With 8 cats mice are not a big problem!!! I have a couple of good mousers. Typically the mice come in under my stove and when I see the cats camping out there I know a mouse is in the house. usually ina day or tow I find the dead mouse on the living room floor. I hate to watch them play with the mice, especially when they bring it in my direction! No thank you!!!!

Pill time with Earl has been fun. He hates it when my husband picks him up. He knows what's coming. I have finally gotten a trick to getting the pill pusher in his mouth.

Merlin is free from his ear problems for now. The hematoma is just about reabsorbed. His ear is deformed but I can live with that. He's still handsome!!!

My cat is perking up since his last hospital stay. He is eating the new food and actually has no
indication I have been putting his medicine in it. I can only hope this lasts a long time. Even though the food is rather costly, having to force him to get in the four daily doses is much easier
than chasing him with a syringe. emoticon

I doubt if my cat would know a mouse if he saw one!
It is funny, though how we respond. I had a few this year, and I could tell a few things, not as
drastic though, thank goodness! Hope that is the end of it for you. They can be extremely destructive in addition to disturbing.
Good luck! emoticon emoticon

I hope Earl Grey gets better.

So last night it took us 2 hrs to catch a mouse in the house. Max was our mouser! He chased it in the living room, hallway, guest bedroom, computer room. By the time we got the mouse and took it outside, our house looked like it was ransacked! The couch and recliner was tipped over, guest bedroom a mess and a bookcase in the middle of the room. By the time we were done, the three of us were exhausted. Tigger? Well, he was busy supervising! One time the mouse was under the entertainment center, Max thought it wasn't, but when I "pushed" his head towards the center, he & the mouse was nose to nose. Boy was he shocked & so was the mouse. We should have been on the Funny Home Videos.

I understand the concern and the expense! Elmo had to be hospitalized again a couple of days ago. He spent two more nights, but is home tonight. He has been acclimating himself, but seems ok. His functions appear normal. I have spent over $900.00 so far, and I still want a follow-up when his regular vet returns. emoticon

Had to take my cat Earl Grey to the vet last night. He has scabbed areas on his skin starting again and he is losing hair. After multiple trips to the vet in the past for this problem a sub vet finally decided it was due to fleas and we put him on Feline Advantage. Well I only did 3 months of the treatment. Everything seemed to be going fine until recently. None of my other cats have problems and the dog is treated monthly for flea preventative. The scabbed areas are really bad and were well hidden. The vet immediately said it was an allergy to fleas. he said even one flea can cause a severe reaction in Earl. I also had him check anal glands. i asked the vet to show my husband how to express the anal glands because it is a common problem for several of my cats. the vet said, "No Way!" He said he doesn't show anyone how to do it. I expect it is a money making issue for him. Earl got an anti-inflammatory shot, antibiotics for 21 days and a follow-up in 3 weeks. All to the tune of $109.20!!!!! Yikes. Outrageous.

It is amazing what we go through for our pets! Hope Merlin's ears clear quickly, and you no longer have to do the ear cleaning. Glad he is better, you will get used to the deformity in time. emoticon

Cleaning ears today! YUK! Although they are not as bad as the first day. I gagged the first day I cleaned them. Talk about gross!!!!! I think one more day of cleaning will do the trick. Merlin's hematoma is just about gone. It has left his ear flap deformed. I was hoping it would straighten out once the swelling was gone, but it doesn't look that way.

Thank you so very much! I thought he would be too. However, you know how unpredictable and temperamental cats can be.
The first day he ate, drank, and was definitely seeming to revive. The second, (yesterday-always on a weekend) he is once again refusing liquids and nourishment. I will try to get him into regular vet tomorrow. Will make all attempts to give her necessary background upfront. He is so loving, and mostly himself except...I just hope he isn't giving up. I am preparing, but know I will never be ready. emoticon

Hello All,

I am sorry that I haven't been on for a while. I am still dealing with my foot and leg problems. I am now currently on 1 IV antibiotic and 2 oral antibiotics. Trying to get my leg better from the Cellulitis that I got back in February. I am also going everyday to the Wound Center so that I can go into the Hyperbaric Chamber which is suppose to help with the healing process. I believe it is making a difference. I am still not walking totally on my foot from the surgery that I had on September 14th. I am still in the process of trying to walk in the walking boot and being able to walk without it on. It is going so slow.

I have just gotten over a really bad head cold. I never get head colds or any other for that matter. I guess my immune system might be down some.

I hope that everyone is doing well. I continue to say prayers for those that need them even if I am not here.

You all mean a lot to me and I just want you all to be well.

Best wishes to you all.

Best wishes to all!

I will keep you all in my Thoughts and Prayers

Update #3 Elmo Moved from intensive care to regular room at specialty clinic today. Later brought to our own town to a local vet to continue fluid IV's. Good to see him a minute. Prognosis is good. emoticon emoticon

emoticon everyone for emoticon for us. We go to the stores on the 20th to pay resolutions. Then on the 23rd we go to Court and report in to the Judge. Robert is worrying about going to Court. I told him that it would be alright. The 23rd is also the day that the school is getting flu shots. Robert is asking where he will get his shot if he misses it at school. I told him that I would have to take him out of school one day when the county has it's mass flu clinic.

Hungrywoman2 I hope Elmo gets better and is up and around chasing mice again. I remember a year ago when I had to put to sleep my beloved cat of 20 years (Ginger). I was crying on the way home from the vet.

Hope everyone is having a good day with whatever you do.

Update #2 on Elmo.
After a weekend of ups and downs, Elmo is still not taking in enough nutrition or hydration. I fear his body is shutting down. His vet will be out of town and has referred me to a specialist she uses in a neighboring town. He needs to be hospitalized and given IV"s. The cost is adding up and I am so afraid I might make the wrong decision. I want what is best for him, but
the letting go is so hard. His personality has returned, and his Elmo ways, but I know he doesn't feel good. I will pay the price, and find out. Every time he goes through something I do.
I just wish his regular vet was going to be in town. emoticon

Update on Elmo-my furbaby. I was instructed to take him in to the "hospital" if he continues not to eat or drink. He appears to be trying, but has a bit of a cough, and can't seem to find what he is looking for. He has eaten a few kibbles, and a bit of juice from canned chicken. I will need to make the decision whether to pursue further treatment. I will watch today, and talk to the vet tomorrow. He is so much perkier, social, and more himself. emoticon

Parenting isn't easy. We do the best we can to create a moral and ethical foundation for our children, and teach them independence and how we can manage the world we live in. They are each their own person, and will make their own choices. We can't no matter the love do it for them. You definitely are not a bad mother. Sometimes our children need the consequences of their choices to learn. Acting now is a good idea. Perhaps if he is rebelling towards you there is another influence in his life. Counseling might help. There are programs out there for children at risk. It takes a bit of work, but is well worth the effort.
Meanwhile take care of yourself, provide the example you wish for him to follow, and know that you hare not alone. Many many good parents struggle with what is hopefully a phase.
I will pray for you and your son for the resolution to come soon. emoticon

Everyone emoticon pray for my son. A 16 year old talked my 12 year old into stealing for him. Come to find out this 16 yr old isn't the first time for him. The officer is wanting to send Robert for a mental eval, but the hospital said Robert don't qualify because he isn't bad enough. So I don't know what the next step is yet. Still waiting to hear. This situation has had me stressed out to the point that I don't feel like working out. Sorry I haven't been around much but haven't felt like talking to anyone about it. I was afraid that people would judge me by this and accuse me of not being a good mother. Hope everyone has a good evening with what ever you do.

My cat is much more social today. In fact, if I don't watch it, I step on him as I type. I have seen no evidence of him eating or drinking, however. I put the bowl under him, and he would take a sip and turn away, and take a sip etc. for a few times. It almost seems it is hurting his throat. As I returned to the room he began to cough a bit. I know his medication will be a tough business. I may have to get him overnight to vet Monday. Additionally, it would help a great deal if I could get the medicine in injection form. Time will tell... emoticon

Today I took my cat to the vet. It is a long story which I will keep short. He does have what I thought. However, much to my surprise he has pancreatic infection as well. The prognosis is good for senior cat. I now have to dose him ten days with yet another liquid medication. Long-term watch total fat content. I don't believe that to be a big issue. I had to share with those who understand cats. I was so happy and grateful when the first thing he did out of the carrier was to take a large drink of water, and scratch on his pad. He hasn't been that active in a week!
Enough said. Now to complete his list... emoticon emoticon emoticon

My cat has been ill for a week now. He suffers from chronic impactions so we have been giving
him his medicine down the throat with a syringe. He has had regular small output, but after being medicated full strength he went through the both end syndrome. He normally does with a big lump. My concern now is that for the last two days he hasn't eaten or been drinking. Today, I walked to the store and bought some things. He finally got a bit of milk down. I hear him wheeze and make noises like my dog had with kennel cough. I think it is respiratory. This weather has given us all fits. The vet said cats won't eat without smell. I think he is worn out in addition. I will get him to the vet tomorrow and see what she says.
I love my vet, She literally saved his life. I believe she has a special gift, especially taking care of our senior pets. Hope any medication can be given through injection. emoticon

Merlin's ear is much better. The swelling in his right ear has gone down considerably. I don't think surgery will be necessary when he goes back to the vet next week. You can tell he feels better. he is out and about more and he is happy talking once again. Glad all is well with him.

Merlin is NOT happy with his ear treatments!!!!! This goes on for 14 days. Yikes!!! We have to swaddle him in a towel to do the ear flushing. Then I have a pill pusher to administer the antibiotics. that works fairly well. I'm not enjoying it either!!!!! :(

Aww, poor kitty. I had a cat named Bubbles once who suffered from the same thing. She had one in each ear. Her ears were all droopy after that, but she was fine. I had no idea mites could also cause it though. Hope your fur baby gets better soon! emoticon

My Merlin, aka Tank, had to go to the vet today with swollen, infected ears. It seems his swollen right ear has a hematoma. the vet said it may need surgical intervention after the initial problem is cleared up. All of the problem stems from mites. Poor Merlin will have to endure daily ear drops, twice daily oral antibiotics and twice weekly ear flushes with Epi-Otic. We did the ear flush today. Got in the first dose of antibiotic and will do the ear drops tonight. he was not happy with the car ride and was even more unhappy with the ear flush!!! the oral antibiotics are twice a day so he'll get another dose tonight. Merlin got a shot of anti-inflammatory at the vet's office. He weighs a whopping 20 pounds!!!!!!! He goes back to the vet in 2 weeks. Most of the treatment is for 14 days. We have our work cut out for us!!!

Hi fellow cat lovers,

I'm back from Cape Town - rather disappointed though because I didn't get to see the Cape - we spent most of our time in the hotel or at the Airport emoticon

Hello Everyone! This is such a great team! I LOVE the team goal of playing with my cat 10 minutes a day. Um, yeah, I think I can reach that goal! emoticon

Love the Apple cider vinegar thread. I will try that.

Dot, I took a look at your spark page and your most recent blog. Wow. You've been through so much. I hope all your treatments help you.

We were out most of the day yesterday and I'm sorry to say that Zuzu might have been scared. Since we work from home and are here almost all the time usually, it must have been pretty scary. She definitely has abandonment issues. Any way we got a huge welcome and loads of adorable purr/mewls. And lots of time was spent with both of us making much of her. She's all calm now. Us too.

Hello All,

My neighbors cat always comes over and looks through my glass sliding doors. She wants to see who lives here. I would let her in but I don't think the dog would like that. I have been thinking about maybe getting another cat. It has been a long time since my other cat passed away. I still miss her bad.

I am very fortunate to have all you friends on SP. You are all very wonderful.

Sorry for not keeping up with everything on here. It is still too hard to come on everyday.

Since my surgery on the 14th, I have posted 2 more blogs explaining what has been going on with my recovery. I have been trying to keep everyone informed about what has been happening to me. Blogs are the only way that I can think of that would allow everyone to go and see them.

I also did another blog the other day explaining what has been going on with me. If you want you can go and look at it. If you have any questions about anything please ask me. I will be very happy to answer your questions. Below I just explained what the last thing that happen to me on Thursday.

I too am so relieved that the doctors are getting together and devising a plan that would be in my best interest. For a while there I didn't know what I was going to do, because it felt like they all just dropped the ball.

On Thursday, I got some more news that I think was good too. The Infectious Disease doctor called me herself and told me that she wants to see me sooner than the 11th of October. She is trying to find a way that will work, hopefully next week sometime, even if I am at the Wound Center. She also said that she is probably going to put me back on IV antibiotics. We talked for a long while. I was answering all of her questions and explaining to her what I thought had gotten everything started back in January. I am sure that I will be seeing her either today or someday next week. She is suppose to call me back personally. She was very nice and understanding about my situation.

I hope that everyone will be able to enjoy their weekend.

Hope that all is well with you and your family.

Your Friend, Dot

Best wishes to all!

I will keep you all in my Thoughts and Prayers

Hi,

I have a 9-year old cat, Sue and I absolutley adore her. We have 5 dogs too but they don't bother her at all.

I've started feeding her Hills and not only is she mad about it but she has also lost weight.

On another note, I'm so excited because I'll be spending a week in Cape Town (working holiday). I was last in Cape Town when I was very young.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend

Hi team....
I am just wondering if your cats are enjoying the nicer fall weather we are having now. At least it is much nicer in Kansas then it was this summer!!
My two love having the windows open so they can sit on their shelf and not only "watch" the world but now they can once again smell and hear everything going on!!
They make pretty good watch cats too. When someone comes up the walk they jump on the shelf and stare. I then know something is going on. But then of course when I open the door they run and hide!!! LOL

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.

Hello All,

I will try to go and read your blog later. Right now I am just trying to let everyone know what is going on with me before my surgery on Friday. I have had to go to 3 doctor appointments a day to get ready for it. It is just crazy. I have 3 today and only 2 tomorrow. I will be really happy when this is all over with.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Best wishes to all!

Hello All,

I had a really busy day yesterday. A lot of running around. Had to also do some grocery shopping too. I was totally tired when I finally got home and I decided to go to bed early because I also didn't sleep very good the night before.

I want to thank you all for all the prayers and support. I really do appreciate it a lot. It does help me a lot knowing that you are all here helping me.

I am not doing anything this weekend. I weather is suppose to be really nice. In the 70's so it won't be humid or overly hot. I won't have to run the ac either.

Hope that everyone will be safe and cool this Labor Day weekend. Want everyone to have a lot of fun. Try though not to eat too much.

I am going to be able to read some more. I just finished one book and now I am starting on another one.

Hope everyone will enjoy their holiday weekend.

Best wishes to all!

Hello All,

I have finally gotten to see my Podiatrist yesterday. I am scheduled for surgery for the 14th of September. I do not have a time yet. I am having it done through the Day Surgery so I will be able to go home afterwards unless there is any complications.

I have done a BLOG with all the information on it. I have a really busy schedule it looks like for a while. I just wanted to make sure that all my wonderful friends know about info. You are all so wonderful with all your support and being here for me. You do make a big difference and I really do appreciate all that you do.

Thank you all for the support.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Best wishes to all!

Hello All,

I am happy that there will be a nice remembrance of him. I am sure that he would of wanted it to be like that. I will say some prayers for you and your family.

I want to thank you all so much for all the prayers and support that you are giving to me. I really do appreciate it a lot.

The news that I got the other day was not good news. I do have a bone infection at the end of my foot. I don't have any toes on my left foot because I was born with a deformity. I have had a lot of surgeries on it while I was growing up. The doctors had to make it so that I could walk on it by myself.

I am going to do a Blog explaining all the details that will be leading up to the surgery itself. There is also going to be a long recovery as well. All that will be in the Blog. I thought that doing a blog would be the best thing so that everyone would be able to read and find out what is going to happen. I want to make sure that I keep everyone up to date.

I hope that you all will have a great weekend.

Your Friend, Dot

Hi Guys,
Just got word this afternoon my dad passed away. I am so glad I got to see him in July for his 93 b-day. You can see his picture with the family on my Spark Page. I'm waiting to hear back from my brothers and them find a flight to Pa.It's been exactly 2 yrs and 2 weeks since my Mom died. Dad's wanted to be with her ever since and now he is. Praise God! He is happy now. He was a wonderful Dad and a great man. He will be missed.

Cats have a mind of their own and we are their savants! well at least that,s what they think! Our two cats are also indoor cats. they wouldn't know what to do if they went outside. they have tried! and succeeded but not for long. Good luck with Princess Anne!
