll be taking them to get fixed and tested.

Lean on the promises of Christ! Keep your eyes on the prize...Jesus Christ and His Kingdom!

Hi new to the group. pic is of my baby bellarouche fluffybritches knickerbocker the III investigating the sunshiny fresh smell of clean towels. he seems to have this thing about clean towels. he was dumped in my yard along with two of his sisters at about 3 weeks sadly his sisters didn't make it but belle has grown into a huge fluffy strong very independent kitty. he definitely has a mind of his own does not like to be picked up or cuddled but is always very vocally happy to see me and my legs get a lot of affection. recently he discovered he loves to be brushed and often goes to the box its kept in and drags it out to let me know he wants a brush. he is one smart boy can open and close the cupboard door when he wants to be alone if he is hungry he will climb the shelf get a pack of food and drop it in his bowl he listens to everything that is said and often seems to understand it often interjecting his own thoughts and opinions in kitty speak

Hello All,

I didn't come on yesterday because I wasn't feeling very well. I was having stomach cramps and passing a lot of wind too. Finally it went away later in the day. I started to read and didn't want to put the book down.

Nellie, I know what you mean about not disturbing them. Their claws are awful sharp and do hurt. That is a good way to do it, putting a pillow in between.

Cheryl, you have your hands full. I hope that you will be able to get the kittens inside and taken care of. I hope you can catch the mother too and get her fixed and everything else that needs to be done for her.

You are doing such a good job taking care of all those animals. I am sure that they all love you for it. Keep up the good work.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

It's been very busy around my home. Taking care of my 5 indoor cats, 2 feral cats, 2 dogs and 3 foster kittens is a lot of work, but a labor of love.

Cali, my feral outdoor cat, had more kittens. Now I'm going to be busier than ever! It looks like she may have had 2 or 3. I really can't tell.

I've been meaning to catch her and get her fixed. I have fibromyalgia and a syrinx (cyst inside the spinal cord). Both caused by injuries I sustained at work back in 2003. Both are incurable and cause horrific pain. I'm on full disability. So, between everything I have going on and my conditions, I haven't had time to catch her.

I'll be fostering her kittens, getting them fixed, tested for feline aids and leukemia and taking them to PetSmart to be adopted. That is when they are old enough to leave mommy.

Lean on the promises of Christ! Keep your eyes on the prize...Jesus Christ and His Kingdom!

Most of my kitties let me sleep pretty well --except when I want to turn over and have to dislodge one or more of them. However, there is one kitty who seems determined to make bread on my legs when he is first settling down. It is bad until he starts extending the claws. Then I try to slip a pillow in where his claws are, so both of us can be undisturbed. Sometimes it works and some times I have to dislodge him.

Maintaining.
