Look for pedestreian pathways on the beach. You might want to look up biking in LA also. I often run on a bike path (on the far right). Good amount of traffic but wide enough bikes can easily pass me.

My best friend and I like to run at Fryman Park in Studio City. It's about 3 miles one way. It's a great workout because if you can imagine, people go there for a mini hike.

I know this will probably be kind of a hard one, but I am looking for...

An area that is relatively flat where I can run with my dog off leash.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Courtney

I started a beginners running program a few weeks ago and have been mapping routes because I get bored looking at the same stuff over and over again. I am close to the West Hollywood area, is there a good location or place to run over there that is all flat terrain?

There are a lot of running sites online you can try. I typically use mapmyrun.com. You can look up runs or input your own.

I'm from the SFV so I typically run around Balboa Park, but also enjoy the bike path in Santa Monica and there's a fun loop around the L.A. Zoo that's decent.

I haven't really had that much luck with tracks but I know there is one at La Cienega Park

Very nice run along San Vicente Blvd, from Brentwood to Santa Monica (BUT NOT the disconnected part of San Vicente Blvd near Wilshire Blvd around Cedars Sinai Medical Center by West Hollywood!!!)

This one is all "flat," starting from either east end, in Brentwood Village (zip 90049, near Bundy Ave), or the west end in Santa Monica *at the ocean.*

There is a huge wide grassy center divider with trees that is cushiony and relaxing, not many cross streets. A lot of people also use the center grass for stretching and yoga.

And also San Vicente Blvd has nice wide, clean and level sidewalks on both sides of the main street, among all the huge luxurious mansions - excellent relaxed environment, about 4 - 5 miles each way. The #3 Big Blue Bus runs along there in case you twist an ankle or don't want a full 8 - 10 mile roundtrip!
emoticon emoticon

Here's a big plus: On Sundays from around 10 AM - 1 PM there is a GIANT Farmer's Market along the Brentwood Village end of San Vicente! Fresh and cooked godies!

emoticon Yummie! emoticon

I find running around the perimeter of UCLA is a good run. Its 4 miles and goes up hill and down hill so its a good moderate run for someone to do.

I'm making this a sticky so people can easily post and view the best places to run in our lovely city.

I'm in the Los Feliz area. Griffith park is closest to me, but I like to run the neighborhoods just north of Franklin up to a park area near me - and up Western just above Franklin where it turns into Los Feliz - INCREDIBLE for hill work. When I first saw people running up that grade, I thought, "These people are nuts." But omg does it get the job done.

You're the good things - yeah that's you, yeah that's you, yeah.

There is a very nice path, recently renovated, next to Windsor Hills Elementary in View Park. (easy on the knees due to the soft but firm material they installed on the path) emoticon

I've lived in K-town for 9yrs and as far as I can tell these are your options:

Last time I checked there was a jogging path at the park on Normandie/Olympic.
Or you can walk to LaFayette Park east on Wilshire as your warm-up (I think it's about 1/2 mile).
Or a mile away east on Wilshire is MacArthur Park.

If you feel like driving or taking the subway, I believe the closest track is at Los Angeles Community College on Vermont/Santa Monica.

You can map out a run near you:
Go to the fitness tab under "healthy lifestyle." There's a resource in the middle column called "fitness maps."

You can also check with the parks department and see if a park near you has a jogging path. It should be listed under "amenities" if you search by zipcode.

Hope this helps! emoticon

Definitely not in Koreatown. LOL

Santa Monica College has a large track you can use... I've seen non-students use it anyway. In fact, any other school should have a track non-students can use after school or something.
