Hi Teamies;

I'm a newbie to this team, I love to go hiking & walking. I love this topic, I will be trying to find all these places, also the time of year to hike, will be looking for maps so I don't continue to get lost here; back home you could just go to the Ranger Station and they gave you maps of the hiking trails & description also the check-in spots. Don't know if they have anything like that here will research before heading out.

Thank you teamies, wishing you lovely hiking days and special spots when you are hiking to make your soul come alive.

Take care & be well

Many Blessings Always Debby

May you find peace, grace joy & love inside each day.

Love Unconditionally, Believe Wholeheartedly, Trust Yourself & Your choices, Love Yourself so then you can love others..

Love survives Eternity.

I'm not a native, and I don't get out alot, so I don't know many trails. I know of the main ones like Red Rocks and GOG, but they are not very challenging. I mainly do the Incline and Section 16. I will try your suggestion and see if it is another trail I can add to my rotation :)

What doesn''t kill you will make you stronger...but not necessarily smarter.

I did the incline recently! Finished in about 1:15, and took the trail back down. I was ridiculously sore for a few days afterwards, but I think I will do it again this summer.

I recently hiked around Rampart Range Reservoir. It was 14 miles - not too hilly. Took us about 4.5 hours. We brought my 7lb dog with us and she walked about 10 miles total (we carried her at times too)! It was really beautiful and I highly recommend it!

Red Rock Open Space is beautiful. I have been there once before. I am actually taking my husband there this weekend. He has bad knees and with these being fairly level I figured it would work perfect.

I enjoy Palmer Park and Garden of the Gods as well. Im new to hiking

I did the Incline today. Took 1 hr and 40 minutes. First time up there ever. A lot of people on the trail. Took Barr Trail back down for a total of 3 hours today! I "enjoyed" it. Will try it once a month, I think.

I tried it once and only got half way. It seemed like i was so short that i had to climb over the steps with my knees. But one day I will make it the whole way.

I've been doing the Manitou Incline lately. Not for the faint of heart though. If you're looking for a good workout, this is it!

We used to live at the AF academy and there are TONS of trails all over base. I think they have maps at Outdoor Rec. Unlike most military installations, the academy is usually open to the public with a valid driver's license and insurance. When coming into the south entrance, after the bridge take the first left and then the first left again to see one of the fishing ponds there. There are trails that branch out from there and go on for hours. Usually not too difficult other than the occasional creek bed. Good Luck!

I enjoy Bear Creek and Palmer Park trails. I also like Fox Run because it doesn't get too crowded and the dogs enjoy the lake.

I usually walk the trails in and around Bear Creek Park. I LOVE THEM! I usually wear a SparkPeople t-shirt when I'm out hiking, so if you see me out there, give me a wave!

Section 16 off Gold Camp Road is a great hike - starts off as a strenuous uphill, but levels off to a nice set of views over the city and to the open space behind. The second half of the loop is a nice downhill for a good run.

I like Waldo Canyon, too, about halfway up Hwy 24 on the way to Woodland Park.

My favorite place to hike in Colorado Springs is at Red Rock Open Space. There are some moderate incline gains but nothing too strenuous. It is absolutely beautiful. It is a place I take out of town visitors first to see how they will do on longer, steeper hikes. I try to hit there at least once a week. No matter how stressful a day I am having, an hour or so there brings life back into perspective.

OOOh, never heard of that one. Maybe next time I get out I'll have to check it out. I love that area.

I love Horse thief falls between Divide and Cripple Creek. It's a pretty tough hike up since it's mainly uphill (but not to bad my youngest didn't complain so she's my tester LOL) but once you reach the meadow it's a pretty easy walk. The trail either forks off to pancake rocks which is strictly straight up a steep hill (I haven't made it all the way there yet) or to the waterfall.

Very nice shaded hike but I suggest getting there a little early since the parking lot can get crowded real fast. You can find it on the way heading up to Cripple Creek right after you see the first abandoned tunnel, the parking lot is right around the corner.

Ok, I'll start off.
I haven't had the chance to go on it since '06 but one of the nicest trails I can remember ever being on is the trail that leads up the side of Helen Hunt Falls and on up the ridge, over the ridge and who knows how much further from there. It is interesting, beautiful, and has lots of switch backs that just lead you on wondering what's over the next hill or up the next bit. It's quite a climb but I forced myself up and up and up even when I was ill because I was having such a good time.

One caveat. be careful in the afternoon. the afternoon squalls will often bring in lightening and around four can sure be scary. try to go earlier so you can be down by 4 or so and I think you can avoid all that.

I thought with so many of us getting outside & hiking/walking/biking, it would be good to add a forum where we can write a review of the trail to help each other!
Please, keep this forum to "reviews" so it's easy to navigate. We can always start another "discussion" forum if we want to do more than just review the trail or discuse experiences during our hikes.
Also, I will be trying to add trails that I have hiked to the "resource" link at the top of the Colorado Springs Team page & I encourage all of you to do this, not only the trails, but any local info you have, ie..restaurants, shopping, fun stuff!
