Georgia, do hope you find a comfortable position for sleeping. The new Shingles shots are two shots given two to six months apart. Apparently this new version lasts longer protection wise then the previous shot.

Rebecca, any luck finding a piece of luggage you need?

Cathy, hope all is well.

Dee- Sorry the shingles shot hurt you but it's better than getting shingles. I got shingles once and it was very, very painful.

Georgia- Oh my goodness! I hope you recover quickly. You and your hubby have both had quite the troubles lately.

Me- I had my mammogram done first thing this morning. Then I met my hubby at campus parking office and we switched up our parking to save some money since he has the handicapped parking thing now. I need to leave work early this afternoon to pick up DD when she gets out of school and then we must do ALL THE THINGS. I am short a piece of carry-on luggage so we will need to tackle that at Target and then get home etc.

We fly to Seattle tomorrow/Wednesday.

Morning All, hope your day goes well.

me, have Tuesday and Wednesday off so going to chill some and also get some things done around here. Got my 2nd Shingles shot after work yesterday. Arm is sore, feels like I was punched and unfortunately had trouble sleeping as it’s the side I lay down in to doze off. Was up at 5am today..hoping to lay back down later.

Georgia sorry you are still sick..

We had an okay time at the hamfest. We were worried it would rain but it didn't. I was hoping to go see friends after that but I stayed with my family and didn't go. I ended up with a bad headache. Maybe allergies.

Went up to my mom's cemetery today and then saw my dad (he lives near it). Abby is staying home today and tomorrow I think. Hubby and I are taking turns going out. Nothing exciting here for the rest of the weekend.

Burgers and fries last night at Five Guys. Hotel is noisy. I won't stay here again. It was free though with our hotel points. Hubby is hurting. We go to the ham radio flea market today. We have his wheelchair with us if we need it. We go home tonight.

Good news on the permit.

Cold and rainy here today too.

Well we got his disability parking from the state. Still need to follow up with the university and change our parking situation there more permanently. My stuff is packed for our overnight adventure. I will have to stop at the house after I pick up DD from school to get her stuff as she wasn't packed when I left for work (I expected that though). Hopefully we'll find somewhere nice for dinner tonight and not just do burger and fries.

We are going into a 3 day weekend in the US. Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day is Monday so even though we have a full plate for Saturday we will still have a couple more days off. This is good because our big trip is coming up fast.

Georgia- Sorry you had to work at night. I am glad I don't do that anymore.

Dee- He is managing the pain because he wants to live his life. He does not want to be permanently disabled. On the other hand we are watching and waiting for his state issued handicapped parking to come through. It's all about balance, right?

I fell asleep on the couch last night and did not get the dishes done. Overslept this morning and missed my chance for a shower. Sigh. So tonight I must do ALL the things. We have a quick overnight Friday night in New Hampshire so I have to dig out a small suitcase and pack for that as well. We've done this trip before but stayed in different hotels. I've got enough points that I think this hotel will be free for us so that is one good thing.

Georgia- Unfortunately for my husband driving hurts because it's putting pressure on his leg which is where his sickness is.

Yesterday he managed to get our daughter to school but he didn't pick her up. I had to go and do that. We will see how he does today. He wants to drive himself to New Hampshire on Friday so he is motivated.

I enjoy driving but I'm just trying to balance the work hours.

Georgia, that’s the same as what we use, just call it squash. Found this on Internet.

Description: Butternut squash, sometimes known in Australia and New Zealand as butternut pumpkin or gramma, is a type of winter squash that grows on a vine. It has a sweet, nutty taste similar to that of a pumpkin. It has tan-yellow skin and orange fleshy pulp with a compartment of seeds in the bottom.

Pumpkin is a form of squash. I've heard of butternut squash before. Maybe this is what you are using Georgia.

I am the only one in my family who likes squash so I don't eat it much. It is a lot of work to chop it up and peel it etc.

I hate driving in Boston. I had to parallel park and even with the back-up camera I was a mess. No thanks! I live in "Western Mass" which is more rural and easier to drive.

DH is going to attempt driving today. Fingers crossed. Doctor told him he will be in pain for the foreseeable future so he's going to have to get used to it. :-(

Send the rain to me - we need it desperately.

Going to be 97F today and fire danger is high high high.

Dee all I do it buy some Butternut pumpkin (i don't know if it is called the same there)
I chopped it up into cubes. Drizzle a little oil on top and mix and then bake in the oven until cooked . Time varies about 45 mins.

Then I use it to make my salads for the week.
Finely chopped broccoli
Some spinach
some beans or corn
basically all you like in a salad.

It is something I am trying and it is quite filling.

Georgia, roasting pumpkins? That sounds delicious. Can I ask how you do it? I’ve never roasted anything.

Rebecca, WOW, that’s a lot of driving. Do hope dh recovers quickly. I loved going to the Boston area when we lived in NY. Thus time of year is so pretty.

Cathy, glad all is well. Sounds like you have your hands full as usual.

me, work is still busy as ever. But today is my Friday so have two days off and it’s actually in the high 70’s with a breeze. Miss this kind of weather. But it’s supposed to warm up again into the 90’s so enjoying cooler temps while they are here.

It is pouring rain this morning. I am going to work late again. Driving DD to school and then bringing DH and I to work. He has an appointment with his doctor today so I will leave work early to bring him to that. We got handicapped parking at work while we wait for the official handicapped parking from the RMV. This will be our first time using the handicapped parking spot.

I book hotels that have laundry too. Hubby tends to only pack enough clothes for 3-4 days and we will be away longer than that.

We did 335 miles of driving yesterday once everyone got up. We drove out to one end of the state (Berkshires) and then after a couple of stops out there we drove to Cambridge/Boston. It was a full day but we had a good time with it. Hubby refused to use the wheelchair that we brought with us and near the end of the journey we stopped at a large mall to buy winter coats for DD and I and he was in a lot of pain with the walking. On the plus side he handled the hours in the car riding pretty well.

I was hoping to stay home today but alas we need things so I will have to go out and get them.

Rebecca you are mentioning a wheelchair - what is wrong with your hubby?
I am concerned for you.

We have just done the pack unpack thing for a month. In the end we should have only taken 3 of everything except underwear as we seem to be wearing the same things over and over. (Lots of washing along the way for us)

I am still sore and tired from the busy day yesterday. I have the hot pack on as I type and it is soothing.

Hugs to all for a ice weekend.,

Nice to see you checking in Cathy. I hope I never have to home school my daughter. She has mentioned that she would like it but I'm just not that good of a teacher.

Husband and I discussed hotels and I narrowed down the important one to about 5 and then let him pick. We went with the one closest to his aunt's house. I'm not sure how much time we will spend there but it seemed logical. Then we grabbed another one almost randomly for a couple of nights in Portland, Oregon to visit after all the family stuff is over. Last hotel is near the airport of course. Phew! It will feel like a lot of packing and unpacking but I think all the hotel rooms are suites so he can put his legs up and we will have space for a wheelchair if we bring one. I didn't want to get tiny hotel rooms because I know we will spend more time in there than some people do.

So today he says he wants to do all the things but then he hasn't gotten up yet. We will see what happens. He goes back to his primary care doctor on Monday. Maybe after that we will have a better idea about the wheelchair stuff.

I am hoping Sunday can be a rest day for us but we shall see.

Regarding the dry eye stuff- I have a coworker who suffers terribly. I am on the other end though. Sometimes it looks like I'm crying and it's just watery eyes. Usually when I'm tired but sometimes from allergies too.

I hope everyone is doing well. This is such a busy season for me! with 3 teens in the house, homeschooling them, taking Math classes to keep up with them, a puppy, etc, etc! You'd think that would make me a tiny little person by now!

I am working slowly at what I eat. I don't have a problem with portion control as much as snacking at night. That is my downfall. So I am going to work on that. I am getting a little more activity with dog training...it is fun with my Ezra! It's interesting to me that when I am running around with him at training and bending and doing crazy things to get him to do the command, I don't think as much about my sore stiff knees or joints.

I hope that you are having a healthy happy day (or night!)

Hugs to all, Cathy

Rebecca it will all fall into place and then you feel relaxed.

Dee I suffer with dry eye too and lately think it is affecting my eyesight. I am booked in to get a check in about a week or so. It is horrible.

I have an eye spray that helps. Hope you find relief soon.

Doing laundry this morning before work. We women are legends for all we achieve.

Rebecca, glad you got the plane tickets. Hope you find an affordable hotel.

Georgia and Cathy, hope all is well.

me, hanging in there. Having issues with dry eyes. Think it’s one of my meds and eye drops only relieve it for a short time.

I had my own doctor's appointment yesterday morning and then I had to do some stuff for DH. Went home to call Delta Airlines to get our plane tickets and they are really expensive but we are on the planes so yay for that. I may still see if I can get better seats for Abby and I at some point but right now I have to move on from that and do other stuff. I have a reservation for a minivan for while we are out there. Do not have hotels yet.

I am working while DD is at school today and then going to get the last of DH's prescriptions and some groceries. He is hoping to be able to go places this weekend. We will see how he is doing once he gets this last script going.

I am still trying to wrap my head around some of the logistics of this trip but I am sure it will fall into place.

Glad he is home. Speedy recovery to him.

I call those days off work "my mental health days" - need to keep sane instead of running in all directions.

I slept well last night and that made me glad.

Have a successful day whatever you do.

Rebecca so sorry for your loss and I feel for you having to make the arrangements with normal life in between. How is DH - did they figure out what was wrong?
So much going on.

I will be glad when 2019 is over it has been a tough year.

Dee I am back into it again.
Routine does not take long.

I now have a sore throat and that is annoying me as I do not have time for this.
Oh well more to deal with.

Have a lovely day everyone.

Oh sorry ladies! I realize now looking at my posts I forgot to mention DH's step-mom passing! I got the phone call around 11am on Sunday morning and I had posted in here about DH before that. Sorry!

SO yes, DH's step-mom has been in Texas. She has been sick for quite some time and we were trying to figure out a way for DH to go out and see her again. We hadn't seen her since DH's father passed last year. She died "early Sunday morning". I think probably like overnight. We knew it was coming, actually expected it sooner, but there you go. I had to call DH in the hospital and give him the news (his orders to me when he was admitted). Joyce was a very sweet lady and we miss her very much.

She was from Washington State, in a little town north of Seattle, so services will be there. It takes a little time to arrange it all and family has to travel so we just received word that the services will be Saturday, October 19th. DH and DD are adamant that we will be there so I need to make the arrangements.

Meanwhile DH is getting discharged today. We just talked a few minutes ago and I have to leave work at 10:15am to go and get him. We'll have lunch somewhere, get a couple of groceries, and I'll get him home before I take DD to the dentist. I'll have to work on the reservations tonight I think.

Georgia, first few days back after vacation are always the hardest. It will get better. My dh is also retired and I’m working for the benefits and to help with bills.

Cathy, hope all is well.

me, doing okay. Up early as usual can’t seem to sleep in on my days off for some reason. going to lunch later with a friend.

Oh Rebecca I was not aware he was still there. Oh my goodness the running around you are doing.
Praying for some answers.

Did his stepmom pass?? I did not read it anywhere.

Work was fine although I would prefer being elsewhere. LOL

Have a good day.

My DH remains hospitalized. No word yet on services for his (step)mom.

DD utilized the services of the school therapist yesterday and I expect her to be back there today.

Oh Rebecca I am sorry you are going through this - it is still so fresh for me and can understand it all.

I pray it is something treatable and that he can manage it with some medication.

I am finally going for that massage today as I need to be limber when I go back to work tomorrow. All the tension is in my shoulders and neck.

Have as good a day as you can.

Well speaking of DH.. I never know who is lurking on these things but I will risk it.

DH went to Urgent Care yesterday (Saturday) and they wouldn't treat him. Said he needed to go to the Emergency Room at the local hospital. So he came home and we packed up and took him there. ER was very busy with many injuries. Seems adults like to go mountain biking and hurt themselves or play soccer with the kids and break bones. We may have been the only ones there for a non-injury. Anyway the ER doc was very quick once we finally got in to see him. He said DH would have to be admitted. I think it was another 2 hours before they actually got him upstairs to his room. So it was a long afternoon/night dealing with that. None of us got dinner so once he was in his room I went out to Wendy's to get him food and bring it back. Abby and I left the hospital around 9pm. I got McDs drive-thru for myself on the way home and made Abby pasta and veggies when we got home. I fell asleep on the couch at some point and Abby woke me up and got me to tuck her into bed around midnight I think.

She's still asleep as I write this at 9:30am. DH is awake at the hospital and waiting for news. He is expecting them to do an ultrasound this morning hopefully. We are HOPING he gets discharged after lunch today but we don't know if that will happen or not.

We have been here before sort of. Each time is different. Just wasn't expecting him to get admitted.

Oh Rebecca it is always one thing or another - isn't it.

I hope the situation improves and that you can get a good parking space.
It is so hard but I shall pray for an improvement to hubby's health and parking situation.

I am feeling blue now that my vacation time is up. Back to work Tuesday and feel sad we did not complete our vacation.

Dee hope you are well.
