cubs are younger or younger looking bears depending... I identify as a bear because I'm big, somewhat furry and not into superficiality but I'm often called a cub because I look young which is fine with me.

I love muscle bears and would love to be one some day. Not sure if it's in the cards, but my goal is to never be skinny, just healthy. And the more fur the better, but we don't get to decide that LOL genetics do

I think we are totally still bears. I'm not going to lose the values of the bear community that i have learned just because my pants size is smaller.

Younger version of a bear? I'm guessing. I know some friends of mine consider themselves to be cubs.

"Bear is a state of mind not a state of body. We're still bears (some are cubs) but it's the heart of the man that makes him a bear not the number of pounds."

This has taken me some getting used to as I never really identified as a Bear, Cub, kangaroo, etc. and always had a mental image of what Bear guys were. I'm still not really sure what I would be considered but, I enjoy being around bears as the level of pretentiousness and superficiality are practically gone. It's just a bunch of normal guy who happen to like other guys and there's a level of comfort that I get from that. The last pride fest in Denver I attended was what I called Clones on Parade. But that's just a pet peeve of mine when it comes to some gay guys.

I'm one of those furry bears that hates all his hair but I think once all the weight is gone I will feel different about it 'cause I think a guy with a furry six pack is super sexy and I'd love to look like that! hehe!

This seems like the place to ask the question... I heard that a bear who shaves off his hair and his pubes becomes what is known as a Badger. Anyone else ever hear of this?

Hi, I'm new here. And yes, like someone said, you can lose weight and still be a bear. But defining what a bear is is kinda hard to do. I sometimes think it has more to do with the age of a man (a certain maturity) or attitude...or even the way they dress.

For instance, I just finished watching a gay romance movie called "Big Eden" (which I loved) and it has an Indian guy in it, probably in his 30's, and as an Indian he appeared to not have any body hair much...and he did not have a beard (just beautiful long dark hair), and he wasn't overweight...but he qualified very much (to me) as a bear.

So it's just that "certain something", I think. So don't worry about losing weight...especially if the weight is causing health problems. You can be a bear at any weight!

I leave it to others to decide for themselves, but for me, being a bear is not determined by the extra weight I am carrying. Being a bear means I am happy with my own body, comfortable in my own skin, and content being the person I am without concern for wearing the right clothes, owning the right car, or being seen in the right places.

And when I lose the rest of the pounds and reach my goal weight? I'll just be a sexier muscle bear.

Woof.

Anyway, I was kind of thinking once I got to my goal weight maybe I could be a twink. But, I think I'm too old and too hairy for that.

I find that bears today are not necessarily the bears of yesterday. I grab "Bear's Life" sometimes just to flip through. This sounds mean, and I don't mean for it to come off that way. When does a guy go from being a bear to being a chub? It seems like the line has been pushed higher and higher on the scales as time passes and our waistlines increase.

A friend once told me he went to a bear run and noticed it seemed like everyone couple there had a his and his CPAP machine. It's a commonly held fact being overweight can contribute to sleep apnea.

Just some thoughts. Again, I'm not trying to be mean or offend...just asking some curious questions and noting some observations.

But I agree also with the earlier comment about us being muscle bears! WOOF!

My understanding if you are big, bulky and hairy, you can be a bear.

If you lose the bulk but keep the hair, you can be a wolf or otter.

If you lose the bulk, hair, get a good plastic surgeon and stay in a dark corner, you may pass for a twink!

Just curious. Once we're buff and you can bounce a quarter off our cheek, do we still fall into being a Bear?
